The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- It's Friday in the summer—and Rich is actually here doing a show LIVE! That's two weeks in a row, for anyone counting.  3:10pm- On Thursday, podcasters Joe Rogan and Russell Brand seemingly endorsed Independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. for president. Given their large, dedicated fan bases will their endorsements carry enough weight to impact the election in any way? And did Rogan officially endorse him? Or were his comments misconstrued?   3:15pm- Clear Choice, a political action committee that is closely aligned with the Democrat Party, is actively seeking to remove Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from state ballots—beginning in New York. The PAC argues that Kennedy lied about his Katonah, New York home address and, consequently, his signature collection campaign and ballot access should be invalidated.  3:40pm- According to the Washington Post, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke with former president Donald Trump last month—prior to Joe Biden's withdraw from the race—about endorsing Trump's campaign in exchange for an appointment within a hypothetical Trump administration. Josh Dawsey and Michael Scherer reported Kennedy wanted to oversee “a portfolio of health and medical issues” but that the “Trump campaign ultimately rejected the offer.” If Kennedy's presence is inadvertently helping Kamala Harris in swing states, will Trump's campaign pursue an agreement that leads to Kennedy's withdraw and endorsement? In a recently unearthed clip, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz states: “We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, is the only place where those weapons are out.” Despite the statement, Walz has never seen combat—retiring from the National Guard before he would have deployed to Iraq.

Similarly, UK Police Commissioner Mark Rowley has threatened to extradite and imprison American citizens over online posts. With Democrat Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz having stated that the First Amendment shouldn't extend to speech the government considers “misinformation” or “hate speech,” could similar laws restricting speech be part of the Harris-Walz campaign's platform? 4:40pm- During an interview on CNN, Scotland's former Prime Minister Humza Yousaf accused Elon Musk of being “evil” and trying to start a Civil War. In response, he called for heavy government involvement in regulation. 4:55pm- Did Matt just play the worst return music in the history of The Rich Zeoli Show? 5:00pm- Jessie Jane Duff—Gunnery Sergeant U.S. Marine Corps (ret), 2024 Campaign Executive Director Veterans for Trump, & Ambassador America First Policy Institute—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Kamala Harris's unwillingness to speak with the press. Plus, is the controversy surrounding Tim Walz's exaggerated military record about to disappear anytime soon? Absolutely not! Duff emphasizes that Walz openly lied about “serving in combat” and benefited from the lie by being elected to office. 5:35pm- Donald Trump's plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Billings, Montana due to a mechanical failure. The plane, thankfully, landed safely and Trump remains scheduled to speak at Montana State University on Friday night. 5:40pm- Dr. Victoria Coates—Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss her latest op-ed for Fox News, “America's Reckless Iran Policy Has Middle East On Brink Of War. Keilar baselessly claimed Vance exaggerated his own military record and was a “combat correspondent” for the US Marine Corps—inaccurately suggesting the position isn't dangerous. Vance responded on social media: “Brianna this is disgusting, and you and your entire network should be ashamed of yourselves. When I got the call to go to Iraq, I went. Tim Walz said he carried a gun in a war. Did he? No. It was a lie.” 6:30pm- Kamala Harris FINALLY answers questions from the press…for less than 90 seconds. If we are being honest, she didn't answer anything that could objectively be considered “difficult.” She did say she would like to participate in her first interview since becoming the Democrat Party's presidential nominee by the end of the month, but offered no specifics or guarantees. When will the press hold her accountable for running away from questions and the press?  Will she ever be held accountable for her past advocation of dangerous, far-left policies? 6:40pm- Luke Rosiak of The Daily Wire writes: “Virginia this week removed more than 6,300 non-citizens from the state's voter rolls as part of election security measures spearheaded by Gov. Glenn Youngkin. On Wednesday, Youngkin signed an executive order instructing the Department of Elections to remove ‘non-citizens who may have purposefully or accidentally registered to vote.' Pursuant to the order, the state also identified and removed from voter rolls 79,867 deceased voters, and identified registered voters who had moved out of state.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-removes-more-than-6000-non-citizens-from-voter-rolls 6:50pm- On Meet the Press NOW, NBC News Washington Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor and host Ryan Nobles noted that Kamala Harris has refused to engage with the media and that the “grace period” is quickly running out.

