The host of Locked On Stars joins the guys in studio to talk all things Stars

On today's episode of Locked On Stars, we take a look at the lack of offensive production from players like Roope Hintz, Joe Pavelski, Tyler Seguin and Matt Duchene. The Dallas Stars played one of their worst games of the season last night and fell to the New Jersey Devils by a final score of 6-2. Most of today's episode of Locked On Stars, we breakdown the Stars inability to defend at a high level and voice frustrations of this reoccurring theme. 

Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston are carrying the Dallas Stars offense since the All-Star break. Robertson continues to knock out career milestones and Johnston etches his name with some of the best players in Stars history. We highlight the two young players on today's episode of Locked On Stars. With an assist on Joe Pavelski's goal on Tuesday, Robertson reached the 300 point plateau in 276 games, he became the third fastest player in Stars/North Stars history to reach that mark. Wyatt Johnston recorded his 17th career multi point night against the Panthers while reaching 50 points in the first time in his career. He joined Brian Bellows, Mike Modano, and Glen Sharpley as the only players in Stars/North Stars history to reach the 50 point mark in a campaign at 20 years or younger. The Stars look to bounce back tonight against the New Jersey Devils who fired their head coach a few weeks ago. Things are still not going to plan despite their high end talent such as Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt. They consistently get scoring, but struggle to keep the puck out of their net. Dallas needs to keep the pressure on and close out this one against a beatable opponent. To wrap up the episode, we play Shooting Star! Joey decides to go with the newcomer Logan Stankoven. He's gone three games without a point, but not for lack of effort or playing well. He gets back on the scoresheet tonight and hopefully the Stars are back in the win column. Plenty of news came out of practice Monday for the Dallas Stars and the most intriguing storyline is Chris Tanev. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey goes over Tanev and the immigration process that may keep him out of tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks. If Tanev does join the team and is inserted into the lineup, where does he fit. The Stars and Head Coach Pete DeBoer can experiment some, but they have less than 20 games to figure out what works best. Joey would like to see Tanev paired with Heiskanen to put Miro on his strong side, plus spread the wealth with Thomas Harley to another partner. The key however, is to break up Jani Hakanpaa and Esa Lindell who have the worst expected goals against rate of all pairings. We also touch on the news of Tyler Seguin skating once again and the possibility is Evgenni Dadanov being out for the season. Then we preview tonight's game against the Sharks. The beginning of a three game west coast trip begins against the Sharks that took Dallas the distance a few days ago. Joey's key to the game is Mason Marchment and Matt Duchene finding a way to be productive without Tyler Seguin. DeBoer has struggled to found someone to fill that role and he expects those two to drive the line back to success. Marchment is without a point in his last five. The Athletic put out an article called the Stanley Cup Checklist and gives a grade to certain position and players based on those positions amongst Cup champions to find commonalities. The Stars get passing grades with Miro Heiskanen and Thomas Harley, but failing grades with Jake Oettinger and Esa Lindell. The article was published prior to the trade for Chris Tanev, does this change your outlook on the Stars moving forward? Plus the impact of Logan Stankoven in just a handful of games. We move on to the Stars shootout victory over the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks are in line for the number one pick this summer, but they gave the Stars a game. Mainly Magnus Chrona who was incredible, stopping 36 shots and matching save for save with Oettinger until Jamie Benn won the game in the skills competition. Joey was more concerned with the amount of odd man rushes given up in the game rather than the way the won. Coming off a shootout win, the Stars are 10-0-9 past regulation this season. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey asks the question are the Dallas Stars starting to find balance in their play? Coming off one of their best wins of the season over Carolina. With Jake Oettinger playing at a high level and the defense playing at their best potential along with a steady dose of offense we have seen this season makes them a very dangerous team. Oettinger has won his last 6 starts, the Stars have a goals against average below three in their last six games and their overall goals against is improving as the weeks move on. Not only is that a great sign, but their overall team defense and physicality came to light against the Hurricanes and it was one of the few times this season you could say the Stars were not over matched physically against a great team. They now sit 3rd in the NHL and have a two point advantage leading the Central division. Dallas must go on the road to face the Nashville Predators tonight in the final game of the season series which has seen the Preds take two out of three so far. The Predators best players have struck the Stars in the three games. Ryan O'Reilly has six points in the three games, Filip Forsberg has three goals and Roman Josi has three assists. The Stars must stop their best in order to win in Nashville. Finally a segment that has treated us nicely the last few weeks, Shooting Star. Not only is that a great sign, but their overall team defense and physicality came to light against the Hurricanes and it was one of the few times this season you could say the Stars were not over matched physically against a great team. Dallas must go on the road to face the Nashville Predators tonight in the final game of the season series which has seen the Preds take two out of three so far. Miro was rusty after 3 weeks off, but was really active in the game and did not miss a beat, Harley continues to impress and made plays all over the rink. Having Nils Lundkvist back in the lineup allows for more versatility on the defensive pairings for Head Coach Pete DeBoer and allows Harley and Heiskanen to play together. All of that leads to good things for the Dallas Stars. However, the Stars had some sloppy moments that cost them in the game. We try to answer at points this season why the Stars do not look connected as a team. When the game becomes chaotic and out of structure, the Stars really seem to struggle and therefore surrender more opportunities. It's important for the Stars to have good puck management and not allow the game to get away from the style they would like to play to be successful. The final segment revolves around Jake Oettinger, Joey states he is not worries about Oettinger come playoff time because he has shown he can elevate his play in the biggest moments.
