Disney Parks Year in Review 2020, Yes it's finally over. 2020 was a challenge for all of us when it comes to Disney Destinations and we are looking forward to 2021. Each year we do a year in review show for Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line.  This year it's interesting looking at the time line of events with Covid 19 impacting so many things around the world.  Even as we record this Mouse Chat podcast Disneyland in California is still closed with no opening date as we wait on the state of California to allow businesses to re-open.2021 is looking better now that a vaccine is being released and Walt Disney World and Orlando in general is slowly increasing crowd limits. The Disney Dining Plan can be a great deal for your Walt Disney World Vacation, but there are improvements we think that could be made. The Disney Dining Plan is a great value, if you purchase it for the right ages. The Dining Plan is a bargain for kids 3-9, at age 10 Disney World considers them adults and they will pay the adult Disney Dining Plan price. It's frustrating having a ten year old paying the adult prices for meals when they only eat a roll at dinner. We would love to see more healthy options on the Walt Disney World Dining Plan. Tips for quick trips to Walt Disney World We often take last minute, quick trips to Walt Disney World. For most of us we can drive or get a cheap flight. This makes for a nice 2-3 day weekend or holiday getaway. How to get to Walt Disney World If you are booking a Walt Disney World vacation last minute one of the larger costs is going to be transportation. If you can drive you might want to look into that as an option. You can also book a flight last minute on Price Line and bid on a flight. One tip is to take advantage of low season. If you don't have kids, or your kids are out of school during an off peak time, you might be able to find a last minute flight deal. Remember Disney Magical Express is free transportation from MCO and if you don't fly into MCO you can usually get a rental car for $30-$45 a day. Best Walt Disney World Hotel If you are going to Walt Disney World last minute, your Disney World resort options can be limited. You can usually find Disney hotels at Disney's Saratoga Springs or at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Old Key West sometimes has availability too. For Disney World Value Resorts All-Star Music and Disney All-Star Sports might have available rooms for last minute Disney World trips. If you can't find a room for a last minute Disney World vacation, try changing your dates by a day. Adding or removing a day might open up a Disney World hotel room for you. Last Minute Disney FastPasses Your top rides are probably all gone like Pandora, but don't lose hope. A lot of your Disney World Fastpasses for mid-level Disney attractions you probably can still reserve two weeks out. So try for Mission Space, Space Ship Earth, Living with the Seas, Big Thunder Mountain, etc. To prebook your Disney fastpasses you need to already have your Disney tickets / Disney World Vacation Package. You don't want to show up at Walt Disney World and buy park tickets the say of your vacation. How to book last minute Disney World Dining You can book Disney World Dining 180 days before your vacation begins, but on a last minute trip to Disney World you might still be in luck for some of Disney World best restaurants. Sure some of the popular character dining locations will be booked up, but Walt Disney World has signature restaurants that are amazing at the parks and resorts. A week out and day of, you will start to see people cancelling dinner reservations. Day of we have gotten some great dining reservations. All-Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica - Which one to choose We spent 7 full days in Jamaica so we could stay, play, and dines at all of the Sandals and Beaches Resorts. If you are planning a wedding, honeymoon, on all-inclusive vacation we just toured them in Jamaica and are happy to help. In fact we have a full Sandals, Beaches, Rui, and Couples and Azul resort reviews. Sandals Resorts I want to first start with Sandals Resorts (couples). These resorts are for parties of two, no kids. If you have not been to an all-inclusive resort here is what comes with it. I like Sandals Resorts because the service and resorts are fantastic. I know what I am going to get and the resorts are consistent across all properties and islands. Some all-inclusive resorts are just spring break hang out with watered down free drinks, not Sandals. Sandals Resorts set the bar in my opinion for all-inclusive resorts. I'll speak to Sandals resorts mostly in this post as it has the most inclusions. All water sports except motorized water sports are included. If you want to sail, paddle board, go on the glass bottom boat, go snorkeling, take a tub ride, it's included. Drinks are included and they have top shelf liqror. wine, beer, specialty