We also address the question of whether this redevelopment contributes to gentrification in St. Louis.

This is part two of a four part series to help parents and teens improve their communication and reduce conflict. It's adapted from a parent/teen retreat and includes small group questions you help you process the material as a family. Today's episode focuses understanding the emotional love bank each family member has with one another. Once we learn the impact of deposits and withdraws, we can begin to build emotional security in our household relationships. We discuss applying the New Testament One Another's to our family, identifying one another's love languages, securing easy wins, and avoiding costly losses in our communication.   Key Points:
 1. The Love Bank/Tank represents the amount of positive emotional reserves you have for each relationship. 2. Everyone wants to feel noticed, loved, and appreciated. We get to be the hands, feet, and mouth of Jesus to one another in the home! 3. As a general rule, people need to hear 5-10 affirmations for every cirque, otherwise they become insecure and resentful. 4. The Five Love Languages are helpful in understanding how individuals give and receive love. Your family will benefit if you know which ones each member values the highest: Quality Time, Physical Touch, Acts of Service, Gift Giving, Words of Affirmation. 5. Go for the easy wins and avoid the easy loses! Parents need to eliminate cut-downs and comparisons. Teens need to understand that lying breaks trust and relationships. 6. A full love bank allows for a secure relationship.   Discussion Questions with your family after listening:   What was the most important thing you heard in this episode? If you're being honest, how would you describe your love tank with each member of your family right now? Why do you say this? Have you ever thought about how you've been called to be the hands, feet, and mouth of Jesus so they can feel secure in the Lord? What do you think about that? When it comes to the five love languages, what ones help you feel loved the most? Which ones are the ways you most often try to express your love to others? Remember the languages are Quality Time, Physical Touch, Acts of Service, Gift Giving, and Words of Affirmation. What's a specific way that your family members could help you feel more loved? What's an easy win way that someone can make a deposit into your love tank? Take a time to encourage one another. What are a few specific things that you like about the people in your family? If they are in your group make sure you tell them! Yesterday, we talked about each individual having a love bank. I want to expand on that. Imagine that your love bank is experiencing a series of credits and debits. You give love and you receive love. Let's say both you and your partner have been putting in pennies because you don't know any better. Each person is actually working really hard and doing as much as they know how to do. It may only take one thing internally or externally to break the bank because the balance is so low. It could be a tragedy like a death in the family or a job loss. Or it could be something subtle that triggers internal change or growth that needs to be processed. A low balance love bank is easy to bankrupt and the relationship is in danger of disintegration soon after without some serious intervention.   Want answers? What's valuable about knowing a person's love language? If you are wanting to show them love and add to their love bank, you can choose to put in pennies (their lower scoring love language) or dollar bills (their primary love language). If you are a gifts person and wanted to shower love on a quality time person, you could buy flowers which would be a deposit of a penny or share a meal with them giving them your undivided attention which would be a dollar. If you are an acts of service person showing love to a words of affirmation person, do you want to fold laundry and deposit pennies or give one exceptional heartfelt compliment at a dollar? Each person has their own love bank. It's easy to go bankrupt with the demands of life and relationships when the love bank is only getting pennies.    Want answers? Figuratively speaking, everyone has an inner “Love Bank”. When somebody is associated with good feelings, "love units" are deposited into those emotional accounts, and when he or she is associated with painful experiences, love units are withdrawn. Hurtful experiences with others trigger our nervous system into fight, flight or freeze. Those experiences of being triggered into fight or flight put strain on a relationship. The concept of the love bank helps us to understand how to make sure painful experiences are balanced out with experiences of safety and love.

When Rich Vicenti and Alesa Lightbourne were students at Cowell College in the 1970s, he courted, but she was not available. Then they graduated and took separate paths. They were both single nearly four decades after their last dance at UC Santa Cruz. She was in Iraq, learning firsthand about the struggles of Kurdish women when they reconnected on Facebook. Over the internet, they finally began the romance that was not possible in their youth.

Here are strategies you can use to invest in your child emotionally, making behavior and conflict resolution much easier.
