In times of profound crisis, where do we turn? How do spiritual practices and Christian wisdom help us navigate life's most challenging seasons? In this episode, Russell Moore sits down with Westmont College president Gayle Beebe to explore themes from his book The Crucibles That Shape Us. Together, they unpack how moments of intense pressure and uncertainty—whether personal, professional, or spiritual—can become transformative experiences that deepen our faith and character. Drawing from decades of pastoral and educational leadership, Beebe shares insights about facing crossroads with wisdom, courage, and resilience. Moore and Beebe discuss practical ways to maintain spiritual equilibrium during upheaval, the role of community in crisis, and ways to discern God's presence in our darkest hours. This conversation offers hope and guidance for listeners wrestling with their own crucible moments, and it also explores how Christian formation happens not despite our trials but often through them. Tanner shares his journey into the world of duck hunting, detailing his experiences growing up in the duck capital of the world, his typical Arkansas hunting season and the strategies he employs in both timber and field settings. He also discusses his Instagram account, Southern Addicts, and the importance of capturing hunting moments through photography. They talk about the challenges of migration trends and hunting pressure in Arkansas, highlighting the need for sustainable practices to preserve the duck population for future generations. Tanner discusses the evolving challenges of duck hunting, particularly in Arkansas, where increased pressure from hunters and changing water management practices have significantly impacted the hunting experience. He shares his personal experiences, memorable hunts, and aspirations for the future, emphasizing the need for better management and conservation efforts to ensure the sustainability of waterfowl hunting for future generations. Takeaways: Tanner McCartney grew up in Beebe. Arkansas, the home of Echo Calls. He started duck hunting at 14 with friends and developed a passion for photography. Most of Tanner's hunting takes place on public land, with a focus on greenheads and bonus ducks. Hunting strategies vary based on weather conditions, with different approaches for timber and field hunting. Tanner's Instagram account, Southern Addicts, showcases his love for all types of hunting and fishing. Migration patterns have changed, with fewer new birds arriving until late in the season. What 2025 will bring for climate tech is pretty hard to predict. We've seen a slowdown in investments at the same time as we see a continued flood of talent into the space, maturing technologies, and a boom in AI that could be transformative for climate solutions. The new administration? Nobody really knows how they'll orient around climate tech, or how private investors will respond. There's a lot of uncertainty, but of course, pros who have been in this game for decades and who study early-stage climate technology closely have some ideas of where we're headed. So I was thrilled to get to catch up with Andrew Beebe, Managing Director of Obvious Ventures. We spoke about Andrew's background as an entrepreneur and the parallels he sees between the Internet's and climate tech's early days. We talked about where climate tech is today, 5 predictions he has for 2025, generative science, technologies he's most excited about, what needs to change to address the climate crisis, and more. Andrew brings the nuance and clarity of someone who's been working closely with energy and climate entrepreneurs every day for a long time. We didn't solve all the mysteries of what this year will bring, but I think Andrew shared some great food for thought and real opportunities. We begin the episode discussing Corey's dog, duck numbers, and local weather conditions. We briefly talk about "flushability" of diving ducks, before moving onto an accounting of the way the season has gone for each of his birds, starting with his tiercel "Sky Daddy" - yes, that's his name. We then turn our attention to "Beebe" (or maybe it's "Bee Bee", or even just "BB"), Corey's wild-caught, intermewed female peregrine, now in her 10th season, and causing a bit of grief for Corey. We then talk about "Veenar" or is it "Weiner", or maybe "Weener", Corey's 2024 passage female peregrine trapped in Arkansas. We refer briefly to the danger associated with golden eagles, which turns to discussion of Bubo, red tailed hawks, and cotton rats.  We conclude the episode talking about the NAFA meet and next steps for Corey's season.  Thanks for tuning into Game Hawker Edition, I hope you enjoy Corey's update.

Don Beebe was the first player to be a part of 6 Super Bowl teams and is famous for chasing down Leon Lett. Deion Sanders and Don Beebe both had the combine record of 4.25 in the 40. Don shares the behind the scene story when he was at the combine. Insane! So many miracle stories in Don's story. Out of football for 3 years, one of the colleges that had recruited him out of high school called and asked if he'd come back and play. His grandfather was not a good man, but Don's dad succeeded as a dad even though he had an awful father. He changed the Legacy of the Beebe name. After he retired from football, he created The House of Speed and has trained over 200,000 athletes. He coached high school and won state championships and he is now the head coach at Aurora University. He was able to sign a 10 year contract and demanded some specific things to be included in his contract.   -Why do bad things happen to good people? Romans 8:28 -Why did Don run down Leon Lett in the SuperBowl? -What is the #1 attribute we need to be a great leader? -How do we know if we are actually a Man of God? -What's something you learned from legendary coach Marv Levy? -How does revenge affect you and what are the ripple effects? Some of my takeaways: "If it's about playing time, then we don't have a relationship." "What you are at home IS what you really are." "Discipline out of love"  "Character will be revealed in every game you play." "Things are Caught not Taught." "Sin will keep you from this book." "It's important that you know the playbook. Hi friends, Today we have Therapist Jim Beebe with us and we're talking about his perspective and what healing ACTUALLY looks like at times for most of us. Not the Instagram highlight reel. Not the "I've got it all figured out now" testimonies. The real, messy, one-day-at-a-time journey that most of us are living. I hope today blesses you so much! HERE'S THE HOLY TRUTH BOMB: You're not doing recovery wrong because you're still struggling. You're not doing Christianity wrong because anxiety still visits at 3am. You're not doing life wrong because you haven't "fixed" yourself yet. IN THIS EPISODE WE'RE DIVING INTO: - Why "solving yourself" isn't the goal (and was never meant to be) - The beautiful paradox of being okay with not being okay - What happens when we stop shaming ourselves for being human - Why Paul admitted "I do that which I should not do" (spoiler: because he was human too) - How to embrace your journey without expecting perfection - What it means to love yourself back to life TRUTH MOMENTS THAT MIGHT MAKE YOU CRY (IN A GOOD WAY): - "If things outside of us could fix us – enough money, the right relationship, the perfect church – it would have happened by now" - "Even if you never change, you're still insurmountably loved by God" - "I'm not a puzzle to be solved, but an experience to be lived" - "The journey itself is the destination" FOR ANYONE WHO: - Wakes up some days feeling like they're back at square one - Measures themselves against the fruit of the Spirit and comes up feeling short - Is tired of trying to fix themselves into worthiness - Needs permission to be human while also being Christian THIS IS YOUR INVITATION: To step into a grace that's big enough for your humanity. To find community in the journey. To know that your struggles don't disqualify you from God's love – they qualify you for His grace. Remember, even Paul had a thorn in his side. Even Jesus was a man of sorrows. Your humanity isn't a hindrance to your holiness – it's the very place where grace meets you. Love you, Dani

In this episode, hosts Lindsay Pereira and Ella Jando-Saul explore the concept of virtual pilgrimage through conversations with two guests: Michael Van Dussen, a professor in the Department of English at McGill University in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, teaches us about the medieval experience of pilgrimage in the British Isles while Simon Coleman, a professor in the Department for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto teaches us about the modern reconstruction of pilgrimage to Walsingham in Norfolk, England.Simon Coleman's latest book, Powers of Pilgrimage: Religion in a World of Movement, can be found here.*VOICE AND SOUND CREDITSInterviewees:Dr. Michael Van Dussen, Professor of English Literature, McGill University.Dr. Simon Coleman, Professor of Anthropology and Religion, University of Toronto.Theme music:“Ai Tal Domna”: composed by Berenguier de Palou, recorded by Zep Hurme ©2014.
