Dublin Coach has apologised for what it's branded as "unacceptable" service delivery failures in Ennis. The company has met with Ennis Municipal District councillors this week following a recent call from Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard for a briefing to be held to address issues with the service including punctuality, capacity and "no-show" buses. It's understood that the provider has significantly boosted its fleet and staffing numbers in recent months, resulting in a 100% increase in passengers on the Ennis service since January and a 96% jump in service delivery across the same period. Dublin Coach Regional General Manager Frances Cahill is hopeful they can regain passengers' trust.

On this month's commentary we look at a nearly 40 year old classic which feels as though it could have been released in response to the world at large today: Test Dept.'s The Unacceptable Face Of Freedom. In addition to the record's searing indictment of the intertwining of capitalism and fascism at the expense of the working class, it marks a turning point for the band, with their classic industrial percussive sound now being tempered with an increased focus on sampling and programming, pointing the way forward for post-industrial music.

Ennis's local representatives have described a cut to the area's roads funding for this year as "unacceptable". Both the county town and Shannon will have less money to put towards roads maintenance in 2025, while the county's other municipal districts have seen their level of funding increase. Clare County Council has revealed that its total roads maintenance budget this year is €27.44 million which is up 12% on 2024. The budget is supplemented by various Government funding streams, while a total of €3.21 million comes from the local authority's own resources. The increased funding is welcome given that newly-released figures show the county's roads maintenance works have gone over budget by €2.42 million in the last three years, with 2024's works alone going €1.48 million over budget. While the Killaloe, Kilrush and Ennistymon municipal districts have each had their funding boosted this year, Ennis and Shannon's allocation's have been cut by 12% and 7%, respectively. Clarecastle Sinn Féin Councillor Tommy Guilfoyle insists the Government should be giving local authorities' more resources to bring their roads up to an acceptable standard.

AUDREY'S CHILDREN stars Natalie Dormer as Dr. Audrey Evans, the oncologist whose staging system revolutionized how childhood cancers are treated. Before her work in the '70s, these cancers were handled with a sort of one-size-fits-all approach. The result of Evans' research was a categorization of cases, impacted by age, tumor location, length of time diagnosed with the disease and more. She advocated for more aggressive chemotherapy regiments, sometimes utilizing a combo of drugs. This wasn't a popular idea at the time, but given that era's survival rate for pediatric neuroblastoma patients was merely 10%, I think said situation couldn't hurt from tougher solutions. Nowadays, the survival rate's jumped up to over 80%.Evans' work didn't just stop in the clinic; she recognized that a child's success with treatment depended on their family's ability to sustain the burden. If they couldn't afford the treatment or the housing required to be close to their kid, families would be forced to cut the help short. Unacceptable. As a result, Dr. Evans partnered with the Philadelphia Eagles football team and McDonald's to open the first Ronald McDonald Charity House.Dr. Evans was indefatigable, which makes Dormer's portrayal that much more impressive. She's in almost every scene, carrying her gait with poise and purpose despite whatever setbacks. It's even a pain getting records with which to build a case study. Never mind trying to nab funding. Never mind having to look at nerve-shredded families in the eyes and update them on the state of their dying kids.But the upside is that the lighting seems to be on Audrey's side. Canaan Mann and director of photography Jon Keng frame their characters against large, backlit windows, which suggest that, even in a dour-looking hospital, the sun and beauty of nature are desperate to break through, giving these kids hope. It can manifest as emotional neglect, severe criticism, unequal treatment, or outright denial of one's reality. In this P4P episode, we sit down with Dr. Robin Brody who shares her insights on how traumatic invalidation can directly challenge a person's sense of self-worth and belonging in the world and can play a significant role in the development and maintenance of PTSD.
