Mitrice Richardson, a 24-year-old psychology graduate, disappeared on September 17, 2009, after being released from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Los Angeles, following her arrest for failing to pay an $89 restaurant bill and possessing a small amount of marijuana. Exhibiting erratic behavior suggestive of a mental health crisis, possibly undiagnosed bipolar disorder, Mitrice was released at 12:28 a.m. without her phone, wallet, or car, despite her mother's plea to hold her until morning. Last seen alive resting in a resident's backyard six hours later, her skeletal remains were found 11 months later in a remote canyon, with her clothing 700 feet away and no clear cause of death determined. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department faced criticism for releasing her, mishandling her remains, and obstructing the coroner's investigation, prompting lawsuits and allegations of foul play, though her death was ruled undetermined, not a homicide. Her case led to policy changes for missing persons and mental health evaluations, but her family continues to seek justice, believing she was murdered.   Branch of Hope for May 2025: The JED Foundation - Jedfoundation.org   Chapters: 00:00 Welcome to the Dark Oak 01:40 Mitrice Richardson 1:28:20 The Brand of Hope - JED Foundation     Sources: Suspicious death: Mitrice Richardson | Malibu, CA | Uncovered. In the summer of 2009, 24-year-old Mitrice Richardson was living in Los Angeles, California. She had recently graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in psychology and was searching for the perfect doctorate program to continue her studies and pursue her dream of becoming a psychologist. On the night of September 16, she went to a restaurant in Malibu, where she began exhibiting some strange behavior. While some people thought maybe Mitrice was drunk or on some type of drug it became apparent that she was actually struggling with her mental health.   Mitrice didn't pay her bill, but the workers weren't really concerned about that. They even discussed pulling their money together to help her. They were more concerned that she was obviously going through some type of crisis. So, they called the police, who then made the call that she did not need to be evaluated by a mental health professional. She was instead arrested and taken to jail. Her car was impounded, along with her cell phone and wallet.   A few hours later, at 12:38 a.m., Mitrice was released without any of her belongings, no money, no phone, and no car.   Almost a year later, in August 2010, Mitrice's remains were located. Since then, the cause of her death has become a major topic of debate for her loved ones, the city, and across true crime. Almost immediately, investigators said no foul play was involved in Mitrice's death.    But her loved ones and even certain members of law enforcement have voiced their concerns that the evidence suggests otherwise.   Mitrice's mentor, Dr. Ronda Hampton, joins us this week to discuss the case in a very candid interview.   Anyone with information is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department at (213) 486-6900. On September 16th, 2009, Mitrice Richardson was in jail for acting bizarrely in a restaurant in Malibu, not being able to pay for her food, and having less than an ounce of marijuana on her. As you get to know Mitrice through the episode, all of this was so out of character for her. It's likely Mitrice was suffering with bipolar disorder but it crept up slowly through the years, barely detectable. That night, it's believed she had a mental breakdown after not sleeping for five nights. Her mother, Latice, called the station and said since her daughter would be at the jail until morning, she would come pick her up. Morning came sooner than expected. Mitrice was free to go from the station a little after 12AM on September 17th. Latice was not notified. Mitrice was in Malibu, a place she was not familiar with, 40 miles away from home. Her cellphone and purse were in her car, which they had towed off to a tow yard on the Pacific Coast Hwy.After Mitrice left the police station, she walked off into the darkness, never to be seen alive again. In regards to Mitrice's disappearance and strange death, you might start to question everything…• Mike Kessler's LA Magazine feature: https://www.lamag.com/longform/what-happened-to-mitrice-richardson• Ronda Hampton's Data Dump: https://thelocalmalibu.com/huge-data-dump-in-mitrice-richardson-case-in-solving-the-thirteen-year-cold-case/--Socials | Website | Contact | Patreon--Twitter: https://www.Twitter.com/ReverieCrimePodInstagram: https://www.Instagram.com/ReverieTrueCrimeTumblr: https://reverietruecrime.tumblr.comFacebook: https;//www.Facebook.com/ReverieTrueCrimeContact: ReverieTrueCrime@gmail.comWebsite: https://reverietruecrime.wix.com/podcastPatreon: https://www.Patreon.com/ReverieTrueCrime SOURCES:https://malibutimes.com/mitrice-richardson-case-re-established-12-years-laterhttps://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/mitrice-richardson-case-reward-mysterious-and-controversial-death/2848312/https://www.foxla.com/news/county-increases-reward-in-mitrice-richardson-disappearance-deathhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/826857221/https://www.allgaylong.com/blog/the-frustrating-disappearance-of-mitrice-richardson/ https://www.newspapers.com/image/193628377/https://abc7news.com/archive/8581482/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193742662/https://laist.com/news/mitrice-richardson-disappearance-10-year-anniversaryhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/603876279/https://www.newspapers.com/image/603876254/https://www.newspapers.com/image/609072842/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Mitrice_Richardsonhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/194023976/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193229949/ https://www.newspapers.com/image/193230094/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193350362/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193398267/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193445609/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193447043/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193463853/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193475965/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193256173/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193914552/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193487871/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193944201/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193515686/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193868323/https://www.newspapers.com/image/568131707/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193586558/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193588429/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193383404/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193624747/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193389142/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193397993/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193402342/ https://www.newspapers.com/image/193659090/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193659210/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193512782/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193663545/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193382535/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193907633/ https://www.newspapers.com/image/483108346/https://www.newspapers.com/image/796024534/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193484379/https://www.newspapers.com/image/337930547/https://www.newspapers.com/image/285252859/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193578193/https://www.newspapers.com/image/569384487/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193828588/https://www.newspapers.com/image/193510693/

