Noon has been struck down by the man flu (it's not covid, dw) so Zac recruited friend, confidant, and member of our inner sanctum Holly to chat about the news this week. Holly is, amongst other things, the co-host of Every Second Weekend, a podcast she makes with her dad where they read Agatha Christie books, and the co-host of Zac's life. Entree: NDIS independent assessments look like they're going to go ahead unfortunately. UFU: We talk about the federal budget, and why it's a woozle-wozzle that no one should pay attention to, and how JobMaker went (spoiler: it went badly). SPOTW: This week it's a multi-way tie - Zac collected a few front page articles about the Budget and Holly deploys her expertise as a graphic designer to make fun of them Potluck: Lia called in to discuss consent education resources that are actually useful, unlike the Milkshake video. First Nations: CW for discussion of deaths in custody and using the names of Indigenous people who have passed. If you want to skip it, the story runs from 47:00-59:00. Zac gives an update on the inquiry into the death of Wayne Fellla Morrison. Positivity Corner: a rare actually good positivity corner! Celeste Liddle is running as the Greens candidate for Cooper. And you'll just have to listen to the end of the show for our Pupdate! Support the show financially: www.patreon.com/AuspolSnackpod
This week on Snackpod we're serving you... Neopaganism: International Worker's Day Fashy Australia: CW for mention of r*pe from 3:15 - 10:20 Peter Dutton sues Shane Bazzi, a refugee activist, for defamation. Support Shane's gofundme: https://chuffed.org/project/the-people-v-peter-dutton-legal-fund SPOTW: Craig Kelly is booted from Facebook and now is busy embarrassing himself on twitter, and we had some great OC in the group about it. Blurst Take: Andrew Laming has been upgraded from "besieged" to "scandal-plagued", been diagnosed with ADHD, and hung up on a journalist. First Nations: CW for the names and description of First Nations people who have died from 35:00 - 42:40. There have been developments in the case of Ms Dhu, the Wayne Fella Morrison inquiry, and there have been two more deaths in custody. Positivity Corner: victims of the Stolen Generations in the NT are are beginning a class action for compensation, a Dan Murphy's that was planned on the border of three dry Indigenous communities has been scrapped, and Zac was inspired by some traditional fire management practitioners. Potluck: We have a small correction about something we never meant to say, and another, much larger correction (and excellent potluck) about the legal marijuana situation in Australia, which apparently is completely not what Noon said last week! UFU: Crown Casino has been hit with a tiny fine and a letter of censure from the Victorian gambling regulator, and is up to their eyeballs in other inquiries into their many alleged crimes. Coronas: Zac takes us through the situation with coronavirus in India and the Australian government dealing with it in a pretty terrible / racist way. We have a new Business sting! Please leave us a review! And rate us! Please!!!! Please we want reviews!!!!!!!! I'm literally begging you. And you'll just have to listen to the end for our Pupdate! If the names Dooley, Fringe Guy, Jimmy Heaters, or the Rally King mean anything to you, then buckle up. The Wings since we last spoke - Detroit has been hot and then cooler since our last episode. We’ll cover the goings-on in detail Youth Gone Wild - The kids are stepping up for each other and that’s partially good (team building!) and partially bad (injuries/suspensions). We’ll talk through our feelings about this development. Around the League - Taking a look at the soon-to-be 31 other teams in the NHL, we’ll dedicate at least a little bit of time to those jerks. Positivity Corner - It’s key to keep making sure we do this, even if we’re already feeling pretty positive. Reader Questions - You ask the most-pressing questions on your minds and we’ll blow those minds with our great answers. My favorite part of every podcast. Wrapping Up/Looking Ahead - We’ll tell you how many games the Wings will win in the coming days. Guaranteed to satisfy or your money back. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to the latest WIIM Radio mailbag! The plan is to record the new episode late tonight and have it ready for your ears and rears tomorrow morning. We have quite a bit to talk about since our last episode and getting ready for the season to start. Here’s the rundown: The Captain Isn’t Returning - Henrik Zetterberg’s back finally refused to carry the Wings any more and it’s now appropriate to eulogize his fantastic career. We’ll talk what he meant to us and going forward. The Captain is Returning - Steve Yzerman stepped down as Tampa’s GM and hoo boy is there some smoke there in terms of his future with Detroit. Let’s get excited! The Turn Re: Captain - How long before Dylan Larkin gets the C? What’s going on with the youth movement? How’s the team looking so far? We’ll cover the actual team we expect to see on the ice for 2018-19. Leading the Way out of Town - We’ll take a quick look around the league at the stories that interest us... like Erik Karlsson’s trade or the ugly Jets jerseys recently released. Whatever goes! Positivity Corner - We’re going to need this a lot this season; might as well start early. Reader Questions - Everybody’s favorite part, where you ask questions in the comments that you want the best answers to and then I give them (while other people talk too). If we haven’t covered your question already in the episode, we’ll get to it here. Go ahead and get your questions in before too late tonight and look forward to the new episode dropping in the morning. Thanks and LGRW! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to the latest WIIM Radio mailbag. We’ve had a few developments since the last time we saw you, so we’ll jump right into the topics we have on hand for our recording this evening: The Larkin Deal - Our wonderful home-grown boy signed a pretty good deal to keep him in the fold for the next five years. We’ll go over this from every angle and make sure we haven’t left any stones unturned in terms of what it means for the kid going forward. The Transition - This will naturally lead us to the talk about Larkin as the next captain and what that means for the current one amid talks that he’s had a rough summer with his back problems. The Sunset - While we’re at it, Zetterberg isn’t the only old standard who’s facing the end. We’ll go over Nik Kronwall’s twilight and try to place him properly in Red Wings lore. Top 25 Under 25 - Moving in a totally different direction, we’ve got our T25U25 series running and will go over the bright young stars dawning in our Red Wings galaxy. The Lineup - How are things shaking out now that all the signings are done and the team is getting ready to go into camp while having to make a bit of cap room to make it work. Positivity Corner - Here we’ll take a break to talk about what makes us happy because it’s tradition and I like it. Reader Questions - The real meat of this post: you ask questions for us to answer and we’ll give you the very best responses. Ask away! We’ll be recording late tonight with the plan for the episode to be out in the morning. Get those questions in and LGRW! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Join JJ, Mike, and me as we break down the latest in all things Red Wings. First we talked about some things that happened a little while ago now, but since we last recorded. We talk about the free agent signings and the contracts for Athanasiou and Mantha. Then we discussed Jeff Blashill’s recent comments regarding ties and veterans, and what we think will be the case going forward. Of course we shared our thoughts on Dylan Larkin’s inevitable contract extension. How long will it be, how long should it be? We talked about Chris Chelios leaving and becoming a team ambassador for the Blackhawks and why JJ hates that last part. We went around the league and each talked about the NHL storyline we are most interested in at the moment. Then we finished out with Positivity Corner and the reader questions! You can listen via the embedded player above or download the episode directly from our Blogtalk Radio page. You can also find us on iTunes or Google Podcasts by searching for Winging It In Motown. Welcome to another WIIM Radio mailbag! We’ll be recording a new episode tonight with the plan of having it out tomorrow morning for your listening pleasure just prior to the Calgary game as the Wings continue their Western Canada road trip. Here’s a list of topics we’ll get into: The Wings’ Play of Late - We kinda missed the bulk of the big losing streak and the Wings have looked pretty decent coming out of that. We’ll go over the reasons and thoughts behind it. The Return of AA - Yay! We don’t have to guess anymore about when the guy’s going to re-sign and how the team will make room. Instead we’ll talk about how he’s fitting into the lineup. Blashill’s Blender - The Wings’ coach has made waves lately talking about retiring the line blender only to have that last less than a game and now not even living up to his promise of starting games with consistent lines. Is it really all bad though? Around the League - A three-team blockbuster just went down and it impacts our division. Who won the Duchene deal? Elsewhere, what are the surprise teams a month into the NHL season? Positivity Corner - We’ll take a break to be nice about stuff. Reader Questions - Your favorite section and mine.. you ask us the great questions we’re used to and we’ll give you the stellar answers you’ve come to expect. The burrito questions last time were good. I expect similar quality. Looking ahead - The Wings will be finishing up in Calgary and then finish the month with 8 of 9 games at home. We’ll gaze into our crystal ball and let you know how things will play out. