Scripture can become a weapon in the hands of the ultra-certain. As if every pain or suffering is part of “God’s divine plan.” So how should we understand and apply the Bible to our real lives with our real-life problems? NT Wright, a New Testament scholar, is a trusted expert to help us understand what truths resound across time and circumstance and which don’t. In this conversation, Kate and Tom dig in especially on Romans 8:28 which is the Pauline version of EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. Is that what Paul intended to say? Is there maybe another, more life-giving way to interpret it instead? Kate and NT Wright also discuss: The importance of lament as a response to the human condition Why we have such a low tolerance for uncertainty Which scripture to turn to when life comes apart (and which to avoid) What our response should be to others who are in pain or experiencing tragedy This is a bit of a Bible-nerd out, but I would trust no one else to help us better make sense of where is God when we’re suffering than NT Wright. In this episode, we catch up and discuss what coming home feels like. Hanna has been traveling for a month and a half, and Jack has been recovering from a cold and is back to life :) In The Hot Seat section of the podcast, we discuss our relationship today; what works well and what we can work on. Hanna challenges the status quo with a surprising question: what if one of us meets someone new? On the yogic front, we discuss the myth “Everything Happens For A Reason” and why Yoga Anatomy is important.
Have you ever found solace in the phrase "everything happens for a reason" during challenging times? Challenging this comforting belief, we probe into its potential to misinterpret divine intentions. Does everything really happen for a reason? Is it part of a divine plan, or is it simply the result of our free will? To answer these questions, we dive into the biblical story of Joseph. Despite being sold into slavery, falsely accused, and wrongfully imprisoned, Joseph's life serves as a testament to how God can turn despair into grace, using even the worst of situations for good. Finally, we draw hope from God's love, as reflected in the promise found in Romans 8:28. In our darkest hours, it's vital to remember that God does not author suffering, but can use it for good. This episode encourages us to find hope in the divine, reassuring us of God's unwavering presence in our lives. So, join us in this enlightening episode as we reassess a popular phrase and find hope in our faith. Let's navigate these reflections together, reassured by God's ever-pervasive love.Support the show

We love the theologian Kate Bowler's allergy to every platitude and her wisdom and wit about the strange and messy fullness of what it means to be in a human body. She's best known for her 2018 book Everything Happens for a Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved) — a poetic and powerful reflection on learning at age 35 that she had Stage IV colon cancer. From a reset on how to think about aging, to the new reality in our time of living with cancer as a chronic illness, to the telling of truths to our young, this beautiful conversation is full of the vividly whole humanity that Kate Bowler singularly embodies. (Also, as you'll hear, if she hadn't become a theologian, she might have been a stand-up comedian.)Krista and Kate spoke as part of the 2023 Aspen Ideas Festival.Kate Bowler's beloved books include Everything Happens for a Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved) and most recently, The Lives We Actually Have: 100 Blessings for Imperfect Days. She is an associate professor at Duke Divinity School and made an early name in her field of American religious history with her 2013 book Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel. She also hosts the podcast Everything Happens.Find the transcript for this show at onbeing.org._____Sign up for The Pause — a Saturday morning companion to the podcast season.

