The team discusses the latest launches at IFA, including the new chips that Intel hopes will put it back on the map. We also ask whether the USB Type-A connector is finally on its way out, and whether we need to worry about a new vulnerability discovered in Yubikey security tokens. Our Hot Hardware candidate is the IcyBox IB-180MC-C31, a USB M.2 enclosure that's every bit as versatile as its name implies.

The Podlitical team talk GB Energy, the two-child cap, PMQs, and pies. Following the suspensions of seven rebel Labour MPs for voting against the government on an SNP amendment to scrap the two-child benefit cap, the team discuss how the row unfolded, and what this means in terms of the optics that Prime Minister Starmer wants to project. As the new Prime Minister faced his first PMQs, with former PM Sunak as opposition leader, what was the mood like in the Commons, and what does it tell us about things to come? Also, do we have any clearer idea of who might be the next UK and Scottish Tory leaders, and could the SNP technically annex the moon right now?
Everald Compton and James Morgan talk Nuclear, and elections for the UK and for France

On this week's episode of Inside Business, host Ciarán Hancock is joined in studio by aviation entrepreneur Ulick McEvaddy. With his brother Des, Ulick has established a successful aviation business over the past 40 years called Omega. He and Des also own a large parcel of land beside Dublin Airport. Along with two other landowners, it amounts to 260 acres and was put on the market for sale in the middle of last year. With no sale agreed, they subsequently submitted a concept plan to Fingal County Council to develop the site for a third passenger terminal at Dublin Airport, as part of a €2.2 billion development. He argues that for the same money as DAA is proposing to spend on its own expansion plan, his proposal would allow the airport to expand by an additional 20 million passengers while solving road access issues and providing a platform for Dublin to become a hub for sustainable aviation fuel. Crucially, however, he doesn't have access to the runway, something that was an issue for bidders in the land sale process. You'll hear Ulick address that issue and explain why his plan isn't, as many believe, pie in the sky. Produced by John Casey with JJ Vernon on sound. Hosted on Acast. In a world where resources are few and the infrastructure is sparse, Agape Flights’ timely deliveries of mail and supplies are vital to sustain missionary families and their ministries. Hundreds of mission partners rely on Agape Flights to transport the mail and supplies they need while living and working on the mission field in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. Our good friend Allen Speer is the CEO of Agape Flights. He stopped by with details on the “Pie in the Sky Open House” event happening this Saturday. “What we're getting from both Musk and Bezos is this classically new age-y religious drama of disaster and salvation. They preach, they tell us that the end is near, the disaster is coming, that the world is going to end, but there is another world that everybody can build together, a new world and a place that they've never seen and a place that seems totally impossible,” says professor Mary-Jane Rubenstein, author of Astrotopia: The Dangerous Religion of the Corporate Space Race. In this episode, Kelly and MJ discuss the religiosity of “NewSpace,” and how activists can challenge the new “pie in the sky” ideology that billionaires like Musk and Bezos are crafting. Our guests on the ‘Sunday Times Politics Weekly' are pessimistic about the plan hatched by DA leader John Steenhuisen to unseat the ANC. This week Steenhuisen announced that six opposition parties would hold a national convention aimed at ousting the ANC in the next elections. The so-called “Moonshot Pact” was first mooted by the DA at its congress in April. Besides the DA, the parties which have signed on for the convention are the IFP, Freedom Front Plus, Action SA, United Independent Movement and Spectrum National Party. In this episode of the Politics Weekly, we explore the Moonshot Pact's chances of success. On our panel this time are political analyst Asanda Ngoasheng and Wayne Sussman (election analyst). Today we'll "chew on" the song, COVERS ON OUR HEARTS from our musical play "Pie In The Sky". It takes place in a small town with a big nuclear reactor. The kids in town want to get rid of it because there are so many health problems, but the grown-ups are slow to respond. It's based on the Pied Piper fable, about a magical piper who's hired to rid the town of rats. He leads them all out of town by playing his magical flute, (in my case, a drum!). But when the townspeople refuse to pay him, he leads all their children away, never to be heard from again. The story is a painful lesson that 'trinkets and baubles' from our capitalistic system, can never replace our much-needed love relationships. We each have childhood injuries and bruises, but the emotional 'covers' we develop to protect ourselves, make it more difficult to care for each other and lift each other up. Yet that is is exactly what we need to do to sustain life on our planet and survive here together. So our work is to 'shake off our covers'! I'm Peter Alsop. I'll see you again soon with another ‘Song to Chew'. In this episode you'll hear this deeply thoughtful, fast paced, dynamic tech professional begin the session with nothing clear in mind and leave the session with an actual drawing of a BIG, audacious goal. Meet Malea Guiriba, “The Pie Lady.” Her mother instilled in her the belief that one person can change the world – and must. While others see this kindly woman who tries to do the right thing and help others she's actually an ass-kicking leader who risked her life over and over again to stop a secret slavery that still exists today. This week's Song To Chew, 'HOME WHERE THE HEART IS', opens the musical stage play I wrote with Ellen Geer, “Pie In The Sky", which ran as part of our 1987 theater season at the Theatricum Botanicum. It takes place in a small American town that has its own nuclear reactor. The kids of the town want to get rid of it because it's creating health problems, but the grown-ups are slow to respond. It's based on the fable of the Pied Piper who rid Hamlin Town of it's plague of rats by playing his magical flute. When the townspeople refuse to pay him, he charms their children and leads them away dancing and singing out of town never to be seen again. The lesson that 'it doesn't pay to be greedy and dishonest', and that 'owning lots of things cannot bring happiness or love', seems to be one we need to learn over and over again. In today's American culture, our capitalism requires constant, unsustainable growth, and sustainable-indigenous models of 'having enough' is something that most of us do not foster. We need homes that are safe places for us to explore options, make mistakes and re-group, and where we give and receive support because we value each other more than we value our belongings. ~ Listen & subscribe to Songs To Chew anywhere you get podcasts, or https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/peter-alsop-s-songs-to-chew/id1446179156 ~ CAMPING WITH DADS = https://www.amazon.com/Camping-Dads-Peter-Alsop/dp/B08CS871QW/ref=sr_1_1 ~ www.FaceBook.com/WeLikePeterAlsop ~ www.Youtube.com/peteralsop = videos ~ www.Patreon.com/peteralsop = support my music & other artistic endeavors ~ www.peteralsop.com/music = CDs & downloads

