“Songs for Drella”, Lou Reed & John Cale's marvelous 1990 posthumous tribute to Andy Warhol, offers an intensely personal view of Warhol with songs and playing that rank among the finest in either man's career. Their first collaboration since The Velvet Underground, nearly 20 years earlier, led to both artists vowing never to work with the other again. Our album today, suggested by listener Nick Farmer, is “El-Rayo-X" (1981) by multi-instrumentalist David Lindley. We hadn't come across this album before, and we both agree it's a lot of fun - mainly reggae-influenced beat, but clearly Californian.   Lindley sounds familiar, probably because of his presence on albums by so many others we love – Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt to name but a few. In the segment, Lunacy, Legends and Lies we look at how Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi only stopped setting drummer Bill Ward on fire after Bill's mum called Tony a "barmy bastard" who should "grow up", and recount how, in 1989, Slash ran naked and bleeding through a resort hotel after a hallucination.  This episode has lots of stuff you may not have known before, and isn't that the fun of it? References:  The Factory, Banksy, Bowie, “Andy Warhol”, “15 minutes of fame”, Metallica, Master of Puppets, Stone Temple Pilots, MTV Unplugged, Valerie Solanis, Nico, “Waiting for the Man”, White Light/White Heat, “Words for the Dying“, Dylan Thomas, “New York”, The Church of St. Anne's Brooklyn, “Berlin”, Czechoslovakia, viola, “Fragments of a Rainy Season”, “Hallelujah”  Our email: MickandthePhatman@Gmail.com  Songs for Drella – Album El-Rayo-x – David Lindley Werewolves of London - David Lindley; Late Night with Jules Holland Song for Drella – The Movie Fragments of a Rainy Season – John Cale Nobody Like You VideoInterview Part 2

Art Alexakis of Everclear joins me for a special episode of Car Con Carne.   Everclear returns to the greater Chicago area for two shows at the end of January: Thursday, January 25:  Des Plaines Theatre Friday, January 26:  Arcada Theatre   I've interviewed Art a handful of times since my early Q101 days, dating back to the “Sparkle and Fade” era. What I've always appreciated about talking with Art is that he's candid, honest and authentically “him.”   Discussed in this episode: ”Sing Away” (from “Live at the Whisky A Go Go”) - addressing the topics of suicide and bullying, and the emotional response parents have. Why I think Art is an eternal optimist. Art's lyrics can be categorized in three distinct buckets. Everclear's first record deal in the 1990s. Everclear at the Double Door in 1994. Art's guitar room. The adorable bicycles Everclear rides while on the road. Do full-length albums matter anymore? The best way to support Everclear (and other bands). 2021 was a great year for us as it was the 1st time we won “Best Music Podcast” at the #BostonMusicAwards and seemingly opened up our audience to new supporters within our growing scene. That was also the year that birthed another #Boston music podcast that is gaining heavy traction, “Bad For The Community”! This group of young Black men consist of 4 very different creatives from Boston & Brockton; The 508 God (FKA Young Rob), Nate Nics, Tomo, & Snt Yves— who got together to form a music podcast tackling an assortment of topics ranging from their personal art to social issues. We've seen the work they've done for the past 2 years and after appearing on their podcast in late 2022, the time has come for us to collaborate again for a long overdue & transparent conversation. #CharlieMaSheen has once mentioned that BFTC is the top music podcast in the city for creatives under 30 years old while we cater mostly to the 30+ crowd and this exchange of words couldn't have displayed this any more accurately. While we share many similarities we have very different views on the world and society as a whole. The one thing we do stand on time and time again is GOOD MUSIC; whatever our perceptions of that may be. Join Charlie MaSheen & #KASH as we host Bad For The Community at The Garage Media Center over a talk about their origin, their different types of art, the music scene in Boston (& surrounding areas), confronting Charlie about his stance on the #transgender community, & SO MUCH MORE‼️ We shared a lot of laughs and we also seemed  agreed to disagree on a number of things but this podcast is not one to skip over AT ALL‼️ We also wrapped up w/ 4

