Janet speaks with Justin Kerns from the Winchester/Frederick County Convention & Visitors Bureau, who provides exciting details about the upcoming Winchester Winter Village event happening in Old Town Winchester during the first weekend of December. Justin recalls how the idea sprouted in mid-2023 and took much planning and collaboration with local stakeholders, business owners, and the community to bring this whimsical event to life. The goal was to create a vibrant Christmas town atmosphere that would not only boost the local economy but also extend festive cheer throughout December. Justin provides insight into the event's structure, emphasizing its community-owned nature and the careful curation of vendors to complement local brick-and-mortar stores. He mentions the Kinder Village setup, which includes activities for children, Santa, and the Grinch, and lots of free family-friendly fun. Highlighting some of last year's successes, Justin mentions the overwhelmingly positive response from both the vendors and the community. HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!Our veteran population is crucial to our way of life for many reasons.  They have dedicated a portion of their lives to protecting our freedoms, shaping our nation, and setting the example of adaptability and service. Veterans Day is a time for us to stand united in showing our respect and support to those who have served. Veteran wellness is something that must be a united, daily effort. Service members face unique challenges throughout their military careers. The type, intensity, and duration of service, along with multiple layers of complexity during the transition process into veteran status can have a negative impact on health and well-being. This is a meaningful topic to both of us for many reasons and we are proud to focus on ways to collaborate with individuals and organizations who support veteran health and well-being.Welcome to SEASON TWO of The Nature of Wellness Podcast!!! Join us for this special premiere episode as we share two interviews with veterans who make life better for those who serve. John Langford served in the Marine Corps, as both enlisted and officer, for 23 years, retiring in 2009. During his service, John held multiple positions that focused on the health and well-being of active-duty Marines. John continues to devote his time to supporting those who have worn the uniform and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Project Healing Waters, a non-profit dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings. John continues to devote his time to serving those who have served.John talks about the challenges that veterans face during the transition, how time in nature (especially near water) can positively impact health and well-being, the origins and incredible program offerings of PHW, and the power of resilience and authenticity. Sarah Evans served in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Captain. While serving in Afghanistan in 2012,  she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, eventually leading to the amputation of her left leg at the hip. During her recovery, Sarah was introduced to adaptive sports, leading her down a path of self-discovery and growth. She has completed the 26.2-mile Bataan Memorial Death March and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Since Covid 19 hit, PHW had to adjust and now actors can learn from the same instruction from anywhere in the world.  You no longer have to be in Los Angeles to work on your craft. Playhouse West is now doing online classes. In this two-part series and we are speaking with the PlayHouse West teachers about what they are teaching and how anyone can get started. Creativity and art does not stop.

Podcast Host and Guide David Perry at Southeastern Fly travels across Tennessee to meet with Jessica Callihan  at the Clinch River. Jessica talks of her service to our country and how a fall took her from a helicopter mechanic to pain and multiple surgeries. She talks about the injury and how Project Healing Waters (PHW) helped her to turn the corner from depression, and the pain, to an angler who has a deep love for the sport of fly David and Jessica talk at length about her time learning from local angler (and all around nice guy) Buzz Buffington. Jessica, who is originally from Michigan, brings us along as she walks through her time on the Clinch while working with PHW and finally into her transition from fly angler into the world of fly fishing art. This isn't just an episode for those who may know someone who just needs a "boost" in life, this is an episode worth hearing from many points of view.
