A woman was spotted in the stands of Super Bowl 59 poking a Patrick Mahomes fetish-voodoo doll with a pin, causing some to speculate that this was the reason for the team's, and the quarterback's, terrible performance. While some scoff, others are serious. In fact, the New Orleans Saints were the first, and maybe the only, NFL team to officially employ voodoo practitioners for assistance in winning a playoff game in 2000. A ritual featuring a large snake was performed at the 50-yard line, and at locations outside the super dome, which had been built on a cemetery. As for this year's game, Taylor Swift's presence, which has resulted in a 13-3 record for the Chiefs, prior to the big game, has generated a new form of the magical practice termed Tayvoodoo. This, of course, shares a relationship with the accusations of witchcraft and sorcery that the singer has faced over the last five years. According to Mambo Brandi C. Kelley - an initiated Voodoo Priestess and owner of Voodoo Authentica - there may be some truth to Tayvoodoo too: “When you have someone that is so in the public eye and comes with her own gigantic fan club, you're not only dealing with Chiefs fans, you're dealing with Taylor Swift fans all in a group just throwing that energy of love."Of all the famous celebrities at the game, Lady Gaga also performed a benefit song for the victims of disaster prior to kickoff, and was referred to as the ABRACADABRA singer throughout. In an interview with ELLE, she talks about the struggles of life, saying that the song is “about facing the challenge of life and the challenge of the night and finding the magic in it all." She attempts to break those spells in the song: “I'm fighting against it with everything… I'm serving against it.” She was asked about the lady in red, contrast with the white lady, and later says “the song has a spell in it.” As for ABRACADABRA, this charm has been used for ages to cure disease and to repel acts of poison and witchcraft! It is strongly associated with inverted triangles - as we saw at the Super Bowl halftime show - since the letters are written downward to dissolve distress. It is also linked directly with ABRAXAS, the golden age god!-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITEPAYPALCashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

In this episode, Sahil Bloom shares why chasing money alone won't make you truly wealthy—and what actually will. Sahil is a writer, entrepreneur, and investor known for breaking down complex ideas into powerful, actionable insights. His debut book, The Five Types of Wealth: A Transformative Guide to Design Your Dream Life, challenges the belief that financial success is the only goal worth chasing. Instead, he reveals a new blueprint for building a life of true fulfillment—one that balances time, social, mental, physical, and financial wealth. We dive deep into why most people are measuring their lives all wrong, how to escape the trap of “later,” and why redefining your personal scoreboard is the key to happiness. Sahil also shares practical tools to reclaim your time, stop the busyness spiral, and align your daily actions with what actually matters. If you've ever felt stuck in the endless pursuit of “more,” this episode will change how you think about success forever. Some highlights we explore: “Later is just another word for never.” Why waiting to enjoy life is the biggest mistake you can make. The energy calendar trick. A simple way to identify what drains and fuels you—so you can shift your schedule. The Red Queen effect. How endless busyness tricks you into thinking you're making progress when you're actually stuck. Enjoy!
My guest today is Michael Garfield, a paleontologist, futurist, writer, podcast host and strategic advisor whose “mind-jazz” performances — essays, music and fine art — bridge the worlds of art, science and philosophy. This year, Michael received a $10k O'Shaughnessy Grant for his “Humans On the Loop” discussion series, which explores the nature of agency, power, responsibility and wisdom in the age of automation. This whirlwind discussion is impossible to sum up in a couple of sentences (just look at the number of books & articles mentioned!) Ultimately, it is a conversation about a subject I think about every day: how we can live curious, collaborative and fulfilling lives in our deeply weird, complex, probabilistic world. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. A discussion with Matt Ridley on his book Viral: The Search for the Origin of COVID-19, written with Alina Chan, touches mostly on how the lab leak hypothesis is now an officially accepted explanation but how the mainstream media and academia are slow to admit it. The orthodoxy began with the excuse that they wanted to protect science, but they have done, and continue to do, the opposite. Matt Ridley is an eminent science journalist. Writer of books "The Red Queen"; "Genome"; "How Innovation Works"; "The Evolution of Everything"; "The Origin of Virtue"; "Nature via Nature" and his latest "Viral: The Search for the Origins of Covid-19". All are available on Amazon. His personal blog is here Here, he also discusses the importance of "citizen journalists" and scientists in uncovering the suppression of evidence supporting the lab leak hypothesis of COVID-19. There have been a lot of eyes drawn to Dream Star Fighting Marigold from the very get-go. Not only because it is the latest endeavour of Rossy Ogawa, but also due to it coming by way of a ‘split' from World Wonder Ring Stardom.Former-World of Stardom Champion Utami Hayashishita was arguably the biggest name to take the leap alongside Rossy, Giulia and a handful of other roster members in May 2024. At 26-years old, and managing to achieve almost all there is to achieve in Stardom, many looked to Utami as the Ace of Marigold and the person to build this entire venture around. With a Marigold World Championship match locked in for First Dream on the 3rd January 2025, we were granted the opportunity to talk to Utami about the label of ‘Ace of Marigold', who she would like to face in singles action – both in Marigold and out – that match with IYO SKY and so much more…Read the full interview transcript here: https://talkjoshi.com/the-marigold-red-queen-cometh-exclusive-utami-hayashishita-interview/Subscribe to our PATREON: https://patreon.com/TheStardomCastThe website: https://www.talkjoshi.comSubscribe to the Podcast: https://linktr.ee/TheStardomCastJoin our Discord Server: https://discord.gg/bbDcAwcTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/marigoldpodcastBuy our Merch: https://teespring.com/en-GB/stores/podmania-podcasting-networkYouTube: https://tinyurl.com/2s4zrf3rBuy Rob's NEW Stardom Book – Chasing the Dream: 50 of Stardom's Greatest Matches Right Here: https://tinyurl.com/2eemszmtAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Matters Microbial #63: A Symphony of Cyanobacteria October 30, 2024 Today, Dr. Nathan Algren, Associate Professor of Biology at Clark University, joins the #QualityQuorum to discuss the centrality of cyanobacteria to our biosphere, the viruses that prey upon them, and his interests in outreach and science-oriented art. Host: Mark O. Martin Guest: Nathan Ahlgren Subscribe: Apple Podcasts, Spotify Become a patron of Matters Microbial! Links for this episode An overview of the cyanobacteria. An overview of Prochlorococcus. An overview of marine bacteriophages. The Great Oxidation Event Cyanobacteria are thought to have radically changed our planet 2.5-3.5 billion years ago by producing oxygen through photosynthesis. In essence, they and other microbes are the original terraformers. The Purple Earth Hypothesis Photosynthesis as we know it, using chlorophyll, may have evolved after another way of doing photosynthesis, with retinal that looks purple. This means that our planets and other ‘younger' planets may look or have looked purple rather than green. Self-assembly of viral capsids, as modeled by 3D-printed parts (Art Olson) TED talk from Penny Chisholm on Prochlorococcus Co-occurring Synechococcus ecotypes occupy four major oceanic regimes defined by temperature, macronutrients and iron Study showing how different populations of Synechococcus occupy different niches and regions of the oceans according to their adaptations to temperature and nutrients. Long-term stability and Red Queen-like strain dynamics in marine viruses Study showing turnover of strains within relatively stable phage populations. Viral treadmills in the ocean—running to stand still Companion ‘behind the paper' article. Diverse Marine T4-like Cyanophage Communities Are Primarily Comprised of Low-Abundance Species Including Species with Distinct Seasonal, Persistent, Occasional, or Sporadic Dynamics Paper showing cyanophage ‘species' have different time patterns in the oceans. Rapid diversification of coevolving marine Synechococcus and a virus Study showing stable co-existence and co-evolution of a single Synechococcus host and phage over time. The emergence of resistance hosts and phage that overcome them demonstrate the principles of the Red Queen hypothesis and phage-host ‘arms race'. Present and future global distributions of the marine Cyanobacteria Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus Figure from this paper is in the presentation. We dive back into the Giallo world this week with The Red Queen Kills Seven Times. This our firs foray into the filmography of Emilio Miraglia; unfortunately, this was his final film. Though Miraglia was a prolific filmmaker, this was only his second giallo, this first being The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave. The Red Queen Kills Seven Times follows two sisters Evelyn and Kitty, an alleged curse and the typical red herrings and plot twists that you can expect from these films. Intro: “Necromaniacs” – Mike Hill Outro: “Serpents of the Light” – Deicide
Meg and Alex are joined by Sarah Wendell to discuss the final book in the Vorkosigan Saga.

