A Pahoa man was charged after allegedly threatening to kill his former in-laws and holding a man at gunpoint. Sione Siale is charged with four offenses, including terroristic threatening and reckless endangering. Hawaii Island police have arrested and charged a 38-year-old man with sexual assault and an array of domestic violence-related crimes following an incident on Sunday. Two women were injured in what Hawaii County Police are calling a "vicious dog attack" in Pahoa. It happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday on Bamboo Drive in Ainaloa Estates. Leilani Estates is one of the any private subdivisions in Puna, and was mostly known only to local residents of the Island of Hawaii. But five years ago, Madam Pele put it on the map. It was May 3, 2018, when the first fissure opened in the subdivision. By the time the eruption was done, lava covered nearly 14 square miles of land and claimed more than 700 homes. The main front of the Puna lava flow closest to the town of Pahoa has stalled, but remains active. Several breakouts have occurred on the rear and edge of the flow.

Hawaii Army and Air National Guardsmen were called to support Hawaii County Civil Defense authorities reacting to the Puna lava flow. They patrolled neighborhoods and blocked roads from curious onlookers from the lava flow advancing towards homes.
