An Pápa Emeritus Beinidict XVI curtha i mBaisleac Pheadair. The Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was buried among the Popes in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican today. Cuireadh an Pápa Emeritus Beinidict XVI i measc Ulacha na bPápaí i mBaisleac Pheadair sa Vatacáin inniu. Thousands of people who came from all over the world were present at the Holy Mass of Pope Benedict - Joseph Ratzinger, as he was baptized - in Peter's Square this morning. Bhí na mílte duine a tháinig as gach cearn den domhan i láthair ag Aifreann Éagnairce an Phápa Beinidict - Joseph Ratzinger, mar a baisteadh é - i gCearnóg Pheadair ar maidin. His successor Pope Francis II read the Mass with Benedict's bare cypress coffin in front of him. Is é a chomharba an Pápa Proinsias II a léigh an tAifreann agus cónra lom cufróige Bheinidict os a chomhair amach. In his address, Pope Francis said that Benedict was a faithful friend of Christ "who has given us wisdom, praise and charity throughout the years". Ina aitheasc, dúirt an Pápa Proinsias gur cara dílis Chríost a bhí i mBeinidict "a bhronn gaois, búíocht agus caoindúthracht orainn i gcaitheamh na mblianta". "May you hear His Voice (Christ) now and forever!" which Francis prayed to his predecessor. "Go gcloise tú A Ghlór (Críost) anois agus go deo!" a ghuigh Proinsias ar a réamhtheachtaí. "Father, I commit my spirit to your hand", said Francis on behalf of Benedict and the last words of Jesus on the gallows according to Luke as his quote. "A Athair, taobhaím mo spiorad i leith do lámh", arsa Proinsias thar ceann Bheinidict agus rá deiridh Íosa ar an gCroich de réir Lúcáis mar athfhriotal aige. 124 cardinals, 200 bishops and 3,700 priests were also involved in the ceremony. Bhí 124 cairdinéal, 200 easpag agus 3,700 sagart páirteach sa searmanas chomh maith. Mary Maguire from Letterkenny, Co Donegal, read the Second Lecture at Aifreann Éagnairce. Is í Mary Maguire as Leitir Ceanainn, Co Dún na nGall, a léigh an Dara Léacht ag Aifreann Éagnairce. After the Mass, the coffin was brought into the Basilica, where a zinc case was placed over it before it was placed in yet another coffin. Tar éis an Aifrinn, tugadh an chónra isteach sa Bhaisleac, mar ar cuireadh cás since uirthi sular cuireadh i gcónra eile fós í. It was not just a solemn occasion, however. Ní ócáid shollúnta amháin a bhí ann, áfach. Tight security was in place around the Vatican and over 1,000 police officers were on duty there during the Mass. Bhí dianslándáil i bhfeidhm thart ar an Vatacáin agus bhí barr ar 1,000 póilín ar dualgas san áit le linn an Aifrinn. Pope Emeritus Benedict died last Saturday in the monastery of Mater Ecclesiae in the Vatican, where he had lived for ten years. Bhásaigh an Pápa Emeritus Beinidict Dé Sathairn seo caite i mainistir Mater Ecclesiae sa Vatacáin, áit a raibh cónaí air le deich mbliana. He was 95 years old. Bhí sé 95 bliain d'aois. He was Pope between 2005 and 2013, when he unexpectedly resigned due to health reasons. Bhí sé ina Phápa idir 2005 agus 2013, tráth a d'éirigh sé as gan choinne ar chúinsí sláinte. Pope Francis himself is not in the best of health and was brought before the crowd at Mass today in a wheelchair. Níl an Pápa Proinsias é féin i mbarr a shláinte agus tugadh os comhair an tslua ag an Aifreann inniu é i gcathaoir rothaí. He kept himself upright for a while with a crutch. Choinnigh sé é féin ina sheasamh ar feadh scaithimh le maide croise. Proinsisas hinted last summer that he might resign if he was not able to fulfill his duties in the future. Thug Proinsisas le tuiscint an samhradh seo caite go mb'fhéidir go n-éireodh sé féin as mura mbeadh sé in araíocht a chuid dualgas a chomhall feasta. Pope Benedict's Anarchy Mass in the Vatican

As Massachusetts drivers head back to the roadways, there's been a troubling uptick in speeding and fatalities—prompting renewed interest in automated traffic cameras in Somerville and at the State House. Stacey Beuttell, the executive director of WalkBoston, and Mary Maguire, the director of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast, joined Adam Reilly to discuss the advantages and possible downsides of that technology. But first: a years-long push to let unauthorized immigrants get drivers' licenses is on the verge of succeeding at the State House. GBH News Politics Editor Peter Kadzis and Boston Business Journal Digital Editor Steph Solis joined Adam to examine the prospects for that proposal, as well as a push by State House staffers to unionize and a new Boston ad campaign that seeks to rebrand the city by rebranding the Boston accent. Now war was declared on the monsters of the deep. It was a conflict that'd attract charlatans, hoaxers and Pacific Islanders armed with knives — all of them watched by huge crowds because people trying to kill sharks had became a good afternoon's entertainment. Meanwhile, whipped into a mania by newspaper moguls, Australia had heroes to celebrate, to fete as celebrities and to shower with cash. Red Time For Bonzo: A Marxist-Reaganist Film Podcast (Ronald Reagan Filmography)

