Fiddler Records was a small independent record label serving as the launchpad for several artists seminal to the pop, punk and emo genres. Starting as the brainchild of 16-year-old entrepreneur Amy Fleisher Madden in 1996, the label became well known for its early releases from marquee artists Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory. Over the course of 10 years, Fiddler Records developed a steady roster of successful artists such as The Bled, The Higher, Recover, Juliette & The Licks, Name Taken and Classic Case. You can purchase some of their stuff at www.fiddlerrecords.com I reached out to Amy last year but due to Covid it took us a while to make this happen. But, I finally got her on the SKYPE and this is what we talk about: Why re-releasing records sometimes doesn't work how did she fund her first releases What would she document if she could go back in time Did she have other labels to bounce ideas off of? Reevaluations: Disco Songs by Non-Disco Artists

Many factors caused the end of disco by 1980. One that isn't discussed as much: as the market went all-in on disco, established artists who never made even remotely disco music tried to cash in on the trend. Many of these songs were buried as a shameful part of pop music past, but how are they as actual songs? With the help of Chris Fox of Ruby Bones (and our theme song!), we listen to disco songs from soul stars, hard rockers, future 80s pop stars, and even Beatles to see if they warrant a positive reevaluation.

It's Bonus Song Thursday! This week the boys in broadcast are tackling yet another duet: Johnny Cash and Fiona Apple! Bill and Brian discuss how it reminds them of a different Johnny Cash partnership from the early 70s, how singular artists like Fiona and Cash are at their best when they "do their own thing" (even when they're working together), and what qualifies as overkill for posthumous recordings. Additionally, they uncover the origins of the mysterious voices on Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedos album, and Bill lists his most representative artists of each decade.
