Aaron and Derek start 2025 off by tackling 2007's vampire horror film "30 Days of Night" directed by David Slade and based on the comic book of the same name. They talk about the severe isolation and how unforgiving the environment is to anyone unprepared, the animalistic portrayal of the vampires, and the addition of certain character relationships not shown in the comics. They also get into the concept of becoming a monster to fight monsters, whether or not the runtime is warranted, and many other aspects of the flick. Derek and Aaron realize that cold ain't the weather. That's podcast approaching! We are on PodBean, Apple Podcasts, Podchaser, Goodpods, Amazon Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio and CastBox.

For our S06 finale, Brenna and Joe bring back guest Jenny Leigh to tackle the third entry in Stephenie Meyer's The Twilight Saga series, Eclipse (2007), as well director David Slade's 2010 film adaptation.Guess what? Something actually happens in this book (!), though the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob remains as frustrating as ever. Meanwhile, on the film side, Slade feels weirdly disconnected to the material.Plus: hilarious BTS pictures, rants about misusing Wuthering Heights, Mormon influences, and Brenna's first taste of imprinting!Wanna connect with the show? No one can deny director David Slade hit it out of the ballpark with his 2 initial features, HARD CANDY (2005) and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (2007). Both were splendid genre films and have become cult classics. Between the years he has directed music videos and television episodes among some other films. Late in 2023 his latest film DARK HARVEST was released during the Halloween season. In the early 1960's within a small isolated farming community in Illinois, every Halloween a monster known as Sawtooth Jack rises from the local cornfields. Years ago he entered the local church and cursed the town to with failed crops and hardship. Now, each year, a custom has been set in place. Each Halloween, the teenage boys of the town must hunt Sawtooth Jack before he curses the town once more. The movie is based on the novel with the same name written by author Norman Partridge. After being held back for a year, the movie was released to digital VOD as the last film by MGM/United Artist before their absorption into the Amazon movie fold. Your co-hosts take a look at David Slade's “comeback” and give their thoughts on the movie.

