The Chris Top Program

It all started around the Thanksgiving table at my parent's house in 2021. The big plan was to propose to Sally when it was my turn to tell everyone why I was thankful. It marked our fourth year together during the Holidays listening to Uncle Joe tell everyone he was saved from a horrible end when Aunt June left him for the Quickie-Mart attendant. And Mom shared how blessed she was to be around for another season after having that hairy mole removed, even though she's in perfect health. It was tradition to let all the ladies go first, and my brother would make the same lame joke each year directed at me, "Ladies first, looks like you're up, Walter." He'd then awkwardly cackle alone for ten whole seconds before we took turns around the table. My older sister Kathleen kicked things off by talking about her newest addition to the family. It's not what you think; she's obsessed with cats even though her husband Phil is allergic. The poor guy sits around all day sneezing and rubbing his eyes, and Kathleen keeps bringing home more kittens. I stopped going to her house because you can imagine the chaos and mix of odors floating around. The place always smelled like gingerbread and urine every November and December. Each year she insists on dressing the felines up on special days. They all had tiny skeleton shirts for Halloween, and for Christmas, they'll be sporting ugly sweaters that Kathleen happened to bring on Thanksgiving to pass around for everyone to examine. Dad finally cut off my sister about ten minutes into the fashion show to ask Sally to speak. My girlfriend stood up to address the audience as I fiddled with the engagement ring inside my pocket. Sally took a deep breath and said, "I've grown to adore all of you except Walter." The crowd laughed, and she continued, "Yeah, right, a joke. Except I'm not joking. I mean, it would be great if I was, I wish I were kidding around, but I'm not. You see, I was most in love with Walt the first month we were together. It's been downhill ever since. I've tried to work up enough courage to leave him the last two years because I convinced myself things would get better the first two years we were together. After drinking too much spiked eggnog this evening, the courage finally surfaced. Now is as good a time as any to break the news. Trying my best to convince Sally that it was not the best time or place for this discussion was hopeless. She had something to say, and it all had to come out, so she went on, "You, Walter are a terrible person. It didn't take long to figure out you only care about yourself." Sally slammed her drink and had more to say, "I can't even count the number of times you stood me up so you could do your silly online gaming stuff with your buddies you've never even met. You embarrass me when we eat out because you upset the server on purpose every time so that you can justify not tipping. Your sister's house smells like a dead animal, but she is still your sister. It wouldn't kill you to visit her once a year. And your brother, well, I can't blame you for not going to see him; he's also a jerk. Remember the Black Friday sale two years ago, Walter? I do; I'll never forget it. You ended up in a fistfight with that poor old woman over a Nintendo she wanted for her grandson."I spoke up and said, "Alright, let me stop you there. It was a Playstation, and..." Sally cut me off and continued to throw verbal punches, "I don't care what it was! By the way, that old woman would have kicked you around real good if she hadn't tripped over the random car seat on the floor. She had you up until she fell. Having to work with you every day right next to your cubicle is excruciating. You never bring the donuts when it's your turn, and you are always so mean to Stuart around the corner. Is it because he has thick glasses? Are you still in the sixth grade? I'm simply amazed at how much of my life I have wasted on you—shame on me."Sally's phone beeped; she looked at it and touched the screen as she struggled to push her chair under the table. "My Uber is here. Look, I guess I'm thankful it's over now, Walt." On her way out, she says, "You aren't very good-looking, you know. You think you are, but you're a little chunky." Sally paused to throw up on the potted Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree and yelled, "See you at work on Monday." Immediately Uncle Joe asked Kathleen to pass the sweet potatoes as Dad said, "She's right, you know. You aren't very nice, Walt." I found myself alone on the deck after dinner in the cold. Phil joined me after a few minutes. It was a surprise because we'd never exchanged more than a couple of words once a year at Thanksgiving. "You are an asshole, Walt.""Thanks, Phil. I appreciate the positive reinforcement." "I didn't step outside to sugarcoat things. I'm here to give you a little honesty.""Right, Phil, because there is absolutely a shortage of honesty this evening," I said sarcastically. "I know you make fun of me, Walter. I've overheard your remarks about your sister and her cat obsession. You think I'm crazy for putting up with her. The truth is, I deal with it because I love her. The idea is to give more in a relationship than we take. I'm always my happiest whenever Kathleen is happy. She can bring ten more cats home as long as it fills her with joy. I didn't always think that way, but once I figured it out, my whole life fell into place. It's like the central theme in all of those corny Holiday movies. 