This is the second-to-last of our summer reruns; new episodes back Sept. 18 on the Patreon feed and Sept. 25 on the main feed! For this one, we're taking a break from looking at the ways that sitcoms advanced American discourse about LGBTQ people and instead gawking at campy 80s fluff — because that is also a thing that is important to gay people. “Jennifer: The Movie” (October 29, 1983) We're celebrating both Halloween and week two of our celebration of Ann Jillian with an episode about how the 1983 NBC series Jennifer Slept Here is both so very weird and also a little gay boy's fantasy — because it pairs an awkward boy with glamorous ghost, and that's secretly what every little gay boy wishes he had to guide him through his awkward years. This is peak 80s, but also it has one of the best sitcom themes ever, regardless of decade. Watch Drew's video of the 1982 Night of a Thousand Stars fashion show, which features Ann Jillian looking like her most Debbie Harry ever. Gawk in awe at: The opening to Mr. Smith The opening to Double Trouble The opening to Mr. Merlin The opening to Down to Earth The opening to Ann Jillian Ann as the Red Queen in the live action Alice in Wonderland + the very scary Jabberwocky scenes

Henry VIII's is infamous for his relationships with women. The domineering King took 6 wives during his 36 years on the throne. And he disposed of them with as much scandal as he wooed them – Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived. But three other women had an important impact on his childhood, his mother Elizabeth of York and his two Grandmothers Elizabeth Woodville and Margaret Beaufort. They have been dubbed by popular historical fiction author Philippa Gregory as the White Princess, the White Queen and the Red Queen. These women were caught in the brambles of the wars of the roses and fought tooth and nail for their children and for themselves. And it was these three women who brought an end to three decades of bloody battle and restored peace to England. Join me every Tuesday when I'm Spilling the Tea on History! Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Changes in College Admissions, published by Zvi on April 24, 2024 on LessWrong. This post brings together various questions about the college application process, as well as practical considerations of where to apply and go. We are seeing some encouraging developments, but mostly the situation remains rather terrible for all concerned. Application Strategy and Difficulty Paul Graham: Colleges that weren't hard to get into when I was in HS are hard to get into now. The population has increased by 43%, but competition for elite colleges seems to have increased more. I think the reason is that there are more smart kids. If so that's fortunate for America. Are college applications getting more competitive over time? Yes and no. The population size is up, but the cohort size is roughly the same. The standard 'effort level' of putting in work and sacrificing one's childhood and gaming the process is dramatically up. So you have to do it to stay in place. There is a shift in what is valued on several fronts. I do not think kids are obviously smarter or dumber. Spray and Pray and Optimal Admissions Strategy This section covers the first two considerations. Admission percentages are down, but additional applications per student, fueled by both lower transaction costs and lower acceptance rates, mostly explains this. This means you have to do more work and more life distortion to stay in place in the Red Queen's Race. Everyone is gaming the system, and paying higher costs to do so. If you match that in relative terms, for a generic value of 'you,' your ultimate success rate, in terms of where you end up, will be unchanged from these factors. The bad news for you is that previously a lot of students really dropped the ball on the admissions process and paid a heavy price. Now 'drop the ball' means something a lot less severe. This is distinct from considerations three and four. It is also distinct from the question of whether the sacrifices are worthwhile. I will return to that question later on, this for now is purely the admission process itself. The size of our age cohorts has not changed. The American population has risen, but so has its age. The number of 17-year-olds is essentially unchanged in the last 40 years. GPT-4 says typical behavior for an applicant was to send in 1-3 applications before 1990, 4-7 in the 1990s-2000s, 7-10 in the late 2000s or later, perhaps more now. Claude said it was 3-5 in the 1990s, 5-7 in the early 200s and 7-10 in the 2010s. In that same time period, in a high-end example, Harvard's acceptance rate has declined from 16% to 3.6%. In a middle-range example, NYU's acceptance rate in 2000 was 29% and it is now 12%. In a lower-end example, SUNY Stony Brook (where my childhood best friend ended up going) has declined from roughly 65% to roughly 44%. The rate of return on applying to additional colleges was always crazy high. It costs on the order of hours of work and about $100 to apply to an additional college. Each college has, from the student's perspective, a high random element in its decision, and that decision includes thousands to tens of thousands in scholarship money. If you apply to a safety school, there is even the risk you get rejected for being 'too good' and thus unlikely to attend. Yes, often there will be very clear correct fits and top choices for you, but if there is even a small chance of needing to fall back or being able to reach, or finding an unexpectedly large scholarship offer you might want, it is worth trying. As colleges intentionally destroy the objectivity of applications (e.g. not requiring the SAT, although that is now being reversed in many places, or relying on hidden things that differ and are hard to anticipate) that further decreases predictability and correlation, so you have to apply to more places, which f...

Are AmeriKans as "dumbed down" as most of the Waste-stream Media and the Swamp Traitors believe? Will they literally swallow anything? (Or, allow themselves to be injected with it?) It seems that "incredibly unlikely events," even statistically-impossible events, are now descending on a nation that arguably deserves "Judgment!" even faster than a flock of black swans. Host Mark Call suggests that Lewis Carroll had a lesson in mind when he wrote about a conversation between Alice (the one 'In Wonderland') and the Red Queen in "Through the Looking Glass." "Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said. 'One can't believe impossible things.' I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” If we are beginning to see just what is coming, and now at-hand, we need to understand that NOT being fooled has become a matter of Life and Death.
