I love what I do, and it's a privilege and an honor to do it. I feel such a duty to report on things that happen in my community, in my backyard, in your backyard. -Maria Stephanos Maria Stephanos is a household name in Boston and beyond. This interview was taped in between newscasts at WCVB, Channel 5, www.wcvb.com where she anchors the 4:30, 6:00, 7:00, and 11:00 PM newscasts. And for good measure, Maria also anchors the 10:00 PM news on sister station MeTVBoston. A devoted mother, this high-energy, high-empathy woman has been honing her craft for 30 years and says that going to bed at midnight is simply routine. Born and raised in the little town of Groveland, MA, Maria recalls an idyllic childhood where she would climb trees and skate in the woods in a town with no traffic light. Her heritage is Greek (think My Big Fat Greek Wedding), and laughter, passion, loyalty, and hard work were hard-wired into the family dynamic. A graduate of Emerson College with bachelor's and master's degrees in Mass Communications, Maria got her start on the radio as a statehouse reporter and credits that experience with teaching her how to tell compelling stories. In this interview, she reveals that a scratch ticket and a conversation with a colleague propelled her toward television, and she's been there ever since. On the air for massive news events like 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombings, Maria takes us behind the scenes, painting a picture of what it is really like to be a responsible, compassionate journalist in the middle of a tragedy. When asked about role models, she quickly names her mother, offering one of her parent's golden rules: “Don't judge people. You never know what they are going through.” In this interview, we come to know WCVB's Maria Stephanos not only as a beloved news anchor but also as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, mentor, and running enthusiast. She's the real deal. Go ahead and hit that download button. #journalist #television #news #mothersday

A personal remebrance of my father Bob Clinkscale. It's a success story mirrored by others, but specific to my world. A depression kid from a rough background, with a world of talent that emerged in unlikely fashion. Father, husband, friend, teacher, coach, doting grandpa, and so much more. Special to me, but familiar to anyone.
Roxanne Doucette, 64, of Townsend, Massachusetts, is facing serious charges, including attempted murder after she allegedly attempted to poison her husband. The bizarre incident unfolded following a scam in which Doucette believed she was communicating with Thorsten Kaye, a soap opera star from "The Bold and the Beautiful." According to court documents, Doucette faces charges of attempted murder, intimidation of a witness, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer. The case came to light on December 3, 2023, when Townsend Police Officer Michael Marchand was contacted by Ayer Police, who had spoken to Doucette's daughter at Nashoba Valley Medical Center. The daughter, suspecting foul play, went through her mother's phone messages with the scammer and stumbled upon alarming texts. One message allegedly instructed Doucette to "get rid of your husband, honey." Subsequent messages revealed disturbing details of a plan involving a special soup as a "potion" and potential life insurance collection. On December 1, 2023, Doucette called 911 for her husband, reporting him as unresponsive. When he later regained consciousness, he revealed that the soup tasted bitter. The daughter, alarmed by the text messages, brought the evidence to the attention of the police. “One of the messages from “Thorsten” stated, ‘You have to get rid of your husband honey. I need you so much,'” police wrote in their report. “Roxanne stated that she needed to do some thinking.” “At 2:34 pm, she responds that she is ‘” Making an amazing soup. Special potion. He will be hungry when he gets back. Just enough for him,'” police wrote in their report. “At 4:26 pm, Roxanne goes on to say, ‘Hubby got back not feeling well. Maybe I can collect life insurance.” Thorsten responds, “Honey, when will that be?” Roxanne says, “Don't know.” At approximately 5:11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, Roxanne called 911 for her husband, police said. The report was for a 73-year-old unresponsive man who was still breathing with a cardiac history. Doucette advised emergency responders that her husband “was very dizzy earlier and is currently sitting in a chair, mumbling, not making sense.” An ambulance took her husband to a local hospital. During the investigation, Doucette claimed she thought she was communicating with a real star and emphasized her love for her husband and children. She cited her husband's recent loss of $8,000 to a scam as a source of stress. Doucette resisted arrest and initially refused to surrender her phone and tablet. Despite being released on personal recognizance after her arraignment, Doucette faced further legal trouble on December 12, 2023, when Townsend Police arrested her for violating an Abuse Prevention Order. She allegedly sent a handwritten letter to her husband, violating the no-contact order. Police were called because Doucette's husband had received a handwritten letter from Doucette, which violated the no contact order. According to police, Doucette's letter, which was included in the couple's bills that Doucette had a neighbor mail to her family, allegedly stated, “Please consider dropping the restraining order.” “That's a long time to have you out of my life,” Doucette allegedly wrote in a letter to her husband, court documents show. “I want my husband back. I miss you so much.” In an interview with local ABC affiliate WCVB, Doucette again denied poisoning her husband. “What they say is wrong. Because I'm a wonderful cook. My son's gone to culinary school. I learned from the best — my mom. And I did not try to poison my husband.” Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? EPISODE 192: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: "A group of Trump guys surrounded an Antifa kid and started pounding the living shit out of him," Tucker Carlson texted to his producer on January 6, 2021. "It was three against one, at least. Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. It's not how white men fight." THAT is the thing Fox found, at the last moment, just as its trial with Dominion was about to begin, that it could not afford to let out publicly; not, at least, while Tucker Carlson was still its employee. I raised the likelihood that there was something just like this, something even worse than everything that had already come out. Got that one right. That's not only why Murdoch settled - it's a major reason that Murdoch fired Carlson. It also suggests Fox is the source of the text (Exhibit 276 to be precise) because it serves a purpose for Murdoch now. It dirties up his EX-employee on his way out and makes him a huge risk for anybody else to hire. Unfortunately it also segues into CNN's disastrous decision to double-down on its live Town Hall next week with Trump. Not only was its moderator, Kaitlan Collins, still working FOR Tucker Carlson at The Daily Caller seven years ago, but a cache of her articles there shows grotesque indifference to human suffering to say nothing of Islamophobia. Her "ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE HIPSTERS: THESE GUANTANAMO DETAINEES DID IT FIRST" not only says Khalid Sheik Mohammed "took the challenge a record 183 times" but mocks the 'challenge' itself - which was to raise money for ALS Research and Treatment. She also mocked Syrian refugees in another article, and authored a pair of homophobic tweets in college. Yet it is Kaitlan Collins that CNN's political director thinks can stand up to Trump lying in real time. She can "prod, ask questions, follow up, and try to get as revealing answers as possible." It is this David Chalian quoted in a Vanity Fair piece explaining "we obviously can't control what Trump says - that's up to him" and how Trump's sedition and crimes "does not make our approach any different" to him. CNN is standing on a precipice. If it does not cancel the Town Hall, fire Licht and Chalian, and fire or demote Collins, both its remaining journalistic credibility and any possible re-sale value it still has, will be erased. Because its last line of defense against Trump was getting a pay check as recently as seven years ago from Tucker "It's not how white men fight" Carlson to mock ALS, torture, and refugees. B-Block (18:30) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: When Kevin McCarthy goes to the White House Tuesday to dictate terms on the debt ceiling, Biden may have a surprise for him: defaulting on US debt may be literally unconstitutional. And Chuck Schumer supposedly talked to Dianne Feinstein on Monday, except he didn't actually TELL anybody that. Politico merely read it of a photograph of the talking points he was carrying in his hand! (22:28) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A woman who slammed her car into BLM protestors gets a deal for FIVE HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE. Texas wants its Republican Secretary of State to be able to overturn Democratic election victories in Houston just...cuz. And Disney's unexpected witness against Ron DeSantis... Ron DeSantis! C-Block (28:41) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Joe, not only hit by a car, but needing two surgeries and a Rescue desperate to pay for them (30:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I was reminded on a dog walk why one of the best pieces of advice I ever got came from a man I worked with for only five months: the late Boston star newscaster Chet Curtis. Hear the harrowing tale of the day he walked into "his" restaurant ready to be recognized only to find nobody there knew who the hell he was. I ain't modest much, but when I am, it's because of Chet. A former high school lacrosse coach, 44, was arrested for allegedly using photo editing software to place the faces of minors on pornographic images of youngsters. