President Trump promised to address crime in Washington, D.C. following an attack on a former DOGE employee. This week, the president put his plan into action. He ordered the deployment of 800 National Guardsmen to patrol the District. The guardsmen will be joined by members of a number of federal agencies. Is there more to the president's decision than enforcing law and order? The president will shift his focus from D.C. to Anchorage, Alaska and a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The two leaders are scheduled to discuss possible next steps towards an end to the war in Ukraine. Can president Trump negotiate peace without conceding to Russian demands? The Trump administration has worked to push America's cultural institutions further to the right. But can that shift expand past the halls of power? Is American society really growing more conservative?

The Kent State Massacre When I was 8 years old, my biggest fear was Vietnam. I had two uncles that went over there, only one returned. The big kids in my neighborhood wore “black power” and “freedom” buttons and patches on their jackets, they talked about the was in Vietnam and of the stories they heard, and at eight years old, those stories, it didn't matter if they were real or not, scared me like the Boogeyman. Many young men had dreams of an education so they could live better than their parents, of pretty girls and success! Being drafted made it almost certain that a young man's dreams would stay just that, “a dream.” So, young men (and women) chose to make their stand and fight right here at home. Young Americans knew that they had rights and a voice to be heard. But, our government did not want to hear their voices and that is where the trouble began. The massacre at Kent State was an example of “order gone wrong.” The University President feared an uprising, the Mayor of Kent feared for the safety of his city and the Governor of Ohio simply wanted to keep young people in line. So, he allowed maybe, an ambitious General to order his National Guardsmen to “lock and load” their weapons and face a crowd of young, civilians armed with only their voices. All it took was a noise, maybe the crack from a stick under a guardsmen's boot to start the shooting. 13 seconds, 67 shots to kill 4 and wound 9.There was massive backlash, but this story leads only up to the shooting. And if you are ready to hear it. Press play.

Protests in Los Angeles sprang up this week as residents sought to deter ICE raids in several neighborhoods. The raids are part of a larger “mass deportation” program Trump promised to enact on the campaign trail. Recent polls show that mass deportation maintained popularity amongst a majority of voters, but will the images coming out of LA change the perception of immigration policy?California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass told the federal government that local law enforcement could handle the situation in Los Angeles. Despite this, President Trump called in 4,000 National Guardsmen as well as several hundred Marines. It's sparked a discussion over the administration's continued efforts to expand executive powers. Has Trump acted outside the powers of the office?President Trump's “Big, Beautiful Bill” is full of corporate-friendly tax breaks and major cuts to entitlement programs. So why does Wall Street hate it? Has the president missed the chance to build a true coalition on the right?

The struggle for control of California's National Guard is playing out in the courts. Yesterday, a federal judge ruled the Trump administration illegally federalized California's National Guardsmen and women and ordered command returned to Governor Gavin Newsom by noon today. The Trump administration filed an appeal and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court temporarily blocked that order. Trump retains control of California's troops until at least Tuesday, June 17th, when the appeals court will hold a hearing on the matter. We are fortunate to have former federal prosecutor David Katz help us understand the courts decision with an eye toward how this may all play out. With thousands of National Guardsmen and Marines descending on Los Angeles because (checks notes) someone set a car on fire, the narrative from the right is predictable in the face of growing public resentment to them: send in the hammers all in riot gear with tear gas canisters, flash bombs and dressed in riot gear and foment chaos to create a spectacle for their base. It's a trope as old (older, actually) than this 51-year old podcaster. It famously backfired in Selma, Alabama when the television brought the scene into living rooms across the country. In 2025, with divided media and a hyper-partisan political landscape, it's still becoming clear Americans actually are re-remembering they didn't care much for Trump's brand of chaos even before COVID-19. Pretty damning Quinnipiac poll numbers bear that out. Back to the familiar "tough talk bravado" from empty suit Republicans: Tuesday it was Trump, himself, warning protestors of his military parade there'd be 'heavy force' used against them. Meanwhile, here in Georgia, both the governor and attorney general are (predictably) using loaded rhetoric - leading with it, even - to lay the foundation for the upcoming 'No Kings' and Juneteenth rallies to be potential powder kegs. It's all they know; it's all conservatives going back to the Civil Rights era have ever known. It's also a sign that they're losing grip on narratives aplenty. Again, those Quinnipiac poll numbers.------Meanwhile, Donald Trump and his Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth - both clearly not white nationalists - got back to re-renaming military bases to undo the removal of names honoring Confederate leaders by finding other U.S. veterans with identical last names, even going so far as to find a last name starts with an "A" and a "P" so "A.P. Hill" could return as a base name. The level of pettiness, mixed with backhanded honoring and slaps-in-the-face to the family of those who'd had bases re-named for them three years ago is ... astounding. ------Lastly, I have a new Instagram crush; an Arkansas poet named Robert Arnold who's calling out ICE raids and the L.A. 'theater' to questioning what became of the proud, hardworking 'southern men' that smalled BS from slick-haired northerner grifters like the Trumps, and I just felt the need to share his wisdom and biting commentary with y'all.

