We recap an incredibly food-focused weekend at Walt Disney World, where we made our way through Disney Springs, EPCOT, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Port Orleans Riverside, and several resort dining locations in search of some of the newest and most talked-about menu items. We share our thoughts on everything from Italian favorites at Terralina Crafted Italian and massive cookies from Gideon's Bakehouse to specialty pizzas at Pizza Ponte, unique ice cream flavors at Salt & Straw, and the limited-time Pepperoni Pizza Burger from D-Luxe Burger. Along the way, we also sample Fourth of July-themed treats, Annual Passholder-exclusive Joffrey's beverages, and several seasonal desserts that are perfect for summer. The food tour continues with stops at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT, Satu'li Canteen and Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom, Scat Cat's Club at Port Orleans Riverside, Hurricane Hanna's at Disney's Beach Club Resort, and more. We break down what was worth the money, what surprised us most, and which items we'd happily order again. To wrap things up, we hand out our Foodie Superlatives, including things like Best Overall Item, Best Sweet Treat, Best Savory Item, and the one item we'd skip next time. Whether you're planning your next Disney vacation or just looking for your next must-try snack, this episode is packed with plenty of Disney food recommendations and honest reviews.
Len Testa and Jim Hill return with a caffeinated mix of Disney news, listener questions, and one deeply researched (and slightly petty) rant about guitar accuracy. They also explore the mystery of Walt's unfinished apartment bathroom and debate just how early is too early for Halloween. Then Jim brings the main event: the story of how Maxwell House coffee landed on Main Street, missed its big debut, and ultimately got shown the door - paving the way for a quieter, smarter coffee strategy at Disneyland. NEWS Preview dates announced for Soarin' and Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster starring the Muppets, with guests likely riding by mid-May Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run may finally make the engineer role matter (yes, really) Bluey's Animal Kingdom appearance may skip meet-and-greets entirely, possibly to avoid crowd-control chaos Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party now starts August 7, because apparently summer needed pumpkins EPCOT Food & Wine Festival returns in late August, continuing Disney's “why wait for fall?” strategy FEATURE The original deal that brought Maxwell House Coffee to Disneyland - complete with big promises and bigger expectations Why the Main Street coffee house wasn't ready for opening day (and stayed that way for months) The rain-soaked grand opening that didn't help Disney's relationship with its coffee sponsor How Hills Brothers stepped in, kept the New Orleans theming, and quietly made the concept work The evolution of the location from sponsored coffee house to struggling restaurant to retail space For this episode's full show notes, click here. This special Thursday edition of our weekly live show covered a lot of ground. Sam joined us from the road just after the premiere Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite event at Disneyland. That meant new popcorn buckets, sippers, event details, and a firsthand look at what the night actually felt like in the park. But the show did not stay in one lane. Holly returned with a quick Hallmark update. We got new dates for the 2026 EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which starts earlier than ever on August 7. Greg also got a firsthand look at the construction progress at Disney Lakeshore Lodge. And Sam had more Disneyland to cover beyond Star Wars. That included Bluey's Best Day Ever, the return of Paint the Night, Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival just wrapping up, and a look inside the updated timeline at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Sam Reports Back from Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite The biggest headline of the night was Sam joining from the road fresh off Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite. Disney describes these after-hours events as running from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Disneyland park, with themed entertainment, specialty menu items, character experiences, shorter attraction wait times, unlimited digital PhotoPass downloads, and commemorative keepsakes. The April 28 event also landed right at the front edge of Disneyland's larger Star Wars season. That made this more than just another party-night recap. Star Wars Nite was also one of the first chances for guests to see how Disneyland was expanding the story at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. That is a meaningful detail for fans who care about continuity in Galaxy's Edge. For years, the land sat in a very specific point on the Star Wars timeline. This new approach gives Disneyland more room to bring in different characters and stories, which makes the land feel more flexible going forward. The Popcorn Buckets and Sippers Were Part of the Story Too Of course, it would not be Star Wars season at Disneyland without new novelty items. Disney Parks Blog previewed fresh Star Wars popcorn buckets, sippers, and other collectibles tied to the May the 4th celebration window, with select items also available during Disneyland After Dark: Star Wars Nite. The April 28 and April 30 event nights also gave guests early access to shop some items from the May the 4th Logo Collection. [caption id="attachment_81547" align="aligncenter" width="1920"] Disney's May the 4th Foodie Guide 2026 puts the spotlight on new Star Wars novelties, drinks, and limited-time treats.