Hazel aka Hazel the Writer joins me to talk about a variety of fandoms. We start things off with a discussion about the Marvel Cinematic Universe including the movies and TV shows. We then talk about the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise. We cover the original show, The Legend of Korra, books and the formation of the new Avatar studios. From there, we talk a bit about Pixar's Cars franchise and then wrap up with a conversation about Cosplay. In this episode, the guys talk about the real life cars that inspired the characters in the Disney/Pixar movie "Cars". They talk about the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, along with one of its more famed drivers, Herb Thomas. Herb may not have won so much without his rule stretching pal Smokey Yunick though. We haven't lost our minds yet but we're CLOSE, BABY!! Lia and James talk more Tiger King, what they panic-bought in the past few weeks, Lia gives us a recipe, & there's a full synopsis of Pixar's Cars movie in there for some reason. Stay gold, baby!
We may be stuck at home, but that doesn't stop us from talking about movies. This week is part one of our Cars review trilogy, and what better place to start than with the first one. Disney, Pixar's Cars is quintessentially a 2006 movie and we love it. But we want to look deeper into this film and answer the big questions, such as is life... a highway?
The ultimate handsy John movie this week as we tackle Pixar's Cars! Stu returns to the show after his week away and things go down the shitter as normal. Please go and give us a follow on Twitter and be sure to send us an email, customerisweird@gmail.com if you have any suggestions for the show.

For the past number of episodes, we have covered deep and rather dark topics found in deep and somewhat dark films. In our 26th episode, we chose to lighten the mood a bit by focusing on Disney/Pixar's first of three films, Cars (2006), which was nominated for best animated feature. Our topics include 1) Materialism & Status, 2) Meaningful Relationships, and 3) Slowing Down in Life. -- Twitter: @tvtreypodcast Facebook: @tvtreypodcast Instagram: @tvtreypodcast
Is this really the final Final Destination? No, it's not, it's just called that. Despite its misleading title, the film does not disappoint: it's chock full of Rube Goldberg death machines and a complete disregard for biophysics. We'll try to figure out how some of these deaths even happen (spoiler alert: we won't get very far). We'll also talk about jean trends, how to be a cool teen, The Gentleman Cowboy, and Pixar's Cars (2006).
This week, the boys got around to watching Black Mirror's "groundbreaking" televisual event, Bandersnatch, directed by David Slade. After a spirited opening discussion about Disney/Pixar the boys dive headfirst into Black Mirror's classic headfuckery and dole out their middling experiences watching(playing?) through it's latest offering. Features surprising tangents to Richard Kelly's filmography and the work of Garth Jennings (yes, THE Garth Jennings!). Tune in next week when we finally watch Pixar's Cars.
Traveling with family is hard. Parents, spouses, kids, babies--It seems like everyone has different expectations of how it should go. What happens when you're not on the same page as your spouse? What about explicitly stated expectations? Why are relationships so hard? Hannah talks about her family's planned trip to Disney California Adventure to visit the beloved destination of Radiator Springs from Pixar's Cars. And how the plan goes a little awry when her husband has different expectations. Renee talks passionately about a TV show. (Surprise!) And how watching A Handmaid's Tale with her husband means more to her than just watching a show with her husband--even if he doesn't think so. Making us human this week? Aunt Flow (no babies, no whammies!) and a Clean/Dirty dishwasher magnet. Hey, it's the little things. Thanks to Wendy Child (http://wendychildmusic.com/) for the music! Rachelle is trying to cut down her comic book collection, and it's a lot harder than she thought it would be. She and Dave are talking about things to consider when you are trying to pare down. Also in this episode: in lieu of actual comic book news, Rachelle tries to explain the baffling sexuality of the cars in Pixar's Cars; more gushing about how great the Donny Cates/Geoff Shaw Thanos comics are, and thoughts on Captain America #700.
Sure, we've watched Pixar's Cars a few times. But doesn't mean we know anything about racing. Will and Mango dive into the strangely boozy origins of NASCAR, why you might need a yacht to enjoy Formula One, and how driver Dick Trickle made sure every race got off to a smoking start. (Spoiler: it involved drilling a couple holes in his helmet.) Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
"Story is king!" Butch Hartman uses this mantra to examine the best and worst of the animated movie library from Disney's Zootopia to Pixar's Cars 2. Jace Diehl continues the conversation with video game topics such as Cuphead and Bendy & the Ink Machine in episode 3 of Speech Bubble!