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children apparently tipped off the Massachusetts State Police, who began monitoring Ryan Cook's residence and online activity after receiving a report from WCVB-TV. Multiple photographs of alleged child pornography were allegedly discovered in his possession. According to reports, police conducted a search warrant at Cook's residence on August 30 and took electronic devices as evidence. There was a claim that the youngsters depicted in the photos were between the ages of five and eleven. According to state police, as quoted by WCVB: "In some of these photographs, the children were positioned in a sexual suggestive way and/or were being sexually attacked." Photoshopped images of women superimposed over child pornography were also purportedly discovered by investigators. Two girls from his neighborhood were allegedly depicted in the manipulated images, according to WCVB. Allegedly, Cook was detained and accused with having pornographic images of minors on his person. It was reported by Mass Live that he was released after posting bail in the amount of $10,000. However, the prosecution has asked that $100,000 be established as bail for Cook. According to reports, Cook volunteered his time to instruct lacrosse at Wellesley High School for boys. DETAIN THE NUCLEAR KLEPTOMANIAC A BLOCK (1:47) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump is a nuclear kleptomaniac. And per The Washington Post, the FBI recovered "a document describing a foreign government's...nuclear capabilities" he had taken to Mar-a-Lago. We do not have TIME for a Trump appointee's bought-and-paid-for delays. Judge Cannon must vacate her Special Master ruling, or the Department of Justice must ignore it, and if necessary arrest Judge Cannon as a risk to the national nuclear defense. (3:52) WHY is Trump not already in a naval brig or army stockage? WHY haven't Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster, and Trump Tower been sealed off indefinitely until we are sure he didn't stash MORE NUCLEAR DOCUMENTS THERE? (5:12) We spent the years after 9/11 listening to the Republicans warn of "loose nukes," dirty bombs, unimaginable risks - this document IS a loose nuke, it is the written equivalent of a dirty bomb, and TRUMP is the "unimaginable risk." 10:30 On August 26 Trump boasted "nothing mentioned on 'nuclear'" in the Mar-a-lago affidavit. Now 'nuclear' has been mentioned and Trump must be detained in a secure facility until we know we and our allies are safe, and then we can decide how many decades his sentence should be for. B BLOCK (15:28) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Cider, in Atlanta (17:05) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment is finally used to remove an officeholder; the damning video showing Sidney Powell's henchmen going in to access a Georgia voting system; the would-be Trump Attorney General Jeff Clark fails to get the bar association's punishment against him sealed. (20:35) IN SPORTS: Minor League Baseball players seem set to join Big Leaguers' union, Chicago Bears announce a new stadium just as they've done continuously since 1989, and Oakland's Dave Stewart will be honored, but not for Lucille - and how Nancy Faust figures in! (26:23) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD (26:23) As the new British Prime Minister's twitter handle, the Ohio GOP skunked by Trump, and the Proud Boy who wasn't too proud to lie, vie for the honors. C BLOCK (31:58) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It took a year to finally get to the sports anchor desk at WCVB Channel 5 Boston, but only six months to get the hell out. Why would you hire me to do sports if you didn't want me to tell jokes?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

She had loved her job but knew she was ready for the next chapter. But what would that be? Over the next two years Liz would seek out that answer and in 2013 Liz launched Brunner Communications.Over the next 7 years she built a successful business that was 95% in-person. Sorry about the delay. I am working on a Zelle book and it has been hard to record. Ironically my first topic is about Zelle. WCVB in Boston had a story about a local man who was attacked by cyber criminals who commandeered his online banking to send themselves $3000 via Zelle from his online banking despite his texts not authorizing the transaction. Ben Simmoneau, the reporter, got the money back for this man and had a nuanced point about Reg E, which is supposed to protect customers from fraud. Bank of America of course did nothing UNTIL the news story came out...like always. Plus I talk about BofA Earnings, and how a $400MM amount was set aside to take care of 2 settlements. First one was something we talked about. $225MM fine for Unemployment issues. The other $200MM? For improper use of personal devices. I discuss the grey area that bankers have with customers info and talking amongst themselves. During WFH in 2020 with COVID sending people home to work, a lot likely happened to warrant this potential fine, which I believe ended up causing people to go back into the office more than anything else that was going on. Plus, I discuss the direction of my BofA book in light of recent events that happened in my life! NB Has recovered over $3.4 Million from big banks back to consumers, with nearly $700k of it being Zelle fraud! 27,000+ Followers on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram Buy My Book "High-Risk Transaction" Find all my social media and other links at: TheNotoriousBanker.com (Links to YouTube, my book's page, podcast links, and how to contribute by Venmo/Cashapp and much more!!!)
