We start off with a brand new video from the home of Richard Marx and Daisy Fuentes. These two horn-balls are at it again. Bragging about their sex lives while trying to sell you on Richard's ridiculous new box set. Seriously, who has a box set anymore? Chrissie Mayr had a disastrous stream with Melonie Mac last week. She tried to make things right by having Brittany Venti on Simpcast. It couldn't have gone worse. Chrissie tries to be the victim, the martyr, and the hero. It doesn't work that way! Whitney Cummings continues to make a podcast for no one as she tries to piece together jokes about aliens and the ocean. Opie is so jealous of the guys he used to know becoming more successful that he can't even pretend anymore. This time it's Kevin Hart. Punto. 5. Neón, guitarras y emoción. Rebel Heart vuelve a romperlo. 6. No es un programa: es una experiencia. Escúchalo y lo entiendes. 7. La comunidad late fuerte. Únete al latido. 8. AOR de élite, Esto es Rebel Heart. 9. Dale al play. Tu día cambia en 30 segundos. 10. Adam and Dan had a wild week before even hitting record — Dan's daughter came down with the flu days before her Peter Pan debut, his wife's boss unexpectedly passed away, and Adam's wife Amber is off in York, UK with a coworker who's never left the country. The Dogwood Festival happened, and it was a lot. It was supposed to be a sentimental final show with their drummer Nathan, but the chaos of a 30-minute festival turnover kind of took over. Shoutout to their production coordinator Christian who absolutely crushed the changeover. They played "Satisfied" by Richard Marx live for the first time ever, Adam debuted his new Vibrant guitar (floating bridge jury still out), and Amber had an absolutely legendary wipeout on stage during "Hungry Like the Wolf" — landed it so cleanly people thought it was choreographed. She's fine. The video is on the Patreon.Big Coachella chat this week. Three performances stood out: Sabrina Carpenter's headlining set was a full-on spectacle — cameos, costume changes, Will Ferrell as a grumpy stagehand — just a genuinely fun, high-effort show. Teddy Swims stole the weekend by bringing out Joe Jonas, Vanessa Carlton, and David Lee Roth for a set that was basically engineered for virality, and it worked. And then there's Justin Bieber, who showed up, sat in a hoodie, pulled up YouTube, and sang karaoke to his own videos while people lost their minds about it — in both directions.Next week: Adam went down a Claude AI rabbit hole trying to program his stage lights and the story wasn't even finished when they hit record. Stay tuned. Also — the show just hit 8,000 YouTube subs!

In The Past: Garage Rock Podcast

Some minor audio issues this week - Weldon's mic is too hot! - but it's tempered by a gentle song by The Monkees - "I Wanna Be Free" from 1966. Infact, they did two versions - the first is sweet, simple and stringy with a vocal by Davy Jones, the second is Dylan-bait with Mickey Dolenz singing.  Mod and The Rockers from Virginia did a garage version in '67, and then there's a soulful gender-flipped version by Vivian Reed from '68. Finally, another in our growing list of unlikely artists, we include an elegaic version by Richard Marx! Turn the volume down and enjoy!!

She thinks she's edgy but it's just nonsense.  After we learn that Ian Halperin enjoys our Opie coverage, we find that Keanu Thompson is now calling me a PDF file. Scorch had a huge announcement on his channel, even though he's retired he just can't quit the business of show. He just needs us to give him money, equipment, and content. Richard Marx makes a video with his sons to prove they don't have a good relationship. Bill Burr is losing his battle with anger management; the intrusive thoughts are taking over his podcast. Valentine's Day is usually a parade of roses and power ballads, but Dave and Rob are taking a scenic detour through the heartbreak aisle. The 80s had a special talent for turning breakups into epic events, complete with echoing drums, pleading vocals, and choruses that felt designed for late night staring contests with the ceiling. These songs did not whisper their sadness. They announced it with synthesizers, lighters held high, and enough emotional reverb to fill an arena. Whether you were dumped, doing the dumping, or just dramatically sighing for effect, the decade made sure you had the perfect soundtrack From Foreigner's wounded resolve to Air Supply's soft focus despair, the 80s breakup song was pure emotional craftsmanship. Richard Marx captured the ache of love slipping through your fingers, while Bonnie Tyler turned heartbreak into a full body experience, raspy voice and all. These were not just sad songs, they were monuments to love gone sideways, built with key changes and unapologetic sincerity. As Dave and Rob count down their favorite tear stained classics, expect a reminder that sometimes the best Valentine's playlist is the one that lets you feel it all, preferably with the volume up and the lights low Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/totally-80s-and-90s-recall/id1662282694    Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/11dk5TUoLUk4euD1Te1EYG?si=b37496eb6e784408    Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/1960c8f9-158d-43ac-89a6-d868ea1fe077/totally-80s-and-90s-recall    YouTube Podcasts: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH9lGakNgCDZUkkHMUu88uXYMJu_33Rab&si=xo0EEVJRSwS68mWZ   Playlists: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3zA5TNw3msEJvfvLO52qF8?si=I8Cq0N-2SVaNHDjQspO59Q    Apple: https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/80s-breakup-songs/pl.u-38oWrY5Ig5GBpk   Amazon: https://music.amazon.com/user-playlists/cd94569cced94ed3bd5c1ae36f8b4de6sune?marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&musicTerritory=US&ref=dm_sh_mggkjq9FAokZfxKoiZef5zVTX   Contact Us: Website: https://totally80s90srecall.podbean.com/  Email: 80s90srecall@gmail.com   LinkTree:https://linktr.ee/80s90srecall