A non-profit from Oregon that specializes in finding missing people has come to Westchester to search for a mother and her two children who disappeared in 1977. Doug Bishop, with United Search Corps, heard about the case of Leslie Guthrie and Julie, 6, and Timmy, 3, who disappeared from Katonah 47 years ago. "Everything points to in this case it simply being an accident," Bishop said. Police said on February 5, 1977, Leslie drove away with her two children from her house in Katonah and was never seen again. Leslie's husband, Tim Guthrie, said he buckled his kids in the backseat and waved goodbye. "I helped her put the kids in the car and they drove off and that was the last I saw them," he said. "I always think of them and where they are." Bishop's theory - a theory that law enforcement has also long believed - is that Leslie's car is in one of the many bodies of water in and around Katonah. On a snowy day in February 1977, Leslie Guthrie left her home in suburban New York in a car with her two small children. They were never seen again. Leslie's family says just before they disappeared, Leslie was having marital problems. Could Leslie have taken Julie, 6, and Timmy, 3, and started a new life? Could they have joined a cult -- something Leslie had been reading into? Could their car have gone off the road and sunk deep to the bottom of one of the many murky bodies of water surrounding her house in Katonah? Leslie's family and Tim Guthrie Sr., Leslie's husband, have gone in circles for 46 years trying to answer those questions. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Leslie Guthrie has a strawberry birthmark on her chin and on her back. They were last seen driving a green 1974 Ford Maverick with a white roof and the New York State license plate 636-WNA. Can Eyewitness News investigative reporter Kristin Thorne help the family zero in on one of the theories and lead them to Leslie, Julie, and Timmy? Learn more about your ad choices. Sculptor rejoins wood left by the wayside How did a Brooklyn girl get so attached to the woods? For Loren Eiferman, it took hold at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. "I took a class each week, then wandered the halls; the African and South American collections with their totem poles, the extraordinary Egyptian wing, the Georgia O'Keefe watercolors, it all resonated so deeply," she says. Soon after, she moved to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, into an apartment with three tiny rooms. "It was August and so hot, but I turned my bedroom into my studio and made large oil paintings with gesso, 5-by-4 feet, but nothing would dry in the humidity." So she started whittling balsa. "I'm wired to be constantly creating things," she recalls. "After eight hours went by, I found I had made this totem pole and thought, 'Oh my god, I'm a sculptor, not a painter.' " Eiferman began collecting sticks in Central Park and bringing them home on the subway. Friends who had cars drove her to the woods. Some of the results will be on display at the BAU Gallery in Beacon, starting with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 10), as part of a two-person show with Midori Furutate called Alchemy/Paper and Sticks. Eiferman says a big shift in her work came when she realized she was more interested in the shape of the wood, not just its utility as something to carve. "I learned that I wanted the wood and the shapes to speak for themselves," she says. She explains her technique: "I start each day collecting tree limbs and sticks; I never chop down a living tree or use green wood. Next, I debark the branch and look for shapes within each piece of wood. I cut and join these shapes. The open joints get filled with homemade putty and sanded. This process usually needs to be repeated at least three times." Each sculpture includes 100 to 200 pieces of joined wood and takes at least a month to build, she says. Or, as she notes, "it's taken a lifetime to make them all." She hopes that viewers "have a sense of wonder and awe when looking at my work. We have all at one point or another picked up a stick from the ground, touched the wood, peeled the bark off with our fingernails. My work taps into that primal desire to touch nature and be close to it. "The sculpture under construction appears like my line drawings but in space," she adds. "I am interested in having my work appear as if it grew in nature. It's the ultimate recycling, where I take detritus and give it a new life." Eiferman, who has a BFA from SUNY Purchase, takes a walk every morning from her Katonah home in search of material. She says her influences include the patterns in nature and plant life, images beamed back by the Hubble space telescope; ancient Buddhist mandalas and quantum physics. Together with exhibiting this work at galleries, corporate collections and alternative art spaces, Eiferman has had quite a few interesting commissions, including one from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan for seven sculpted clay heads honoring women who started or influenced a world religion, and a 2014 piece for the Pelham Metro-North station in which she created a metal sculpture based on the William Morris Arts and Crafts decorative movement. "There was a serious learning curve for that one," she says. Eiferman is currently taking inspiration from the Voynich manuscript, which was written in a now-unknown language in the early 15th century and is filled with drawings of plants that don't exist. For the past eight years, she's been translating the images into sculptures. Another source of inspiration are the photographs of plants by Karl Blossfeldt. She is not afraid to experiment. "I needed to finish off a sculpture with something translucent, with some stretch to it: I used pantyhose!" she says. "There's always a discovery - new things are afoot!" The BAU Gallery, at 506 Main St. in Beacon, is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. See baugallery.org and loreneifermanart.com. The...

