New GX Capital, one of the principal investors in Vumatel and Dark Fibre Africa parent CIVH, recently announced it was launching a R2.4-billion clean-tech investment fund in partnership with RMB Ventures. To unpack the details of the new fund and why it's being established, New GX Capital founder and CEO Khudusela Pitje joined TechCentral editor Duncan McLeod in the latest episode of the TechCentral Show for a wide-ranging conversation. In the interview, Pitje chatted about the fund – called the Airnegize Capital Fund – and its plans to invest in renewable energy and water and gas infrastructure across Africa. New GX Capital and RMB Ventures have described the fund as “one of the largest of its kind on the continent”. The fund has secured R2.4-billion in initial commitments, with the companies targeting a further R1.6-billion before financial close in the coming months. In this episode of the TechCentral Show, Pitje expands on: • His career background and the formation of New GX Capital; • The role his father, the late HM Pitje, a businessman and former mayor of Mamelodi, played in his life and career choices; • His role in helping build Dark Fibre Africa and CIVH; • Why he feels the decision by the competition authorities to block the acquisition by Vodacom of a 30% co-controlling stake in Maziv – a subsidiary of CIVH that houses Vumatel and DFA – was wrongheaded; • The role New GX Capital plays today, as well as its investment philosophy; • What led to the creation of the Airnegize Fund with RMB Ventures; and • The role and future of black economic empowerment in South Africa. Don't miss a fascinating conversation! TechCentral

Residents of Mamelodi are on the verge of realising a long-held dream: the creation of a skateboard park near the Mamelodi East Police Station. This project owes much to the dedicated efforts of Poelo Mofolo, founder of the Mamelodi Skate Club. Despite hitting a wall in securing a venue for the skate park, Mofolo found a breakthrough when he reached out to Dean McPherson, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Development, via Instagram and received an immediate response. In an interview with Biznews, Mofolo shared his inspiring journey from childhood spent in children's homes, where skateboarding and acting became vital outlets. A mentor, Katie Miller, played a pivotal role by introducing him to acting and speech lessons, helping him evolve from "a kid living in a room with 20 other kids" to winning Eisteddfods, often without any family members in the audience. Today, Mofolo is not only a passionate skateboarder and actor but also a determined advocate for helping other children succeed. His vision for the skate park includes transforming it into a multi-purpose educational facility featuring after-school programmes for kids in Mamelodi. Mofolo believes that nothing in life comes for free, so he offers free skateboards in exchange for volunteer hours spent in the community garden

Our guest for today is Nkateko Mlambo, an AirBnB Hostpreneur. She is originally from Mamelodi, a marketing graduate and in her final year of BCom Law Degree. She is also a property investor. She started her property investment journey in 2008 when she was in the mall with her mom and they saw a real estate agent in the mall. She bought a property for less than R500k and a real estate agent told her she doesn't have to live in the property, she could get a tenant to pay the rent. She went to CNA and bought a lease agreement. After the first month she received rental income from her tenant and decided she wants to get own property. Bought the second property (3 bed, 2 bath) in the township in Mamelodi in 2016. It's close to shopping centers and transport. The appreciation and the rental income of the second property were so much better than in town or suburbs. When she was purchasing her second property she had issues with the bank, which questioned her affordability. So she had to do her own arbitration. She realized that using her payslip to invest in property was going to be a problem for her. So she booked a property seminar to learn more about growing her property investing portfolio. She learned about property in a company name and in a trust. It became clear to her that if she was growing to grow in this space she needed a mentor and coach. She learned about the rent to rent strategy; she rented a property and then rented it out on AirBnB.  Started to search for properties in Pretoria East and looked for properties listed by the owners, sent an enquiry to the Landlord and spoke to him about subletting the property. She made money within the first week of renting out the first property. She then repeated the AirBnB strategy in Cape Town and rented out the property on AirBnB before they even concluded the rental agreement. In this episode Nkateko explains how to make 2 to 3 times more income with AirBnB than with a buy to rent strategy.

Soos Fred Rogers gesê het: ‘When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me; Look for the helpers. You will always find people who help.'

Rioting in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal shows no signs of letting up, as the authorities have pledged to clamp down on the violence. Looting has continued in Alexandra, Diepsloot, Vosloorus, and Mamelodi, although it was reportedly calm in the Johannesburg city centre. In Alexandra, looters have torched parts of the Pan Africa Mall and several businesses in the vicinity. Earlier, at last, 10 people died in a stampede at a mall in Meadowlands, Soweto. It's believed that about 300 people have been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal and another 453 in Gauteng. While the turmoil was triggered by the imprisonment of former president Jacob Zuma following his conviction on contempt of court charges, the government says criminal elements are exploiting the current situation. Nkosinathi Sithole, popularly known by his stage name Snow Deep, is a South African record producer & DJ.Snow Deep is critical acclaimed as Amapiano Pioneer by a lot of his fans and his music journey started back in 2013 when he started releasing seasonal mixtapes. Born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. The musical expedition began in the early years of his teenage life, where he then established a production band with his childhood friends to be called “White City Boys”. As a hobby and probably a rather perceptible interest in the social lifestyle, the group caught a lot of attention. Seemingly because they produced their own music and performed it as well, making them one the few artists to do so in Mamelodi.

On this episode I chat with Kabelo about the role of the credit ombud and what they are doing to support Money Smart Week.   Money Smart Week runs from the 22nd to the 28th March: Money Smart Week South Africa (MSWSA), an initiative of the National Consumer Financial Education Committee (NCFEC), is a financial literacy campaign aimed at motivating and empowering South Africans to become more educated about their finances. MSWSA 2021 is taking place between 22 and 28 March 2021.   The inaugural campaign in 2018 included activities to Mamelodi, Tembisa, Alexandra and Soweto within Gauteng, reaching over 5 500 consumers at various activities and reaching over 9 million people through various media platforms. With MSWSA 2020 being cancelled due to COVID-19, the MSWSA 2021 campaign aims to reach as many South Africans as possible via small physical events as well as online events to inspire people to become more financially literate and to educate people about the myriad of structures that exist to provide financial advice. https://www.mswsa.co.za/ https://wattsinvolved.co.za/ https://davidwattsblog.com/
