With Superman (2025) on VOD, the new season of Peacemaker airing on HBO, AND the newly-announced Man of Tomorrow sequel, Tara & Andrew continue their DCEU Marathon giving their Wonder Woman 1984 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, & Spoiler Review!! Andrew Gordon & Tara Erickson dive into Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), the action-packed DCEU sequel directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster, Wonder Woman). Gal Gadot (Justice League, Fast & Furious) returns as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, now living in the neon-soaked 1980s and working at the Smithsonian while secretly protecting humanity. Chris Pine (Star Trek, Into the Woods) reprises his role as Steve Trevor, brought back under mysterious circumstances through the power of the Dreamstone. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us) stars as Maxwell Lord, a power-hungry businessman whose wishes bring catastrophic consequences, while Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) joins the cast as Barbara Minerva, whose transformation into the feral and dangerous Cheetah provides one of the film's most memorable battles. The story follows Diana as she confronts moral dilemmas of love, sacrifice, and truth while navigating the chaos unleashed by the Dreamstone's power. Key moments include Steve Trevor's emotional return, Diana's Golden Eagle armor reveal, the climactic showdown with Cheetah, and Wonder Woman's final confrontation with Maxwell Lord—delivering one of the most talked-about endings in the DCEU. With stunning action sequences set against 1980s backdrops, heartfelt themes, and a blend of superhero spectacle and character-driven drama, Wonder Woman 1984 remains one of the most debated films in the franchise. Frank sits down with James from Distance Nerding to unpack Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 2. They get into the portal arc and what it means for Chris as a character, why Eagly quietly steals the episode, and how James Gunn uses running gags like bird blindness to build heart under the humor. The conversation hits Economos wrestling with anxiety and loyalty, Harcourt's guard-up spiral, Maxwell Lord setup notes, and a few big swing predictions for where the last three episodes could go. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Welcome and intro to James from Distance Nerding 00:41 First reactions and the tone of a bridge episode 01:20 Tim Meadows as Flurry and the bird blindness gag that keeps paying off 02:55 Eagly reminder and the home defense sequence 03:34 Who hunts Eagly and why that matters for stakes 03:54 The portal arc and the pull of a “better life” versus the 11th Street Boys 05:36 Frank's theory that the other world celebrates the wrong heroes 07:16 Economos anxiety, Argus pressure, and found family 08:20 Wanting solitude yet craving connection 09:25 The quiet role Economos plays as a buffer between Argus and Peacemaker 10:49 Harcourt's arc and the “is it nepotism if they are perfect for the part” debate 12:10 Maxwell Lord read and why this version fits the DCU tone 13:08 Little prop clues and what they say about each universe 14:59 Pacing notes and how small scenes plant story markers 16:50 Expecting a tonal pivot in the final three and how it could bridge into the DCU 18:14 Why mature side stories like this hit different than the big icons 19:13 The portal as a what if and a metaphor for avoiding the real work 21:02 A simple I love you that hints at hope in a darker world 22:05 Will Chris ever find peace or accept where he is 24:13 Amelia in the other world and why a perfect version may not be what he wants 25:01 Kintsugi idea and why the cracks are what make Chris care 25:57 Screener cutoff at five episodes and cameo speculation 27:06 Adebayo and Kia under strain and what career first says about her path 27:46 Will Economos choose Argus before choosing his people 28:47 Twilight Zone vibes and a pocket world that looks bright but is not 29:07 Hot take prediction that a certain Rick Flag could show up in a key way 30:12 Senior's revenge focus and Chris facing what he did 31:13 Guilt in the Maxwell Lord interview and the line that haunts him 32:31 Final thoughts plus a quick Alien Earth shout 32:53 Distance Nerding con schedule and Geek Freaks collabs 35:01 Sign off Key Takeaways Peacemaker is sitting in the tension between a tempting escape and the messy work of growth. Running jokes like bird blindness are doing character work, not just easy laughs. Eagly is more than a mascot. Giving him an active threat raises the emotional stakes at home. Economos is the quiet hinge of the team. His