Our final episode in February dedicated to afrocentric hip-hop is a review of the debut album Holy Intellect from group Poor Righteous Teachers, released in 1990. Similar to Brand Nubian, PRT members Culture Freedom, Father Shaheed and front man Wise Intelligent put the teachings of the 5% nation at the forefront of their music while they kick rapid-paced rhymes over producer Tony D's boom bap beats. https://www.instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igsh=cTBzNnFhenRkN3Nl&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=hu50Ix https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8kWF5xzxPl1&_r=1

prt performed at 50 years of hip hop celebration in trenton. Poor Righteous Teachers was a hip hop group from Trenton, New Jersey, founded in 1989.[1] Often referred to as PRT by its fans, Poor Righteous Teachers was known as a socially and politically conscious hip hop group, with musical content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Wise Intelligent, as the lead MC, was the most visible and well known member of the group. Culture Freedom provided vocals and production, and Father Shaheed served as a DJ and producer. About.com ranked the group's lead MC, Wise Intelligent, number five on its list of the 10 Most Underrated Rappers, calling him "one of the most creative MCs of our time."[2] PRT debuted in 1989 with the release of the single "Time to Say Peace" b/w "Butt Naked Booty Bless." The trio released its first album, Holy Intellect, in 1990,[3] amid a number of similarly pro-Black albums such as Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, X-Clan's To the East, Blackwards, and Brand Nubian's One for All. While not as commercially successful as these albums, Holy Intellect received critical acclaim and spawned the group's only major radio hit, "Rock Dis Funky Joint." PRT returned in 1991 with its second album, Pure Poverty.[3] The album was not as commercially successful as its debut, and was not as acclaimed. The lead single "Shakiyla (JRH)", became a minor rap hit that year. The group's third, and possibly most successful release to date, Black Business, was released in 1993.[3] Sales were once again limited, but the album was a critical success. The album's lead single, "Nobody Move", received little radio airplay. After a three-year hiatus, PRT returned as a group in 1996 with its fourth album, The New World Order.[3] Released in a new Hip Hop era, the album received little attention, failing to reach the Billboard 200 album chart. The album's lead single, "Word Iz Life", was barely able to reach the Hot Rap Singles chart, peaking at the chart's lowest position, #50. Despite the lack of significant attention, the album, like its past releases, received significant acclaim. In 2001, Poor Righteous Teachers dropped the rare underground release Declaration of Independence.[3] In 2006, Cha-Ching Records released Rare & Unreleased, a compilation of rare Poor Righteous Teachers songs and remixes.[4][5] PRT had a short feud with rapper YZ over reels of tapes that YZ would not give back to their owner, PRT.[6] Father Shaheed died on May 26, 2014, from a motorcycle accident.[7] References[edit] ^ Huey, Steve. Biography of Poor Righteous Teachers at AllMusic. This week's guest, Jason Harrison, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who co-owns Present Tense Fitness (PTF). Harrison, his wife Susan, and yoga instructor Anna Shearer train clients out of their fitness studio that located in Dayton, Ohio's Oregon District. The Oregon District (OD) - a small stretch of boutiques, restaurants and bars - made national headlines in August 2019 after becoming a target of an active shooter. Dayton Police officers responded within moments, but nine Daytonians lost their lives before the shooter was fatally shot. Part of Dayton moving forward included a concert organized by Dave Chappelle that featured performances by Stevie Wonder, Kanye West and his Sunday Service Choir and (I believe) nearby Springfield native John Legend. Harrison actually addressed a crowd at a vigil, and eventually started writing op-eds about local race relations, policy-making and politicians for the local paper. Harrison was invited onto IAP to get his opinion on how him and his OD neighbors are getting along 1 1/2 years later. For the opening topics... IAP had to ask about how some find themselves rooting for Snowfall's lead character "Franklin Saint" (Damson Idris). Saint, a creation of late director John Singleton, is loosely based on legendary Los Angeles cocaine trafficker "Freeway" Ricky Ross. Also, a bit of a related matter had to be discussed in Poor Righteous Teachers' rapper Wise Intelligent actually having to defend his Instagram post about his day-to-day business dealings classifying him as a "man" versus the streets-accepted "hustler." --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/its-always-personal/support

