Six years after Gore toddler Lachie Jones was found dead in a Gore oxidation pond, the coroner has handed down his findings. And coroner Alexander Ho has called for a third police investigation, concluding that there were gaps in the original investigations that make it difficult to truly establish what happened to the three year old that night. NZ Herald reporter Ben Tomsett has been following the proceedings, and joins us The Front Page for a bonus episode to discuss the coroner’s findings. On January 29, 2019, 3-year-old Gore toddler Lachie Jones was found dead in an oxidation pond, a little over a kilometre away from his mother's home. Two police investigations concluded Lachie drowned, but his father, Paul Jones, does not accept these findings, and believes he was murdered. Ahead of the second phase of a coronial inquest into Lachie's death, his mother, Michelle Officer, has spoken for the first time to the Herald's Ben Tomsett about her side of the story. Today on The Front Page, Ben Tomsett joins us to digest that interview, and how this case has evolved. Follow The Front Page on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. In January 2019, three-year-old Lachie Jones disappeared on a summer evening. Several hours later, he was found floating face-up in an oxidation pond south of his home in Gore. Police ruled it was an accidental drowning, but the boy’s father has long disagreed - and now has a legal team on his side. So what really happened to Lachie Jones, and is there any chance his father's fight will lead to a new investigation? Today, NZ Herald reporter Kurt Bayer joins Damien to discuss what could have happened to Lachie Jones. Read more about Lachie's case here. With the batteries recharged and footy finals in full swing, we thought it high time to kick off season 2 of the Ball & All Podcast. To coincide with World Mental Health day this Saturday October 10, we welcome the founding members (Jackson Connellan and Lachie Jones) of Lennox Head based men's mental health group 'The Healthy Minds Club' into the shed - along with our biggest crowd to date. With both Jackson and in particularly Lachie losing multiple friends earlier in the year and with suicide being the single biggest killer of young men in Australia - these lads got together, had the tough conversations and from those conversations, The Healthy Minds Club was born. Now a registered not for profit charity and with 350+ members and counting, what these boys have managed to achieve in such a short space of time and the difference they are making to the lives of young men in their Northern Rivers area, should be commended. Also on the podcast this week, we preview what is to come in season 2. We go 'Around the Grounds' and give our tips on who we think will win this year's NRL Grand Final and we cross the ditch to get Wallaby Assistant Coach, Scott Wisemantel's thoughts on the upcoming Bledisloe Cup clash with the All Blacks. As always we would like to give a big shout out to our supporters Bareback Biltong, 44 Constructions for the new swear jar and Peter Wynn Score for the 1986 communal water bottle.
