This Valentine's Day, we invite you to step into one of the most extraordinary love stories in contemporary art — a story where passion became performance and devotion became artistic legacy. In this intimate and thought-provoking episode of Feel Slovenia the podcast, we explore the powerful intersection of love, risk and radical creativity. At its heart is Art Vital, the landmark exhibition at Cukrarna in Ljubljana, which traces the groundbreaking collaborative work of Marina Abramović and Ulay, who were partners in life as much as in art — living nomadically in a van, placing absolute trust in one another and testing the limits of endurance, vulnerability and connection. In this deeply personal conversation, Marina Abramović, arguably the world's most famous living artist, reflects on how they met, how their creative alliance took shape, and what it meant to make art at a time when performance had no market, no clear institutional support and no safety net. What drove them forward was a shared vision — radical, uncompromising and profoundly human. The episode also illuminates Slovenia's vibrant contemporary art landscape — from Moderna galerija and the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova in Ljubljana to the forthcoming museum in Bled — underscoring the country's growing role as a compelling cultural destination in Europe.Feel Slovenia the Podcast is brought to you by the Slovenian Tourist Board and hosted by Dr Noah Charney.Sound Production: Urska Charney For more inspirational content, check out www.slovenia.info and our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Tripadvisor.

Snow here isn't background scenery; it's a way of life. In this episode, we step into Slovenia's winter pulse, where ski jumping is a family ritual, weekends revolve around the forecast, and visitors are welcomed not just as guests, but as participants. From the lively slopes of Kranjska Gora and Krvavec to the serene cross-country trails of Pokljuka and the valley beauty of Jezersko, we explore the most accessible, rewarding ways to ski, glide, sled, and enjoy winter – without the crowds. Two elite athletes, both with their family roots from Gorenjska, a region named among the Best Places to Go in Europe in 2026 by Condé Nast Traveler, guide us through this landscape from opposite sides of the Atlantic.Hockey legend Anže Kopitar, who built his career in the United States, shares what he recommends to friends when they visit Slovenia: basing themselves in Bled or Ljubljana, day-tripping across Gorenjska, and balancing crisp mountain mornings with riverside coffee and Michelin-starred dinners. He reflects on bringing the Stanley Cup to Lake Bled and explains why Slovenia's small size is one of its greatest strengths – where the sea, the Alps, and the capital city are all within easy reach. We also head to Planica, Slovenia's iconic ski-flying valley, where visitors can walk beneath the legendary hill, tour the Nordic Museum, experience indoor skydiving, or zipline across the valley for a ski jumper's-eye view.Slalom racer Lila Lapanja offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at elite alpine skiing. Raised in Lake Tahoe and now competing for Slovenia, she speaks openly about her decision to return to her roots and join the Slovenian national ski team. She shares her personal life story, her strong USA–Slovenia connection, and what it takes to run a lean, independent “Team Lila” – from coaching and ski service to logistics and mental preparation. We dive into race-day details: breathing cues at the start gate, trusting feel as light and ruts shift, and how hundredths of a second can define an entire season. If you're planning a winter holiday, think Slovenia: come for the snow, stay for the culture, and leave with a new respect for mountains that shape everyday life.Enjoyed the show? A counsellor of a support group reveals why some men choose to tolerate physical, emotional and psychological abuse in their marriages. Synopsis: On Wednesdays, The Straits Times takes a hard look at Singapore's social issues of the day with guests. Spousal abuse cases in Singapore rose significantly in 2024 to 2,136, up from 2,008 such cases in 2023, according to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). While official figures did not give a breakdown of these cases by gender, the defamation case of Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard and post-Covid-19 awareness have encouraged more men to step forward, said a counsellor who runs a specialised support group for battered husbands. To find out more in this episode, assistant podcast editor Lynda Hong speaks with Josiah Yeo, a counsellor at Lutheran Community Care Services (LCCS), who started its support group for abused husbands in 2022. Mr Yeo details how one of the abused husbands in the support group was beaten with golf clubs and made to slap himself in public. He was even locked out of the house and made to kowtow in front of the door 30 times, before he could get into his home. Apart from abusive marriages, Mr Yeo also gives some pre-marital advice on what are some red flags to look out for, especially in the dating stage. Highlights (click/tap above): 1:49 Impact of Johnny Depp’s defamation suit on men in Singapore 9:31 When do abused husbands finally walk away from a marriage? 