It's Newsday Tuesday™ with the MR crew and we'll be digging into the Trump administration's deployment of federal troops to Los Angeles amid protests over ICE raids there. Pete Hegseth tries to justify why federal troops are in LA during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing by pushing falsehoods about both the situation on the ground, the state and local response and federal policies involving the deployment of troops. Meanwhile, National Guardsmen are sleeping on the floor in their uniforms because the hap-hazard nature of this whole operation. California's governor Gavin Newsom for his part says he's going to be suing the Trump administration over it's actions and points out that because of these deployments other important efforts like fire safety are being compromised. Donald Trump says that Greta Thunberg should take anger management classes after her peaceful humanitarian flotilla to Gaza was detained in international waters by the Israeli military. Russell Brand, who is looking more ridiculous with each passing day, mocks Greta and is seemingly upset that unlike him she actually acts based on her convictions. In the Fun Half, Chuck Todd talks to Steve Bannon, who is openly questioning whether Elon Musk ever should have had classified clearances that aren't even granted to weapons contractors like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Scott Galloway also gets in on the beat down on Musk, though he sort of misses the key point which is that Musk (or any individual for that matter) should hold that much power. And we check in on Ezra Klein, who's taken to the pages of his local paper the New York Times to further make the case for the Abundance Agenda. We also take some calls from listeners. Tune in! The Clay Edwards Show Live at Men's Health & Women's Wellness Studios Tune in for a lively and unfiltered episode of The Clay Edwards Show, broadcast live from the Men's Health & Women's Wellness Studios in Madison, Mississippi. Hosted by Clay Edwards, with special guest Chip Matthews, this episode of "your daily dose of reality radio" dives into a mix of current events, local politics, and candid conversations, delivering the no-sugar-added talk that listeners expect. Recorded on June 10, 2025, the show covers everything from the Los Angeles riots to Mississippi's political landscape, with plenty of humor and local flavor sprinkled throughout.   The episode kicks off with Clay and Chip discussing the ongoing unrest in Los Angeles, drawing parallels to the 1992 LA riots. They highlight the deployment of 700 Marines and 4,000 National Guardsmen to address the riots, comparing the aggressive tactics of Marines to the National Guard's approach in ‘92. The conversation takes a sharp turn as they critique California's political climate, with Clay suggesting the state's GDP claims could be tested by “chopping it off” the U.S. They also touch on a viral story of a leftist running an LA police scanner account who doxxed ICE agents, only to face backlash when doxxed himself, leading him to delete his X account after threatening deadly force—a classic case of “finding out” after “fooling around.”   Locally, the duo tackles Jackson, Mississippi's challenges, from systemic issues like unlit interstate stretches (notably I-20's “death curve”) to copper theft by “crackheads” impacting infrastructure. They lament the city's loss of institutional knowledge due to retiring public works staff and question a $1.3 million Jackson State study on traffic lights, wondering if it's about flow or “systemic racism.” Clay shares a personal anecdote about driving through Jackson's dark, dangerous roads, emphasizing the need for basic fixes over symbolic studies.   The show shifts to Mississippi politics, sparked by Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gibson's cryptic X post hinting at a gubernatorial run with “proven conservative leadership” signs for the Neshoba County Fair. Clay and Chip speculate on whether Gibson, a popular figure likened to iconic Ag Commissioners like Jim Buck Ross, is too conservative for Mississippi's “purple” electorate. They debate other potential 2027 gubernatorial candidates, including Shad White, Delbert Hosemann, Lynn Fitch, and billionaire Duff, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. Listeners chime in via the Guns ‘N' Gear Text Line and live chat, with opinions ranging from support for White's integrity to skepticism about Gibson's “Little House on the Prairie” image. The discussion highlights Mississippi's purple political reality, where gun and abortion laws lean red, but broader policies reflect moderation. Clay and Chip also dive into cultural topics, lamenting the decline of “breastaurants” like Hooters and Twin Peaks in Jackson, attributing it to crime, non-tipping customers, and “woke” mismanagement. They share a humorous story about a pregnant Hooters waitress in Jackson, Tennessee, and explore the rise of OnlyFans, with Chip recounting a job applicant earning $1,000 weekly as a foot model. The conversation veers into a lighthearted discussion about fetishes, with both hosts admitting to “normal” preferences and judging niche ones with a wink.   