anxiety and Argus ties set up a hard choice. Harcourt is pushing people away to avoid being seen. That makes her mirror Chris more than ever. The other universe may celebrate ugly values under a hero banner. That could snap Chris back to who he is now, not who he was. Expect a big tone shift in the last three episodes with room for a surprise cameo that ties personal guilt to resolution. Memorable Quotes “Those callback jokes you think are throwaways keep coming back. It is gold.” “Eagly steals the show. We kind of forgot he is a badass.” “He can see the life he wants through the portal, but he has not dealt with his stuff.” “You cannot hide the body. Episode Summary Frank breaks down the Season 2 premiere of Peacemaker with a clear eye on tone, pacing, and character arcs. He digs into how the show turns a once unlikable lead into someone worth rooting for, why the loneliness under the jokes hits harder this year, and how the new multiverse twist sets up real emotional stakes. You will hear thoughts on the Justice Gang cameo, the revamped intro, and the visual style of the folding door chamber. There is praise for John Cena's performance, predictions for where the 11th Street Kids are headed, and a quick show update while Thomas focuses on family. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Welcome and show update for Challenge Accepted 00:52 What to expect while Thomas is on dad duty and how the show will roll 01:29 Spoiler alert and the review plan for this episode 02:06 Tone and pacing compared to Season 1 02:59 Why Peacemaker is now easy to root for 03:44 Loneliness balanced with humor and how the show pulls it off 04:34 Justice Gang interview gag with Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner 06:16 Harcourt at the bar and what that fight says about her headspace 07:04 Faster cross cutting and more time with the full crew 07:49 The 99 doors concept and Chris seeing Keith again 10:24 Reading the alt world and the darker subtext behind it 11:29 John Cena's quiet beats and why they land 12:06 Adebayo with Chris and Economos watching for Rick Flag Sr 13:33 Vigilante and Economos calls and why they still click 14:17 New intro song and dance and why it works 15:11 Folding chamber visuals and how the world multiplies 15:50 Justice Gang line up and a clean DCU reset inside the recap 18:13 Big moments to watch and a look ahead at the multiverse thread 19:27 Final thoughts and excitement for the season Key Takeaways Peacemaker's path from jerk to vulnerable lead keeps paying off because the show lets humor sit on top of real hurt. Season 2 spreads focus across the team which helps flesh out Harcourt, Adebayo, Economos, and Vigilante. The 99 doors device is more than a visual trick. It puts Chris face to face with the life he wished he had and tests his growth. Harcourt's bar scene shows a trained fighter chasing pain to feel anything at all. The Justice Gang cameo quietly resets the DCU context without getting lost in lore. John Cena's small moments carry as much weight as the big jokes. Expect a reckoning with Rick Flag Sr and a deeper look at guilt, forgiveness, and chosen family. Quotes “It is amazing how DC took a character like Peacemaker and now I am rooting for him in every way.” “These outsiders are going to reunite again.” “There are 99 doors in this folding chamber and each one asks who Chris wants to be.” “Sometimes we do not need to make it complicated. The reset is right there in front of us.” “John Cena is a fantastic actor and the quiet beats prove it.” Call to Action If you enjoyed this episode, follow the show, tap subscribe, and leave a rating and review. On the heels of James Gunn & DC Studios releasing Superman on VOD, Greg & John are BACK & joined by Roxy Striar to give their Peacemaker Season 2 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Breakdown, & Spoiler Review! Get ready as the ever-unhinged Peacemaker returns in an explosive Season 2 opener—“The Ties That Grind”—premiering August 21, 2025, on HBO Max. Written by James Gunn, this episode throws our trigger-happy antihero, Chris Smith / Peacemaker (John Cena, WWE Legend, The Suicide Squad), into a multiverse-spanning conundrum where reality lines blur & loyalties shift. Joining Cena's flawed heroism are returning 11th Street Kids: Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black) as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as the psychotic Vigilante, Jennifer Holland (Harley Quinn) as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) as Economos, and Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) as Peacemaker's morally deranged father, Auggie “White Dragon” Smith. New faces shake things up too: Frank Grillo (The Purge: Anarchy, Creature Commandos) clocks in as Rick Flag Sr.