14:05 Why men don’t confide in their friends 18:40 Three reasons men stay in abusive marriage 19:11 Breaking the "bro code": How to check on a friend without making it awkward 32:39 Dating red flags - how to spot a potential abusive spouse Read more on abused spouses: https://str.sg/aqjX Helplines Family violence National Anti-Violence & Sexual Harassment Helpline: 1800-777-0000 (24 hours) AWARE Helpline: 1800-777-5555 (weekdays, 10am to 6pm) Care Corner Project StART: 6476-1482 (weekdays 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm; except public holidays) TOUCH Family Support: 6317-9998 Lutheran Community Care Services: 6441-3906 / connect@lccs.org.sg Mental well-being National Mindline: 1771 (24 hours) / 6669-1771 (via WhatsApp) Samaritans of Singapore: 1-767 (24 hours) / 9151-1767 (24 hours CareText via WhatsApp) Singapore Association for Mental Health: 1800-283-7019 Silver Ribbon Singapore: 6386-1928 Chat, Centre of Excellence for Youth Mental Health: 6493-6500/1 Women’s Helpline (Aware): 1800-777-5555 (weekdays, 10am to 6pm) The Seniors Helpline: 1800-555-5555 (weekdays, 9am to 5pm) Tinkle Friend (for primary school-age children): 1800-2744-788 Counselling Touchline (Counselling): 1800-377-2252 Touch Care Line (for caregivers): 6804-6555 Counselling and Care Centre: 6536-6366 We Care Community Services: 3165-8017 Shan You Counselling Centre: 6741-9293 Clarity Singapore: 6757-7990 Online resources mindline.sg/fsmh eC2.sg chat.mentalhealth.sg carey.carecorner.org.sg (for those aged 13 to 25) limitless.sg/talk (for those aged 12 to 25) Read ST’s Opinion section: https://str.sg/w7sH Host: Lynda Hong (lyndahong@sph.com.sg) Produced and edited by: Hadyu Rahim Executive producers: Ernest Luis & Lynda Hong Follow In Your Opinion Podcast here and get notified for new episode drops: Channel: https://str.sg/w7Qt Apple Podcasts: https://str.sg/wukb Spotify: https://str.sg/w7sV Feedback to: podcast@sph.com.sg SPH Awedio app: https://www.awedio.sg --- Follow more ST podcast channels: All-in-one ST Podcasts channel: https://str.sg/wvz7 Get more updates: http://str.sg/stpodcasts The Usual Place Podcast YouTube: https://str.sg/theusualplacepodcast --- Get The Straits Times app, which has a dedicated podcast player section: The App Store: https://str.sg/icyB Google Play: https://str.sg/icyX --- #inyouropinionSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode explores the architectural legacy of Jože Plečnik beyond Ljubljana and presents him as Slovenia's defining architect and a creator of a distinct national architectural language.Listeners are guided on day trips and longer journeys across Slovenia to discover Plečnik's lesser-known works. The main focus is Kamnik, including the Chapel of the Holy Sepulcher in the Franciscan Church, described as a complete, immersive work of sacred art rich in symbolism, materials, light and craftsmanship. Other works in and around Kamnik include bridges, baptisteries, church renovations, private interiors, and the Royal Hunting Lodge at Kamniška Bistrica. The episode then highlights Plečnik's sensitivity to place in other regions: the Rosary Steps and church renovations in Kranj; a gothic-modern church renovation near Tolmin; the Church of the Holy Spirit in Bogojina in Prekmurje, which blends monumental form with local craft and tradition; funerary architecture in Ljutomer; and unrealised but influential plans in Bled, including the origins of today's Belvedere Pavilion.Throughout, the episode emphasises Plečnik's use of local materials, artisans, symbolism and reuse of existing structures, presenting his architecture as spiritual, human-scaled and deeply rooted in landscape and culture. Explore Slovenia through Plečnik's works outside the capital, one journey at a time! Discover the monumental legacy of Jože PlečnikYou may also wish to listen to another podcast episode dedicated to Plečnik, featuring a conversation with Ana Porok of the Plečnik House Museum and Peter Krečič, former director of the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana.Feel Slovenia the Podcast is brought to you by the Slovenian Tourist Board and hosted by Dr Noah Charney.Sound Production: Urska Charney For more inspirational content, check out www.slovenia.info and our social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Tripadvisor.

Author and screenwriter Sai Marie Johnson flatlined during a high-risk C-section complicated by placenta percreta. While doctors fought to stop catastrophic hemorrhaging, Sai experienced a profound “void, tunnel and light." During her NDE (Near Death Experience) she met and saw her deceased grandmother and great-grandmother. They told her that she had to go back. Above all else, she felt "Every good emotion we can feel on earth, times 5,000!" Goodness and Pure Love. Following her NDE, she woke to a premature son in the NICU, a partial hysterectomy, and 25 transfusions—but also a new clarity that reshaped her confidence, career, and view of death. In this conversation, she unpacks the medical rollercoaster, the otherworldly peace she felt, how she parents two sons with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and the hard-won faith that guides her now. This week we are wearing only black. Not in mourning, but because we must walk in the footsteps of the goatfathers who came before us in respecting small businesses, cultural foodstuffs, and the chain of provenance of the swords of America. As luck would have it, you can also wear black when slamming to the music of Arkansas such as BURNED UP BLED DRY.