On August 16 2009, Mitrice Richardson went missing after she was arrested by the LA County Sheriff's Department. Mitrice was a recent college graduate with no previous arrests or history of mental illness. But at the time of her arrest Mitrice was in the midst of a mental health crisis. She was acting strangely at an upscale restaurant in Malibu and tried to walk out without paying the bill. Mitrice's mom begged deputies not to release her daughter until she could be there to pick her up. But that is exactly what happened. Mitrice was released at midnight, alone, with no car, no phone, no wallet, and no way to find her way around in this unfamiliar area. And then, almost a year later, Mitrice was found dead.

Malibu, California. September 16, 2009. Mitrice Richardson had not been herself for a while. One day in mid-September, 24-year-old Mitrice was arrested for being unable to pay her bill at an exclusive Malibu restaurant. She was taken to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. Her mother, Latice, was assured by a sheriff's deputy that she would be kept in custody over night. But this was not to be; Mitrice ended up being released in the middle of the night with no purse, phone, or any personal belongings. No one truly knows what happened to Mitrice that night.Eleven months later, her partially-mummified remains were discovered at the bottom of a canyon. Mitrice's devastated family and friends were desperate for answers. The LA County Sheriff's Department, on the other hand, had no interest in finding out what happened. MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF: Mitrice Richardson Part 2 Mitrice Lavon Richardson (born April 30, 1985 – remains found August 9, 2010) was a 24-year-old African-American woman who went missing on September 17, 2009, after police claim she was released from a jail in Calabasas, California, where she had been taken after behaving erratically at a restaurant. She was missing for 11 months before being found deceased in August 2010 by park rangers.[1] Richardson's parents have maintained that their daughter should never have been released on her own by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, given her obviously disturbed condition. In 2011, the Richardson family settled the civil lawsuit with L.A. County privately for $900,000. In January 2017, the California Attorney General's office concluded an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Richardson's release from jail and decided not to bring charges against anyone involved in her release.[2] about 1 year ago #2, #death, #ed, #mitrice, #mysterious, #of:, #opperman, #part, #report, #richardson, #spreaker

Mitrice Lavon Richardson was a 24-year-old Black woman from Covina, California. She was beautiful, fun-loving, and possessed an insane amount of drive. On the evening of September 16, 2009, Mitrice drove to a restaurant in Malibu, where she exhibited strange, erratic behavior. The police were called when she didn't pay her bill, and she was brought to the Malibu-Lost Hills police station. At 1:25 am, she was released from the police station, however this would be the last night anyone would see Mitrice alive.
