Mariano Conti is a pillar in the crypto space. Known for revolutionizing smart contracts with Maker, he has built a long resume of building and investing in key projects. He's also a fascinating human being with a unique story. Tune in to hear Mariano's takes on how the pandemic shaped crypto's narrative, Bull vs Bear markets, finding passion and community, and his musings on going anonymous. ------
In this week's episode I speak with Mariano Conti, the former head of smart contracts at MakerDAO. Mariano knows the value of having permissionless and uncensorable currencies first hand —he started earning in Bitcoin in 2014 in Argentina because pesos would instantly lose value and it was hard to get dollars. When he learned about Ethereum he went all in and started working at Makerdao before DeFi was even a thing in 2016. When Dai was created, he was one of the first to take out a collateralized loan against his ETH and used that loan to buy a car. It must have been the first DeFi loan used to buy an actual physical thing. The crypto space has come a long way since with an entire financial system built out of money legos and this week with a huge milestone of El Salvador becoming the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. Mariano talks about this historical moment and why it's significant that it was a Latin American country to take this step. In our seventh iteration of the Decentralized Justice Broadcast we spoke with Mariano Conti, former Head of Oracles at MakerDAO. We discussed his origin story, the future of oracles, yield farming and what's next for the world of decentralized finance. Mariano Conti was born in Argentina, but moved to Mexico City when he was 6. He studied computer science at the Tec of Monterrey from 1999 to 2006, and computer graphics in Thailand. Starting as a systems administrator in the telecommunications industry, he joined the MakerDAO in 2016 as a developer and until recently held the position of Head of Oracles and Smart Contracts. According to himself, his personal experience with the instability of currencies in the places he has lived, in particular Argentina, drove him to discover Bitcoin, later Ether and the crypto ecosystem in general.

Hi everyone, this is an essay by Mariano Conti of MakerDAO that was so popular, personal and relatable, especially to those living in Latin America, that we decided to have Mariano translate it and read it in Spanish. Share it with your Spanish-speaking friends who still don’t understand what crypto is about, to show how it solved real-world problems for at least one person.

David Hoffman, Mariano Conti, Preston Van Loon, Trent Van Epps, Justin Leroux and Andrew (cyber_hokie) hoped on a livestream with us to talk about a variety of Ethereum topics. We discussed the coronavirus impact on global and crypto markets. Then we hoped in to the current state of Eth2 as well as what's on the horizon. We also talked about crypto narratives and if this is the time for crypto to shine as the world is printing money and finally we wrapped up with some talk about DeFi.
Maker Foundation team members Mariano Conti, head of smart contracts, and Cyrus Younessi, head of risk, join the podcast to discuss multi-collateral Dai. We talk about the recent transition from single-collateral Dai to multi-collateral Dai and how they think it's gone. They then give an overview of all the new features that come with MCD including the Dai Savings Rate. We then discuss how the system can now add different collateral types and would handle black swan events. This is an excellent overview of the Dai system.
Mariano Conti, Head of Smart Contracts at the Maker Foundation, comes to POV Crypto to discuss his recent efforts in promoting and growing the Dai Stablecoin. Much-Cooler Dai was recently released by the Maker Foundation, which Mariano had a large role in. Mariano recently gave a 4x

Mariano Conti, the head of smart contracts for MakerDAO and creator of SelloutDAO, and Peter Pan, the summoner for Metacartel DAO, discuss all things DAOs, including how Peter started Metacartel DAO after being rejected from MolochDAO, and why Mariano initially voted against Peter joining. (Peter eventually joined.) They also discuss how they came to form YangDAO, why Mariano almost rage quit MolochDAO after the YangDAO formed, and how other MolochDAO members felt about SelloutDAO, which Mariano describes as an experiment in "on-chain corruption." We discuss how DAOs are actually heavily built on trust and why they require a lot of social coordination off-chain. They also discuss funding for LAOs, which have a legal entity such as an LLC affiliated with them, why Metacartel is launching a LAO, and which types of projects should be funded by DAOs vs traditional corporate structures. We also cover governance issues at MakerDAO, why it has a CEO, and what role leadership in general plays in a DAO. Thank you to our sponsors! After surprise election results, the Argentine economy tumbled. The stock market fell 48%, and the peso fell some 25-30% against USD. What is the role of crypto in this type of economic black swan event, if any? I asked MakerDAO's Mariano Conti, an Argentinian based in Buenos Aires, for his thoughts.
