Nearly a century before Erin Patterson was put on trial in the mushroom murder case, Australia was scandalised by allegations that a young preacher from country Victoria had poisoned his wife, Ethel, the mother of his baby girl, so he could be with his mistress, Lottie, the daughter of one of his most faithful churchgoers. In this five-part mini-series, we delve deep into the life of holier-than-thou hypocrite Ronald Griggs, who shattered the commandments he supposedly held so sacred.Everything he said and did cast him as a sinner. But had this man of the cloth transgressed against the most serious of all holy laws: Thou Shalt Not Kill? With the case investigated by a heroic Melbourne detective, and the court case defended by legendary legal eagle, the scene was set for one of the greatest murder trials in Australian history.Part two is available now. Not the letter only but the spirit of the Law is important. Matthew 5:21-22 2. Angry outbursts reveal the heart and we are accountable for them. Matthew 5:22. 3. Make peace with your brother with all haste. Matthew 5:23-24 4. Make an agreement with your adversary be fore it goes to the courts. Matthew 5:25-26.

The Church offers us a consistent ethic of life from the moment of conception until death. In today's “Nugget Day,” we review the main takeaways from our readings about the fifth commandment. Fr. Mike reiterates that the Church's teachings on the value of human life stem from the truth that every human life is sacred; God wills each person for his own sake. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2318-2330. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. We begin exploring the fifth commandment: “you shall not kill”. The Catechism reminds us that human life is sacred, and we must not take the life of another innocent human. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus takes this commandment even further as he calls us to avoid anger, hatred, and vengeance in addition to loving our enemies. By forgiving and extending to others the same love and mercy we are willing to extend to ourselves, we are respecting the dignity of that person. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2258-2262.
