Until some very smart detective work finds him in the last place anyone would think to look!! We're trading coasts and heading west for our very first trip to Disneyland! That's right—after years of covering Walt Disney World, we're finally getting the chance to experience the park that started it all. So today, we're counting down the eight things we're most excited to see, do, eat, and feel when we set foot in the Happiest Place on Earth. We kick things off with what might be one of the biggest draws for Walt Disney World veterans—simpler planning. From more day-of dining options to Lightning Lane flexibility and shorter trips that still feel full of magic, Disneyland encourages a spontaneous, go-with-the-flow style that takes the stress out of scheduling. That leads us into the vibe of the parks themselves—Disney California Adventure's uniquely themed lands, like Radiator Springs and Avengers Campus, offer a laid-back SoCal energy that's perfect for park hopping in under a minute. We'll also chat about seasonal events and entertainment we're catching during our trip, like DCA's Food & Wine Festival and Season of the Force. Add in Fantasmic! and fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle, and we've got a lot of nighttime magic to look forward to.Of course, Disneyland's culture and character interactions are a big part of the appeal. The more relaxed pace, roaming characters, and local passholder vibe all offer a very different feel from the Florida parks. And when it comes to food, we're more than ready to dig into some legendary Disneyland snacks—from corn dogs and churros to beignets and high-quality quick service. We'll wrap things up with a look at classic and unique attractions, the charming scale and layout, and finally, the emotional pull of walking in Walt's footsteps at his original park.Join us as we count down the top reasons we're absolutely thrilled to head to Disneyland for the very first time!MEI-Travel – Expertise. This is such a cool park but it is often overlooked. We're here to spill all the secrets and share why this park is absolutely worth visiting and everything that makes it so cool! Here's what we'll cover: The colors of the Painted Desert and how they'll make you feel like you're in a Kung Fu movie The iconic Route 66 pullout, where you can literally stand on a piece of Americana and snap a pic with a vintage Studebaker The lowdown on Holbrook, Arizona, the ultimate Route 66 town, and why it's basically Radiator Springs in real life (plus, John's genius diner idea!) The Blue Mesa trail, where you can hike through a landscape of blue badlands and petrified wood (just watch the clock!) The secret to exploring the Jasper Forest off-the-beaten-path routes and why you need to grab a map from the visitor center Petrified Forest is a park that demands a little extra attention, but trust us, it's worth it. There really is something for everyone at this park! And hey, if you're feeling inspired to open that Route 66/Pulp Fiction/Cars diner, you know where to find us! Your task for today: Tell us what you are more excited about when you go to Petrified Forest? Is it the Route 66 experience or the petrified wood? http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's get a little spooky and head to Disney California Adventure to check out the Halloween Overlay known as Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on September 21, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Disney California Adventure Park to ride Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction by saying: Celebrate Luigi's favorite holiday at the honkin'est dance party in Radiator Screams! Guests must be 32” or taller to ride this attraction and the Thrill Level calls it a Thrill Ride that is Loud with Spinning. Before we join Luigi and Guido for some spooky fun, here are five fast facts about Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween 1. Starting in 2017, Cars Land at Disney California Adventure got a spooky makeover for the Halloween Season. Radiator Springs becomes Radiator Screams. Several of the attractions got a holiday overlay including Luigi's Rollickin Roadsters which becomes Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween. 2. Luigi's Casa Della Tires gets a halloween makeover including the leaning tower of tires which sports hubcaps and treads that look like eyes and mouths. 3. Despite the overlay, the attraction retains it's ride time of approximately 2 minutes. 4. As of this episode's audio recording which was done in 2023, one of five different songs played while the cards were in motion. These are all parodies of traditional Italian songs given a spooky edge. They include: Honkin' Haul-O-Ween, Luigi the Hero, Haul-O-Ween Italiano, Chop Shop of Carsoli and Terror-Antella. 