The purpose of human life is to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others.Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.Do not lose heart, even if you must wait a bit before finding the right thing. Be prepared for disappointment also, but do not abandon the quest.Eventually, all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.A good example has twice the value of good advice. The only thing of importance, when we depart, will be the traces of love we have left behind.Wherever you turn, you can find someone who needs you. Even if it is a little thing, do something for which there is no pay but the privilege of doing it. Remember, you don't live in a world all of your own.If you own something you cannot give away, then you don't own it, it owns you.I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve. At that point in life where your talent meets the needs of the world, that is where God wants you to be.The path of awakening is not about becoming who you are. Rather, it is unbecoming who you are not.Constant kindness can accomplish much. As the sun makes ice melt, kindness causes misunderstanding, mistrust, and hostility to evaporate.Let your life be your argument. At 20 everyone has the face that God gave them, at 40 the face that life gave them, and at 60 the face they earned.Love is the only thing that increases twofold every time it is shared. My Video: Quotes Albert Schweizer https://youtu.be/VECizdRKebEMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast3/Quotes-Albert-Schweizer.mp3
Show Time, enjoy this week's episode hosted by Spanish DJ & Producer KIKO NAVARRO. Carving out an enviable reputation across the globe for his distinctive and highly personal brand of House music, Kiko Navarro's voyage of sonic discovery has been going strong for almost three decades now. Born in Mallorca, Kiko's sound reflects the sun-drenched, slow living atmosphere of the Balearic island he still calls home. Obsessed from an early age with the more soulful side of US House music, Navarro's DJ skills soon attracted the attention of nightlife behemoth Pacha who offered him club residencies both in Palma and in Ibiza. Next came a monthly gig at Space Ibiza and the rest, as they say, is history. Despite having been DJing for more than a quarter of a century, Kiko Navarro is constantly growing and developing his style; it's an approach that keeps him in constant demand at some of the most prestigious nightclubs on the planet. From London to the Far East, Kiko has travelled the far and wide with his music, embracing sounds from each continent as he goes. Equally at home on festival stages at Southport Weekender and Southern Soul Festival or in some dark, underground sweat-box, Kiko's passion is palpable; his music selection is impeccable. Inspired by his experiences as a DJ, Kiko Navarro brought a multitude of influences into the studio as he began to master the art of production. Underpinned by his obvious devotion to House music, Kiko's love of afro-latin sounds has been evident in his feel-good, dance-floor oriented productions since the very beginning. His connection to Pacha led to several releases on the label as well as a mixed compilation ‘The Latin Sound Of Pacha' which was issued on Tommy Boy records in 2001. Working with many of the world's most respected imprints such as Local Talk, King Street Sounds and Osunlade's Yoruba Records attracted an impressive list of top flight DJs to Kiko's music, ranging all the way from Gilles Peterson on one end of the musical spectrum to Jeff Mills on the other. Following several busy years spent touring the world as the official DJ for the Ducati Marlboro Moto GP Team, Kiko locked himself away in the studio, emerging in 2017 with a new solo album: ‘Everything Happens For A Reason'. Released on BBE Records, a label renowned for quality music of all shades, the album is gaining plaudits from across the musical community thanks to its warmth, originality and soul. Ten years on from his debut LP ‘Perceptions', Kiko revisited its biggest hit ‘Soñando Contigo', creating a brand new ‘Orchestral' version for 2017 and in the process paying homage to the track that made him famous. Featuring special guest appearances from DJ Spen, Concha Buika, Boris Dlugosch and Julie McKnight, ‘Everything Happens For A Reason' displays each shade of Kiko's musical palette in vivid Technicolor. A true Renaissance Man; now also a family man, today's Kiko Navarro is perhaps even more focused and dedicated to his life in music than ever before. An album tour this year will see him play DJ sets in Italy, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Japan, South Korea, China with many more to be confirmed. Whether in the studio crafting records or in the club controlling the dance-floor, Kiko's musical mission has become the habit of a lifetime. Enjoy this Afro House special journey with the one & only KIKO NAVARRO live from Tel Aviv! N/A This show is syndicated & distributed exclusively by Syndicast. Message by Mike Malmin, "Everything Happens For A Reason", as part of our "Is That Really In There?" Series. Message from January 8, 2023. Centralia Community Church, Centralia, WA. The word of God is living and active, but what if things we think are scripture aren't actually in the Bible? And what if some of these phrases are actually contrary to the teachings of Jesus? Knowing God's word is vital to living life the way that HE intended! We need to know….Is that really in there?

WXVU's Nick Langan talked with Andrew about his internationally renown recording career, which includes time touring with Bobby Caldwell, Diane Schuur, Norman Brown and Smokey Robinson, the Philly Pops, and as an arranger with the Brian Pastor Big Band and the Dave Stahl Band. Andrew was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and still resides here today. He has released four Smooth Jazz CDs, and in 2018, released the album "Catwalk", a big-band jazz CD recorded at the famed Eastwest Studios in Los Angeles. Andrew began conducting the jazz ensemble at Swarthmore College in 2014, and he's conducted the jazz program at Lower Merion High School since 1999. His brother, Peter, conducts the jazz ensemble right here at Villanova! We had a blast discussing how he got into jazz, Andrew's instance on using live instruments in his recordings, to his latest single, produced by keyboardist Greg Manning, "Take It Home", which we are proud to be featuring prominently in our Smooth Jazz mix on WXVU. We hope to have Andrew back for another conversation very soon! Enjoy this WXV&U interview. For more information on Andrew, visit: https://www.andrewneu.com The intro song for the interview is "Night of the Mojito", off of Andrew's 2013 album, "Everything Happens For A Reason". The closing song is "Take It Home", Andrew's latest single.
