What happens when success looks good on paper—but feels heavy behind the scenes? In this episode, Stacey sits down with longtime friend and seasoned short-term rental operator Beata Lawrence for a deeply honest conversation about leadership, loneliness, and the power of the right community. With over a decade in the STR industry, Beata shares what it was like building before there were playbooks, Facebook groups, or proven paths—and how connection became the missing ingredient that changed everything. This episode goes beyond tactics and into the emotional and identity shifts required to sustain success without burnout. We talk about:What it was really like building an STR business before community and resources existedWhy isolation is one of the biggest (and quietest) threats to successful entrepreneursThe concept of “borrowed courage” and why even confident leaders need itHow to recognize when you've outgrown a room—and what to do nextLetting go of properties, paths, or identities that no longer alignWhy alignment, nervous-system safety, and support matter more than scale aloneIf you've ever felt successful but unsupported, confident but quietly overwhelmed, or strong while still wishing someone could walk you off the ledge—this conversation is your reminder that community isn't a luxury. It's a requirement.⏱️ Highlights & Key Moments[02:52] Beata shares what it felt like building in the early days with no roadmap[07:14] The emotional cost of “figuring it out alone”[10:54] Borrowed courage: leaning on others when your confidence wavers[15:18] Knowing when a property—or a season—is no longer aligned[19:17] Outgrowing communities and why staying too long can stall growth[24:47] Why success without support is not sustainable[30:04] Redefining what “enough” looks like in business and lifeGolden Nuggets“You don't need more information—you need the right people.”“Borrowed courage can carry you until yours catches up.”“Just because something is profitable doesn't mean it's sustainable for you.”“Outgrowing a room isn't betrayal—it's evolution.”“You were never meant to do hard things alone.”

I need you to hear this story. A stay-at-home mom with a traveling husband hit a breaking point with suburban life and said, "If I'm doing this, I might as well be at the beach." Her husband agreed to buying a beach house only if it made financial sense. So she made it work. Ninety days later, they closed on their first short-term rental on the coast of North Carolina. It performed not because she followed a guru or a playbook, but because she designed the experience the way she wanted to vacation. That mom is Beata Lornic, and this episode of Branded & Booked is one of the most grounded conversations I've had about what actually works in short-term rentals. Her early success led to rapid growth, and then the hard stuff hit. Hurricanes destroyed properties. STR bans and neighbor pushback followed. Markets stopped being forgiving. Instead of quitting, she rebuilt, shifted inland, refined her model, and focused on intentional, high-confidence properties that fit her life and risk tolerance. If you take one thing from this episode, let it be this: the hosts who are still winning aren't doing more. They're being more intentional. If you're overwhelmed by the noise or wondering what still works in 2026, this conversation will ground you. Connect with Steph: @theweberco Connect with Beata: theboutiquepm.com

Gdyby doszło do zagrożenia, bez USA zostalibyśmy sami.

To moment, w którym codzienne chwile stają się źródłem zachwytu i wdzięczności, a my przestajemy mierzyć i optymalizować naszą rzeczywistość. θαυμάζειν).To pojęcie fundamentalne dla całej zachodniej myśli, bo to właśnie w nim Platon i Arystoteles upatrywali początku wszelkiej filozofii. To dokładnie to drżenie, o którym Beata Pawlikowska opowiada w kontekście mgły nad Biebrzą.Początek drogi: Zdziwienie rodzi pytania, a pytania rodzą wiedzę. Ale u źródeł zawsze stoi to „Wielkie Ach” – uznanie, że rzeczywistość nas przerasta i jest piękna w swojej nieprzeliczalności.#WielkieAch #BeataPawlikowska #RadośćŻycia #Uważność #Podcast #Archiwum #SpacerBezCelu #Biebrza@milka.malzahnvideo i zdjecia, i montaż - Miłka oraz Video by Joshua Woroniecki from PixabayVideo by XanhSen901 from PixabayVideo by agentluca from Pixabay________________________Chcesz wiedzieć więcej?

In this discussion of Season 4's third episode, we somberly discuss the tragic death of—um, who? Beata? Who the heck is Beata? Sadly, the young refugee was struck down just as we were getting to know…well, pretty much anything about her. But that's okay, we have plenty of other things to discuss over our bottle of Hye-Land 12-Year Single Malt Armenian Whiskey. Like how Regis is clearly just a regular, ordinary human that just happens to have remarkable pain tolerance. And how wearing a bra on the outside of your dress may actually be quite practical. And how you really should aspire to do more with your magical abilities than to be turned into portal goo. But mostly how disappointed we were that Geralt of Rawvia and Yennefer of Bangerberg didn't actually use that unicorn they had on stage. But hey, we DID get the debut of Leo Bonhart, who mercilessly took the life of—wait, what was that Witcher's name again?

