Luke Mogelson, a contributing writer at The New Yorker, is one of the rare reporters who has seen the war in Ukraine from the front lines. He recently spent two weeks embedded with a group of fighters from around the world who had chosen to travel to Ukraine and join the war against Russia. In a new story in the magazine, he writes about the sophisticated and incessant violence of the war, and the mentality that keeps these volunteer soldiers there, fighting on behalf of a country that is not their own. He joins Tyler Foggatt to discuss what he witnessed.

It was an unprecedented attack on the peaceful transition of power that had defined democracy in the United States for more than two centuries. On January 6, 2021, a mob of Donald Trump supporters besieged the US Capitol in rioting that ultimately killed five people. War reporter Luke Mogelson was there that day. His book, "The Storm is Here: An American Crucible," recounts how months of budding discontent led to that moment. He joined us for Perspective.

The title of Luke Mogelson's new book works on a few levels for us. I was going to play his interview on Friday, but too much was happening to do it all justice, so I opted to save the interview for today as we dealt with the latest atrocity from the governor of Floriduh. DeSantis is now enjoying all the attention he's getting for his perverse and sickening stunt perpetrated on 50 Venezuelans who risked their lives to come to the US to ask for asylum. We will have a few postscripts on that story, and a few words about the other storms we're weathering, both figuratively and literally as Puerto Rico is flooded and without power yet again... As for Luke Mogelson, the celebrated war correspondent came home to cover the storm he saw brewing with the rise of right wing extremists, conspiracy theorists, QAnon and MAGA world... We'll hear from him beginning at around the 20 minute mark.

I'll have an update on the disconnect between reality and the actions of a few assholes who happen to be governors of Magat states.... But we'll start with the news that broke last night... the so-called judge (named by Trump with zero qualifications to a lifetime appointment in a federal court) who bent over backwards to do TFG's bidding and ruled against the DOJ, keeping them from dealing with the reams of confidential documents stolen by Trump when he left the White House. To explain just what a travesty and perversion of justice this is, we'll start the show with Lisa Graves, who served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Clinton and W Bush administrations....