'Keep Christmas in your heart all year long,' or something like that. If you apply that principle to your life, you may discover happiness. You may or may not win the girl back, but you'll be a better person." I listened to Phil talk on and on about being kind and embracing the joy of giving. He sounded more and more like a Hallmark movie with each sentence. Then it dawned on me. He was explaining what I had to do to win over Sally. I looked at Phil and said, "You are a genius. I'll start doing nice things at work in front of Sally. Once she realizes I've changed, she'll be back in my arms in no time." "No, Walter, that's not what I'm saying. But if your plan makes you pleasant at work, at least that's a start. It's not always easy to do the right thing. Sometimes at home, I'll take a bottle of rum into the bathroom and take a few shots to clear my head.""Why do you go to the bathroom?" I asked."The bathroom downstairs is the only room in the house the cats aren't allowed. I can knock back a few without sneezing liquor out of my nose." We both laughed. It was the first time I'd connected with anyone in years. After taking everything, Phil said to heart; I decided to put my plan into motion at work first thing. On the way in, I stopped for donuts. I ordered two dozen daily ahead of time to make up for all the days I missed. Everyone was a little shocked at first, but soon I got high fives from my coworkers when I walked in the door. Stuart became my regular lunch date. He was hesitant at first because he figured I would ambush him over tacos with some joke about how he looked like Scrat from Ice Age. It turns out Stuart had some mad skills in Call Of Duty, so Wednesday night became our game night. He stood up for me when I volunteered to play Santa at the office party, and no one else wanted me to do it. I even convinced everyone to chip in and donate to the local soup kitchen instead of exchanging gifts. I was winning everyone over at work except for Sally. She barely looked at me. My portrayal of the jolly fat man was on point. I have to say; I was feeling pretty good about everything for once. The party was going great until Sally showed up with her date. It was some guy she met in the elevator who worked two floors above us. They were holding hands and being overly flirtatious the entire time. It drove me nuts. As soon as Mr. Marvelous took a potty break, I confronted Sally. "It didn't take you very long, did it?""Walter, I'm happy. I've been meaning to speak with you.""You have more to say? I think you said enough over Thanksgiving.""No, Walter, you need to stop." "Stop what?" I asked."Stop trying to impress or win me back or whatever it is you are trying to do. I've moved on, and the best thing you can do is let me go." Sally walked away, and I felt emptier than ever. A few days later, I found myself at Kathleen's house. After visiting with my sister, I decided to sneak off with Phil to his favorite spot, the downstairs bathroom. Once I grabbed the bottle of rum from the kitchen, I asked Phil to follow me. We were a little cramped. I sat on the sink, and Phil took a seat on the toilet. I shook my head and explained to Phil that his plan didn't work. He reminded me that he only planted a seed of direction and never told me to go after Sally. "Walter, let me ask you a question.""I'm all ears, Phil.""Why did you come to our home today?" "I missed my sister. I was a little depressed and wanted to be around family.""That sounds nothing like the Walt, I know. Walter, how did it make you feel doing all those nice things at work?""Better than I've felt ever, I guess.""Then stop pretending to be the good guy at work to impress Sally. Be that man everywhere." We took a drink...*Read the rest at SomeOfItsTrue.net

Welcome to the ninja please podcast, where 4 Ninjas Yuki The Golden Kurama aka Starman aka Fox Blanc, along with Black, Makyo-Metal & Silver Scarlet give their hot take on everything, pop, blerd, comic and weird. This week was an exciting and confusing week, and that just makes for great content.  Corona Virus panic is at an all-time high, KFC is selling doughnut chicken sandwiches, and someone quite is possibly patenting Ramen Seasoning with all the Sodium and MGS a future hypertension patient could ask for. Combine that with waifu vampires and its all bad.  We start this week off by welcoming Black back to the show and now the Ninja Quartet is ready to Pod. Makyo and Starman watched TUSK this week. An A24 indie film written and directed by Kevin Smith about a podcaster who meets an unfortunate fate trying to find good content.  (00:16:34) Black asks us to clarify our thoughts on a B2TF reboot.  Black also reports that Judge Judy is ending after 25 seasons.  Henry Cavil isn’t done with superman, and will not be playing Wolverine.  We also ask who is Christian Bale playing in the MCU film Thor: Love and Thunder?  Who should Play Knuckles in Sonic 2?  Who needs a Quickie Mart?    (00:38:00) Starman tells the gang about KonoSuba (season 2 streaming on Crunchyroll). Aqua is useless but hey… fan service.. and what exactly is fan service?  Black gives DC’s animated series Harley Quin a stamp of approval.  Starman asks Black about his thoughts on Didio’s step down from DC.  (00:49:00)  X Men was rebooted again by Marvel, but this time around things seemed to be more permanent. House of X and Power of X have been out for a few months and its a HIT and is a great comic. However…. Liberties were given and agendas were served, and we feel this may be to the detriment of one of our most beloved mutants. stay tuned.  (00:58:42)  Mr. Robot famed actor Rami Malek is rumored to be eyed Silver Surfer in an unknown capacity. but we love silver surfer and just want him to come to life. This takes the Ninjas back to a Marvel Discussion we just can’t stay away from. & The Last of Us is being Greenlit at HBO, we discuss who we would like to see in this series. Makyo being the Video game expert we refer to his expertise.  (01:12:50) The long-awaited release of Castlevania season 3 is finally over. on Thursday 3/5 Castlevania hit Netflix and we could not wait to watch it. At the time of this pod’s recording, only Starman has finished the season, but do not fret,  NO Spoilers are given. However, our great friend of the show Capt calls in to discuss the parallels between the series and the video game, we also discuss some vampire lore. you do not want to miss this segment. (01:49:00)  wit the success of Sonic and Castlevania, Black asks the crew our stance on anime and video game adaptations. Black also goes on to ask Makyo will marvel fall off and is DC descending towards an eventual splat?  DC gets love in this segment and we ask some really great questions.  (02:14:00) Toonami was a pioneer in America's mainstream introduction to Anime as a whole. This is a fact. we take this time to look back at Gundam wing and how it birthed Adult Swim (02:26:25) The Magicians is being canceled by Syfy after 5 seasons. the show is currently on its final season due to financial obligations  (02:33:58)  RIP to James Lipton Take Waititi is slated to produce 2 charlie and the chocolate factory films for Netflix  Spike Lee was booted from MSG  whatever happened to Anthrax?  Silver Pegs the question what fictional universe do we think would work politically and socially?  follow us on social media @Ninjapleasepod original music produced by Starman  Logo by Lord Black #Marvel #DC #Comics # SYFY #Themagicians #DOctorwho #Adultswim #Gundam #DBZ #Tusk #Walrus #MSG #Castlevania #Netflix #belmont #waifu #fanservice #xmen #Polygamy #lgbtq #anime #CN #toonami #HBO #HULU #Amazonprime #projectbluebook #comedy #CC #creepyjoe #simpsons #Disney+

There is a big difference between allowing someone to say “thank you” and asking or expecting handouts. I am still your host Paul Markel, and I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to spend just a little bit of time with me, maybe 10 minutes or so and think about well productivity and positivity and motivation and so on and so forth It's the morning mindset show. If you've been with us for a while, you may remember an episode that I did about letting people thank you. - A long time ago, when I was a very new police officer, I hadn't even finished the police academy yet. I was doing my ride-along time with the chief of police and one of the things one of the pieces of advice that he gave me is he said. Let people thank you we're talking about and if you remember the episode was talking about a cup of coffee how the chief would go into the Kwik-E-Mart or whatever. The place was called the Stop-and-Go or whatever and he would pour a cup of coffee and he'd walk up to the counter and he'd set it on there and he'd set a dollar down on the counter and the lady would say "Sorry, register's broken. Can't take your money. Catch me later" or what have you. - Or something similar to that and he with a dollar back in his pocket and he said, "You know people will tell you, as you become a police officer, the academy they talk about morals and gifts and so forth and whether or not you know, they'll tell you never allow take anything for free or never take a discount because if you do it's a violation of the code and so forth." He said "That's nice on paper, but the fact the matter is you will encounter people like the woman who runs the Kwik-E-Mart that want to thank you. They want to say thanks to you somehow, and they want to thank you in their own way." Now you wouldn't want them buying you presents, right? - You don't want them to give you gifts, that would be silly. But how can they thank you? He said "That cup of coffee is a thank you. That is a way of them telling me 'thank you'." He says "Now I could follow the letter of the law or I could be, you know, a hard-ass and I could say 'Oh no, you will take my money. I will not accept anything free', you know or whatever." He said "I could do that, but what did I just do? I just heard that person's feelings. I just told them that their thanks weren't good enough, and whether you put it in those words or not, what you do if you hurt their feelings and you would alienate them." - You just made them, if not an enemy, at least somebody that doesn't care or is going to stop caring. The way the chief put it to me, he said "How do you think we find out what's going on? We're a very tiny, small Police Department. We can't be everywhere all the time. Just how do you think we find out who it is that's been hanging out behind the alleys who all of a sudden is flush with cash because they stole stuff and pawned it? You know, just how do we find that out? You should we find it out because the locals, the citizens, the business owners, they tell us 'Hey, you know, I know you guys are having a string of car burglaries or break-ins and these four teenagers have been hanging out in the Municipal parking lot" or what have you. - He said "That's how you find things out. You've got enough enemies on your job, you don't need