drinks, you are set. Tips - included. If you have a butler I would tip them, but all other tips are included. There is even scuba diving. Want to have free golf lessons for your kids? It's included at some Sandals properties. I literally bring some money to tip the drives and then my wallet goes in the safe and I don't touch it until I head home. All-Inclusive at Sandals and Beaches Resorts IS All-Inclusive. I like this because it helps me budget my vacations and I can eat, drink and do what I want. There are loads of Sandals Resorts in the Caribbean and we have been to most of them. There are three Beaches resorts and we have been to two of the three as of this post and will be at the third one later this year. For Sandals Jamaica I am putting together a quick bullet-ed list for you. This is what I recommend each Sandals Resort for. Please listen to the Sandals Podcast. On the podcast we cover each resort in detail. So load up the podcast on your mobile device and on the way to work or while exercising listen to our full Sandals and Beaches Resort show. Sandals Montego Bay - Fantastic for a quick get away as it's 5 minutes from the airport. Escape Winter and jump off your flight and be on the beach moments later. Sandals Royal Pacific - Looking for the romance of a private island or a bungalow over the water? Royal Caribbean has this and so much more. Sandals Inn - Want that all-inclusive vacation but on a lower price point. Sandals Inn has what you are looking for and you get a free shuttle to two other Sandals Resorts so you can play at all 3. Sandals Negril - Amazing honeymoon sunsets on the famous 7 mile beach. Sandals South Coast - Away from it all with the most private beach and surrounded by mountains. Beaches Resorts If you are looking for a family all-inclusive resort then I would recommend Beaches Resorts. The two Beaches resorts in Jamaica are very nice. If you are looking for a Beaches Resort at a value price point and also close to all the attractions like Dun River Falls, the Dolphin Encounter, etc. then Beaches Ochi Rios in Jamaica is a perfect fit. If you want the famous 7 mile beach then Beaches Negril is what I would recommend. Also Beaches Negril is 5 minutes away from Sandals Negril so this is nice for a wedding. Our Adventure on Adventures by Disney We did it! We took an Adventures by Disney trip and yes it was Awesome. We decided to do something unique and different so we booked the Danube Adventures by Disney river Cruise. Here is our journey. We have always wanted to take an Adventures by Disney (ABD) trip someplace unique. The Adventures by Disney Danube River Cruise looked interesting and appealed to us. First this ABD is different from the others as you unpack once and your room travels with you. Being on AmaWaterways AmaViola allowed us to unpack and spend our time seeing Europe instead of moving from hotel to hotel every day or so. This type of Adventures by Disney was appealing to us. Also with two kids we know food can be difficult at times. We have been to Paris before and spent over $100 on lunch only to have the kids not eat it and later complain that they are hungry. This can get frustrating and costly. With the AmaWaterways river cruise as an ABD the kids could get anything they wanted. Breakfast had loads of options, lunch was always fantastic and dinner the kids could eat at their own buffet if they wanted. This also brings be to another reason we booked an Adventures by Disney. We knew there would be families on the vacation. It would not be just Lisa and I in a car or on the metro with our kids, trying to figure out how two get from place to place. Everything was taken care of with Adventures by Disney and not only that, our kids were entertained and not sitting in the back of a rental car bugging us to find out how much longer. Our kids were with the Disney Adventure Guides, playing games, or hanging out with their new friends as we were on a bus ride to a castle, or farm. The kids had a blast and so did we. That's something that made this trip so wonderful. Is an Adventures by Disney worth the price? We get the question often. Is any vacation worth the price? I think it's about the value. Sure you can backpack across Europe and stay in youth hostels and sleep on the train. There are loads of ways to vacation and they all have advantage and disadvantages. An Adventures by Disney vacation is not priced the same as touring Europe on your own. But it's about the value and Adventures by Disney offers a great deal of value for what you pay. There is a Mac / TV in your room with free WIFI, a Mini Fridge with waters, USB ports by the bed to charge your and cellphones and USB devices. The closet has two full sized umbrellas if needed, a safe, and lots of storage. Even the bathroom on AmaWaterways is large for a river cruise bathroom. The shower is a nice size with modern tile and shower head options. We also had an indoor and outdoor balcony. There are full size windows floor to ceiling, that you can view the river from, or slide the balcony door to sit outside and enjoy the view. Is a Royal Caribbean Cruise worth it? We love Disney Cruise Line, but that does not mean we don't sail on Royal Caribbean and the other cruise lines to keep up with the compition.   