4 Things That Will Shorten Your Buyer Journey [Ep. 361]

Strategy in Small Doses

If it feels like people are taking forever to decide to work with you, this episode is going to show you exactly where the breakdown is happening. In this episode of The Real Truth About Business podcast, I'm breaking down how to shorten your buyer journey without forcing or convincing people into a sale. This is for service-based entrepreneurs who are seeing longer sales cycles, slower conversions, and a frustrating revenue plateau despite consistent lead generation. After 9 years of experience, I can tell you buyers aren't broken and your business isn't failing. The way decisions are being made has shifted. Inside this episode, I walk you through four strategic adjustments you can make in your business strategy, sales process, and pipeline that will help you increase conversion rates and move the right clients through your business faster. What You'll Learn:Why your buyer journey is longer and how to shorten it strategicallyHow to improve your conversion rate without increasing pressureThe role of trust and experience in modern lead generationHow to remove friction from your sales processWhy clarity in your pipeline directly impacts revenue growthHow to focus your business strategy to attract ready-to-buy clientsEpisode Highlights:[00:00] Introduction: Why buyer journeys are longer right now[03:00] The problem with relying only on content for conversions[06:00] Why buyers need to experience you before they decide[10:00] How in-person and live interactions speed up decisions[13:00] Where confusion in your pipeline is costing you sales[16:00] The power of clear next steps and focused strategy[18:30] Speaking to ready buyers vs. convincing the unreadyKey Takeaways:Content Alone Is Not Enough AnymoreHere's what I see constantly. Business owners relying heavily on content and wondering why people aren't converting faster. After 9 years of working with service-based entrepreneurs, I can tell you content attracts. But it rarely closes on its own.Buyers want to see you. Hear you. Experience how you think. If your business strategy is built only on written content or passive consumption, your buyer journey will naturally be longer. That doesn't mean content isn't working. It just means it's only one piece of the pipeline.Buyers Need to Experience You to Make a DecisionWe are operating in a trust-driven market. And trust is built through experience. This is where your sales process needs to evolve.Podcasts, live events, video content, voice notes, workshops, even simple conversations. These are all ways to collapse time in the buyer journey because they allow someone to move from awareness to consideration much faster.Inside the Focused Visionary Framework, this sits right between Pipeline and Sales. If people can experience you sooner, they decide sooner.Confusion Is Killing Your ConversionsOne of the biggest leaks in your pipeline is confusion. If someone doesn't know what to do next, they won't ask. They'll leave.Your job is to make the next step obvious. Not optional. Not hidden. Not layered behind multiple steps.Clear direction speeds up decision-making. Whether that's booking a call, joining a program, or taking a specific action, your sales process needs to remove friction at every stage.More Options Slow Everything DownGiving people too many choices feels helpful, but it creates hesitation. When your offers, messaging, or calls to action are unclear, buyers stall. They don't want to figure it out. They want you to guide them. This is where focused execution matters. The more dialed in your business strategy is, the faster your buyer journey becomes. Because your audience knows exactly what you do, who it's for, and how to move forward. You Can't Speed Up Someone Who Isn't ReadyThis is the part most people avoid. If you're trying to convince someone they have a problem, you're automatically creating a longer buyer journey. The fastest conversions come from people who already know they need help. They're problem-aware. They're actively looking for a solution.Your job is not to convince. It's to position yourself as the right solution. That's where your messaging, your pipeline, and your sales process all come together to support real, sustainable revenue growth.Resources MentionedSubscribe to Back Pocket Insights for FREEBook a CEO Strategy Call Learn more about The Missing Piece IntensiveLearn more about The Focused Visionary AcceleratorDownload the FREE Lead and Conversion TrackerSubscribe to the Sunday Morning Brew NewsletterAbout the Host:Michelle DeNio is a business strategist based in Sarasota, Florida, specializing in helping service-based entrepreneurs break through revenue plateaus using her Focused Visionary Framework. But once momentum builds, a different set of problems shows up. You're busier, things start slipping, and what used to work no longer holds up under pressure.   In this episode, we break down what Nate is running into right now, where time is getting lost, and what needs to tighten up if he wants to keep growing without things getting chaotic. What We Cover: What Breaks First – Why the systems that got you here won't get you to the next level. Where Time Actually Goes – How small inefficiencies start compounding fast. Busy vs Effective – Why more files doesn't automatically mean better output. Tightening the Workflow – The small changes that start to matter a lot more at this stage. In this episode of Talkin' Shop with ShopSabre, hosts Brandon Bombardo and Nick Peters sit down with longtime customer Brad Goodman of Goodman Metal Fab in Mississippi. After seven years running ShopSabre plasma and router machines, Brad opens up about why he invested his own hard-earned money in their 2kW single-phase fiber laser and how it completely transformed his shop. Brad runs a busy aluminum fabrication business serving the racing world (think Street Outlaws and local heroes like Cat Kelly) plus high-volume industrial production parts. He walks through the real differences that matter on the floor: eliminating plasma taper for perfect bolt-ready holes within a few thousandths, slashing post-cleanup time on runs of 200–300 parts, and hitting the tight tolerances his big transformer customers demand. You'll hear why speed, edge quality, and drop-in-the-box parts add up to serious labor and consumable savings