In this high vibrant conversation, we talk about how important it is to expect life to happen in the midst of making progress. Things don't stop happening because we decide to start something new or because we got excited about something. There will always be a time for adversity to present itself.. and when it does, we have to remember that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.. We have to hold on to our VISION and GOALS while understanding that things take TIME. Nobody reaps a harvest overnight. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/weinvestdifferent/support

I FELT I WANTED TO WRITE SOMETHING BETTER, A BIT KINDER TO REFLECT OUR FRIENDSHIP. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. WE MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND, NOT LIKE IT, BUT IT'S TRUE. WHILE IT HURT THINKING I LOST A LIFELONG FRIEND, IT NEEDED TO HAPPEN. IT FORCED ME TO LEVEL UP AND BE THERE FOR MYSELF. MICHELLE SHARED WITH ME TODAY THAT SHE HAS ALSO LEARNED AND GROWN ALOT IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. LITERALLY EVERY EXPERIENCE WE HAVE IN LIFE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN. FRIENDS FIGHT. IT SUCKS. I HATE TO FORGIVE BUT I HAVE GOTTEN SOOO MUCH BETTER AT IT. I WOULD PUT THAT IN CAPS BUT THIS WHOLE THING IS IN CAPS. IT'S NOT THAT I HATE TO FORGIVE, ITS WHEN SOMEONE HURTS ME I DONT WANT TO GIVE THEM THE CHANCE TO DO IT AGAIN. BUT IF IM BEING HONEST, I HAVE ANOTHER FRIENDSHIP THAT WE HAVE FOUGHT AND FORGIVEN EACHOTHER, AND WE ARE SO MUCH CLOSER BECAUSE OF IT. IM A SCORPIO SO IT PAINS ME TO ADMIT IT, BUT TIME DOES HEAL WOUNDS. ALSO, A RATIONAL MATURE ADULT UNDERSTANDS ITS BETTER FOR OUR OWN MIND, CLARITY, HEALTH, ENERGY, FOR US TO LET GO AND NOT HOLD ANGER OR RESENTMENT IN OUR HEARTS. THROUGHOUT THIS WHOLE "INCIDENT" WITH MICHELLE, I KEPT TELLING MYSELF, EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND I NEEDED TO LEARN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE TO BE BETTER AND DO BETTER. IT HELPED ME SO MUCH, SO HOPEFULLY ONE DAY WHEN YOU NEED TO BE REMINDED, THAT HELPS YOU. ALL THE BEST

"Everything Happens For A Reason"
Everything happens for a reason right? Certainly does!! Look at truly successful people. Most of them have overcome some sort of hardship, the kind of hardship that would make most people give up. Why is that? The responsibility to succeed rests solely on you. You can either rise and shine or fall. You and only you are responsible for creating the outcome from life's disappointments. You write the words to your story. Does your life happen to you or because of you? It's because of you and your prior actions We don't own events or their reasons. We own what we do with them and how we respond to them Most of you are so afraid of failure that you spend most of your lives avoiding or running from it. We should be welcoming and embracing it! You will never learn from success. You will never improve when handed everything We grow in times of hardship and in learning from failure and turning it into growth. Where on the path are you? Where did your journey begin? What decisions were made to land you where you are now? What shortcuts did you take? Did you miss something perhaps? Overlook a crucial part of the process? Have you looked back and studied your past decisions and how you reacted during tough times and growth or good times? If you are on top, how did you pave the road to success? What obstacles did you have to overcome? What did it look like during that long journey? Ultimately, you need to understand that not everything is in your control, nor should it be. You simply can’t control everything that happens to you in life. But you can control how you respond. There’s an old quote that says life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. The definition of Luck is where preparation and opportunity meet. You create your own luck. Don't forget to look for the opportunities. It’s all about progress and not perfection. Imagine being able to improve any area of your life by just one percent every day. That one percent compounds on itself over time. This is where you start to take action on writing a new chapter of your own book. Lots of successful people have big goals. These goals can seem overwhelming and you can take small actionable steps each day to reach that goal. I have a few quotes for you I pulled from online: "Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON." -- Albert Schweitzer Miracles happen every day, change your perception of what a miracle is and you'll see them all around you. -Jon Bon Jovi Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. -Michael Jordan Famous philosopher Aristotle explains it perfectly. In his lifelong journey to know the true meaning of life, he has managed to impart one of the most valuable