Welcome to the third and final part of the Episode 1000 anniversary episode, recorded at live events held at four locations throughout the greater Chicagoland area. My original idea was to combine all the interviews and performances into one single release. As fate would have it… it's just too much content for one single episode, so I decided to break it up and make it more digestible.   For this episode, recorded at Skeleton Key Brewery in Woodridge, Siren Records in McHenry, and Liar's Club in Chicago, and the Q101 Lounge, you'll hear (and see):   An interview with DEHD on the sweet Q101 radio mics. One of my favorite bands, AM TAXI, performing and chatting from Skeleton Key. Siren Records owner Bill Lindquist. Long time pop-punk favorites Showoff. And a fantastic peformance and chat with the synthy goth pop duo clubdrugs.     In between segments, you'll also get to enjoy messages from former podcast guests, sharing their Episode 1000 greetings. This time around, that includes Patrick Brower of Challengers Comics + Conversation, Stubhy from Lucky Boys Confusion, Bullet to the Heart, Denis Buckley of 88 Fingers Louie, and You Died.   ##   CCC is sponsored by Easy Automation. Imagine sitting at your desk at work, a day like any other. All of a sudden you hear a rumbling that gets louder, and louder. Then you look out the window and see it: a massive tank (yes - TANK), covered in guns, coming straight towards your office. You get outside just in time to see this thing completely flatten your building to the ground, then drive away. Um… WHAT? That's exactly what happened in 2004 to the people in Granby, Colorado. Marvin Heemeyer, a local man, was angry at most people in town about a bunch of different nonsense, so he decided to take revenge by spending more than a year modifying a bulldozer into a weaponised war-like tank, which he then drove all over town for several hours destroying everything in his wake. As you do. Local businesses, the town hall, the library, even the police station - all flattened by the Killdozer. And because this thing was indestructible (bullet-proof, bomb-proof, unbreakable steel), there was nothing the police could do, but watch helplessly and hope something - anything - would stop it. It literally got to the point where the army considered dropping a bomb on it so strong it would also destroy the entire town. So what stopped the Killdozer in the end? Burger King unveiled it's Whopperito (a Whopper made like a burrito) on August 15th, and I decided to try it during BK's launch week. Fast food's never been a Car Con Carne "thing," but sometimes I have to point the Mazda 3 in the direction of the zeitgeist. Patrick Brower, co-owner of Challengers Comics and co-host of the excellent behind-the-scenes Yak Channel Network podcast "Contest of Challengers," jumped in the front seat to try the Whopperito with me. Patrick's an old friend and a great conversationalist. Over Whopperitos, we cover: *Patrick's kidney stone. He's been waiting for weeks to pass it. We cover every aspect of the diagnosis and subsequent medical concerns and initiatives, including straining pee (like panning for gold), pain meds and the discomfort of getting an ultrasound. It's a fascinating (and funny) discussion; though perhaps inappropriate for dinner conversation. *Who has the best fast food fries (it's not Burger King) *The nuances of the Whopperito: Donde esta el queso? *We miss Mike Bratton, who in part inspired the Whopperito trip *More Whopperito: "As we're getting deeper, it's getting messier" *The thing I'm doing for the first time in my life that has me excited *The absolute worst wrestler on WWE RAW *Starting "Contest of Challengers" as a brand extension eight years ago *The decision behind sharing all the behind-the-scenes aspects of owning and running a retail store *The horrible discovery I made while watching the Car Con Carne TV pilot *DC Comics' "Rebirth" and its sales impact on Challengers *The lingerie problem in the "Killing Joke" animated movie *"Little people" and Hornswaggle *The "slam dunks" the next Spider-Man movie needs to include *Patrick accepts the blame for the episode's length Tell a friend! Dal Bush started the shop, the plusses and minuses of being a retailer, how his team approaches sales, diversity, the power of Raina Telgemeier, and much more. This is a fitting pair with our longform piece on a recent retailer survey we did, and if you're a creator or someone interested in the comic industry, there's a lot to dig into here.