Hey friends:This is our year-in-review podcast. Merf, Asherlee, and I talk about our HIGHLIGHTS of the COOL things that happened to various rad fatties in the world. Merf also prepared a "round robin" style set of questions that we all answered. She asked us our favorite episodes, our favorite guests, and new topics for 2023.I shared my PIE IN THE SKY list of my "dream" guests:Bridget Everett (Here is a link to Bridget's website.) http://www.bridgeteverett.net/And, here is the link to Bridget's show. For me, it's such a HIGHLIGHT because her character (loosely based on her life in Lawrence, KS) just exists in a fat body. The show is not about her being fat. Her character does not hold back in any way. She LIVES a fully realized life without much attention paid to her body size. HALLELUJAH!The others on my list are Lizzo, Linnea (sex toys and fat bodies), Lizzy, Melissa McCarthy, Jack Black, Fat Joe, and Asherlee suggested Jana Schieding from Rutherford Falls. (I need to watch this show a.s.a.p.) I've heard and read they have very diverse characters including queer peeps and possibly someone who is non-binary. HOORAY for representation, Oh and I believe most of the characters are Indigenous, I am excited to watch. In 2023 we want to have experts come on and educate us about P.C.O.S., Tigress and NAAFA to talk about their legislation goals and ways to make fat people a protected class like we are in San Francisco and a few other places in the U.S. We definitely need to get a sample of the Balldo so we can show it on our Big Sexy Chat YouTube channel. We are definitely going to get Sydney and Asherlee back on to discuss polyamory. The first episode about polyamory was fantastic and we are so grateful to Sydney for allowing us to interview her about it.We have so much to be grateful for. We have almost 17K downloads since our first episode on Feb. 14th. So much love and support from our fat community. Thanks a million. I am super grateful for Merf, Asherlee, Sydney, and Kadie. Scrummy delights this week include Meredith's delightful cauliflower soup and an almost forgotten oatmeal cream pie that Alison enjoyed. We rapped a while about halloween and how the world is cruel to Alison and Sheldon by stealing the few foods that they enjoy on the reg. Note: Episode spoilers below! Pastry week is something they do every year, so everyone should be well prepared. Well... so much for that idea. They kick off with Vol-au-vents. Normally a savory pie, the judges asked for something sweet. Key to the rough pastry shells is work fast and keep it cold or you lose that fluffiness. Many failed... a lot of leaking butter and flat pastry. Many mistakes among the the baking. We discuss Sandro a lot as he really is a good baker...but he continuously bakes for "validation" and loses focus on what's important. He clamors for handshakes and it's costing him. One of the bakers right of the gate was baking with no confidence. We surmise that this just isn't a week that plays for their strength and they capitulate to it. Sabirya was really the only one that delivered... and even that was "eh" We all agree we would have loved to have seen Kevin and James in this week - We think this would have played well to their strengths. Prue picked "spiring rolls" as the Technical... but they were truly more like egg rolls in the US. Spring roll wrappers aren't bubbly like they wanted. We all felt that some of the 29 ingredients were a bit weird... those mushrooms... we think "wood ear" were odd, and one baker just over did it... Another baker barely filled their spring rolls leading them to be last after an already bad signature. The showstopper was 3D Pie Stories. A couple of people took on the Very Hungry Caterpillar. One who had done very well until then, created a giant meatball like thing for the head...awful looking crust and WAY too much meat. The poor showing put them on the chopping block risk when Paul declared they "it is as tough as old boots". A Treasure Island design kept a fairway baker safe, while using traditional crust with a very nicely filled and tasty pie elevated a familiar face to Star. Too much freestyling and poor execution on a risky proposition sent a baker home. Semi-finals next week!!!! Scored: Alison: 25 Mere: 32 Sheldon: 11

We are a week away from baseball's trade deadline, and Steve Carney gets into the three different aspects he feels the Rays front office should be looking to try and improve for the push toward the postseason (1:01). He then gets into the names that would be tremendous splashes if Tampa Bay was able to acquire them, including what he would be willing to offer the Washington Nationals in order to land this year's whale: outfielder Juan Soto (21:05), what pieces the rest of the American League East could be looking at for the deadline, including which team could be a surprise seller (33:00), and finally which players he would prefer seeing the Rays front office pursue (40:34). --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/utorpodcast/support