—gunning for Peacemaker over his son's death—while Tim Meadows (Saturday Night Live) brings a uniquely quirky & hilarious presence as ARGUS agent Fleury. Key scene highlights include Peacemaker's unsettling taste of the multiverse—featuring a hyper-idealized alternate reality—and the hysterical cameo drops from forthcoming DCU heroes like Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Maxwell Lord, tying into the new "Gods and Monsters" DCU theme Follow Roxy Striar YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@TheWhirlGirls Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roxystriar/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/roxystriar Intense Suspense by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... Superman was pretty great, huh? We wanted to keep the good times rolling this week with an episode featuring characters other than the big guy who appeared in the movie. I really wanted to do a Batman/Mr. Terrific team up, but outside team settings, there aren't really any, so we instead went with a classic Bob Haney Metamorpho story, a Batman/Guy Gardner story that doesn't end with Gardner unconscious and the story of Maxwell Lord's infamous heel turn. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes.Marvel Studios is apparently very pleased with the positive reviews its latest release Thunderbolts*(AKA The New Avengers) is being showered with, as the director, Jake Schreier, is reportedly the studio's top choice to direct the upcoming X-Men film. Said X-Men film remains untitled, but is in active development with Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes writer, Michael Lesslie, currently writing the script. All of this seems to be in keeping with The Wall Street Journal's recent reports about Feige's 10-year plan for the mutants he shared with colleagues. This week DC treated us to the first official trailer for the sophomore season of HBO's Peacemaker, alongside the announcement that it will premiere August 21. The trailer is jam-packed with gags and characters old and new, with a notable handful of characters from James Gunn's upcoming Superman, like Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord and Isabella Merced's Hawkgirl, appearing. Elsewhere, Despite wide traveling rumors, James Gunn affirmed that Matt Reeves is still set to direct The Batman 2 with his Threads response “Yes. Huh?” indicating his confusion at the suggestion of anything otherwise. Gunn also teased a new trailer for Superman to hit the internet on Wednesday, conveniently the day after we recorded this episode. It's a tangled web we weave in terms of Spidey news this week, as Amazon's Spider-Man Noir series released a first image of Nic Cage in the title role, followed by what appeared to be an official trailer that was subsequently removed and scrubbed from the internet. On the film side, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has added The Bear star, Liza Colón-Zayas in an undisclosed role.Per a Jeff “The Insneider” Sneider scoop/rumor, the upcoming Vision series starring Paul Bettany will be the last Marvel TV series to feature major characters from the films.During Disney's Up Front presentation, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter confirmed that she will be returning to the role in the MCU in the second season of Daredevil Born Again.Warner Bros has slated the next Lord of the Rings film, subtitled The Hunt for Gollum, for a December 17, 2027 release. The film, which sees Andy Serkis returning to not only star, but also direct, was announced last summer for a 2026 release originally before being delayed by a year.Author Tess Sharpe will be releasing a young adult novel focusing on Yelena Belova titled White Widow: Secret Sisters. The novel will be released on September 2nd.Warner Bros. and Legendary announced last week that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is the new title for the forthcoming movie that is set for theatrical release March 26, 2027. A teaser video was also released to mark the start of production on the sixth film in the series.Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* kept the number one spot on a relatively quiet weekend at the domestic box office, earning $33.1 million for a 10-day North American tally of $128.5 million and $272.2 million globally. Ryan Coogler's hit Sinners crossed the $200 million mark at the domestic box office for a worldwide total of nearly $300 million. In a second victory for Warner Brothers, A Minecraft Movie zoomed past $900 million in global ticket sales and is on track to become the first billion-dollar movie of 2025.Peacock has released a first look image and an official title for the upcoming The Office spin-off series. The series, titled The Paper, will follow a struggling newspaper based out of Toledo, Ohio and is now set to premiere in September.Michael B. Jordan will produce a series set in the Creed universe for Amazon Prime Video. Meeting Sean Gunn, Daniel Logan, & Vivien Lyra Blair! Superman, Star Wars, Marvel, DC & MORE! Greg Alba hosts a high-energy panel at MultiCon featuring Sean Gunn (Maxwell Lord Superman: Legacy, Guardians of the Galaxy, Creature Commandos), Daniel Logan (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, The Clone Wars), and Vivien Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bird Box, We Can Be Heroes). The conversation kicks off with a celebration of fandoms—Marvel, DC, and Star Wars—and quickly dives into exclusive updates and heartfelt stories. Sean Gunn discusses his role in Superman: Legacy, his work as Rocket Raccoon's on-set reference, and reflects on working with his brother, James Gunn, while teasing the rumor of him playing Maxwell Lord in Superman. Daniel Logan shares insights into growing up as young Boba Fett, voicing the character in The Clone Wars, and his hopes of returning to Star Wars. He dives into the evolution of Boba's identity and his personal bond with Temuera Morrison. Vivien Lyra Blair talks about playing young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the possibility of a teenage Leia series, and how her martial arts background influenced her stunt-heavy roles in We Can Be Heroes and Obi-Wan Kenobi. She also shares hilarious stories about internet rumors surrounding her non-existent "brother" and her five cats. The panel takes fun turns, from debates on Skeleton Crew being more Goonies or Stranger Things to Sean's deep dive into mocap acting and his approach to portraying quirky characters like Weasel and Rocket Raccoon. The trio also reflects on fatherhood, mentorship, and the evolving dynamics of Hollywood franchises. MultiCon brought together some incredible talent, including Kevin Smith (Clerks, Jay & Silent Bob), Robert Kirkman (Invincible, The Walking Dead), Rob Liefeld (Deadpool), Straw Hat Goofy (TikTok's Movie Guy), Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man 2), Seth Green (Family Guy, Robot Chicken), Tara Platt (Naruto), Isaac Robinson-Smith (Transformers: EarthSpark), Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Khary Payton (Teen Titans Go!, The Walking Dead), Scott Gimple (The Walking Dead), Kel Mitchell (Kenan & Kel), Monique Coleman (High School Musical), KayCee Stroh (High School Musical), Shar Jackson (Moesha), and Jason Carl (Vampire: The Masquerade), along with Dungeons & Dragons legends. Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes In a surprising move to keep us all on our toes, at the premiere for season two of What If? Marvel Studios recently announced a Black Panther spinoff show called Eyes of Wakanda, which will premiere next year on Disney+. If the news from Wakanda wasn't exciting enough to fans, those who attended the premiere also received the privilege of sneak peeks for X-Men ‘97 and Spider-Man: Freshmen Year, which has been renamed to Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, PLUS the studio confirmed a third season for What If?. Ahead of the highly-anticipated third installment in Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool series, set photos are being shared with abandon as drone shots show off more of the movie than the Star wants. Reynolds took to Instagram for a global plea that requested the leaks stop saying, “Surprises are part of the magic of theatrical movies,” and citing the leaks as a “difficult situation.” Reynolds' post finished with him mentioning that spoilers occur when fans are excited AND talking of his enjoyment about making this movie. The 2024 Golden Globe nominations are in and the leaders will surprise nobody, with Barbie and Succession topping the boards with nine nominations each. Other buzzworthy films and shows with many chances to sweep awards are Oppenheimer, The Bear, Killers of the Flower Moon, Only Murders in the Building, Poor Things, and The Crown. Some noted projects that did not garner any noms are Napoleon, Ferrari, Origin, and Swarm. Next year's awards show will premiere two new categories: Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. This year's Golden Globes will be the first held without the oversight of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which has opened the voting opportunity to a more ethnically and racially diverse