In this week's episode of The Long Form, I sit down with Dr. Emile Rwamasirabo — a man whose life mirrors the turbulent history of Rwanda. Born in 1951 in Nyaruguru, he lived through the Kayibanda years, endured exile, trained as a surgeon in France, and then left a comfortable life abroad to join the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) in Uganda. From the battlefields of the liberation war where he treated wounded fighters, to rebuilding Rwanda's shattered health system and leading its biggest hospitals, Dr. Rwamasirabo shares a deeply personal and historical perspective. We talk about exile, sacrifice, state-building, and the lessons of the RPF struggle. For audiences across Rwanda, East Africa, Africa, and the diaspora, this conversation offers a rare look into the journey of a senior RPF cadre and the evolution of Rwanda's politics, medicine, and nationhood.Listen to the Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya podcast on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/rw/podcast/the-long-form-with-sanny-ntayombya/id1669879621Listen to the Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7HkkUi4bUyIeYktQhWOljcFollow Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya on Twitter: https://x.com/TheLongFormRwFollow Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thelongformrw/Follow Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@longformrwFollow Sanny Ntayombya on Twitter: https://x.com/SannyNtayombya About Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya:The Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya is a weekly podcast intent on keeping you up to date with current affairs in Rwanda.

Mary is not just the Mother of Christ. She is the Bride who bled at the Cross. In this episode, we journey into the heart of Our Lady of Sorrows, exploring why she bears so many titles, the deep meaning of her Seven Sorrows, and why this devotion matters for Catholics today. From Scripture to the saints, we see how her pierced heart teaches us to love Christ in suffering and to remain at the foot of the Cross, even when the world turns away. You'll learn:The history and meaning of the title “Our Lady of Sorrows”The Seven Sorrows of Mary and their biblical rootsHow this devotion shapes our spiritual life todayWhy Mary's suffering is not weakness, but nuptial courageWhether you are discovering this devotion for the first time or deepening your love for Mary, this reflection will draw you closer to her Son through her tears, her wounds, and her unwavering “yes.”
This is a clip from our latest Patreon bonus episode, if you'd like to hear our final thoughts on Plečnik in full, please consider subscribing at https://www.patreon.com/about_buildings — the show relies on listener support, and you'll get access to our full back catalogue of bonus episodes. In our final bonus episode on Jože Plečnik, we discussed a few more of his projects, including 'Many Houses under One Roof', a unique unbuilt proposal for mass housing in post-war Ljubljana which imagined a huge colonnaded structure under which houses could be built in heterogenous harmony. We also discussed a pair of pavilions built for a convent in the countryside near Bled in northern Slovenia. The pavilions represent Plečnik's unique interpretations of the 'Primitive Hut' as an architectural form. Lastly, we discussed Plečnik's own house in Ljubljana and reflected on his legacy as one of the most idiosyncratic and surprising architects of the 20th century. Edited by Matthew Lloyd Roberts. In this episode, we uncover the dark side of St. Francis: the prisoner of war with possible PTSD, the mystic who bled with Christ, the man whose body rotted from illness and sacrifice while his brothers betrayed him. This isn't the birdbath saint. This is the saint of wounds, blindness, rot, and song.
“I bled for 127 days, I was the woman with the issue of blood”“I lost 55kg in 14 months and I found God”This episode will show you strength, courage, and peace amidst great adversity. What is the prosperity gospel? Why is it off the mark? Why is a prophet not welcome in his own hometown? Are we supposed to show priority for one type of church or ministry over another? Right now, I feel like I'm being bled dry! Can you pray for me and my marriage? My wife has left, and I don't even know where she is!

Introduction A small subset of hemorrhagic stroke survivors never find out what caused their bleeds. This is call perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage. Although very rare, this episode has three survivors , Alison, Cheryl, and Eryn, who have found each other and have helped each through their recoveries. Having a community that have experienced what you have in your brain really helps you heal. Listen to learn more! SummaryCheryl Divito, Eryn, and Alison discuss their experiences with perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and the challenges they faced. Cheryl shares her story of experiencing a brain bleed while attending her son's graduation and the subsequent hospitalization and recovery process. They discuss symptoms such as headaches, different-sized pupils, and difficulty walking. The conversation also touches on the lack of understanding and support from medical professionals and the importance of finding a community of survivors who can relate to their experiences. Brain injury survivors with rare subtypes of brain bleeds often feel isolated due to the lack of understanding and support. The medical community may not provide adequate follow-up care or address the ongoing symptoms and concerns of these survivors. It is important for survivors to advocate for themselves and seek out the necessary medical care and support. Coping with the fear of recurrence and focusing on positivity and gratitude can help survivors navigate their recovery journey. In this conversation, Cheryl, Alison, and Eryn discuss their experiences with stroke recovery and the importance of finding support and understanding.