Here is what's coming to Disney World 2017 was a great year for theme park and Disney fans. Disney announced a load of new rides, attractions, hotels, and more at their D23 conference. Here is the short list of what's coming to Disney Theme Parks in 2017 and in the future. WOW! D23 released so many new attractions and updates for the Disney parks. Let's Star with Star Wars Land opening in 2019. Star Wars land will open at Disneyland in California first and then at Walt Disney World. There are still rumors of a Star Wars hotel that would be a set experience. Disney showcases a massive model of Star Wars land and it looks like a truly immersive experience. This will be a fantastic addition to Disney Hollywood Studios. Disney Hollywood Studios - The Chinese Theater at Disney Hollywood Studios closed August 13, 2017 but it's being replaced with a Mickey and Minnie themed family attraction (Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway). This is a great change and will be a welcome addition of a ride the entire family can ride at DHS. I do wonder if you should skip DHS with so much closed and head over to Disney's Animal Kingdom instead and enjoy Pandora and Rivers of Light. Disney Hollywood Studios - Toy Story Land is set to open in 2018. That's less than a year away. This new land at DHS is perfect for the little ones. We have played at Toy Story land at Disneyland Paris and it's very popular. The wait times at DLP for Toy Story land are pretty long as these kiddie rides take a longer time to load and unload with little kids. The rides are more like re-themed amusement park rides that have been updated with a Toy Story theme at DLP. I think the Disney World version of this land will be a little more advanced and the rides a little more customized. With Star Wars land, Toy Story land, the new Mickey and Minnie family attraction, and so much more happening at DHS, that park is going to be an entirely new theme park when it's all completed. EPCOT - There is even great news for EPCOT. Future World is getting some updates and these are big! Ellen's Energy Adventure is being turned into a new Guardian's of the Galaxy ride. The details have not been released but it is believed to be a roller coaster which would be a first for EPCOT. EPCOT - There is a new table service dinning restaurant coming to Future World. The new space themed restaurant looks impressive in concept art and as long as the video screens are kept up I bet the views out into space will be cool. EPCOT - Ratatouille is coming to EPCOT. This attraction is at Disneyland Paris and a very cute and fun family attraction. The ride is said to be a mirror image of the ride at Disneyland Paris but it will not end in a restaurant as EPCOT already has two table service dining locations in the Paris pavilion. EPCOT is going to be a great park for kids and families with these new additions. Also China will be getting a new updated 360 movie. There was a rumor that a new country would be coming to EPCOT but nothing was announced. If you have not ridden Mission Space at EPCOT, it will be getting an update to both the green and orange ride levels. This Mission Space update should make it more engaging. Magic Kingdom - TRON! Tron is coming to tomorrow land at the Magic Kingdom. This ride is the most popular attraction at Singapore Disneyland. I was not a fan of the Tron movies, especially the second one, but the Tron Attraction looks amazing. This light cycle coaster is a family coaster and at night it looks super cool. It will be nice to see is Disney adds something extra to the ride when they bring it to Walt Disney World. I'd love to see Tron with some more thrills added to make it different in the US. Magic Kingdom - A new theater is coming to Main Street USA and it should also have an access from Main Street town square to Tomorrowland. The theater might hold up to 2,000 people. This would bring a live stage to the Magic Kingdom for shows like they have in NY and at Disneyland at the Hyperion theater. This will be ready for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. There is so much more with new transportation options coming to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line new ships, and other updates. Disney World Top Restaurants Reviewed We are back from Walt Disney World and had several groups traveling around the Disney restaurants at the parks and Disney resorts so we could bring you our showcase of top Disney World restaurants. First we dined at Cítricos at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Citricos Disney Grand Floridian