In a stunning legal reversal that's shaking the true crime and justice world, the Florida appellate court has overturned the $213.5 million verdict in the Maya Kowalski case — one of the most emotionally charged courtroom battles in recent memory. Former FBI agent and true crime analyst Jennifer Coffindaffer sits down with legal expert Dave Ehrenberg to dissect what went wrong and what comes next in this explosive new episode of Break the Case. For those unfamiliar, Maya Kowalski suffered from a rare pain condition known as CRPS. While hospitalized, her mother, Beata Kowalski, was accused by doctors of suffering from Munchausen by proxy — a form of abuse involving fabricating or inducing illness in a child. When Beata was prevented from seeing Maya for more than 80 days, the distraught mother fell into a deep depression and ultimately took her own life, leaving behind a note pleading for her daughter's release. A Florida jury later awarded the Kowalski family over $200 million in damages, holding Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital accountable for false imprisonment, emotional distress, and wrongful death. But now, the Second District Court of Appeals has vacated that verdict entirely, citing major errors by the trial judge — particularly around Florida's “mandatory reporter” immunity laws. The appellate court ruled that hospital staff, acting as mandatory reporters of suspected abuse, were shielded by law and acted in good faith when they contacted child protection authorities. This means a new trial will move forward, but only for a limited set of claims: battery, medical negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress on behalf of Maya herself. Beata's death, which once anchored the case's emotional gravity, may only be referenced as context. The decision not only erases a massive verdict but also sets a crucial precedent for hospitals and medical professionals across Florida. Coffindaffer and Ehrenberg's discussion peels back the layers of this controversial ruling — a reminder that even in the pursuit of justice, emotion and law often collide. This is more than a case; it's a tragedy, a legal reckoning, and a lesson in how far institutions will go to protect themselves under the letter of the law. #TrueCrime #MayaKowalski #BeataKowalski #JohnsHopkinsHospital #LegalAnalysis #BreakingNews #JusticeForMaya #CourtAppeal #FloridaLaw #InvestigativeNews Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? A Florida appeals court has overturned the $213.5 million verdict once awarded to Maya Kowalski and her family — the same case that inspired the Netflix documentary Take Care of Maya. In 2016, Maya Kowalski, then just ten years old, was admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital for complications related to Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a rare and debilitating pain condition. Her mother, Beata Kowalski, a registered nurse, had been pursuing aggressive ketamine treatments to relieve her daughter's suffering. But when hospital staff grew suspicious of the treatment plan and Beata's behavior, they reported suspected child abuse to Florida's Department of Children and Families. Under state law, they had no choice. That single report changed everything. Maya was placed under state custody, separated from her mother for months. Beata, cut off from her daughter and accused of being an abuser, took her own life. Years later, a jury sided with the Kowalski family, holding the hospital liable for false imprisonment, emotional distress, and wrongful death, awarding them over $250 million — later reduced to $213.5 million. Now, the Second District Court of Appeal has reversed that decision, citing Florida's mandatory reporter immunity laws under Chapter 39. The court ruled that Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital acted as an agent of the state after reporting the suspected abuse and was therefore protected from liability for many of the claims. The ruling effectively vacates the entire verdict and limits any future retrial to a narrow scope: battery, medical negligence, and emotional distress claims related to Maya alone. Supporters of the decision say it reinforces the importance of protecting mandatory reporters from retaliation. Critics argue it shields institutions from accountability and erases justice for a grieving family. In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, we explore the facts, the law, and the human cost of this reversal. In this episode, we explore the gift of tears and the importance of allowing ourselves to cry. We reflect on our experiences with crying and talk about how tears, especially in painful moments, can be a powerful expression of surrender, lament, and hope when offered to God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, our sensitivity and capacity to cry reflect the way we were beautifully created to respond to what breaks God's heart. We discuss the vulnerability of crying, the pain of resisting it, and how Jesus crying out on the cross reveals the value of our own cries. Whether you're too tired to cry, afraid to show need, or already feel safe expressing emotion, we invite you to see crying as an act of worship and intercession. In our sorrow, God meets us with love, truth, and the hope that He can actually do something with our pain.   Heather's One Thing - Spirit Breathe by Sarah Kroger and Echo Harbor Worship Sister Miriam's One Thing - Beloved Son by Carrie Daunt Michelle's One Thing - Her new back porch!   Other Resources Mentioned:  Pope Leo XIV's General Audience of September 10, 2025 The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer   Journal Questions: When was the last time I cried? The Gospel confers an immense value to our cry, reminding us that it can be an invocation, a protest, a desire, a surrender. It can even be the extreme form of prayer, when there are no words left. We're rereleasing an episode from our original coverage of the Kowalski case that was published on 11/7/2023. *** With a verdict in the case days away, host Andrea Dunlop unpacks some of what's happened so far in the Kowalski v Johns Hopkins All Childrens trial with lawyer and trial consultant Jonathan Leach. They analyze the dueling opening statements, consider what each side is likely to look for in jurors, and which of the charges—if any—might be most viable.   Andrea shares insights on the lawyers after watching their interactions in court. She also weighs in on the extensive medical testimony so far, including a major revelation about the origins of Maya's controversial CRPS diagnosis. We also share a chilling account of Maya's ketamine coma that was shared in court via missives written by Beata herself.   As both sides begin their closing arguments Andrea weighs the merits of what each side has told the jury and considers what the ramifications of the imminent verdict might be.  *** To support the show, subscribe on Apple Podcasts or go to Patreon.com/NobodyShouldBelieveMe where you can listen to exclusive bonus content and access all episodes early and ad-free, including weekly recaps of the Kowalski trial.   Follow host Andrea Dunlop on Instagram for behind-the-scenes photos: @andreadunlop  Buy Andrea's books here.  For more information and resources on Munchausen by Proxy, please visit MunchausenSupport.com  Download the APSAC's practice guidelines here.  ***  Click here to view our sponsors.
