Her mom's death and her dad's drug addictions left Sachiko the one responsible for cooking, cleaning, changing diapers while attending school and "trying desperately to seem normal." "My dad was dealing with his own pain from my Mom's death and became even more addicted to drugs, and became less and less useful. I always knew when we didn't have any money because he would go through withdrawals and not get out of bed for days at a time (and be an absolute terror to be around). He'd send me to buy cigarettes and alcohol, and he would take us along when he finally had money to buy drugs. I would sit in the car and sing at the top of my lungs to distract me and the kids from what was happening. I remember a drug dealer telling me that he could hear me singing and that I was something special - such a strangely vivid memory." Music became a huge outlet for her. "From church and school choirs, to recording songs in our garage on the reel-to-reel recorder my dad set up, music was an integral part of my life. Though many of my memories of my dad are truly painful, I do credit him in a myriad of ways for my love of music and songwriting. It was at the age of 10 that I decided I wanted to be a singer." Part B Hi Pals,  Sean Mulroney became an internet sensation after a video of him working out with his trainer captured the attention of millions of viewers around the world! As the face of The Obesity Revolution, Sean's mission is to help others who have struggled with the stigmas, tough comments (shocking comments you have to hear to believe) and challenges they've had to face. He believes that dreams and hopes are available to all - including those who have struggled with obesity.  The best part about Sean is that he's not waiting until he's lost 500 lbs and "skinny" to share his story - he's sharing the journey as he fights. Partly for accountability and mostly to inspire others that they're not alone - they too can create the shifts they want to see in their lives. It's not perfect - he's not perfect. Part A Hi Pals,  Sean Mulroney became an internet sensation after a video of him working out with his trainer captured the attention of millions of viewers around the world! As the face of The Obesity Revolution, Sean's mission is to help others who have struggled with the stigmas, tough comments (shocking comments you have to hear to believe) and challenges they've had to face. Hi Pals,  This episode, we get into some pretty heavy stuff. I share pieces of my life story and get really candid about what life was like growing up for me. Spoiler alert - it wasn't pretty. Like many others, I discounted myself because of my rough upbringing - assumed that dreams and passions just weren't in the cards for me because I wasn't "fortunate" enough. Looking back, I can now see that my story is an important part of my path toward my dawn. I am grateful for my story - for the passion and grit that it created in me as I fight for my dreams. Hey Pals! All-in-all, the journey toward the "Dawn" - toward dreams and goals and passions - MUST involve mistakes. It's a part of the process and the journey almost needs the mistakes in order to unfold. So, even though I'd love for you to avoid them as much as possible, I also would love for you to embrace and welcome them. As long as we're continuing to move toward our dreams, just 4% at a time, the mistakes might even be the best parts of your story! I don't claim to be an expert. In fact, I'm sorta anti-expert here. Hey Pals! Start along this journey with me, Sachiko Tiana, as we discuss why I absolutely HAD to start a podcast about dreams that highlights the everyday struggle.