SUMMARY    Aaron Della Vedova is hosting a special guest on his Chats and Tats podcast - Tanner Wayne, a musician and drummer. Aaron admires Tanner's skill and has always wanted to learn how to play drums himself. Aaron and Tanner discuss how Tanner came to be a professional drummer and the respect and admiration they have for the art form.    In this conversation, the speaker talks about becoming a professional drummer. He grew up in a musical family, with his dad playing the drums, bass, guitar and singing. At the age of 9, he jumped on the drum set and his dad said he had it. He is currently in three bands, the biggest of which being In Flames, and the other two being Hollows and Night Themes. He talks about how most professional musicians don't become successful by accident, and that growing up in a musical environment was a major factor in his own success.   The narrator recounts a moment in his life when his uncle, whom he looked up to, told him he was an artist after seeing a drawing he had done. This moment was significant for the narrator, as it was the first time someone had told him he was an artist. He also mentions how his father encouraged him to pursue music as a child, buying him a drum set and lessons which led him to where he is today.    Tanner recalled how his parents had been instrumental in helping him pursue his drumming career from a young age, even though he couldn't afford a drum set or lessons. He also shared his advice to parents of aspiring musicians, encouraging them to support their children and buy them quality instruments. Additionally, the speaker discussed how the local band Blink 182 had been an inspiration for him, living in the same area and being a successful band. Finally, he emphasized how support and inspiration are key for children wanting to pursue a career in music and how it can be difficult in rural areas.   What we chat about:   [0:00:40]  Guest intro    [0:02:27]  How I became a drummer   [0:03:16]  The biggest influences in Tanners Life   [0:06:35]   Battle of the bands   [0:07:56]   Music influences    [0:10:08]   Tour life: In Flames   [0:14:26]   How technology impacted ticket and album sales   [0:18:21]  Own all your shit   [0:27:09]   Give it everything you've got   [0:29:28]  Coping with tendonitis   [0:31:12]  Stem Cell Therapy   [0:47:22]  Mental Health Awareness   [0:48:41]  A new spiritual path   [0:55:41]  People need to relate   [0:58:32]  Staying humble   [0:59:53]  Tanners tattoo   Get in touch:   Connect with Tanner: In Flames: https://www.inflames.com/ New Album: https://shopinflames.com/collections/media Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tannerwayne/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/tannerWayne The Hollows: https://www.thehollowband.com/   Connect with Aaron:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chatsandtatts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AaronVedova Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aaron.dellavedova/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chatsandtatts/featured   Want more musician chat? As our last guest of 2022, it's only right that we bring on an artist who's been a major voice and influence within our city and scene for a long time now. When we think about the major R&B players from Boston we often refer to Bobby Brown, Mike Bivins and the rest of New Edition, but there are others who have played a hand in the story of others; even the guys just mention previously. So this week we welcome Cyrus Deshield, the singer/songwriter originally from Liberia who came to the South End section of Boston and became the Grammy nominated creative he is today! Some may remember Cyrus from being a part of the R&B group "617" which rebranded to "Metro City" while under the wing of the for NE Patriot Willie McGinest's record label and Interscope Records. What many don't know are the hardship's Cyrus had to face prior the music with even making his way to the states, the black-balling and politics he faced once he and his peers stepped into the industry, and all the moves he's made in the background as a ghostwriter for many. He's written for the likes of Bell Biv Devoe, New Edition, Musiq Soulchild (which earned him a Grammy nomination), and many more. Within our scene he's been the voice of many hooks with Millyz, Lou Armstrong, Slaine, and other notables. It goes without saying that EVERYBODY should know this man's name and hear his story of perseverance which is far from over!Join Charlie MaSheen, Shanelle Shanté, & KASH as we welcome Cyrus Deshield to the pod in what was a special occasion as he was in town for his nomination as "Best R&B artist" at this year's BMAs. After we won "Best Music Podcast of The Year" for 2 years consecutively, it was a great feeling to sit across a fellow nominee just one day after the award show to give him his flowers; win or lose! This conversation consisted of Cyrus's earliest memories of leaving a war riddled Liberia and heading to the US, the forming of his days within a group, the ugly side of the music game, AND SO MUCH MORE!