Bryan Foy's B-movie unit at Warner Brothers churned out some of the best bottom-of-the-bill features of the late 1930s, but B. Reeves Eason's "Horseratio Alger" tale Sergeant Murphy is kind of a nag. Nevertheless, this seldom seen army/racing/equine buddy film is a crucial item in the Gipper's filmography, as it demonstrates the studio's continuing commitment to the coltish actor as a leading player (it's his second starring vehicle, following closely on the hooves of Love is on the Air).   The film may not be any great shakes as a piece of entertainment, but it made a fine conversation piece for your hosts, who zero in on Reagan's unexpected espousal of post-structuralist/critical race theory in a key scene, marvel at the U.S. military's laughingstock/rump status in those pre-World War II/World Police days, and consider the evolution of Dutch's persona more broadly (this was his first chance to play a non-announcer/reporter character).  The supporting cast is mostly composed of nonentities, with the significant exceptions of Donald Crisp (a crucial Warner player of the era) and love interest (?) Mary Maguire (whose life took a bizarre turn the following year when she married British Union of Fascists scumball Lord Robert Gordon-Canning). Also! This episode was recorded in June 2018, not long after the dismal Conservative Party triumph in this year's Ontario Election, eliciting about 25 minutes' worth of spleen venting at the top of the show and prompting Dave to call for the unilateral abolition of suburbia.  Now is a time for choosing. Edward Williams - The Sex Life Of The Fern Strange tune title? Perhaps … but not when you realise its context. It's from the soundtrack to David Attenborough's 1979 BBC series ‘Life On Earth'. 2. John Martyn - Head and Heart Achingly beautiful loves song from John Martyn's 1971 classic LP ‘Bless the Weather'. 3. Shelleyan Orphan - Beamheart Caroline Crawley, the lead singer of Shelleyan Orphan, sadly passed away some months back. I was familiar with her vocal work on This Mortal Coil's LP ‘Blood', but had never taken the time out to explore any of her back catalogue, outside of her contributions to Ivo-Watts Russell's 4AD super-group. 4. Perfume Genius - Mr Petersen Taken from Mike Hadreas' debut LP from 2010, this is a song about a teacher he had in his formative years, who had a major influence on him, but later committed suicide. 5. Shiny Two Shiny - Moment To Moment Thanks to Mary Maguire for introducing me to this band. Based in Liverpool, they released 1 album and 2 EPs in the mid-80s. 6. The Strange Walls - Grey To Red ‘…. Won't Last' by New York-based The Strange Walls on Alrealon Musique is one of my albums of the year. 7. Worldbackwards - (Leaving Me) Now Minimal wave quartet from London who initially only released their music on cassettes (there are four of them, all C60s). 8. Peter Gordon & David Van Tieghem - Winter (feat Kathy Acker) Peter Gordon is the bandleader of Love Of Live Orchestra, a multi-genre downtown New York collective that has counted Arthur Russell, David Byrne, Arto Lindsay, Phillip Glass and Laurie Anderson amongst its members. He sent me a thank you email VIA his publicist for playing this one so often on my radio show this year. 9. Thomas Leer - Private Plane Amazing debut single from 1978 from Thomas Leer. 10. Lives Of Angels - Imperial Motors Lost classic from husband/wife duo Gerald and Catherine O' Connell, taken from their 1983 album ‘Elevator To Eden'. Shades of Can, Suicide, Depeche Mode, New Order. 11. Rollers/Sparkers - Kodiak They're from Dublin, they are responsible for my album of the year - ‘Interior Ministry' - and by album, I mean a coherent collection of amazing songs that make complete sense in the way that they're sequenced on the LP. 12. Let's Eat Grandma - Eat Shiitake Mushrooms I believe that this precocious teenage girl duo from Norwich are still in school (only aged 16-17 when they wrote this) and yet…. how on earth did they come up with possibly the best pop-song of 2016? 13. Scraps - Dreams Brisbane's self-styled ‘dehydrated disco queen' released a corker of an album - called ‘TTNIK' - on the always essential Not Not Fun label this year. 14. Blood Orange - Desirée This was my highlight from ‘Freetown Sound', an album which features more great female vocalists, many who previously were unknown to me. 15. The Paradise - In Love With You Made by Alan Braxe (who had a hand in Stardust's ‘Music Sounds Better With You' with Thomas Bangalater and ‘Intro/Running' with Fred Falke) with Romuald Louverjon back in 2003, I have Mike Smalle to thank for introducing me to this 6am afterparty classic. 16. Ruby & The Romantics - Baby Come Home Akron, Ohio R&B 60s group who became big in Belgium when this one became a staple on the Popcorn scene. 17. Liz Damon's Orient Express - 1900 Yesterday Debut single from Liz Damon's Hawaiian band came out in 1971 but I have my truelove to thank for introducing me to it recently. 18. Cocteau Twins - Half-Gifts 20 years ago the Cocteau Twins released their final album ‘Milk & Kisses' and when it came out I recall many of us being completely besotted with this song. Liz Fraser's biographer speculated that songs from this period may be about Jeff Buckley, but the lady herself has neither confirmed or denied this.
