In this episode of the pawdcast, Karen and Jean chat with Chris Gabriel, owner of Nature's Nibbles, about what constitutes healthy dog food and what we as owners should be providing our dogs. When you think about it, as owners, we have to make so many decisions for our dogs and their health. Too often, too little thought goes into what we feed them, unless an issue develops. Chris and his wife Anne started Nature’s Nibbles, a natural pet food store, over a decade ago as a result their dog’s multiple allergies and afflictions. It was through trial, error, and a ton of research that they determined her allergies were a result of highly processed dog food. The knowledge they gained through that experience has led to a successful small business and an impassioned campaign to educate dog owners on heathy food choices -- including kibble!Note: Chris’s comments are his own and reflect his opinion and research. (00:38:25) Life - The guys jump in to a Coronavirus update while discussing the ReopenNC protests and the argument that stay-at-home orders were a violation of Freedom of Religion, Andre takes issue with the weaponization of faith and says he can understand why some people “hate Christians”, the guys talk about the hypocrisy often displayed by “religious” politicians, Andre points out that, like so many things, you can't group all Christians together. Andre talks about the struggles of balancing confidence and arrogance, the guys talk about changing your personality to fit in at a workplace, Andre points out that white people are uncomfortable talking about other cultures, Chris brings up the whitewashing of history, Andre talks about finding a way to do life with people and shares a glimpse into what he has experienced as recently as last year. Chris is remodeling a bonus room that was previously converted from a carport, while Andre is planning what to do after his youngest moves out. (01:17:13) Technology - Andre has been busy building the podcast's new website (https://chrisandandreshow.com) while Chris has been dragging his feet to get his Git environment setup… Andre talks about how much he hates Docker, Chris admits he's lazy and that's why podcast episodes are so far behind. Andre loves Plex but is not a fan of their new podcast app, Chris talks about his podcast consumption habits, Andre rates the guys on the Tech Savvy scale, Chris still hates Amazon tablets, the guys both love Roku and share their distaste for the Apple TVs of old as well as modern-day Smart TVs. The founder of The Methodist Reclamation Project Rev. Chris Tiedeman is Rev. Dr. Brad Miller’s guest on Episode 019 of the United Methodist People Podcast.   The Methodist Reclamation Project is a facebook group presence founded to respond to the decision of the 2019 General Conference to advocate a progressive/centrist viewpoint on the matters facing the UMC.   Chris is the pastor or Christ UMC-Wabash, Indiana.    In this in-depth interview, Chris tells Brad about coming to the church when he was dating the daughter of a UMC pastor while they both were in a high school drama production of “The Beverly Hillbillies.”  He described how the openness of the UMC spoke to him and nurtured his faith eventually leading him into pastoral ministry.  He is known among other things as the “Ukulele Pastor” for playing and singing with his “Uke” in the community.   He and some colleagues created the Methodist Reclamation Project to speak to effect change to save what can be of the United Methodist Movement.  He looks to affect the best future of the UMC moving forward.   He spoke to Brad about his role as a “Grandpa Millennial” and his concerns about how the UMC has struggled to meet the needs of millennial and how passionate he is about this.  This includes his willingness to work through with others what Methodism will become in the aftermath of the 2019 General Conference decision to implement the Traditional Plan.   Chris spoke from the heart to Brad about the “gutted” feeling he had about the pain many people associated with the LGBTQ community are experiencing now and how his compelled to take action in response to that.  This action included stepping up as a candidate for the General and Jurisdictional Conference.  (Note: Chris was elected as a delegate to the North Central Jurisdictional Conference by the Indiana Annual Conference)   Chris describes his present attitude about the church as “fraught but hopeful” which he describes as being encouraged by the movement of centrist/progressive UMC people in an anxious time and a defining moment in the church.   His desire, he tells Brad, is to focus on Jesus and move beyond any distraction to this focus.  He describes himself as a “Jesus Person” teaching others in the UMC that the need to be Jesus to others an outpost of the Gospel.   You will want to listen and learn from Chris Tiedeman the founder of The Methodist Reclamation Project on Episode 019 of the United Methodist People Podcast with Rev. After building a lot of frequent flyer miles from his business-related travel, Chris McGinnis applied his skills as a consultant to teach his coworkers about maximizing their experience. When he realized this was something he could do full time, he jumped at the opportunity. He wrote for local news outlets before picking up a regular gig with CNN, which cemented his expertise as a business travel expert. Today, he is one of the leading authorities on business travel as the director the Travel Skills group, and the host of the Travel Skillz chat on Twitter. He’s an expert in business travel, having been featured inn CNN, BBC, the Wall Street Journal and many more. On this episode, we discuss how Chris stays relevant in today's changing landscape, the future of frequent flyer mile programs, how business travelers can get the most out of their work travel opportunities. Note: Chris mentions that he expects United Airlines to follow Delta in their revenue based model -- in which you earn miles for how much you spend rather than how far you fly. Just this month, United did exactly that. So pay attention to what Chris has to say because clearly he knows his stuff. On this episode, we discuss... How Chris stays relevant in today's changing landscape, The future of frequent flyer mile programs, How business travelers can get the most out of their work travel opportunities Revenue based earning: what is it, and why it's overdue and likely to be the future of frequent flyer miles - and how that effects travel hackers Words from an Explorer "Use the travel that's been given to you by your company as a stepping stone for your own travel." Chris' Best Travel Advice: The First Step: Allow yourself the room to explore. Don't overplan. Also, pickup a few phrases, or learn a few things (customs or facts), it goes a long way with the people in the places you go. Even if you're terrible, demonstrating the effort can endear you to the locals you meet. Let the people you meet guide your travels. Money Saving Tip: Travel during the quietest times of the year. For example, in early April (this year), there's a window between Spring Break and Easter. Traveling in May rather than the summer months can save hundreds, if not thousands, on airfare alone. Right before Thanksgiving is a great time to find deals. The first 2-3 weeks of December and January are the cheapest times to travel with last minute deals popping up everywhere. Packing: Don't stress over packing because you can always buy something wherever you go. Having to buy something gives you an excuse to explore the shops of your destination. Favorite Internet Travel Resource: There's no single best website for finding deals. You have to do your homework. Favorite Travel Gear: Chris loves his rolling carry on, which he's learned how to live from.