pieces of wisdom. For him, there are two constants in life. One, that the universe is constantly changing. It is always evolving. What it is today is never the same tomorrow. And second, a thing he calls “entelechy.” (ənˈteləkē) It means, “that which turns potential into reality.” Aristotle believed that things happen today because they have a purpose later on. Every choice we make, every outcome that happens from these choices, every person who comes into our lives, and every person who leaves — all of these elements have a reason. They make us who we are today. Moving forward, take a step back and think about the message of the situation at hand. Good things may lay ahead for you. It all depends on your outlook, perception and in the end your reaction to what is happening in the moment. Carpe Diem - Seize the day

"Everything happens for a reason." #ThingsJesusNeverSaid 1. When you have challenges, misfortunes, or are simply a victim of mean things, how hard is it for you to see it as a teaching opportunity? Read this: Cultivate a life-posture of learning and trusting God by deciding whom or what you will learn from or are taught by. So is everything that happens a potential life-lesson? 2. What have been some of the best and deepest lessons you have learned from adversity? From blessing? Which has been the best teacher? 3. Things happen for three reasons: God did it, you did it, or other people did it. Which is the easiest for you to trust? What has been something that happened when your first response was to blame God, or at least get mad at him, until you realized it really was the work of someone else? 4. Verse 3 of John 9 says that God is up to work (toil/effort). This is more than a magic wand - it is strategy and logistics. From what you know of strategy and logistics in a plan, how long do some plans take? Can this help in trusting what God may be up to with the events of your life? 5. Verse 3 also says that God’s work can be “displayed” This means "to be seen in a new way"? Is there something going on in your life right now that you can try to see with fresh eyes that trust God a little more and wait a little longer for His work to be revealed in your life?
This was originally recorded on June 30,2019. In this lost episode, Pastor Brad takes on the Myth that Everything Happens For A Reason. Pastor's notes: Romans 8:26-28 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. INTRODUCTION Good morning, everybody! I’m so that glad each and every one of you are here today. Today, I’m happy to be bringing the Word to you. I’ve been so excited about this series. Today, I want to teach you a lesson I have learned from the Scripture. I want to address the Myth: “Everything Happens For A Reason”. ILLUSTRATIONIn this life things happen that can boggle our minds: I heard the story a few years back about a young couple who were on fire Christians. Both had kept themselves sexually pure for marriage, and were anticipating spending their life together. They got married, got in the car headed to their honeymoon, and the husband was killed instantly in a car wreck. They were godly kids. I can’t wrap my head around that! But in those moments and situations, it helps us cope with the unanswerable by saying “You know, everything happens for a reason.” or, “You know, God’s ways are much higher than our ways.” TRANSITION In these moments, sometimes the things that we say can cause others to get angry and blame God for the misfortune that has come their way. I believe some of answers come from an often misunderstood topic called suffering. That is exactly what our text is about today. BACKGROUND In our text this morning, Paul is writing to the believers at Rome. Paul, being the perfect spokesperson for suffering, tells them that the things we are going through now are nothing compared to the greatness of eternity that we will experience on that great day when we are in glory. Paul then tells the believers several great things about suffering: a. b. c. All things are working together for our good Nothing can separate us from God’s love If God be for us, then who can be against us? This morning, I want to look at some areas of suffering, and to see that it isn't always God or the devil trying to cause havoc. We are going to learn that yes, everything does happen for a reason, but sometimes that reason is not some big spiritual reason. APPLICATION 1. SUFFERING CAUSED BY SELF Several years ago, there was a tragedy in my family where a young teenager was killed by fireworks. Rather than follow the instructions that came with the items, they forgot that and ended up making an explosive device that exploded and took his life. At my grandmother’s funeral, I overheard a a family member talking to sthe pastor saying “I can understand why God took my mother, but I can’t