5. Disney released all the songs from the attraction in 2018 on an album called: Happy Haul-O-Ween from Cars Land: Spooky Songs From Mater and Luigi. This album is available on most music streaming platforms. Let's ride Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween. John B. deHaas is along for the fun and after we ride we'll give you our thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween at Disney California Adventure. Buckle up and get ready for this Magical Moments all about Cars Land at The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim! On October 17, 2007, Disney announced a 5-year, $1.1 billion dollar renovation and expansion plan for Disney California Adventure. This included a major overhaul of several existing areas of the park and the addition of Cars Land, which was the first land in a Disney Park that's immersively themed entirely after a single intellectual property. On 12 acres, Disney built an exact replica of Radiator Springs, which is the fictional town in which most of the film's events take place. Cars Land opened on June 15, 2012 and when you're there, you honest and truly feel like you're in the actual movie. Do you remember the flashing traffic light where every third blink is slower? Well guess what? There's a flashing traffic light…and the third blink is slower! In addition to these fun facts, Scott talks in depth about the attractions - Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters, and Radiator Springs Racers. He also talks about all of the shops, places to eat, who and where you can meet characters from the Cars films, Hidden Mickeys, and so much more! How did Doc Hudson die? I mean The Fabulous Hudson Hornet was a racing legend who spent his final years as the crew chief for one of the greatest race cars of all time - Lightning McQueen - so how is it possible that he couldn't be repaired? It's not like Lightning would have spared any expense getting Doc the necessary care and parts that he needed. I just assumed after surviving his career ending crash that he could live through anything! But even with all of the resources at his disposal in Radiator Springs and beyond, he couldn't stay alive forever, and today I want to understand why. ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐‐

What inspired the little mining town of Rainbow Ridge? On this episode of Distory, we hold on (loosely?) to our hats and glasses as we embark on the slow-moving Rainbow Cavern's Mine Train, one of the predecessors of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Along the way, we point out some of our favorite sights in the painted desert, including a bizarre group of 7 Dwarfs, a teeny tiny cabin, dangerous rock formations, miniature pueblos, and, of course, the famous Rainbow Caverns themselves. A little news explains the Adventures by Disney around the world trek... the new virtual Christmas races (and new ways for Disney to cash in)... the expectation of Christmas party dates... and 2022's theme park attendance rankings (spoiler alert, Disney dominates... again) Finally, a fun conversation regarding Disney at night, especially some of Jenn's and Dave's favorite places to be in the parks when the sun goes down -- both with lots of neon, like Radiator Springs in Disneyland or Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom, or in dim lighting that sets the theme, like Adventureland or the Haunted Mansion area.

It's the merriest time of year at the Happiest Place on Earth, including here in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure! The Haul-idays are Here in Radiator Springs, and the cutest little town in Carburetor County has revved up the whimsy and fun for the occasion. Arizona has been the backdrop to many movies. From John Wayne westerns to a wacky adventure with Bill and Ted, our state is tinged with the sparkle of Hollywood. One of the romanticized spots in our state is Route 66 and it was the main inspiration for Disney-Pixar's "Cars." In this episode of Valley 101, we follow the sites that made Radiator Springs. It's time to chat about the golden age of Pixar. The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Cars (yes even Cars). Some absolutely amazing movies here, not so much with the games. All developed by THQ, these titles were all mediocre at best. Other than the very interesting and surprisingly fun Cars which had an amazing open world experience of Radiator Springs and some solid driving. Meanwhile The Incredibles couldn't wait 15 years and decided to make a video game sequel to the original movie, Rise of the Underminer with the John Ratzenburger reprising his role! Mike & Neil bring on friends of the show Kirsten and Ramon for a great time talking about growing up with some of the greatest animated movies ever made. In preparation for Lightyear, Arun and Patricia decide to bring PixMinis back where they look back on a Pixar short every day until July 12. In this episode, they look back on the 2014 Pixar short The Radiator Springs 500 1/2, which is part of the Cars Toons shorts. Radiator Springs is celebrating Stanley, the founder of the town, with Lightning impersonating as him. A group of Baja racers challenges Lightning to a race to prove that he's the fastest racecar in the world as well as showcasing Stanley as a great founder of Radiator Springs. Meanwhile, Mater impersonates as Stanley and gives a tour of Stanley's trail to the tourists. Arun and Patricia weren't impressed with any of the Cars Toons shorts. Is this a similar situation or will it be a decent watch? Listen and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support