[13:26] TAOU Is Offering A Series of Katonah Yoga Trainings Breaking the training into smaller bite sized chunks.  There is so much to learn about the connection of mind/body so focusing on smaller parts is important.   The magic square = the body is a home. Asking yourself questions for how to deepen your connection to your life. [16:22] Putting Yourself In The Center of Your Dream  Having patience to put everything in practice and give yourself time for things to materialize.  Not giving up on your own vision and dream.  Realizing you will still get tripped up. Putting theory into practice helps you see if your vision is really for you. Your practice is up to you, you get to decide what your practice teaches you and what is revealed to you. Katie says that every time she comes to the practice, the questions are the same but the answers are allowed to shift which feels free. [23:01] Kat and Katie Are Mirrors for Each Other  Spending more time together they found out small similarities they have. Helping each other take concepts and make them 3D. Katie and Kat play off each other and it feels easy and effortless. [24:46] TAOU As a Space For Freedom Kat tells a story about her dream of having a studio that encompasses art, movement and supporting other people. Kat wants to break yoga out of a box, it can be innovated from the root of the practice. There were obstacles in the way when Kat was trying to open other studios, before opening TAOU. People take things really seriously and make us feel small, which can limit our dreams. Sometimes curve balls prove our limiting beliefs to ourselves. Katonah helped Kat change her life. [27:29] If Katie Hadn't Shaved Her Head, TAOU Wouldn't Have Opened Katie and Kat went to a training last summer for Katonah Yoga.  2016 was a huge year for Katie, where she got her yoga teacher training as well as got inspired to become a massage therapist.  At Vitality Float Spa, Katie was inspired to massage. At the beginning of 2022, Katie shaved her head. If she hadn't shaved her head, TAOU wouldn't have opened. Katie needed to shake things up to try something new for her professsional life. She couldn't put herself in the center of her work. Kat texted Katie in the middle of her deeper shadow work of trying to figure out her next professional step. Katie had the courage to step away from Vitality, building her confidence and taking the first step. [31:29] Following The Bread Crumb Trail to Bigger Life Changes It's impactful to ask smaller questions to get to a bigger new direction. Options only matter if you trust yourself to make a new choice.  Last year was the year of stepping into something to take a risk, feel powerful and believing in ourselves. [34:44] The Woo-Woo Is Related to Observable Science  Katie and Kat sometimes feel skeptical and question everything.  Healthy skepticism is good for us.  The "right" way vs what feels good to the individual. Do you think yoga is for everyone? Katie and Kat don't think so. Everything is a practice: cooking, sex, tennis, yoga, and life. It's a tool to help you to discover yourself. What is the correct tool? [39:24] Imitate, Integrate, Innovate Make your practice work for you.  Eventually, you no longer need the teacher because you make your practice your own. Return home to yourself. Unlock doors and go somewhere different. Elise wants to also break out of the box that social work tries to put her in professionally. [42:37] The Importance of Community Getting to know each other is the point of gathering in classes.   Eye contact as an intimate practice. Making friends as an adult isn't as hard as we make it out to be sometimes. Leading by example to join people together and feel more comfortable practicing together. Embracing yourself leads to embracing other people. How to make TAOU a community space is a huge prirority for Kat and Katie. [47:02] Exciting Offerings on the Horizon  TAOU is going to Portugal in early March. Spots for this retreat are full but there will be more retreats to stay tuned about in the future.  Trainings are coming up in the studio: Yin, and 2 Katonah trainings this year. Anyone interested in deepening their yoga practice can come to the trainings. Use what you learn in yoga off the mat. [51:11] Where To Connect With TAOU  www.taoustudio.com  Instagram: @taou_studio   Wisdom comes from asking yourself questions to get the answer.  Enjoyed this Episode About The Art Of Us? In this episode, we discuss: How the world and yoga are open sourced. Vocabulary and framework of Daoist vs Indian yoga. The yoga technique doesn’t matter. What matters is that it is well done, that you have the skills and get it all into integrity (mind, body, breath). Useful metaphors and maps to define, understand and explore the territory of our bodies. Mystical practices, such as yoga, are practical and pragmatic. Participate in the awe. Speak the language of the spirit, play with math; the universal language that transcends the cultural. Music is math. Yoga is music. Visit  https://www.katonahyoga.com/about for the resources referenced in this podcast. Nevine Michaan, Founder and creator of Katonah Yoga possesses a gift for teaching the physical