Yesterday was an amazingly beautiful Florida Spring day! Low humidity, low to mid 80's, very few clouds. Took the family to Sebastian Park Inlet....a manmade connection between the Banana River and the ocean. A small quite water cove. Manatees were sighted while we were there. Great nephew wanted waves, so a short walk over to the ocean side so he could body surf there. Dinner at Captain Hiram's Sandbar with music entertainment while we ate. Then we headed home for a much needed long night sleep as we all got too much sun. So much sun that my already tanned arms and legs show signs of sunburn. Today's adventure....looking for gators a the Lone Cabbage Airboat Rides...then back to Cocoa Village to finish the paintings that were started on Monday! REMEMBER! "The Best Of Hours Shows!" posted until my return to new shows on May 20th! I always wish for you peace, love, understanding, and kindness. May you have the week you deserve...

Not trying to carbon date us, but we have also been around since the creation of the Star Wars universe and the Marvel one as well. What I am saying is that we have been lifelong fans of all things Disney, and we spend a lot of time around our family's table discussing a lot of these topics. Southern Florida is home to an aquatic gentle giant: THE MANATEE. But how much do we really know about this wondering benign behemoth? Noodles and I dive deep into the warm springs, rivers and tributaries of Florida to research this fascinating creature. As always we'll answer listener questions at the end, which include: Who or what did you learn to appreciate after research for the sun records episode? Can you keep plants alive in your van? What's the best hike you've done? Did you get to visit any other petroglyph locations while in Utah? Welcome back for another Sunday addition to the recurring series “Take Me to Church”. Today's episode covers Genesis Chapter 17-18! In this series I focus on capturing the spiritual experience of going to church on Sunday in a podcast format without the restrictive structure found in most traditional churches. My aim is to encourage the principles of critical thinking and free thought while dealing with religious texts and stories. The lack of “rules” regarding what can and cannot be talked about or believe in is the primary point of these weekly episodes. I want to provide anyone who is curious an opportunity to engage with religious texts and concepts without the preconceived notions which force certain interpretations on prospective believers. Another goal with this show is to more fully unify religions from different traditions through engaging with them in the same space. Join me every Sunday for the special series “Take Me to Church”, enjoy! Lots of Love
AJ and Mike are back with a lot to say about incompetence, the fires and Florida Manatees.
We discuss the possible impact on travel to the USA of the impending Donald Trump presidency while Simon reports from Florida on the often fraught interaction between humanity and manatees. With thanks to NOAA for the photo of a manatee and her calf.
Newsradio WFLA's Read Shepherd talks with Ragan Whitlock, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity. He's reacting to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's decision to deny "endangered" status for the Florida manatee, and keep the status as "threatened."

From boat strikes to seagrass loss, Florida manatees are facing existential threats this decade, however, conditions for the gentle sea cow are likely more favorable today than they've been in centuries, according to a report published in the journal Plos One. While manatees are long considered to be one the state's most adored inhabitants, research suggests they may have only arrived in great numbers starting in the late 1800s. Florida is very proud of its manatees. It has a county named after them and has pictures of them on license plates. These gentle creatures are part of Florida culture. But recent research indicates that manatees – also known as sea cows – might only be relatively recent residents of the Sunshine State. Manatees have […]

Cliff and Kendall are getting fungal this week and explaining everything you always wanted to know about mushrooms, but were afraid to ask! Then, it's the straight dope on manatees- you won't believe it! Also: segments like Bad Jokes (so bad!) and Hot Subjects (so hot!)! Don't miss this new episode that is like a balm from Gilead that heals the wounded soul.
Welcome back for a Sunday episode of the pod! I have found, over the course of my awakening that church is not a building or certain religious tradition but an intellectual and spiritual space in which we acknowledge our own ignorance and actively search for wisdom. This space can be created anywhere, requiring only an authentic desire to learn in order to flourish. In this episode we do some intellectual and spiritual exploration. We talk in depth about the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Book of Enoch, Genesis Chapters 1 & 2 and the possibility that creation stories from around the world are not competitors but different traditions describing the same thing. Lots of Love

Well that was exciting! With the 2024 presidential election results settled I am struck by a lingering feeling. The excitement of seeing populism flourish is overwhelming but there is another feeling hiding underneath the surface, a subtle heaviness that lingers after the celebration ceases. In this episode I attempt to analyse this feeling in myself and enunciate the reason it is there. Later in the show I break down the flaws inside the modern liberal political movement and attempt to speak directly to anyone who considers themselves liberal politically, pleading to rationality and the development of faith through loss. In the Season 2 kickoff of Robin's Nest, Dr. Debi Luke discusses her impactful work at the Florida Aquarium, focusing on marine conservation. She highlights efforts to protect manatees, an iconic species at risk, and her advocacy for their well-being. Dr. Luke also talks about Florida's climate challenges, especially with coral conservation, aiming to restore reefs critical to marine biodiversity. Additionally, she covers the aquarium's role in rescuing and rehabilitating sea turtles, emphasizing the urgency of protecting these vulnerable marine creatures. Hope you enjoy!
Losing someone you love is one the great terrors of life. We often avoid thinking about the day when we will have to say goodbye. That is why it is important to let yourself feel when that day does come because through the grieving process a truth of the universe is revealed. The conservation of energy, the changing of one form to the next is expressed in subtle ways that go unnoticed when we numb ourselves. Don't numb yourself! Switching gears rather abruptly I talk about the upcoming 2024 election and its ramifications. The choice has never been so stark, yet what that choice is, remains obscured for many. I attempt to annunciate it clearly for myself and anyone else who listens. God Bless America! Lots of Love

Hello again! It's good to be back in front of the mic! The last year has been chaotic to say the least. I have felt torn at times, as to how to cover all of the issues in a fair and honest way. If you've ever seen a manatee, chances are you were in Florida—but these aquatic relatives of the elephant also live across 21 African countries. In this episode, 2017 Pew marine fellow Lucy Keith-Diagne discusses the African manatees that live in remote, murky waters, and explains what makes this species different from other manatees and the challenges marine scientists experience in collecting data on them. Since this episode first aired in 2018, Keith-Diagne and her fellow researchers have collaborated at the first-ever African manatee conference and are initiating new work to help protect this species.

Manatees are some of the most unusual looking wildlife creatures that you'll find in coastal units of the National Park System, places like Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park and Cumberland Island National Seashore. They are huge – the largest on record reportedly tipped the scales at 3500 pounds and was 13 feet long – and rather bulbous looking. But manatees are also an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. There are many threats to manatees along the Southeastern coastline of the United States, from power boaters to shrinking shorelines, and even climate change impacts. To learn more about these interesting mammals and the struggles they face to build their populations, we're joined today by Tiare Fridlich, a manatee biologist with the Save the Manatee Club.