[/caption] That is part of what made Sam's report from the event especially useful. These limited releases are no longer side details. They are part of how fans plan these nights, and often part of what gets remembered most. We Have Dates for EPCOT Food and Wine Festival 2026 Back on the Walt Disney World side, Disney officially announced that the 2026 EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival runs from August 27 through November 21, 2026. That gives fans another long runway of booths, bites, drinks, and festival energy at EPCOT as the year starts to shift toward fall. This is always one of those planning stories that gets people moving fast. Once the dates are out, the conversation changes from waiting to planning. Vacation timing, festival strategy, and what Disney might reveal next all suddenly start to matter. Mickey's Not-So-Scary Starts Earlier Than Ever We also now have dates for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and yes, it starts earlier than many fans expected. The 2026 party season runs from August 7 through October 31. That August 7 start puts Halloween planning in motion very early, even by Disney standards. That early start is one of the biggest practical takeaways from the whole week. If you are planning a late-summer trip, the line between summer and Halloween at Walt Disney World keeps getting thinner. Greg Gets a Firsthand Look at Disney Lakeshore Lodge Greg also checked out the construction progress at Disney Lakeshore Lodge, which Disney introduced on April 21 as a new waterfront retreat where guests and their loved ones will discover the wonder of nature through Disney storytelling. The project is one of the more interesting resort stories at Walt Disney World right now because it is being framed around atmosphere and setting as much as new-room inventory. Holly Checks In with Hallmark Happenings Holly was back as well with a quick Hallmark Happenings segment. That has become a nice recurring part of the show because it adds another lane for Disney collectors and nostalgia fans. The Hallmark 2026 Dream Book is now live digitally, and it includes new Disney Parks ornaments, including entries tied to attraction and park memories. That kind of update may not sound like a headline next to Star Wars Nite or Mickey's Not-So-Scary dates, but it fits the audience well. Disney fandom has always lived in the details, and Hallmark is one of those spaces where that detail-driven nostalgia shows up every year. Sam's Disneyland Report Went Beyond Star Wars What made this episode especially strong was that Sam's Disneyland report did not stop with Star Wars. He also looked at Bluey's Best Day Ever, which debuted at Disneyland park on March 22, 2026. Disney Parks Blog says the Fantasyland Theatre has been reimagined as Bluey's school, with Bluey and Bingo appearing in rotating show moments throughout the day, along with themed food and merchandise. [caption id="attachment_80752" align="aligncenter" width="1219"] Bluey and Bingo bring Bluey's Best Day Ever to Disneyland March 22 with shows, games, themed food, and new merch.[/caption] That matters because Bluey is not just another character meet and greet. It is one of the clearest examples of Disney leaning into what younger families are excited about right now, and doing it in a way that feels like a full offering instead of a quick overlay. Paint the Night Is Still a Draw at Disneyland Sam also covered Paint the Night, which remains one of the biggest reasons fans want to be in Disneyland after dark. Disney has said the fan-favorite parade is part of the Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary entertainment lineup and that the 70th celebration continues through August 9, 2026. That gives the parade extra weight this summer. It is not just back. It is part of a limited anniversary window, which makes it feel more urgent for fans trying to fit Disneyland into their 2026 plans. Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Was Wrapping Up Sam also touched on Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival just as it was wrapping up. That gave the show another useful Disneyland Resort perspective, because it let the conversation stretch beyond one single event night and into the broader seasonal experience across the resort. That is part of what made this special edition feel fuller than a simple Star Wars recap. It covered how much was happening across Disneyland at once, from Star Wars to Bluey to nighttime entertainment to the final stretch of the spring food festival. Watch the full live show below.