and esoteric aspects of yoga. Many consider her a philosopher, a poet; a seer. Her teaching methods are articulated intelligently with meaning and metaphor. Nevine's practical approach entwines the body, the breath and the imagination. Her unique dialogue and insight are matched by her extraordinary ability to convey and communicate her keen acumen. Michaan, born in Egypt in 1954, moved to New York at the age of three. In her early 20’s while studying history and comparative religion at Vassar College she discovered meditation. Nevine understood that there is a function(s), a formality and a fit to the universe and that yoga is a tool, a technique–a practice with repetition which gives us the opportunity to participate in life intelligently and joyfully. Nevine started a daily practice in NYC with renowned yoga instructor Allan Bateman, in the 1970s. She became fully immersed in what would become her life’s work(s). She began teaching Yoga in 1980 and founded the Katonah Yoga Center in Katonah, New York in 1986. Nevine continues to teach in her studio in Bedford Hills, NY and to inspire those both near and far, of all ages and backgrounds.

In this episode, Josie tells how she transitioned from her career in hair to her career in yoga after her first 200 hour teacher training in Costa Rica and how showing up and do the doing, (even when you don’t feel like it) played a key role in her transition. We discuss listening to your intuition, knowing when it’s time move on, grow, and expand, taking care of yourself, and setting boundaries. Welcome to one of the most heart felt, humbling, vulnerable and powerful conversation we've had on The Live Journal Podcast, as Liza Fenster - a woman whom I adore and admire - shares her life experiences, and how the hardships faced during childhood and teenage hood shaped the healing conduit she is today. Liza is a NY based Reiki Master Teacher and Tarot reader that works under the moniker of Crow Mother. She offers a combined 20 years of study and experience in service to a local and global community, and it is her highest honor to do so. I've had the pleasure of getting to know Liza this past year, and did Reiki I training with her guidance. Listen in, get inspired, feel the love, and If you'd like to know more about her services you please go to thecrowmother.com , or @crow..mother on Instagram. LIZA'S FAVORITES My “keep my sanity” essentials are pretty simple but I cherish them so much! I love to get a few minutes of alone time in the morning when I walk our dog to get coffee while my husband gets our son up and sorted. I have a daily mantra meditation practice that has become meaningful and grounding, and I also reaaallllyyyy love to go to Great Jones Spa for a soak and a facial every month or two.  My non negotiable self care tool is the very necessary act of literally unplugging for a bit a bit at the end of the day. It absolutely “saves me” to be in a quiet house with no noise, no tv or phone, low lights and little to no talking. It's not all evening, but there is usually at least an hour or so when I make this possible.  My favorite form of movement is yoga, specifically the Katonah practice. I'm a Vata dosha, so it's not advisable for me to do lots of high impact activity (I *am* a high impact activity) and this study of yoga helps my body stretch and strengthen, while also cooling my mind.  The best advice I think I've gotten from someone is from a mentor I had a long time ago. She often reminded me to just “be where my feet are” and that “what was for me, would always be for me” and when I can really practice that, so much energy is freed up to just BE, instead of worrying what else I should be doing or worrying about what other people are doing. It reminds to stay in my lane. And when I do that, beautiful things happen.  In Light, Liza Fenster

“The political is personal. The personal is practical. The practical is related to embodied daily life” Dages and Matt sit down to discuss her evolving role as a yoga teacher, author and radical feminist. New York is where Dages found Katonah Yoga and her teacher Nevine Michaan, but she has taken what she learned across the pond to her new home in Paris, France and continues to plant seeds across Europe with her teacher trainings and intensives. For Dages, Katonah Yoga is an open source methodology that can be applied to any yoga practice and to life, a “Philosophical Milieu” of embodiment. Matt and Dages explore the importance of “learning to play your own instrument”, of recognizing and working with our “first and second natures”, so that we can play well with others. Yoga means union, or to yoke, and by knowing our own habits, tendencies, perspectives and biases, we are able to join the orchestra. “We have to listen to each other, we have to see each other, we have to touch eachother — otherwise there is no opportunity for the symphony to come together”. This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Daniel S. Lobel, PhD author of When Your Daughter Has BPD: Essential Skills to Help Families Manage Borderline Personality Disorder About the book: In this groundbreaking book, psychologist Daniel Lobel offers essential