That's definitely the case with Nthabiseng, who brought us the story of a group of elderly and retired men and woman in her community who have developed and grown a vegetable garden and spend their days planting, harvesting, expanding, and attending to the vegetables. This is their story and how Hot Cares is going to help them. Hot Cares

Fat Cats Cricket club has been in existence from about 2007. Around that time we enlisted in the Last Man Standing (LMS) league, but we didn't even complete the season due to a myriad of problems including finance and player availability. It was not until 2018 when it was formalised and accepted by the BOG. That year an interim structure was put in place and by January 2019, the club had a first executive structure, which has been in charge since. Fat Cats cricket was brought about mainly by people with keen interest in the club. In 2007 when we started, we used to play two games per year, mainly in November/December. These were termed Blacks v Whites, given that our members were playing against the school mates who happened to be white, from the same schools they attended. We then decided to get more serious and arranged more fixtures in a year. These took place on public holidays. March 21, April 27, May 2 and September 24 gave us an opportunity to confirm fixtures. We used to play against each other (split the team into two, and have fun). Famously, the September 24 date became known as Fat Cats cricket day and everyone was welcome, even those who had never held a cricket bat before. They first played cricket on this occasion.
Episode #66 with Nthabiseng Sejake, who is a rising star in the world of property investment. Nthabiseng is the founder of B Evolution, a rapidly expanding rental business based in Soweto. Despite having a portfolio with dozens of quality apartments on three sites in Soweto, Nthabiseng's business has been unable to secure funding from South Africa's formal banking sector. Nonetheless, her company has thrived in a market often overlooked by traditional investors. During this episode, she shares her insights on the challenges facing entrepreneurs in the property sector and how she has navigated these obstacles to build a successful business. What We Discuss With NthabisengWhat is the current state of South Africa's property industry? How do individuals operating independently, like yourself, succeed in accessing and establishing a foothold in the highly competitive real estate industry? Soweto is an iconic place with a rich history and culture, but the western media has always depicted it as a low-income and high-crime area. What is the reality of living and building a business in Soweto? What tips would you give to other budding property entrepreneurs in Africa? What do you think the importance of people from Soweto playing a big role in the development and regeneration of the area is? “Can I Google you? That's the first question because I think nowadays because we have that platform, if you tell me my business is so and so and how do I verify it as a consumer? I'm going to check Google, and if I can't pick you up, I don't know if you're real, I don't know if I should be giving you my money.” Nthabiseng Makgatho is a marketer who has been very deliberate with the brands she has worked for, choosing brands that have a positive impact. In this podcast, she discusses the evolution of marketing over the last few years, particularly the shift from traditional to digital marketing. With the rise of digital media, marketing is no longer a one-way conversation - with marketers bombarding consumers and customers with messages. Consumers and customers can now co-create marketing messages with marketers. Nthabiseng also highlights how digital marketing has made marketing more affordable and accessible to entrepreneurs, who can now access many of the same resources as big corporations, and encourages entrepreneurs to use these resources. For more on marketing and digital marketing, listen to the full interview with Nthabiseng.

Polish Management was formed by Nthabiseng in 2014 after identifying a gap in enterprises that independently run their own HR and Payroll functions with little understanding of regularities around the employment practices within the industries they operate in, leaving them vulnerable to high penalties and interests accumulated due to lack of knowledge. In this episode, Nthabiseng shares her journey in founding the business and lessons learned along the way.
This week we talk to the Vice-President of the Pan African University and Dean of the Mamelodi Campus University of Pretoria - Professor Nthabiseng Audrey Ogude. We discuss some of the intrinsics of the institution’s anchor strategy which inextricably links the future of the community of Mamelodi with that of the University’s Mamelodi campus. One arm of this strategy is to implement interventions that stem the cycle of poverty, for instance by focussing on education and broadening academic pathways for members of the community. Prof. Ogude describes the Pan African University as a human capital initiative with five regional specialised research nodes. Governance, Social Sciences and Humanities in Central Africa; Basic Sciences in East Africa; Life Sciences in West Africa; Water and Energy in North Africa; and shortly Space Sciences will be created in South Africa. We address some of the factors that contribute to women in leadership, including the need for people to recognise potential leaders and encourage their growth into leadership roles; the need for individuals to shadow leaders; the importance of exercising leadership effectively in whatever sphere one occupies; and to have a supportive environment particularly in the home. Tune in for more…