Happy New Year from Disneyland and Walt Disney World The new year started on both coasts. Sam rang in New Year's Eve at Disneyland, while Greg spent the holidays at Walt Disney World. As a result, this week's show covered a wide range of park experiences and major Disney World updates. At Disneyland, the 70th Anniversary Celebration set the tone for the trip. The resort felt familiar, yet noticeably different, especially when compared to Walt Disney World. The Rivers of America area now stands out even more, given its recent closure back east. Breaking Disney News and Streaming Updates Disney opened the year with several major announcements. Most notably, Disney officially announced a live-action Tangled film, instantly becoming one of the most talked-about stories of the week. Meanwhile, new content continues to arrive on Disney+. Avengers: Doomsday trailers keep dropping, fueling speculation. At the same time, TRON Ares is now streaming, expanding the TRON story beyond the parks. Looking ahead, Disneyland Handcrafted arrives on Disney+ on January 22, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the artistry that shaped the original park. Festival of the Arts and a Disney Legend Returns Disney Parks released the Foodie Guide for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, and anticipation is already building. The festival begins soon, and food, art, and performance once again take center stage. Adding to the excitement, Tony Baxter will appear at the festival. His presence connects EPCOT's creative future with its rich history, making this year's event especially meaningful for longtime fans. Cool Kid Summer Returns to Disney World One of the biggest Disney World updates for 2026 is the return of Cool Kid Summer. This year's lineup blends nostalgia with new energy across multiple parks. Highlights include: GoofyCore Hall, bringing bold visuals and playful vibes Muppets Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, continuing the Muppets takeover Bluey experiences expanding family-friendly offerings Soarin' Across America, returning as part of the Celebrate America celebration Updates coming to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin A new look at Jessie's Roundup at the Diamond Horseshoe Together, these additions position summer 2026 as one of the most character-driven seasons Disney World has seen in years. Classic Disney Returns and Farewells Begin Disney also confirmed that Must Do Disney is back, once again featuring Stacie. For many fans, this marks a welcome return to a familiar planning tradition. [caption id="attachment_8643" align="aligncenter" width="1075"] Must Do Disney October 2009 with MNSSHP and Epcot Food and Wine Festival[/caption] At Magic Kingdom, the painting of Cinderella Castle has begun, signaling routine upkeep ahead of busy seasons. However, not all news brought celebration. Every Muppet reference has been removed from Muppet Courtyard, officially closing the door on that era. Additionally, Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom closes permanently on February 1, making now the final window to experience the attraction. Elsewhere, Sprinkles unexpectedly closed all locations, surprising many Disney Springs regulars. Muppets 70: The Magnet Mystery Solved The Muppets' 70th Anniversary magnet set is finally complete. During the show, Sam and Greg reviewed the full collection and revealed who made the cut. Then came the surprises. Several Muppets were left off the list, which sparked a deeper look at the new Muppet Show trailer. By matching the magnets to the opening sequence, the missing characters became clear. And yes, Greg really did buy a new refrigerator just to fit all 70 magnets. Join Us Live Every Wednesday From Disneyland trips to major Disney World updates, the new year is already moving fast. DONATE TO THE ZESTIt's the most delicious time of year at the Most Magical Place on Earth. We're talking about the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. The annual event takes place through Nov. 23 at EPCOT's World Showcase. That's the area of the theme park whose architecture replicates a bunch of different countries. One minute you're taking a selfie in front of a replica Eiffel Tower; next thing you know, you're climbing the steps of an Aztec temple in fake Mexico. Throughout the year, each “country” in EPCOT highlights its cuisine. But during the Food & Wine Festival, things get even more elaborate, with special kiosks featuring bespoke food and drinks.Dalia recently attended the festival, as did her WUSF colleagues Leslie Laney and Mark Schreiner. In this bonus Zest episode, they'll share their experience and offer tips for eating and drinking your way around the world.Related episodes:EPCOT Culinary Director Albert Youngman Brings a World of Flavors to FloridaJournalist Judith Smelser on Zoom Wine Tastings, Disney Sommeliers and How to Find Your Next Favorite Bottle of Wine“Happiest Plate on Earth” Podcast Hosts Dish on Disney DiningAJ Wolfe of Disney Food Blog