skills based in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help you understand your daughter’s disorder, define appropriate boundaries, put an end to daily emergencies, and rebuild the family’s structure from the ground up. If you have a daughter with borderline personality disorder (BPD), you may feel frustration, shame, and your family may be at the breaking point dealing with angry outbursts, threats, and constant emergencies. You may even feel guilty for not enjoying spending time with your child—but how can you when her behavior is abusive toward you and the rest of your family? You need solid skills you can use now to help your daughter and hold your family together. In this important guide, you’ll learn real solutions and strategies based in proven-effective DBT and CBT to help you weather the storm of BPD and restore a sense of normalcy and balance in your life. You’ll find an overview of BPD so you can better understand the driving forces behind your daughter’s difficult behavior. What do Indian Hatha yoga, Taoist principles, Chinese medicine, and sacred geometry have in common? They all make up the core of this insanely transformative style of yoga known as Katonah. And our guest in this paradigm- bending episode has been teaching and practicing this esoteric form of yoga in New York for twenty-five years. If you've practiced this style of yoga, you already get it. Just click play and listen to Abbie break it all down. If you've not yet experienced this form (or any form for that matter) of yoga, then keep reading about my recent personal experience that led to the recording of this episode. I discovered Katonah Yoga and Abbie Galvin on a recent podcast tour of New York City, at the recommendation of a Life Stylist listener that I happened to meet at a sound bath at The Woom Center, a few doors down from Abbie's studio on Bowery. I signed up for my first Katonah class online that night, then dropped into The Studio the next morning- and I haven't been the same since. Having been a practitioner of various styles of yoga for twenty years, I was expecting some version of a typical yoga flow class that day. What I experienced in Abbie's class was nothing less than incredible. It became quickly evident that this class was more of an intense, small-scale workshop than another teacher-led Hatha flow. This was spiritual science in the flesh. It was physical and emotional transformation, using a seemingly mystical amalgam of various teachings all at once. Using chairs, blocks, blankets, and various other props, Abbie led me and my body through postures and poses that I would have previously thought impossible. This practice had depth, and a seemingly endless potential for expansion. I was sold. So immediately following class I bum rushed Abbie for an interview, to which she graciously agreed. In this episode, Abbie does what only a great master teacher can do: Take nonlinear, universal principles of truth, and distill them down into practical terms in a relatable, simple vernacular. This interview is an exploration into not only the art and magic of Katonah yoga, but of life itself. Its a celebration of the ancient wisdom that has no attainable destination. That’s why it’s called a practice. No matter how hard you try, you never quite arrive. And that’s the true beauty of the journey. Enjoy the ride, Luke For more about this episode Topics Discussed on today's Episode: How and when did Abbie find Katonah yoga, and what is it about? Other forms of yoga she’s practiced, and the current state of affairs in the yoga scene at large The fact that the purpose of yoga was originally intended to prepare the body for meditation Her belief that most yogic movement is not inherently natural to humans  Why she believes the concept of origami folding is more powerful than simply stretching  The importance of strengthening the nervous system to deal with the day to day stresses of life  How the patterns in the body directly mimic patterns in nature  Why Katonah yoga mixes Taoist Chinese theory and indian hatha yoga, and how that actually happened in the first place How the Taoist principles of pattern, and Yin and Yang and nature play into the Katonah practice  The role that sacred geometry plays in Katonah Why are chairs used as the various props used in this practice, and why are they so crucial to its effectiveness? What sort of physical transformations Abbie has seen in all of her years as a teacher? The science behind joint function, and how they relate to the human skeleton and structure, and how Katonah yoga makes your bones stronger How the the body’s organ systems are effected by this practice?  