In hour two of The FAN Morning Show, Ben Ennis & Brent Gunning discuss the current NHL standings, with the Leafs tied for the top in the Eastern Conference and competing for the best league record. They debate the possibility of the Leafs winning their division, conference, and the Presidents Trophy, and whether they'd raise a banner if they become regular season champions. They're joined by Damien Cox (23:58), who offers insights on the team's performance, the importance of developing young talent, contract talks with Mitch Marner, and league trends regarding rising and declining teams. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.
On hour two of The FAN Morning Show, Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning look at the defence and goaltending situation for Toronto and what expectations should be for Joseph Woll's return. B&B continue the conversation, diving deeper with former Leafs' GM, now hockey analyst and host, Gord Stellick. The trio look at Saturday's game against the Rangers and what held the Leafs back from competing with the reigning Presidents Trophy winners; if it can tell us anything about where Toronto is in the hierarchy of the NHL. In the backend of the hour, the hosting pair look back at the Sunday Week 7 action in the NFL (26:41).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

Does the specter of the "Presidents Trophy Curse" weigh on Boomer?
Fresh off his colonoscopy ordeal, Boomer is back in-studio to laud the New York Rangers for winning the Presidents Trophy and having a top notch regular season.
Hour 1 Boomer is back from his colonoscopy and is pumped about the Rangers winning the Presidents' trophy and capped off the single greatest regular season in Rangers history. John Sterling, out of the blue, decided to retire. Jerry is here for his first update but first Boomer has two of the new Jets helmets to display. Jerry starts with the sounds of last night's Rangers win over Ottawa. The Islanders beat the Devils and they clinched a playoff spot as well. Jerry has audio from John Sterling from 48 years ago. Jerry does not want to be the play by play guy of the Yankees because he thinks it would cause a divorce. Sterling was with Evan and Tiki and said he just doesn't want to work anymore. The Mets got back to .500 with a win over the Pirates. In the final segment of the hour, Caitlin Clark did go number one overall to the Indiana Fever. Gio said the salary of WNBA players is quite low for professional sports. Caitlin will only make $76,000. Hour 2 Boomer was impressed by both Jalen Brunson and Coach Thibodeau this season. He said they were the best at each of their positions. There's no team out there that the Knicks can't beat. Boomer said Spike implied that the Knicks are afraid of the Sixers. They have to get to the conference finals this year. Maybe it is ‘94 all over again. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the retirement of John Sterling and Wayne Randazzo did a tribute during a Mike Trout HR. Boomer got to meet new ‘Brand Manager' Ryan Hurley. Aaron Boone talked about Sterling's retirement. Spike went on with BT & Sal about the Knicks potentially playing the Sixers. Boomer said Spike has a voice you want to, ‘punch in the face'. Spike got a lot of mean tweets yesterday. In the final segment of the hour, Gio was eating and drinking on the golf course yesterday. We also talked about the Yankees play by play job now that Sterling is retiring. Will Justin Shackil get it or will there be a search for a replacement? We wonder what Suzyn will do. Will she stay, and if she does, will she get to pick John's replacement? The Yankees will also have a say of course. Hour 3 People were upset at CBS for cutting off the Billy Joel concert in the middle of Piano Man. Gio can't understand it. You can find live versions of Piano Man all over the internet. We went to the calls and people wanted to talk about the Knicks as they head into the playoffs. Jerry returns for an update and starts with the last few calls John Sterling had for the Yankees this season. The last HR call was a Giancarlo Stanton grand slam. Jerry has 5 calls and wants to know if we can guess the Sterling call for players from the past. Aaron Judge talked about loving the Sterling HR calls. The Yankees lost their second straight for the first time this season. The Mets came back and beat the Pirates to get back to .500. Carlos Mendoza talked about Sterling's great career. Daniel Jones met the media and his eyes were popping out of his head. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer wants Al to go on The Price is Right. Hour 4 The Rangers and the Islanders are heading into the playoffs now that the NHL regular season ended yesterday. Gio said the Rangers have the most pressure on them because they have the best record in the league and the best regular season they've ever had. Gio wonders about the Presidents' Trophy curse and how that will affect the Rangers. Jerry returns for his last update of the day and has more classic John Sterling calls. He went on with Evan and Tiki and he said he just doesn't want to do any more work. Jerry has the great Sterling call from the Rick Camp game on July 4th 1985 when he was the Braves announcer. The Moment of The Day has Boomer wondering why the Program Director is now called, ‘Brand Manager'. In the final segment of the hour, a man in a bubble, on a tee box, gets launched into the air with a giant golf club.

Eight wins in a row for the Avalanche as they embarrass the Columbus Blue Jackets with a 6-1 win. A three point night for Mikko Rantanen as he approaches 100 points, a historic point streak extended for Nathan MacKinnon, and Cale Makar still doing Cale Makar things. We exist in a golden era of the Avalanche, and it's very easy to forget that sometimes. With the playoffs around the corner, don't forget to take a moment to appreciate that. Even still, what is the ideal combination for the top six as the playoffs approach? How many of us wind up doing what we want in life. Judd sirott is. The Chicago native is about to begin his 8th season as the radio voice of the Boston Bruins and while his goal was to do the same for his hometown Blackhawks, doing by play of hockey is something Sirott wanted to do as a youngster. He called 12 seasons of the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and was also the pre and post game host for the Blackhawks while also holding a similar role with the Cubs where he also did some play by play.Sirott took a more philosophical view of last seasons monumental collapse of the Bruins who fashioned the NHL's best ever regular season record only to lose in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Florida Panthers after holding a 3-1 series lead. “I think you have to be prepared for those moments. A lot of times, the team that wins the Presidents Trophy (best record during regular season) often fails to complete that runm” Sirott tells the show.Sirott appears to have completed the mission of landing an NHL job and with an original 6 team, no less. His audition for the job came against the Blackhawks so it makes sense the Bruins will open their season October 11th against, the Blackhawks! It's all on the newest "Tell me a story I don't know' as part of the Last Word on Sports Media Podcast and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spreaker, Spotify, Google, etc.!!And, for all the great content stay on www.lastwordonsports.com/podcasts