We're wrapping up our look at Toxic Masculinity with David Slade's feature directorial debut, Hard Candy (2005). This secret rape/revenge film features powerhouse performances from Elliot Page and Patrick Wilson and plenty of uncomfortable moments. Plus: comparisons to Promising Young Women (and Saw X?!), a frank discussion of pedophilia, plenty of strategic framing, and the prequel we want to see. Reference: Hadass S. Wade. We're going somewhere new and different this week while we're in-between series. This week, we're discussin a film released just this October called DARK HARVEST, directed by David Slade based upon a book by Norman Partridge. The premise involves a secluded mid-western town in the 1960s wherein each Halloween, every able-bodied teenage boy in the town must starve and isolate themselves for three days before emerging to participate in a violent hunt for the legendary creature known as Sawtooth Jack. The stakes are high if the boys lose, but they may be even higher if they win. We dive into this fascinating film and the ways it reflects not only our relationship to the systems which govern our everyday lives, but the ways it subtly comments on our relationships with power and control. Also featuring a Patron only segment where we try the brand new FoG game, Six Degrees of Horror Icons, this is a very heartfelt discussion that we hope you enjoy!6:27 - Business TimePatron Only Segment: Six Degrees of Horror Icons13:07 - DARK HARVESTSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Erik is a prolific baseball book author and his latest work is exceptional. The book "retells Valenzuela's arrival and permanent influence on Dodgers history, while bringing redemption to the organization's controversial beginnings in LA. Through new interviews with players, coaches, broadcasters, and media, Erik Sherman reveals a new side of this intensely private man and brings fresh insight into the ways he transformed the Dodgers and started a phenomenon that radically altered the country's cultural and sporting landscape." Eric is being honored in 2023 with his induction into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame. THE MOVIE CRYPT's special roundtable series continues as hosts Adam Green and Joe Lynch sit down with filmmakers David Slade (HARD CANDY, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, TWILIGHT: ECLIPSE) and SpookyDan Walker (SLAY BELLES, VFX artist on STAR TREK BEYOND, CELL, SLITHER) to discuss the controversy over artificial intelligence and why so many artists and tech leaders fear that the rapidly developing A.I. technology may pose an existential threat not only to the craft of storytelling… but to humanity itself! What are the pros and cons of this incredible new technology? What exactly is diffusion modeling and how does it work? Was A.I. developed and released into the hands of the general public too quickly? Should A.I. be more strictly regulated? What does A.I. mean for the future careers of filmmakers? How long until programs like ChatGBT allow studio executives and producers to stop having to rely on actual writers to generate screenplays that will be commercially appealing to an audience that's already numb from an abundance of “content?” If A.I. is creating new art from existing art then where does the original artist factor into the equation when it comes to credit and potential financial gains? What are the dangers of releasing such advanced technology into a world that is already torn apart by social media, “fake news,” and large factions of society that only believe their own eyes and ears if they like what they are seeing or hearing? Are we entering a new age of artistic enlightenment… or hurdling towards our own creative demise? As with all of our roundtable specials, we hope that you will continue this fascinating, frightening, and extremely complicated conversation with your own friends, family, and co-workers long after the episode is over.
Hey Horror Fans Welcome back to Coffee Chat of Horrors. Today we're going to be taking a deep dive into the 2007 Horror Movie 30 Days of Night. So, grab a cup of coffee and a brain, and settle in for the undead ride of your life. Based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, 30 Days of Night is a terrifying story about a small Alaskan town that experiences a month-long period of darkness. During this time, a group of bloodthirsty vampires descend upon the town, feeding on the unsuspecting residents. Directed by David Slade, who is known for his work on other horror films such as Hard Candy which is a great film a little hard to watch in some aspects and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse You have no idea how hard it was to say that without laughing because Vampires do not sparkle and WTF. I still have no idea why people would watch sparkly vampires but to each their own and NO i have not seen the films at all. Slade's directing style in 30 Days of Night creates a chilling atmosphere that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Stalk Me: Twitter Youtube Instagram Tiktok Facebook Twitch

Peter and Phil chat through the 2007 vampire action horror movie 30 Days of Night directed by David Slade and starring Josh Hartnett and Melissa George. Why is it so dark? And cold? Who are these creatures? What's with The Stranger? Do we still want to become vampires if they're like the ones in this film? Other random things we touch on include Grand Theft Auto, the Pet Shop Boys, Disney theme parks and the Wilhelm Scream. Enjoy! Feeling down from the cold weather and the sun setting too early in these gloomy winder months? Join John, Rich and Sister G for a lengthy talk about a somewhat forgotten but good flick, 2007's 30 Days of Night, directed by David Slade. The three praise the perfect concept for a horror film; vampires descending upon a town during a month-long polar night. The gang also digs into the animalistic and terrifying depiction of vampires, which unfortunately was superseded by those vamps that sparkle in sunlight (oddly enough David Slade directed one of those movies, a crazy fact I did not know when recording!) Other takeaways, John and Rich may be a bit too obsessed with the performance of the great character actor Ben Foster, Josh Harnett is dreamy, and lastly tractors armed with chainsaw-like weapons rule. Lock your doors, board your windows and make sure you have a few cold ones for this fun chat.

This November, Bri and Leah are finally tackling THE vampire films of the 21st century. That's right, we're covering the Twilight Saga in honor of the tenth anniversary of the release of Breaking Dawn: Part II. Our Twilight Saga series will be three episodes. This week, we're talking about the filling in the Twilight sandwich: the middle films, New Moon (2009, dir. Chris Weitz) and Eclipse (2010, dir. David Slade). We talk about the non-existent "love triangle" and why thinking about Taylor Lautner makes Leah sad. This episode is marked explicit for some f-bombs, as usual.