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Welcome to the latest edition of WIIM Radio! It’s been a bit since we last recorded our expansion draft draft spectacular and now we’ve got the opening of free agency to discuss. For this run, I’m joined by Jeff, Peter and Prashanth. Here’s what we got up to: The State of the Wings - We’re through the entry draft and the opening of free agency. We go over where everybody’s head is at in terms of what the Wings have been doing. Up next we moved on to Tatar and Athanasiou as the big-name unsigned RFAs. The Future of the Wings - We mostly discuss the strategy of hope (it’s not a strategy). Should the Wings put all their eggs in the long term basket and just pull the chute on trying to win games in the short run or is this “middle-road” something worthwhile? Around the League - Connor McDavid left a lot of potential money on the table on his way to having a very-rich contract as a 20-year old and we have conflicted feelings about that. Is it possible to contend taking so much of the cap that your team is forced not to overpay other people? Positivity Corner - We remind you that things are altogether pretty awesome in our world, especially the things we say are great. Reader Questions - You asked and we answered all your most-pressing questions from the mailbag. Always my favorite part. You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page. For a nominal fee, I’ll etch a transcription in cuneiform onto stone tablets and send it to you via Hobby Lobby’s smuggling ring. As always, WIIM Radio is rated R for language and tax evasion. Welcome to the newest edition of WIIM Radio! This time around we’ve got Kyle, Jeff, and Peter joined by yours truly. We talked all things Wings and other unimportant hockey stuff. Here’s the rundown: The Wings are winning recently, but with plenty of room to improve on the process by which their earning those points. We talk about the forwards, the defense, and the system. The Henrik Zetterberg line has been exceptional for the Wings lately. How much of that is due to Hank being re-energized and how much is a credit to Tomas Tatar and Anthony Mantha?Positivity Corner: We love you all and want you to know it. Our patented Positivity Corner is guaranteed to make you feel both warm AND fuzzy.Around the League - The Vegas Golden Knights had a big thing where they announced their name... and then we found out that they were denied the trademark request because it was already taken. Hilarious stuff.Reader Questions: You wonderful question-askers. I want to give you all a big ol’ smooch on your foreheads for driving my favorite part of the show every week. Hey, we WIIM Radioed for you and now you’ll get a chance to listen on the way to visit your weird uncle and that aunt who wants to grill everybody on who they voted for. We have me, Graham, Kyle, and Mike on to talk all things Wings. Here’s the rundown: The Red Wings - The team is struggling in fall facets of the game and will go into Wednesday’s battle against Buffalo trying to climb out of the Atlantic basement. How close to their record are the Wings playing? The Coaching - With the way the Wings have been going/making various mistakes, some of it has to fall on the coaching. How hot should Jeff Blashill’s seat be right now? All-Star Voting & The John Scott Rule - The league submitted rules to try to keep the John Scott thing at bay, but left a few holes in the concept. No matter what, the voting will probably be dumb. Still. #VoteOtt Leaguewide Observations - The Vegas Golden Knights are here! Who cares? Everybody! Also, it’s not exactly OUR league, but we’ll be sharing a house with the Pistons, as announced on Tuesday. Positivity Corner - We take a quick break from the constant bellyaching to remind people that we’re happy optimists (nah just kidding, this isn’t a dour episode, but Positivity Corner rules). Reader Questions - Not a ton of questions in the mailbag today, but they were really good ones, so great job everybody on saving us from the prospect of having a bad mailbag! You can listen via the embedded player above or download from our Blogtalk Radio page. You should also be able to get it on iTunes or Google Podcasts, but this is a cold and unfeeling world, so no promises. WIIM Radio is rated R for language and undercooked stuffing.