voting group made up of 300 journalists from 76 different countries. The Wall Street Journal reported Angelina Jolie has officially signed on to reprise her role as Maleficent for a third film in the series. Amazon released the first teaser trailer for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the reboot series of the 2005 film of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The new series stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine and will drop in its entirety on Prime on February 2. Tom Blyth, the breakout star of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, signed on to star in a film adaptation of Ernest Hemmingway's World War I novel A Farewell To Arms. The project will begin filming next year. Warner Bros. Discovery signed a multiyear U.S. output deal with studio A24, bringing the entertainment company's slate of films exclusively to Max for streaming after their theatrical runs. Peacock renewed the action-comedy series Twisted Metal starring Anthony Mackie for a second season. According to Deadline, Sean Gunn will play the evil businessman Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe that is helmed by his brother James Gunn. It is not yet clear if Sean Gunn will make an appearance in the upcoming Superman Legacy or if he will appear in different future DC projects. Netflix renewed the animated drama series Blue Eye Samurai for a second season. After a series of concerning reports about Marvel Studios' Blade film, Mahershala Ali addressed the state of the project. “We're working on it. That's the best I could tell you,” Ali said, speaking to Entertainment Weekly. “I'm really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we'll be back at it relatively soon.” Godzilla Minus One, now at $14.36 million at the box office, is currently the highest grossing live-action Japanese film in North America. This follows an opening weekend that marked the biggest Stateside debut of a foreign film this year.

We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. CW: Brief mention of Armie Hammer's sexual misconduct allegations, terrible Batman voices Podcast Plugged In This Episode: The Geeky Dad Podcast (@geekydadpodcast and @RaphaelMoran on Twitter) Things Mentioned In This Episode: Paul Dini, Grant Morrison, Elongated Man, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardiner, Superman Lives, Superman Returns, Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Reeve, Bryan Singer, Clerks 2, Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Joel Schumacher, The Dark Knight, Batman Versus Superman, JJ Abrams, MCU, Iron Man, Hulk, David Goyer, Kieran Mulroney, Michelle Mulroney, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Jason Reitman, Thank You For Smoking, Aaron Eckhardt, Juno, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, George Miller, Mad Max, Mad Max: Fury Road, Happy Feet, Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Fat Joe, Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, Barry Osbourne, Merit Allen, Weta Workshop, Peter Jackson, Canceled Movie Report Podcast, Snyderverse, Wonder Woman 1984, Gal Godot, HappySadConfused Podcast, Joseph Cross, Strangers With Candy, Running With Scissors, Michael Angarano, Almost Famous, Sky High, Max Thieriot, The Pacifier, Nancy Drew, Minka Kelly, The Pumpkin Karver, The Kingdom, Adrianne Palicki, Friday Night Lights, Scott Porter, Music and Lyrics, Jessica Biel, 7th Heaven, The Illusionist, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Death Proof, Live Free or Die Hard, DJ Cotrona, Venom (2005), Windfall, Armie Hammer, Flicka, Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Desperate Housewives, Megan Gale, Stealth, Teresa Palmer, The Grudge 2, December Boys, Talia al Ghul, Common, Smokin' Aces, Jon Stewart, Green Lantern, Adam Brody, The OC, In The Land of Women, Barry Allen, The Flash, Anton Yelchin, Charlie Bartlett, Wally West, Kid Flash, Santiago Cabrerra, Love & Other Disasters, Heroes, Aquaman, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Martian Manhunter, Jay Baruchel, Undeclared, Knocked Up, Maxwell Lord, Seth Rogen, Zoe Kazan, Stephen Tobolowsky, Mark Waid, OMAC, Starro, WGA, AMPTP, DGA, SAG, IATSE, Redbox, Netflix, Wolverine, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig, Babe: Pig In The City, Man of Steel, Dragonball Z, Pedro Pascal, Nick Cage, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Goon, Seann William Scott, Jamie Lee Curtis, 3000 Years of Longing, Jessica Alba, Fantastic Four, Shazam!, George Clooney, Alicia Silverstone, Ahmed Best, Jake Lloyd --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/derazzled/support