This is a flashback episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the weeks of July 25 & August 1, 2018 (originally broadcast on the Week of March 30, 2011) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary during that week touched base on updates with the after effects of the earthquake + tsunami in Japan, the recent U.N. intervention in Libya news, the possible upcoming U.S. government shutdown due to budget issues and why it's just ridiculous how politicians are dragging this along, the re-birth of the "Birther" fake controversy with President Barack Obama and some other diverse topics here and there. We also had a great interview with Forbes magazine staff writer Zack O'Malley Greenburg about the creative inspiration, work & drama behind his latest book, "Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went From Street Corner to Corner Office". Book Summary: Empire State of Mind tells the story behind Jay-Z’s rise to the top as told by the people who lived it with him–from classmates at Brooklyn’s George Westinghouse High School; to the childhood friend who got him into the drug trade; to the DJ who convinced him to stop dealing and focus on music. This book explains just how Jay-Z propelled himself from the bleak streets of Brooklyn to the heights of the business world. Zack O’Malley Greenburg draws on his one-on-one interviews with hip-hop luminaries such as DJ Clark Kent, Questlove of The Roots, Damon Dash, Fred “Fab 5 Freddy” Brathwaite, MC Serch; NBA stars Jamal Crawford and Sebastian Telfair; and recording industry executives including Craig Kallman, CEO of Atlantic Records, to paint a tantalizing portrait of a very private mogul. Greenburg also reveals new information on Jay-Z’s various business dealings, such as: * The feature movie about Jay-Z and his first basketball team that was filmed by Fab 5 Freddy in 2003 but never released. * The Jay-Z branded Jeep that was scrapped just before going into production. * The real story behind his association with Armand de Brignac champagne. * The financial ramifications of his marriage to Beyonce. _________ Official FuseBox Radio Broadcast Website: http://www.FuseBoxRadio.com Official FuseBox Radio Broadcast Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/FuseBoxRadioShow FuseBox Radio Playlist for the Weeks of July 25 & August 1, 2018 [originally broadcast on March 30, 2011] Top Spins (Music Still Lasting in Rotation/Music Played Live on Air Each Week/As Well As Music Requested By The Listeners) 1. BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 124! Don’t fret folks, we haven’t left! As we warned throughout the month of June, it was gonna be a tough July. DJ Jon Doe moved at the end of June / early July, and he’s been working fast and furious to get the family settled at the new place and get V4 of Dirty Blanket Studios up and running. Alas - he’s not QUITE there yet - so we hollered at The Wrecking Crew All Stars, who hold down WREK FM GA Tech Radio on Thursdays from 9-11pm with Techniques Radio. Jon was a guest DJ a few weeks ago and we have the full show, which includes an in-studio interview with Jarren Benton AND J57! This will tide you over until next week when Doe and Meeks return! BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 100! It’s a celebration b*tches! This weeks episode is our 2 year anniversary on top of being the 100th mix show episode, which means we HAD to do something special. 5th Beatle of Southern Vangard, KOOP, and DJ Jon Doe conspired by the fire over the past month and came up with the idea to have an ALL EXCLUSIVE EVERYTHING show. What’s that mean, you ask? It means that EVERY SINGLE joint in this weeks mix has not seen the light of day until NOW. We won’t rattle them off here, you can check the tracklist in the show description - but let’s put it like this - we pulled off something marvelous. If that wasn’t enough - Supastition, J57 and DJ Pocket came by to hang out with us during the show, and we even convinced Supa, J57 & Meeks to drop a few bars over exclusive beats from D.R.U.G.S. This is a flashback episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the week of April 1, 2015 (due to it just being another VERY hectic week with DJ + press events and more for the radio show...plus with Jay-Z making moves in the streaming angle of the music business with TIDAL as of late, this seemed to be a quality show to pull out of the archives; originally broadcast on weeks of March 30 & April 6, 2011) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary during that week focused on the latest updates with the after effects of the earthquake + tsunami in Japan, the recent