that pay for the machine fast. Brad also shares honest laser operator advice that new owners need to hear. It's not plug-and-play, but if you come from plasma you already know half the battle. Learn what focus, duty cycle, air pressure, and nozzle size actually do, why you should run test cuts on your real materials, and how Brad had the machine uncrated, powered up, and cutting the same afternoon it arrived – all because he prepped and studied ahead. The conversation goes deeper than machines. Brad and the guys talk safety (never skip the enclosure), the unbeatable ShopSabre tech support that's always a phone call away, and the fab-community mindset of sharing set points instead of hoarding them. You'll walk away motivated by Brad's no-nonsense take on quality-first business, hard work, right-sizing equipment for where you are today, and why relationships and reputation beat being the cheapest every single time. Whether you're still on plasma, eyeing your first laser, or already running one and want real-world tuning wisdom, this customer story is packed with the kind of practical insight you won't find in a sales sheet. Brad proves that with the right machine, the right support, and the willingness to dial it in, your shop can level up without the headaches. For over 20 years, ShopSabre CNC has built American-made routers, plasma tables, and fiber lasers right here in Minnesota with lifetime tech support and a focus on real fabricators who want to grow. A housewife, a shovel, and a chorus you can't stop chanting—meet the story engine behind Mary Kutter's breakout. We sit down with the Broken Bow recording artist to trace the wild path from a bootlegger's legacy in “Devil's Money” to the hard truth of “Lab Coat,” and the darkly funny new single “Bed of Roses.” What emerges is a masterclass in doing the work that most people only talk about: 5 a.m. runs, 452 writing sessions in a year, and an album‑a‑day habit that sharpened her ear for iconic intros and crowd‑binding post‑chorus chants.Mary opens up about the moment a simple church‑front video sent “Devil's Money” into millions of feeds, the flood of industry DMs that followed, and how trusted mentors helped her separate real partners from fast talkers. We dig into the writing room lightning that produced “Lab Coat” in 45 minutes, why fearless lyrics about the opioid crisis resonated nationwide, and how honest storytelling can outpace any ad spend. In the studio, Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy break down the production moves—live band, tone over volume, and the “30 percent less” vocal note—that let Mary's character lead the record instead of the track. Then comes “Bed of Roses,” a country thriller with a wink, built on drums, a chant hook, and verses that talk straight. Born from criticism and refined with intent, it's the kind of song that makes you lean in and then sing along. Along the way we tackle label politics, the art of staying unwatered, building a set that breathes live, and why authenticity still slices through the algorithmic fog. If you care about country music that takes risks and pays them off, this one's for you.Hit play, then tell us the line that stuck with you. Camp Kesem is a nationwide nonprofit organization that provides free, year-round support for children who have been impacted by a parent's cancer—whether their parent is currently battling cancer or has passed away. One of its core programs is a one-week residential summer camp for children ages 6 to 18. Nova first connected with Kesem in high school after his mother was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, joining as a camper. Motivated by a desire to “give back,” he later became a counselor and now serves as a Co-Director. Bean was strongly drawn to Kesem's mission because cancer has always been prevalent in her family, even though neither of her parents has had cancer. She joined during her second year of university and says she truly can't imagine life without Kesem. In this episode, Nova and Bean—both CSULB students studying STEM-related majors—share why they got involved with Camp Kesem, what it means to lead as students, and the “safe place to belong” they hope to create for children and families. Jana Kramer, the actress, singer, podcast host, and mother joins us to pull back the curtain on the entertainment industry's less glamorous realities and share how she's found her authentic voice through it all.Jana's story begins with remarkable determination – handing her headshot to a soap opera actor while waitressing in Detroit, then convincing a casting director she lived in New York to land her first role. This fearlessness carried her through roles on Friday Night Lights and One Tree Hill before an unexpected pivot to country music during a writers' strike revealed another dimension of her talent. What makes Jana's perspective so refreshing is her willingness to acknowledge both her strengths and limitations. "I don't have the Carrie Underwood voice," she admits, explaining how she instead leaned into emotional authenticity and stage presence. This honesty extends to her candid revelations about industry politics – from being told her CRS performance caused single failures to restrictions on her acting career while pursuing music. Her observations about women in country radio illuminate persistent gender disparities that continue despite the success of predecessors like Faith Hill and Shania Twain.Beyond career insights, Jana opens up about personal growth through therapy, the challenges of balancing touring with Dancing with the Stars competition, and finding joy in her current focus on acting and podcasting. Her experience hosting multiple weekly podcast episodes echoes our own journey – navigating when to speak candidly versus holding back, and finding purpose in connecting with listeners despite occasional backlash.Whether you're a longtime fan from her One Tree Hill days, discovered her through country radio hits like "I Got the Boy," or are new to her story, Jana's resilience and multifaceted career offer inspiration for anyone navigating creative industries while staying true to themselves. Listen now to this conversation that feels less like an interview and more like friends catching up over coffee – or perhaps a bottle of wine, as Jana would prefer. The Try That in a Small Town Podcast is powered by e|spaces!
