From cult NRL winger to one of Australia's biggest media personalities, Beau Ryan's career has been anything but ordinary. Beau takes us behind the curtain of breakfast radio - he is dominating on Triple M! - revealing the ruthless early-morning routine that gets him ready to entertain Sydney every day. He also reflects on the humble beginnings, guest appearances on The Footy Show that quickly became an obsession, and the balancing act of building a media career while still playing NRL—under one very clear instruction from his coach. And then there is a tale from Beau's Footy Show days that somehow gets more unbelievable with every minute. One of the best stories in ten years of the podcast. Funny, honest and full of behind-the-scenes moments from rugby league and television, this is Beau Ryan at his entertaining best. Beau co-hosts the Triple M Breakfast show on 104.9 Triple M Sydney alongside Aaron "Woodsy" Woods and Cat Lynch. Few athletes have made the leap from the footy to tv and the media as seamlessly as Beau Ryan. After carving out his successful NRL career with the Wests Tigers and Cronulla Sharks, Beau's natural wit and infectious personality turned guest spots on The Footy Show into the launchpad for one of Australia's most successful media careers, leading to hosting roles on The Amazing Race Australia, Gladiators and now dominating Triple M Breakfast. Before next week's full conversation, Beau jumps into the Player Profile, including why Nathan Buckley is someone he'd "take a bullet for", the greatest athlete of all time in his eyes, and the players who left the biggest mark on his rugby league journey. JB and Billy are having a little spell, so we're reliving our favourite moments from 2026. We start with a journey back to the Winter Olympics, where a bronze medallist's TV interview tickled Billy's Fanty. Then we hear Topics Brownless, and a Craft Attack about Channel 7's coverage of a Gout Gout victory. Alex Carey called in from Bangladesh, but Billy just wanted to talk about his business partnerships. Then JB and Billy take you behind the scenes of Billy's infamous nudie run in Munich on The Footy Show. North Melbourne star Charlie Comben had a very funny story about running into Billy on a night out, then the Western Bulldogs Cody Weightman joined the boys just before he made his AFL return this season. Billy had an intervention for our off air staff who were getting very ahead of themselves, and he finished with a joke about a call to 000.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Rush Hour Melbourne Catch Up - 105.1 Triple M Melbourne - James Brayshaw and Billy Brownless

JB and Billy take a trip down memory lane and revisit their favourite - and the most talked about - moments from The Footy Show. We start on the day the show was officially finished up, before reminiscing about Billy's Wheel, and the night JB wore a Borat Green Mankini. We hear about Billy doing a skydive, and the absolute chaos that was Big Bill's House. We remember a Footy Show x Saturday Rub crossover, when something Sam Newman said on Thursday night had the late great Danny Frawley fuming. The boys remember some all-time fails - like Billy's fan, the wrong prize, the wrong band, and an ice bucket challenge that took all day to go wrong. Finally, it's pants off, as Shane Crawford recalls dacking Sam Newman on air, and Billy takes you behind the scenes of his infamous nudie run through a park in Munich.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We hear a gigantic Idiot File, and list off some our sweariest guests, before JB and Billy relive a couple of Footy Show moments that didn't go to plan, and get inspiration from the Freo Dockers for a new favourite part of our show. UK comedy legend Stephen K Amos dropped by to talk about The Ashes, A.I, and MONA, then Topics Brayshaw gets interrupted by a surprise appearance from Billy's arch-nemesis Todd from Barwon Heads. The changing of seasons is not lost on our courageous heroes this week.As the spark of summer subsides, and the leaves begin to brown on the autumn trees, the often common bedfellows of Rugby League and Poetry  assume their natural and more favoured positions of front and centre in the cultural zeitgeist. Both lionhearted champions wax hysterical on the court cases of Lomax. He really should have had Ivan represent him. Ryan Matterson seemingly had Ultron, The Entity and Hal 9000 pushing his wears to a southern counterpart, all unbeknownst to him. And just like Ethan Hunt he managed to put the back inot the submarine and tell the AI Bots a few words about sex and travel. Discussed the knocking of centuries off many less balls, both on the sub continent and in Albion, the knocking of a certain coach who only 5 months ago broke a two decade premiership drought, the knocking out of a Melbourne front rower and the subsequent ban, the knocking of Bellamy putting Sua to fullback and the subsequent apology and retraction, the knocking of the vegas on field performance but the praising of all things off the field (aside from the final resting place of the games on Fox 2 in the USA Or was it Fox 8?), the knocking of the choice of apparel in the new Channel 7 Footy Show promo photos (and the duds wearing the apparel too) and the knocking of Australia's second best ever leggie. Get a grip Stu.Joel tells Johnny he's gone too far and threatens to jump across the Mic, but that part was unfortunately lost to the cutting room floor. All Grappling is done under the strict supervision of a Welsh wrestling coach. Life is enough of a Grapple these days.