Annie and Dan return to actual Disney-related content, by going through the recent Disney news items. They discuss the possible property values at Walt Disney World, which leads into the revelation that Dan would like to be a despot. Among other things, they talk about the five new dining "concepts" coming at Disney Springs, which include something from Wolfgang Puck, something from Jose Andres, and something that Dan described as a 'hipster masturbation fantasy'. Annie brings back the "One Star Reviews" segment, which includes a review where a lady really hates this one particular rock. Lastly, they both watched Pixar's Cars 3, and they go into a pretty detailed, spoiler-laden review of the flick.
Hunter and Mick are here to give their preview of Cars 3, but they didn't come alone. They brought with them the fourth Johnson Nerd Bro, Solomon. Solomon, the 8 year old animation nerd, returns and helps the Bros discuss everything Cars 3, from their expectations for the film to the way its going to fit into the rest of the Pixar franchise. Be prepared for the cute factor that is Solomon Johnson.Season 4 Episode 5 (Episode 35).
The road to the truth can take you through some dangerous places, so keep the windows up, the doors locked, and never, ever get out of the car. Or ignore that advice, and follow us down the truth’s seedier and long-forgotten offramps, in search of the really important questions. Like: What happens when your smart house gets a little too smart? Where do those creepy Chuck E. Cheese pizza robots come from? And why is the society depicted in Pixar's Cars a mockery of the living and the dead? In this episode, we look at the first movie in Pixar's Cars series. While Cars is often considered to be the "sellout" Pixars movie, or the franchise that's only there to pay the bills, we actually breakdown the first Cars film to see how it holds up as a Pixar movie on its own.
What can a former vice cop tell us about animation screenwriting? We chat to Phil Lorin, cowriter of Pixar's CARS, who consulted for Triggerfish Storylab on their feature projects. Father's Day just happened, so James and Sid thought it would be fun to cover a movie that a father and son could watch together, Pixar's Cars! Joining us for the ride on this one is the host of What Are We Watching and creator of the Plaid Dad Blog, Christian Lee! To make things even more interesting, Christian is joined by his son, Carlin, who gives a kid's perspective on the movie and forces us to keep our mouths clean. The group discusses the real and unreal characters of cars, the insane uber-geek detail of Pixar's animators, the stories behind the cars, and whether or not Larry the Cable Guy is a great comedian. Carlin is very tolerant. Subscribe to Reels and Wheels on Stitcher or iTunes and leave feedback! Follow James (@S2KJames) and Sid (@SidBridgeComedy)! Find Christian Lee on social media and at PlaidDadBlog.com where you can learn more about all of Christian's great endeavors, including What Are We Watching and his sewing (yes, sewing) show.
Who won at the box office this weekend? Who will direct the new Jame Bond? Who is the new character in Pixar's Cars?
Inside The Mouse Castle: Disney News, Information and Commentary
Disney is juggling its movie release schedule in 2017, which means you're going to have to wait an extra seven months before you get to see Star Wars: Episode VIII. Like the massively successful The Force Awakens. Episode VIII will open during the Christmas holiday season in 2017, moving from its previously announced Memorial Day weekend release. Sailing into that prime May slot will be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment of Captain Jack Sparrow's epic adventures. Even with Star Wars' December shift, Disney will still have a pretty busy summer 2017 slate. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 will open on May 5 and Pixar's Cars 3 will hit the streets on June 16. Anthony and I grab our popcorn and Red Vines and settle in for this week's edition of Inside The Mouse Castle: At Disneyland, you can now get an up-close look at the Disneyland Railroad trains and the old Frontierland train depot. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren has started putting in appearances at the Star Wars Launch Bay. We're also happy to learn that the Pope House, the historic former residence next to Disneyland's backstage Circle D Corral, has been preserved and relocated beyond the berm on Disney property. Its previous location will become part of Star Wars Land. Josh Gad (Frozen) will host an episode of The Wonderful World of Disney, celebrating Disneyland's diamond anniversary. Disneyland 60 will air on February 21 at 8:00 p.m. We're also intrigued by a "surprise" Gad promised this week via Twitter. Big surprise coming this Thursday — Josh Gad (@joshgad) January 25, 2016 We're really hoping it's a teaser trailer for Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast, set to open March 2017. Gad will play Gaston's (Luke Evans') loyal and dimwitted sidekick Lefou. Emma Watson (Belle) and Dan Stevens (Beast) also star in the highly-anticipated reboot of the tale as old as time. Building those virtual replicas of Disney theme parks (or Universal or Six Flags) will get easier with two new roller coaster video games coming out this year. We can't wait to get our hands on Atari's Roller Coaster Tycoon World and Frontier's Planet Coaster, which both promise levels of theming and immersion never seen before in a roller coaster sim.
