This week on the show Andrew and Ted discuss the Netflix original feature "House of Dynamite", starring Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Idris Elba, and strongly featuring Anthony Ramos, Tracy Letts, and Jared Harris. This Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) directed thriller counts down the departmental actions of the US Government as they have 20 minutes to make decisions before a suspected nuclear warhead, secretly launched from the far western waters of the Pacific Ocean strikes Chicago. Tune into the show to find out what element of this feature blew both Andrew and Ted out of the water and what, if any, misses there were.

From Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, Point Break) comes her first feature film in in more than eight years and it might very well be THE scariest film of the year. :o The premise is simple: a lone nuclear missile has been launched from somewhere in the Pacific and is on a trajectory to land somewhere in the continental United States....in twenty minutes. This nuclear thriller takes us through the various corridors of power of the governernment and those in the most responsive positions in the military - we watch as they scramble not only how to figure out how to prevent this weapon from hitting its target, but also how our military should respond if it DOES hit its target, possibly resulting in the instant deaths of millions of civilians. It's a terrifying sceanario and Bigelow has assembled a top-flight cast lead by Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Tracey Letts, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Ramos, Greta Lee, and Jared Harris. The clock is ticking.....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture For this week's third podcast review, Josh Parham and Giovanni Lago join me to review and discuss the latest film from Kathryn Bigelow, "A House Of Dynamite," starring Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. The plot follows the U.S. government navigating an official response to a single nuclear missile launched by an unidentified enemy. It's presented in a terrifyingly realistic manner that wants to encourage more thoughtful discussion surrounding nuclear weapons, but its three-act "Rashomon" inspired narrative structure and divisive ending have audiences perhaps thinking about other elements than what was intended since its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. What did we think of it? Please tune in as we discuss the screenplay, direction, the performances from the ensemble, the ending, its score, awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Pete and Trevor did not record their episode on House of Dynamite from a bunker built to withstand a nuclear holocaust. There is no need to worry. House of Dynamite, featuring an ensemble casts including Rebecca Ferguson, Idris Elba, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Greta Lee, and Anthony Ramos, is director Kathryn Bigelow's first feature film in 8 years. These people are also not in a bunker, again, everything is fine. We return to our ongoing project Last Action Heroes with a focus on Sigourney Weaver (Alien, Ghostbusters, Starship Troopers), specifically her role in James Cameron's Aliens. Kathryn Bigelow - the first woman who won the Best Director OSCAR at the Academy Awards - is back to deliver us her latest tense thriller... but on Netflix. Bigelow's films have had a big impact on me as a film fan since I was an early teen and I've been waiting years for her to finally make a new movie. I - thank god - had the opportunity to see A House of Dynamite in cinemas last week, with it currently running a select cinemas release in the lead-up to it's drop on Netflix on October 24th. This movie's been garnering pretty rave reviews since the it's premiere at the Venice Film Festival... but I'm coming in pretty hot with a slightly controversial opinion on one of Netflix's biggest awards contenders for 2025. In this episode of What's Next, Pete and Hannah dive into two very different but equally ambitious films, offering sharp takes and strong recommendations.

In theaters this weekend before streaming on Netflix Oct. 24. Kathryn Bigelow, Tracy Letts, Jared Harris, Noah Oppenheim, Paul N.J. Ottosson, Kirk Baxter, and Volker Bertelmann join NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim to discuss A House of Dynamite, which had its North American premiere at the 63rd New York Film Festival. The detection of an unidentified incoming missile sets in motion an escalating series of actions and reactions across all levels of the U.S. government in Kathryn Bigelow's kinetic thriller, featuring a terrific ensemble cast led by Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, and Gabriel Basso. Q&A on the film Brave the Dark with director Damian Harris and actor Jared Harris. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. Haunted by torturous childhood memories, Nate Williams finds himself engulfed in darkness. When his drama teacher, Mr. Deen bails him out of jail and takes him in, Nate must confront his past before it leads to his own destruction.
It's Kinda 2: Electric Boogaloo – or as it's better known to most people… Snakedance! Beyond the return of the Mara, we get the return of good ol' themes of colonialism, complete with a spoiled brat heir, a difficult and ignorant historian, and a snake-oil salesman who gets his comeuppance (ironically, at the hands of snake-being!)! Join us as we discuss what the Mara are (and how RTD has corrupted that idea), to what extent Lon was actually possessed by the Mara, how Elisabeth Sladen's husband (Brian Miller) bears a striking resemblance to Jared Harris, how J.K. Rowling may have taken some inspiration from this story, and the absolute simplicity of the plot. Additionally, Anthony challenges Reilly to cosplay as Lon. On this episode of Bingeworthy, host Mike DeAngelo is joined by Lee Pace, who returns as Brother Day in season three of "Foundation" — Apple TV+'s sprawling adaptation of Isaac Asimov's legendary sci-fi saga. The show resumed July 11, picking up as empires crumble, timelines splinter, and the Cleon dynasty faces collapse from within. The show stars Lee Pace, Jared Harris, Terrence Mann, Lou Llobell, Cassian Bilton, and Laura Birn.In the new season, Pace's Brother Day finds himself disconnected - emotionally, politically, and spiritually. Stripped of purpose and clarity, he wanders his palace gardens like a burned-out prophet, high on spores and nursing existential dread. According to Pace, that chaos is exactly what drew him back in.

It's the episode you've all been waiting for… James talking about Foundation for a truly heroic amount of time as not only does the team review (1:00:25) the show's third season (for which James provides Kay with a ‘helpful' primer on the series) but he also gets to sit down with Jared Harris and chat psychohistory and four-dimensional objects to his heart's content (31:46-46:22). Elsewhere, we get back into the Boschiverse with Ballard on Prime (1:19:16), and see if throwback ‘90s sitcoms still hold up with Shifting Gears on Disney+ (1:28:22).Note: time stamps are approximate as the ads throw them out, so are only meant as a guide. Wayne Wang's "Smoke" doesn't look like a Christmas movie, sound like a Christmas movie or ever feel like a Christmas movie. It really isn't, but the final fifteen minutes of this terrific ensemble film features a moving and poetic Christmas story that makes it worthy of inclusion on this show (hey, it has more Chrsitmas in it than Disney's "Babes In Toyland"). The film stars Harvey Keitel, William Hurt, Forrest Whitaker, Stockard Channing, Ashley Judd, Giancarlo Esposito, Harold Perrineau and Jared Harris. It also has a distinction of winning an obscure MTV Movie Award for a category that was never repeated ever again.
