Black women, the fastest growing segment of business owners, are the least likely to receive investments from venture capitalists. They account for less than 1 percent of the $424.7 billion raised in tech V.C. funding since 2009, according to the 2018 Project Diane study conducted by DigitalUndivided, an organization that empowers women entrepreneurs of color. To address these disparities, and to provide a one-stop-shop for people looking to buy from Black women, my guest Nikki Porcher founded Buy From A Black Woman, a 501(c)3 that is committed to building the largest community of Black Women Business Owners across the country and around the globe. Through educational programs, an online directory, and financial support and meaningful partnerships, Buy From A Black Woman continues to grow as a trusted resource that helps Black Women in business.  Nikki is a Black Woman Advocate, Business Consultant, DEI Trainer & Speaker. In this episode, I have a conversation with Nikki Porcher, Founder of Buy From a Black Woman. I love Nikki's story because I relate. She's worked in many jobs, including at a nonprofit. She got bored, and she got fired. (Me too!) Nikki's boredom led her to running half marathons. That led her to missing a flight. That led her to a curiosity which turned into a passion, which turned into a blog, and that became a directory of black woman-owned businesses.  And now, Nikki is looking forward to setting up Buy From A Black Woman as a Community Development Financial Institution. (If you don't know what that is, listen to the episode. It's a big deal.) This is a story of transformation --and not only of one person--  but of a whole community and ultimately, it's a story about the transformation of an entire culture.  When Nikki started Buy From a Black Woman five years ago, most people weren't paying attention to how they can support black businesses.  She told me that black women were actually not even putting their faces on their websites because they didn't want to deter customers.  Black women business owners were hiding.  That's changing.  And because Nikki was prepared to grow and achieve her dreams beyond her dreams--available and ready at the right time--she grew.  Buy From a Black Woman is catching the attention of a broader community of consumers and supporters. In fact, Nikki just wrapped up a national tour sponsored by H&M.  Through her story, Nikki reminds us what can happen when you allow yourself to transform and stay open to what can unfold as you dream bigger and believe everything is working for your good.    Find Nikki and join the Buy From a Black Woman community at: Buy From a Black Woman: https://www.buyfromablackwoman.org  Shop the Directory of Businesses: https://www.buyfromablackwomandirectory.org    Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BuyfromaBlackWoman Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/buyfromablackwoman/  Twitter: https://twitter.com/BFABWInfo YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7ft9vktaXbtdhKknevTY5A    This show is sponsored by my company, Concurrent Productions. Real Chicks Rock!™ Presents: Real Discussions

This Talk Radio show aired Sunday, April 1st, 2018Topic: The Power of Small Business   The Power of Small Businesses was the topic as we’ve had some creative, self-motivated women entrepreneurs that are clear on how to stay successful in the marketplace. They both offer unique services and produces which keeps their customers coming back.   Nikki Porcher and Shannon Evans are two vibrant business owners who are making their way here in Atlanta.  Shannon owns an event space and restaurant and Nikki provides Black women an outlet to promote their own business and products. While other women look to buy from them. It’s collaborative economics at its best.   Their message to the masses is not to be discouraged about any obstacles, but to keep going. They want people to think out of the box, know and believe that it’s possible.  Write it down in a business plan and be comfortable in changing & updating it when needed.   For more about their stories, feel free to check the show out on the Real Chicks Rock!™ YouTube Channel. Remember...~ Not let your (negative) inner voice stop you~ Don’t be afraid to update your business plan if needed ~ Reach, Stretch, Grow,  and Just Do It!   Until next time, continue to...#ROCKon #RealChicksRock#RCR #RealDiscussions #StatusNetwork #LyveTV #BuyFromABlackWoman #NikkiPorcher #StudioNo7 #ShannonEvans     Join us every 1st and 3rd Sunday, as we get together to discuss topics and issues that impact US.   Listen or view us LIVE: 2 pm - 4 pm EST on www.StatusNetwork.net   Call into the show (470) 251-4343 Join in on the conversation - We love to hear what's on your heart and mind!   Thank you for taking the time to listen to this podcast.   For further details on the campaign, please visit our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/RealChicksRock1   Stay Connected!   Subscribe to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/realchicksrock Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/RealChicksRock1 Twitter - https://twitter.com/RealChicksRock1 Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/realchicksrock Pinterest - https://www.pinterest.com/rcr012/ Website: www.RealChicksRock.com Radio Station: www.StatusNetwork.net