understand why God took my grandson.” The pastor replied, “Well, everything happens for a reason.” My family member had some bitterness and resentment toward God for something He didn’t do! God didn't take their family member. A consequence of choice caused a life to be cut short. Ecclesiastes 7:17 says Do not be overly wicked, Nor be foolish: Why should you die before your time? In other words, we can leave prematurely. Did he go to heaven? He was a believer, so yes. Was that God’s perfect will for his life? no. Did God get glory out of it? OF COURSE! An auditorium was with precious young people, and many accepted Christ as savior due to the message. If we are God’s people, He always causes the glory to come out of our sufferings and trials. We just don't understand why stuff like that has to happen. We just have to make sure like Job, we don't curse God or charge Him wrongly. God is good. 2. SUFFERING CAUSED BY THE DEVIL In this also, we can't always blame the devil either. I heard of a true story once of an evangelist who had a flat tire on the way to preach for one of his friends. This experience led to him being over an hour late for the meeting. Upon arrival, the guest minister began to tell his friend how “the devil” was responsible for flattening his tires, etc. The pastor, being a good friend, told him. “You can blame the devil all you want, but it’s YOUR fault. You buy those cheap two ply tires and you drive them until they are bald!” This man didn't have a devil problem. He had a common sense problem. There is however a demonic suffering. This kind we can rebuke and handle. We this with people who are afflicted with demon spirits.3. SUFFERING CAUSED BY OTHERS How many people innocent people are killed each year by the misdoings of others? Murders, accidents, drunk driving, and all the like? My mind reverts to September 11, 2001. During the great tragedy of the world trade center, many innocent lives we lost at no fault of their own. It was caused by the decisions of others. 4. SUFFERING CAUSED BY THE FALL The truth is, we live in a fallen world. A lot of suffering we go through in the natural realm is simply because of the fallen world. When sin entered, it messed everything up. Storms, catastrophes, etc are all caused by the fact that we do live in this sinful world. The atmosphere and things of the like are also affected by the fall. 5. SUFFERING BECAUSE OF CHRIST Christians are persecuted all over the world by people who hate God. Churches are burnt. Children are murdered. The Foxes Book of Martyrs is filled with these stories. Jesus told us in John 15:18 that the world would hate us. CLOSING We must realize that God is good all the time, no matter what. He never ever promised that we would not suffer. He did however tell us that He would work it all out to our benefit. It can be easy to ask the question “Where is God in the middle of all this?” He is there in the storm. He is there in our crazy decisions. He is there in the middle of demonic attack. As a matter of fact, Jesus was the picture of suffering. Where was God when Jesus died on the cross, He was right there. God used the suffering of Jesus to work together OUR GOOD!!!! God doesn't cause all the bad in the world, but He also doesn't allow it to be wasted. CONCLUSION

If you have ever done a “trust fall” exercise, you know that it requires you to surrender on many levels. As you prepare to fall back into the arms of the person or people who have agreed to catch you, your mind wonders, “Are they strong enough to catch me? What if I fall on the ground? What if I can't let go because I'm too scared?” We are in an epic trust fall right now on the planet! Many have foreseen the chaos that is stirring up around us and warned that we would have some tough times as we release all that is no longer serving humanity. We are being called to trust like never before. Trust in the unseen forces and trust ourselves. Trust that this is all happening for a reason and unfolding perfectly, even when it doesn't appear that way on the surface. Today we'll talk about how to build our trust and learn how to surrender with Sherryl Lin.

"Mythbusters", Part 1 of 5 - "Everything Happens For A Reason" “EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.” It’s a phrase I’m sure all of us have heard or said at some point in our life. Usually it’s said in a time of crisis, whether personal or in a community. The idea is that no matter how bad the situation, no matter what kind of pain or loss someone is going through, there’s a reason for it. But why? Why do some things happen? What's the reason? Even if we can understand the things WE had a part in, what about children dying? What about disease and natural disasters? What's the reason then? Join us as we unpack this and more in our latest series, “Mythbusters”.