U.N. intervention in Libya news, the possible upcoming U.S. government shutdown due to budget issues and why it's just ridiculous how politicians are dragging this along, the re-birth of the "Birther" fake controversy with President Barack Obama and some other diverse topics here and there. We also had a great interview with Forbes magazine staff writer Zack O'Malley Greenburg about the creative inspiration, work & drama behind his latest book, "Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went From Street Corner to Corner Office". From the book's website (http://www.JayZBook.com): Empire State of Mind tells the story behind Jay-Z’s rise to the top as told by the people who lived it with him–from classmates at Brooklyn’s George Westinghouse High School; to the childhood friend who got him into the drug trade; to the DJ who convinced him to stop dealing and focus on music. We have brand new Black Agenda Report, Free Press "Media Minutes" and Black University Radio Network (B.U.R.N.) Direct EFX mini-segments on next week's syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast episode. ** Due to some computer issues in the FuseBox Radio Broadcast lab we just got repaired, we just wanted to give our listeners something to listen to with a bonus flashback episode from a few year's back...enjoy! ** This is a special extra flashback episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of March 26, 2014 (originally broadcast on March 30, 2011) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of May 8, 2013 (a flashback episode originally broadcast on March 16, 2011) with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our extended commentary that week focused on the tragic situation in Japan due to it's recent earthquake + tsunami, passing & impacts of music artists Nate Dogg (major part of the West Coast "G-Funk" Hip-Hop era with his singing, hooks, etc.), reggae artist Smiley Culture, Mark Adams (bassist for Funk/R&B group Slave) and electronic synthesizer visionary Tsutomu Katoh (founder of Korg) along with some more diverse topics here and there. We had a great extended interview with long-time entertainment industry executive Paul Porter of Industry Ears (http://www.IndustyEars.com), a consortium of entertainment and broadcast industry professionals with more than 60 years of experience dedicated to revealing truth and promoting justice in media. Some of the topics that we touched base on included the consolidation of all media outlets & how that effects the entertainment + information the masses get, what's REALLY the deal with 'net neutrality, what media outlets are truly "black owned" in the mainstream, the politics of the music industry behind the scenes, the importance of the Black Entertainment community getting into media policy issues and lots more! Due to our extended interview, new Black Agenda Report, Black University Radio Network and (B.U.R.N.) Direct EFX segments will be on next week's syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast episode. Listen to "The African History Network Show", Monday, June 6th, 8pm-11pm EST for Part 2 of our Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron, "The Godfather Of Rap". We'll talk about his life and the impact of his work. Scott-Heron was known for work that reflected the fury of Black America in the post-Civil Rights era and also spoke to the social and political disparities in the country. His songs often had incendiary titles — "Home is Where the Hatred Is" or "Whitey on the Moon" — and through spoken word and song he tapped the frustration of the masses. We will also be joined by Conscious Hip-Hop Artist, Wise Intelligent of The Poor Righteous Teachers. We'll talk about his new music and the State Of Hip Hop today. To listen visit www.AfricanHistoryNetwork.com or Call In (914) 338-1375.

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of March 30, 2011 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on the latest updates with the after effects of the earthquake + tsunami in Japan, the recent U.N. intervention in Libya news, the possible upcoming U.S. government shutdown due to budget issues and why it's just ridiculous how politicians are dragging this along, the re-birth of the "Birther" fake controversy with President Barack Obama and some other diverse topics here and there. This week we had a great interview with Forbes magazine staff writer Zack O'Malley Greenburg about the creative inspiration, work & drama behind his latest book, "Empire State of Mind: How Jay-Z Went From Street Corner to Corner Office". We have brand new Black Agenda Report, Free Press "Media Minutes" and Black University Radio Network (B.U.R.N.) Direct EFX mini-segments on next week's syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast episode.