Welcome our 20 year celebration edition. John and Ashley and some of our former co-hosts from yesteryear look back on the past 20 years of Not The Footy Show both on air and as a podcast. Both pick five of their favourite interviews from the past 20 years and share some ofg the stories behind them that you the listeners would not be aware of. Ashley’s top five were: Angela Madsen (Full Interview) Sir Roger Bannister the first man to run a sub-four minute mile, (Full Interview) Sam Goodwin, who educated us about the marketing of sport and the mistakes made by many sports in this area. (Podcast 65 ) Lord Coe Olympic champion, politician and now sports administrator, and his final was his childhood hero the great England goalkeeper Gordon Banks who talks about THAT save. Unfortunately many of John’s top five have been lost when the radio station closed, but they were: Former England cricketer and administrator Sir Alec Bedser who had fond memories of Perth, Dick Johnson the five-time Australian Touring Car Champion and a three-time winner of the Bathurst 1000, Andrew Liddawi who has done so much for adaptive mountain biking, (Listen Here Podcast 71), Kevin Alderton who lost his sight when in the army and then skiied downhill at over 100mph to claim a world record, and finally the man who pursued FIFA for many years to uncover the truth behind the corruption, Andrew Jennings. Unfortunately this is one of the intreviews that we have lost. There is also a quick look back at some of the changes in sport in the past 20 years. We must thank all who have helped us bring Not The Footy Show to you over the years, Darren Harper, Kodie Paris, Michael Fontein, the late Clint Ford, Anna Flanagan, Olivia Vivian, Simon Orchard, Dan Israel, Alan Dunlop, Paul Thompson and Mitch “Honeymonster” Woodcock. Matty Johns is one of Australia’s best known and most beloved sportsmen. Growing up in a small town with a passion for rugby league, his decade-long NRL career opened the door to a successful media career following appearances on Channel 9's The Footy Show. But as Matty admits to Ant in this episode, success didn’t come easily. Growing up in a small rural town, he almost followed his father down the coal mine. But after setting his sights on a footy career, a sibling rivalry with brother Andrew, and the mistrust he placed in his own talent helped fuel his determination and winning mindset. In the thirds, but hey it's pretty good. Dane reckons he has found his place in the thirds.Given David's history in Tassie we get his thoughts on whether the Tassie AFL team will succeed. And we ask him if he regrets any of the whacks he handed out on the field. There is one, he tells us who on the pod. And he tells a great story of his battle with Greg Williams, when he played with a broken jaw, and later when Diesel came to Carlton for the 1992 season.David talks about the brutal pre-seasons back in his day, which leads to him and Dane comparing 'sprays' from coaches. Wallsy was 'brutal' according to David, and Dane tells a couple of stories about Mick Malthouse being a bit out of control calling him 'an angry man'.Ralphy has some homework for the team, and for you, which is to watch this video of 'Scam Cam' on the Footy Show. David gives the back story to how it happened.David played with, and on, the legendary Bruce Doull and tells a couple of stories about him. And he tells us about his final game against West Coast in Perth, and how he forgot to tell Carlton that he was retiring. We chat about Dustin Martin and the criticism he's copping at the moment. Dane reckons people should lay off and enjoy Dusty while he's playing, David says that not a single Tigers support would be bagging Dusty, and Dane thinks that he might be the greatest Tiger of all time. And we talk concussions, and given they weren't measured in David's day, how he addressed them when he had what he thought was one.A great guest friend today in David Rhys-Jones, and don't forget to slip a few bucks and buy a raffle ticket at the Prader-Willi Syndrome site here.Follow us, share the pod with a mate, and support us if you feel the urge. Q: What is The Bonobo Gene? A: A theory linking men's propensity for dumb (aka funny) behaviour to a breed of African apes. Sharing 98% DNA with a sex and violence-crazed primate might be a bit of a stretch ... but in this laugh-out-loud, intriguing and informative new release, author Steve Marshall makes the link, backed up by research, anecdotes, tall stories and a Blokes' Hall of Shame. Steve is well-placed to guide readers on this journey into the male brain, having lived and seen it all as a script writer, TV producer, radio performer, podcaster, small business owner, mate, husband and dad.  Like men themselves, The Bonobo Gene as a book evolved over time. It's the culmination of two years of research with academics, business leaders, entertainers, sports stars, friends and family. The book's chapters explore different theories and ideas seeking to explain why men are the way they are.  In deep diving on men and the male appendage, the book skillfully balances the funny and serious. Steve provides insights into some of our best known and most loved sporting heroes and rock stars, toxic masculinity, #Metoo, the Hollywood casting couch.  The Bonobo Gene is available now at all good bookstores or www.wilkinsonpublishing.com.au    About the author (and his alter-ego, Sergio Paradise): The stories Steve Marshall can and will tell you. A veteran media performer and creator, Steve has worked with some of the biggest names in Australian entertainment and the sporting world. He has worked as a producer on a host of hit shows across TV and radio- Sale of the Century, The Grill Team, The Footy Show - to name just a few. Steve has done it all. The Bonobo Gene is his first book but it very much draws on his wealth experience in the entertainment industry over the last few decades. Steve isn't afraid to share his bonobo gene moments and have a laugh in the process. In 1994, when Triple M Radio green lit the Saturday morning show, "The Grill Team",  the show's three stars, Eddie McGuire, Jane Kennedy and Trevor Marmalade asked Marshall, who was Trev's ex-housemate, to be the show's resident showbiz and gossip correspondent. "Ëveryone knows you work at Channel 9, so think of a stupid name for yourself", said Eddie. So Steve unashamedly stole the name from a former D-List Melbourne cabaret singer by the name of Sergio Paradise who still boasts a place in the record collection of Santo Cilauro. Marshall expected this to last a month at best before getting axed, but in 2023 he is still appearing round the traps under that moniker. Since The Grill Team finished, Serge has been on Radio SEN ("Ralphy, Serge & The Big Man", The Richard Stubbs Breakfast Show, RSN Breakfast, and more recently 3AW with Dee Dee Dunleavy. He even spent a year as showbiz reporter on Working Dog's "The Panel", until a Channel Ten exec asked, "Why are we having a bloke on who nobody's ever heard of talking about TV stars when we can have the actual stars?" Good Point.
