Radio Producer James talks about how a severe gambling addiction lead to losing enormous amounts of money, in secret. James explains the stresses and pressures in detail, and how the disease impacted and infected every inch of his life. We talk about how his problem rapidly spiralled, the debt issues incurred as a result, and how suicide became the most viable option in his eyes. It sounds horrendous, but don't worry… we reach a bright light at the end of the tunnel. With the help of Gamblers Anonymous, James fought back and took control, turning things around. www.dontfretaboutdebt.net/blethered/ Contact: seanmcdonald.podcast@gmail.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/seanmcdonald01
CPC needs to pick a new leader......again.
D and I talking about the last week.
pretty much the same stuff we do every week
D and I chat for a couple of hours on various topics.
Today, Dom leads off the Dom Giordano Program by ranting against the continued rise in crime after District Attorney Larry Krasner broke down while announcing the passing of both a pregnant woman and her child after being shot in Philadelphia. Giordano plays back the clip of Krasner in yesterday's press conference, and wonders where the tears come from. Giordano and producer Dan make note of the impact of such a horrific crime, but Giordano suggests that Krasner still refuses to feel the negative impact that his radical policies have had on Philadelphia. Then, Giordano brings the discussion back to a common theme throughout the week, that being national anthem protests, after a Penn assistant coach penned a column justifying the teams decision to continue protesting through the anthem. Giordano tells of James Maguire, head of the Maguire Foundation, who noted in an Inquirer story that he will withhold funding from local universities if they choose to protest the anthem. Then, Speaker Newt Gingrich returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss and promote his new book, Beyond Biden: Rebuilding the America We Love. First, Gingrich tells why Biden's presidency is a detour rather than a sharp turn, explaining that people will demand bold change, returning us to our true values as a country. Then, Giordano asks Gingrich about his ‘Contract with America' that he produced while in office, which was an agenda advocated by conservatives hoping to preserve traditionalism, and how those values could be propagated in today's political environment. In this episode, James Maguire interviews Andrew Clement, who invites us into the world of data infrastructures that are both material, historical, social, and regulatory. We hear about the role of state agencies in surveillance and learn how to think through ‘the cloud'. After having listened, you will never think of the internet in quite the same way again. Read more about Andrew Clement's work here: https://www.sscqueens.org/people/andrew-clement Data as Relation consists of Bastian Jørgensen, Brit Ross Winthereik (PI), Caroline Salling, Christina Neumayer, Christopher Gad (co-PI), Irina Papazu, Jannick Schou, John Mark Burnett, Lise Røjskjær, Laura Watts, Lea Enslev, Lucca Rossi, Mace Ojala, Marisa Cohn, Michael Hockenhull, Morten Hjelholt, and Rachel Douglas-Jones. James Maguire hosts this series of five podcasts documenting the project 'DATA AS RELATION'. Data as Relation explores how big data is generated, negotiated and used in governance. The hypothesis of the project is that the use of big data and digitalization in the public sector and governance is not a mere technical upgrade of infrastructures, but implies a reinvention of society itself. The goal of the project is to study how innovative new data usage for decision making make new relations emerge between government, private companies, and citizens. How has access to big data changed the media landscape? In this episode James Maguire interviews Aske Kammer, who talks about data journalism from the inside of the editorial control room. Data's role in the production of new stories is unprecedented and interesting in so many ways.