The episode wraps up with a nod to Men's Health & Women's Wellness of Mississippi, where Clay will broadcast live from noon to 2:00 PM at 120 Fountains Boulevard, Madison. He praises the clinic's unintimidating, male-friendly environment, offering services like testosterone screenings, semaglutide for weight loss, and discreet prescriptions for erectile dysfunction. Clay shares how the clinic serves as his primary care provider, making healthcare accessible and affordable through a no-contract membership model. He'll be joined by Dr. Michael Walker for a livestreamed interview, showcasing the clinic's comprehensive offerings for men and women. Don't miss this dynamic episode packed with raw takes on national and local issues, political speculation, and a glimpse into Mississippi's unique cultural pulse. Four weeks in a row, can you believe it?! This week we are back with a Substantive Cinema pick that we've been excited for for quite some time, Walter Hill's underrated masterpiece Southern Comfort. The movie follows a squad of National Guardsmen doing exercises in the Louisiana swamps. After some painfully avoidable events, the men become hunted and are on the run for their lives against an enemy of their own making in a place that, while actually being part of their own homeland, they find entirely foreign. On the one hand, the film is a perfectly thrilling and taut entertainment. However, it's also a substantive look at White male entitlement, American exceptionalism, militarism, race relations, and more. If you enjoyed the film or our discussion we'd love for you to send us an email or voice note. Wildberries founder and CEO Tatyana Kim (who recently restored her maiden name) has been having a hell of a time shaking loose her husband, Vladislav Bakalchuk, but their very public divorce is just the tip of the iceberg in what's become a battle between some of the most powerful political groups in Russia's North Caucasus. On September 18: Vladislav Bakalchuk tried to storm the company's office in the Romanov Dvor business center — just a few hundred yards from the Kremlin itself. Bakalchuk has very publicly opposed the Wildberries-RussGroup merger and recently met with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to plead his case, winning the dictator's support. At the Moscow office, Bakalchuk's entourage had two former senior executives, but — more importantly — he was accompanied by former and current Chechen police officers and National Guardsmen, as well as trained martial artists from Chechnya, including former world and European taekwondo champion Umar Chichaev. According to Novaya Gazeta Europe, Chichaev fired his service weapon, though his status in the National Guard is a bit fuzzy. On the other side of the conflict, defending the Wildberries office was another team of police and police-adjacent men with ties to Ingushetia. According to the newspaper Novaya Gazeta, Wildberries had recently hired a private security company with ties to Ingush State Duma deputy Bekkhan Barakhoev, who, until three years ago, worked as a vice president of a subsidiary of Russ Outdoor — the smaller company now merging with Wildberries. The most important shadow figure at Russ Outdoor, meanwhile, is Suleiman Kerimov, a billionaire senator from Dagestan. The office shootout left two Ingush men dead and more than two dozen suspects in police custody, though Vladislav Bakalchuk miraculously escaped charges as a mere witness. He claims he merely showed up for a planned business meeting, but Tatyana Kim calls the incident a failed attempt at a hostile takeover. Mexico's war on drugs refers to the ongoing conflict and efforts by the Mexican government to combat drug trafficking organizations operating within the country. The war on drugs in Mexico gained significant attention in the mid-2000s and has since resulted in widespread violence, human rights abuses, and social unrest. The roots of Mexico's drug war can be traced back to the 1980s and 1990s when drug cartels, mainly based in the northern states, began to grow in power and influence. The cartels, such as the Sinaloa Cartel, Gulf Cartel, and Juarez Cartel, engaged in drug trafficking, organized crime, and corruption, posing a significant threat to Mexico's stability and security. The conflict escalated in 2006 when then-President Felipe Calderón launched a military-led crackdown on the drug cartels, deploying tens of thousands of troops across the country. This marked the official beginning of Mexico's war on drugs. The government's objective was to dismantle the cartels, reduce drug-related violence, and restore public order. However, the intensified enforcement actions had unintended consequences. The aggressive approach led to a surge in violence as the cartels resisted the government's efforts, resulting in a cycle of retaliatory attacks, massacres, and the targeting of law enforcement officials, politicians, and journalists.Innocent civilians have also been caught in the crossfire, leading to a significant loss of life and widespread human rights abuses. The drug war has exposed systemic issues within Mexico, including corruption within law enforcement agencies and the government, weak institutions, and socio-economic disparities. It has also fueled the growth of criminal organizations and the expansion of their activities beyond drug trafficking, such as extortion, kidnapping, and human trafficking. In this episode, we hear about a troubling new tactic used by the cartel that injured 8 Mexican national guardsman.(commercial at 10:09)to contact me:bobbycapucci@Protonmail.comsource:Car Bomb Explodes In Mexican City Amid Escalating Cartel Turf War (latintimes.com)
