The Triumphal Entry 12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! The collapse of Saul's house, the treachery of Joab, the murder of Abner and Ishbosheth, and the bloody struggle for the throne paint a raw picture of the human heart apart from God. This sermon enters the turmoil of 2 Samuel 3:20-4:12 and shows how the Lord advances his kingdom even through treachery, grief, and shattered loyalties. The contrast between David and the violent men around him highlights our need for the perfect and righteous King who alone can bring peace. This message draws listeners into the tension, the politics, the betrayal, and the hope that unfolds in the shadow of Israel's throne, pointing forward to the greater Son of David who ends the cycle of bloodshed by bearing it himself. Tucked well away in the Divine Liturgy in a prayer that the priest says silently for himself we find a significant title of Christ. The priest offers the prayer as the people sing the cherubic hymn but because it is not a prayer of the Church but a private prayer of the priest there is no reason for the people to hear it and seal it with their “Amen”. Nonetheless, I sometimes feel that it is a shame the people cannot overhear it, for it is very beautiful.

In this message, we continue our study in John 1, where we see two final titles that reveal who Jesus truly is, the King of Israel and the Son of Man. Through His authority, His knowledge of us, and His revealing of God's love, we're reminded why Jesus alone is worthy to call to us, “Follow Me.” Through the story of Philip and Nathanael, we see Jesus seeking ordinary people and calling them to follow Him as disciples. Listen and reflect on how Jesus not only knows us, but reveals God's love in a way that calls for a response of faith and daily devotion. Also on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x72FVAUYyZwSunday, November 9, 2025Pastor Kevin PierpontCalvary Church, Webberville, Michiganhttps://webbervillechurch.org

Even before David was anointed as their king, people wanted to follow Him. Many left their country and their king and risked their lives for Him. But the greatest testament to David's worthiness as their king, was the number who came to anoint him and the three men who risked their lives just to provide him with a taste of home. Men will fight for a cause. But when they choose to follow a man who has no authority over them and they will do anything to please him, then you know they have found a great leader.
In this Bible Story, Saul is anointed as the first king of Israel. He's a strong, handsome, and well-built man who stood a foot taller than every other man in Israel. The people rejoice over finally having a king, yet Samuel had warned them that having a king would not be exactly what they envisioned. This story is inspired by 1 Samuel 9-10. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is 1 Samuel 10:1 from the King James Version.Episode 79: Despite Samuel's warnings, Israel demanded a King, and God gave them Saul, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. One day Saul was searching for his father's donkeys and sought Samuel to ask if he could inquire of God about them. During this encounter, Samuel revealed to Saul that God had chosen him to be King over Israel. Seven days later Samuel called together the people of Israel, warned them, and announced that God had chosen Saul as their King.Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. And go in and have him rise from among his fellows, and lead him to an inner chamber. 3 Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the Lord, I anoint you king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee; do not linger.” 4 So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 5 And when he came, behold, the commanders of the army were in council. And he said, “I have a word for you, O commander.” And Jehu said, “To which of us all?” And he said, “To you, O commander.” 6 So he arose and went into the house. And the young man poured the oil on his head, saying to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, I anoint you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel. 7 And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord. 8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel. 9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. 10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and none shall bury her.” Then he opened the door and fled. 11 When Jehu came out to the servants of his master, they said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” And he said to them, “You know the fellow and his talk.” 12 And they said, “That is not true; tell us now.” And he said, “Thus and so he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord, I anoint you king over Israel.'” 13 Then in haste every man of them took his garment and put it under him on the bare[a] steps, and they blew the trumpet and proclaimed, “Jehu is king.” Footnotes a. 2 Kings 9:13 The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain
The people of Israel had God as their King, but they demanded an earthly one. The donkeys of a man named Kish went missing, and he sent his son, Saul, out to look for them. Sometimes God may send us on what may seem like a wild goose chase. But He ALWAYS has a plan. Listen to hear about the first king of Israel. For these recordings, I read the NLT version, but accidently read this one in the NIV version.