Restaurant Review Service and overall Disney restaurant atmosphere It's been a while since we have sent a group to dine at Citricos at Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort and we have always loved this Disney restaurant. The service was spectacular and we have a nice table in this upscale Grand Floridian restaurant. Larry was our waiter and was wonderful and funny. The service at this Disney signature restraunt has always been fantastic. If you are looking for a Disney restaurant for maybe a Disney date night, or just a romantic meal for two without the kids, Citricos is one of our top picks. Everyone at dinner was dressed up and out for a nice evening meal. Being at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort we did think that more people were dressed up than at other Disney World restaurants, which was nice to see. Citricos food review Everyone enjoyed their appetizers and salads. Please listen to our Mouse Chat podcast for our full review of the meals. Our Top Dining Pick for Citricos is the Scallop Risotto This has Butternut Squash, Black Truffles, Butternut Squash Purée. We also really enjoyed the Tuna. This is Oak-grilled Yellowfin Tuna and it comes with Fingerling Potatoes, Fennel, Haricot Verts, Artichokes, Olive Tapenade. For dessert we had the Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte with Vanilla Ice Cream and Handcrafted Belgian Couverture Chocolate Crown, which was nice but we liked the Tasting of Gelato featuring Italian Vanilla Bean, Mocha Espresso, and Double Chocolate better. Hidden Gem at Disney's Grand Floridian for Dining, the Grand Floridan Cafe We really enjoy the Grand Floridian Cafe and actually ate there many times over a few week period. We all had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe and all three are wonderful. What we like about the Grand Floridian Cafe is that it's a hidden Disney gem. The service is always spectacular, it's at Disney's Grand Floridan Resort which is a joy to visit, and the prices are very reasonable for a Disney restaurant. Also there is usually no wait or it is easy to book a dining reservation here. All that adds up to one of our favorite Disney restaurants. The Garden View Tea Room at Disney's Grand Floridian Lauren went with a friend to the Garden View Tea Room at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. You get to pick the type of tea, cordials, dessert and cheese. It's a fun different and unique experience. Tiffin's at Disney's Animal Kingdom we ate here four times, yes four! Tiffin's is a newer Disney World restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom and it's not theme park food. This upscale addition to Animal Kingdom is unique and offers fun dishes like the appetizer we had, the lobster popcorn Thai curry soup. The soup is the Lobster-Popcorn Thai Curry Soup - Lime-Basil Emulsion, Popped Sorghum. We also loved the Selection of Artisanal Cheeses at Tiffins - Cardamom Marcona Almonds, Manjar Blanco, Cape Gooseberry. We also tried the salad - Apple-Walnut Salad - Bib Lettuce, Heirloom Apples, Candied Walnuts, Apple Cider Vinaigrette. Octopus is not usually our favorite thing but we loved that appetizer also. Pandora, the World of Avatar, Rivers of Light and Tiffins all make Animal Kingdom a must do Disney World park on your next Disney World Vacation. There are a bunch of new lounges now at Walt Disney World in the Disney Parks and also in the Disney World Resorts. If you are traveling to Walt Disney World as a group, a Disney convention, or maybe you just want a Disney World date night. These are our favorite lounges at Walt Disney World.   These are the Disney World Lounges we Love! Our First Disney Lounge in no specific order is... The Nomad Lounge at Tiffin's in Disney's Animal Kingdom - This lounge is close to Pandora at Disney's Animal Kingdom and we rate this as the best lounge on Disney Property. The indoor lounge is beautiful and has great food selections and drink selections of course. There is also a wonderful outdoor seating area that wraps around the building and is private and overlooks the river. At night you can hear the sounds from Pandora from here. The lounge staff is helpful and laid back. You can get a table and talk, relax, and enjoy yourself.   Our next Disney World Lounge is Tutto Gusto Wine cellar at EPCOT's Italy pavilion. This Disney World Lounge is in an Italian wine cellar and it's dark, quite and hidden. We walked in from a Summer day in Epcot and the lounge is cool and refreshing. Your staff is from Italy and will offer you wine and cheese selections to choose from. If you want a tucked away place to relax and get away from the heat or rain from your walk around World Showcase, Tutto Gusto is your lounge. There is a wine flight with 2 oz pours that lets you try several different wines. Also we enjoy the meat and cheese platters and have some favorite cheeses that we cover on our Disney podcast.