Why community, and teacher/student support and interaction is so crucial to the practice  How Katonah yoga uses various props to create scaffolding to retrain the body’s structure throughout the postures The purpose of yogic breathwork, and its effect on the body How to live your life as a yoga practice, rather than leaving it on the mat, and why she believes yoga is not exercise  How does Katonah yoga effect people’s sexuality? Taoist Manimal Podcast Ep. 37 Emile Sorger Emile sees movement as a discipline, a conversation and a celebration of being. He began in the womb of his mother as a mysterious intelligence assembled his body in a profoundly elegant and organized way. Emile's childhood was characterized by inexhaustible physical energy coupled with a very serious interest in stillness and introspection, exemplified by his proclivity for climbing trees and sitting for long stretches in their highest branch. His formal yoga training began in 2005 at Goucher College where he studied yoga asana alongside meditation and religious philosophy. Since then he has studied meditation in India, Tibetan Buddhism in the Himalayas, Yoga Asana and Capoiera in Baltimore, Handbalancing in Philadelphia and New York, more meditation in the hills of Virginia, geometrically based and mythically infused yoga in Manhattan and the Ido Portal method in Manayunk. Emile’s biggest influences include Kim Manfredi and Will Walter of Charm City Yoga, Nevine Michaan of Katonah, Marcy Vaughn of The Three Doors, Lin Junming of the Fu Jian Circus, Johnny Sapinoso of the Ido Portal method, the Iceman Wim Hof, his brothers in yoga Noah Julian, Johnathan Raiss and Ari Halbert, his sister in dance Lily Kind and the cosmic inner guru that permeates all matter. Emile’s classes integrate traditional yoga sequencing and creative movement with contemporary mythology, music and inspiration with the aim of creating a space in which students can discover and express themselves in their individual and universal form. Parents are often wary of the role of a child specialist in the divorce process. They don’t want to put their children in a difficult position, and the divorcing couple may be under the mistaken impression that the child specialist is there to do a forensic evaluation and make custody recommendations. Rather, it is the job of a child specialist to empower the children in the collaborative process, giving voice to their needs and concerns. Dr. Lauren Behrman is a clinical psychologist, child specialist, mediator, collaborative divorce professional and parent coordinator. She has offices in White Plains, Katonah and Midtown Manhattan, where she provides divorce services that include parent coordination, co-parent counseling, neutral child specialist and divorce coach in the collaborative setting. Working in private practice since 1985, Lauren has considerable professional experience in treating children and families of divorce. She is committed to helping families facing challenges and transitions in life and relationships. Today, Lauren sits down with Katherine to address the role of a child specialist, explaining how they serve to empower children in the divorce process. She shares her process in first establishing trust with both parents before meeting with the children to get a picture of what they are experiencing. Lauren speaks to the value of giving children a voice in the collaborative process and the common concerns that come up. Listen in for insight around lowering the level of conflict during the divorce process and learn why children from low-conflict divorced families do better than children in high-conflict families that remain intact. Topics Covered The misconceptions around the role of a child specialist How the child specialist empowers children in the collaborative process The child specialist’s initial communication to develop trust with parents • Meet in-person with both parties together, then individually • Discuss how to prepare children for process How Lauren addresses the children in her role as child specialist • Speak at developmental age, stage • Develop rapport (e.g.: hobbies, teams) • Get picture of what’s affecting children How Lauren reassures kids that their concerns will be presented in a neutral way How young adults are attuned to the dynamics of their parents’ marriage How to separate your own needs from the needs of your children The value of giving children a voice in the divorce process What questions children ask Lauren during the process Why nesting only works with low-conflict, mature parents Why divorcing parents should focus on lowering the level of conflict Connect with Dr. Lauren Behrman Lauren’s Website: http://laurenbehrmanphd.com/ Email laurenbehrman@gmail.com Call (914) 288-8428 Connect with Katherine Miller The Center for Understanding Conflict: http://understandinginconflict.org/ Miller Law Group: https://westchesterfamilylaw.com/ Katherine on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/kemiller1 The New Yorker’s Guide to Collaborative Divorce by Katherine Miller: https://www.amazon.com/New-Yorkers-Guide-Collaborative-Divorce/dp/0692496246 Email: katherine@westchesterfamilylaw.com Call (914) 738-7765