The boys start with an update on Bill Burr who can't handle social media anymore. Opie is fascinated with rap lyrics that “the kids” are listening to these days. Anthony Cumia hops on as we watch Opie freak out about the rumors his family is no longer living with him. Oh, and he brought that up because a friendly chatter asked about Doggie. Michael Ray Bower has a very special New Year's message for his fans. Tequila Talk with Richard Marx and Daisy Fuentes gets crazy as they seem to be on completely different pages when it comes to their sex life. Poor Daisy can't see her side piece during the shutdown. Stuttering John found out that I had property stolen from my house and he couldn't be more excited about it. This is a huge victory for him and Ava. We've been covering Bill Burr's podcast since his meltdowns following the backlash from the Riyadh Comedy Festival. Adam Busch and Christian Bladt went to see Bill perform standup comedy last week and Adam had an epiphany. He explains why Bill's podcast is so pedestrian and unfunny. Christian joins us with a notebook full of notes. Lucy Tightbox is in studio and I discuss the previous weekend in Vegas at “Pulperfest.” John DiCaprio was the guy who was picked to organize the event and instead he talked a bunch of shit from his hotel room while keeping all of the money. Ron the Waiter used his special day to dunk on Opie and it's brilliant. Richard Marx and his wife, the very drunk Daisy Fuentes, livestreamed during the pandemic and embarrassed themselves spectacularly. Miss Judy joined Lucy on her show to break down some of the more ridiculous elements of Stuttering John's LOLsuit. Stuttering John has decided once again it's time to run away from the bullies. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with Richard Marx. ABOUT RICHARD MARX:Grammy-winning performer Richard Marx has sold more than 30 million albums as an artist, but if you only know him from late 1980s ballads such as “Hold on to the Nights” and “Right Here Waiting,” you only know part of the story. A prolific songwriter, Marx has landed fourteen songs at the top of various Billboard charts, and has written a #1 single in each of the last four decades. His genre-crossing songwriting success includes “What About Me” and “Crazy,” which Kenny Rogers carried to the top of the Adult Contemporary and Country charts, respectively; “Edge of a Broken Heart,” a hit for the female metal band Vixen; “This I Promise You,” a Top 5 pop single for NSYNC that stayed at #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart for 13 weeks; Josh Groban's debut single “To Where You Are,” which also reached #1; and “Dance With My Father,” which Richard wrote with the song's performer, Luther Vandross, and which earned the pair the prestigious Grammy Song of the Year award in 2004. Additionally, Richard has scored three major hits with Keith Urban: the Top 5 “Everybody,” and the #1 singles “Better Life” and “Long Hot Summer.”  Despite all his songwriting success, however, Marx is best known as a singer and performer who today jokes about his 80s hairstyle and of-the-era drum sounds. But the songs are undeniable, all of which Marx wrote and produced himself. His debut self-titled album yielded four Top 5 singles: “Don't Mean Nothing,” “Should've Known Better,” “Endless Summer Nights,” and “Hold on to the Nights.” His follow-up, 1989's Repeat Offender, was even more successful, going quadruple-platinum and earning two number one Billboard pop singles, “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting,” in addition to the Top 5 “Angelina.” More hits followed, including “Keep Coming Back,” “Hazard,” “Take This Heart,” “Now and Forever,” and “Until I Find You Again.” In addition, Richard's songs have been integral to a number of successful film soundtracks. He earned a Grammy nomination for his contributions to St. Elmo's Fire; scored a Top 10 pop hit with “Surrender to Me,” which Ann Wilson of Heart and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick recorded for the movie Tequila Sunrise, and wrote “At the Beginning,” a hit duet for the film Anastasia that Richard performed with Donna Lewis. Over the course of his career, Richard's songs have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, The Tubes, Sarah Brightman, Monica, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Paulina Rubio, Emerson Drive, Chicago, Billy Ray Cyrus, Vince Gill, Kenny Loggins, LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Julio Iglesias, Berry Manilow, Daughtry, Vertical Horizon, Lifehouse, Dave Koz, Jennifer Nettles, Ringo Starr, and many others. His memoir, Stories to Tell, is available from Simon & Shuster.   Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. 90s Adult Contemporary In the 1990s, while grunge was roaring from Seattle and hip-hop was taking over the charts, a smoother, more polished sound quietly thrived on radio stations and office CD players across America — Adult Contemporary. This was the music of big emotions, soft edges, and universal appeal. Artists like Celine Dion, Phil Collins, Michael Bolton, and Whitney Houston carried the torch for power ballads and lushly produced pop that spoke to love, loss, and life's quieter moments. It was the soundtrack for carpool lines, candlelit dinners, and Sunday mornings — a genre that valued melody, warmth, and timeless sentiment over angst or attitude. Yet, in its own way, 90s Adult Contemporary was just as defining as its louder, cooler counterparts. It provided a refuge from the chaos of alternative rock and rap's streetwise bravado — a reminder that sincerity and strong songwriting still had a place in mainstream music. Artists like Sheryl Crow, Richard Marx, and Amy Grant modernized the format, blending acoustic pop, light rock, and even touches of R&B into radio-friendly hits. It was the sound of balance in a decade of extremes — the music that bridged generations and proved that not every great song needed distortion or defiance to leave a lasting impression.