to create enemies by hurting people's feelings on purpose." So that was the 'Let people thank you' part of the story. Here is the problem that we run into, or at least that I see with people who are either veterans or police officers or public servants or this or that or what have you when it comes to be expected. For instance my chief, he never walked into the Quickie Mart with no money, just assuming that he was going to get the coffee for free. - Later on, in my career, I was in a similar situation where I would go into a local restaurant where you know, I worked and the owner of being like, "Oh it's on the house today" or whatever. I say "Look I can't just take free meals all the time, it's going to look bad." She's like "Well, I'm the owner and I can charge whatever I want" and I said, "Alright, well charge me whatever you want." She said it's a dollar, or two dollars or whatever, but I didn't go in there expecting a handout. I didn't go in there expecting something for free. There is a difference between allowing people to express their thanks to you, and expecting a handout, expecting a discount. - Part of the problem or part of the impetus for this in the United States of America at least as far as public servants and Veterans and all that goes back to 9/11, you know after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 all of a sudden police officers and firefighters and emergency responders and military personnel, all of a sudden they were good people, all of a sudden we cared about them. As a nation up to that point most people were pretty much, you know, lukewarm to police officers or firefighters or first responders or whatever, and so what did we as a nation do businesses big and small car dealerships and restaurants and Disney World and all these other businesses, started doing Special bonuses and discounts for firefighters and emergency personnel and Veterans and active duty military. - All this because they wanted to say thank you, that was their way of saying thank you. Of course, it's a marketing tool too, don't get me wrong. I understand that but then we developed a generation who believed a generation of first responders, firemen, veterans and so forth that believe that because of their status then they were owed. They get discounts and free stuff and so forth, and rather than waiting and I see this all the time, and it really irks me, rather than waiting for someone to offer a discount or what have you they go in they go into the situation expecting it asking for it almost demanding it. - Actually, I've heard people demand it. A good friend of mine used to work at casinos, and he worked in nightclubs and so forth and he would tell me stories about these early twenty-somethings, fresh out of basic training. Sailors and Airmen and so forth, showing up at the club demanding their servicemen's discount to get in, not asking if there was one, but expecting it. Because they grew up or they've been educated to believe that because now they do a certain job. Then things should be cheap or free for them. - Ladies and gentlemen, on one hand, you need to whatever profession you're in, whatever you do. You need to allow people to thank you when people want to thank you. You need to learn to be gracious and you need to accept it, and it's just as good or just as important to be able to be a gracious person and receive thanks or to appreciate things as it is to give thanks, I believe but there's also, you know, another side of that coin and that is when people go out expecting or demanding discounts and freebies and handouts. - There's a big difference between Thanks & Handouts, and we need to understand that and you know, maybe you're listening. You're like "Paul I get it, I totally get it, I understand that." Yeah, but I bet you there's somebody in your life and some of that your encounter you're going to encounter maybe this week or next week or next month who doesn't quite get that and it makes it makes it look. Looks bad on all of us, whether you're a police officer or fireman, veteran, you know a current military member, whatever. - It makes you look bad when people that are in the same boat or on the same team as you go out demanding free stuff for demanding discounts from businesses because they believe that they're owed that it's a slippery slope and I thought I would address it because I see it all the time and I've been there done that and gotten the T-shirt. Alright, ladies and gentlemen, that's all I've got for you today, and I thank you for being a part of the morning mindset audience. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of July 21, 2010 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. This week's show commentary focused on the utterly ridiculous mini-drama of the forced resignation of USDA worker Shirley Sherrod after false accusations of racism during an old NAACP speech via the right-wing news media (and how pitifully the Obama Administration, national NAACP and other news outlets fell for it without doing their own research), news of podcasts currently making up 1/2 of the 'net radio listening audience, not being able to trademark different names for weed/pot/marijuana in the United States and some other things here and there. Besides this week's brand new Black Agenda Report segment on the FuseBox Radio Broadcast, we also have a special 40 min. interview segment from Dr. Jared Ball & the "Jazz & Justice" Show from WPFW 89.3 FM in Washington, DC (gained via VoxUnion.com).