Process choice can be tricky. Most of us would like to avoid the courtroom if at all possible, but how do mediation and collaboration work? How do you determine which divorce model is right for your circumstances? And when is it appropriate to choose litigation? Melissa Goodstein has extensive experience in both mediation and the collaborative divorce process. She has been practicing mediation since 1993, and she received her training in the collaborative model in 2003. Her practice is located in Katonah, New York. Melissa serves on the New York State Council of Divorce Mediation, the Greater New York Council of Family and Divorce, the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals as well as the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. Today, Melissa joins Katherine to discuss the roles comfort and willingness play in determining which process choice is the right fit. She walks us through the mediation process, explaining the confidential nature of this method and the necessity for both divorcing partners to feel comfortable speaking their truth. Melissa addresses how the collaborative divorce process differs and why each party has an attorney-advocate to help communicate their values and employ creative problem-solving to reach an agreement. Listen in to find out which cases are appropriate for the litigation model and learn when mediation or the collaborative process might be more fitting. Topics Covered How process choice is based on the couple’s comfort and willingness Why participants have more control outside the courtroom setting What the mediation process looks like • Mediator serves as neutral to guide conversation • Only three people in room (typically) How the mediation process is shielded from the public eye How the collaborative divorce process differs from mediation • Based on same principles • Each party has attorney-advocate The lawyer’s role in helping collaborative clients communicate values The value in agreeing to reach a settlement without litigation Melissa’s insight on collaborative law as a service profession How the collaborative process allows for creative problem-solving The cases that are appropriate for the litigation model • Domestic violence • Non-disclosure of assets • Refusal to cooperate Connect with Melissa Goodstein Melissa’s Website: https://melissagoodstein.com/ Phone (914) 767-0438 Connect with Katherine Miller The Center for Understanding Conflict: http://understandinginconflict.org/ Miller Law Group: https://westchesterfamilylaw.com/ Katherine on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/kemiller1 The New Yorker’s Guide to Collaborative Divorce by Katherine Miller: https://www.amazon.com/New-Yorkers-Guide-Collaborative-Divorce/dp/0692496246 Email: katherine@westchesterfamilylaw.com Call (914) 738-7765

When Alisa Weilerstein came to the WQXR Café, it was during the epic cold blast that gripped New York, sending residents scurrying indoors while impairing string instruments with wayward pitch. Yet after a thorough warm-up, the cellist launched into soulful renditions of solo works by Osvaldo Golijov and J.S. Bach and the icy temps may have receded into memory. Weilerstein, who is a 2011 recipient of the MacArthur "Genius" grant and a busy touring artist, performed what she described as "one of the most beloved pieces for cello," the Gigue from Bach's Cello Suite No. 3: Thoughts about the weather were further put aside when Weilerstein brought up her latest recording, an all-Dvorak affair that includes the Cello Concerto along with several miniatures (read more and get a free download here). She recorded the concerto last summer in Prague with the Czech Philharmonic. "There’s a kind of warmth and depth to their playing which I found very unique,” she said of the orchestra's sound. Weilerstein spent a day at Dvorak’s 18th-century house on the outskirts of Prague where she performed beneath a portrait of Josefina Čermakova, the composer’s sister-in-law who died at any early age. The composer dedicated the third movement of his Cello Concerto to Čermakova, with whom he fell in love (it was not returned though and he eventually married her younger sister). Weilerstein then stayed for a photo shoot in the adjacent woods – that portrayed in his work From the Bohemian Forest. The Dvorak Concerto has another significance for Weilerstein. In February 2009 she played the piece as part of an audition for Gustavo Dudamel. Ten months later, she was invited to play it with the conductor's Simon Bolivar Orchestra in Caracas. The performance was a hit, and led to a spontaneous invitation to join the orchestra on a Venezuelan tour. There she encountered Rafael Payare, a young conductor who also played French horn in the ensemble. A relationship emerged and, last August, Weilerstein and Payare got married at the Caramoor Center in Katonah, NY. Their wedding, which was featured in the New York Times, came just two months after her trip to Prague. The couple appear to be developing a professional relationship too: this week, Weilerstein and Payare are performing the Brahms Double Concerto together in Hamburg, Germany (Weilerstein is scheduled to perform the Dvorak Concerto in December with the New York Philharmonic). Below, Weilerstein performs Osvaldo Golijov’s Omaramor, a fantasia inspired by the legendary tango singer Carlos Gardel. “The cello is supposed to be walking through the streets of Buenos Aires," Weilerstein explained in lightly accented English. "Sometimes it’s melancholic, sometimes it’s very rough, sometimes very reflective. It’s a piece that I’ve played a lot over the past eight years and one that’s really important to be in the core cello repertoire."
