In this episode of Crime Time, Inc., we delve into one of the most pivotal moments in American history: the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, by examining the controversial murder of his accused assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, by Jack Ruby. Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner with a complex personality marked by both generosity and violence, shot Oswald in front of live television cameras on November 24, 1963. Despite millions witnessing the act, Ruby's motives remain deeply shrouded in mystery. We explore Ruby's tumultuous life, his erratic behavior in the days leading up to the shooting, and the significant legal battles that ensued. His trial, marked by intense public scrutiny, saw his defense argue insanity due to psychomotor epilepsy.

Astrology influencer, Lori Lothian of Lunatic Astrology, joins the podcast to talk 2024 Astrology! Lori dispels all astrology misinformation. Lori clarifies the importance of your Sun Sign, Rising Sign, and Moon Sign before breaking down what is and is not a stellium (0:00 - 21:42). On May 25th Jupiter entered Gemini where it will stay for over a year until June 9th 2025. Since each sign will be affected in a different way, Lori gives a detailed forecast for each zodiac to help everyone successfully plan for the year ahead (21:43 - 01:26:52). The Midheaven (MC) is one of the most important placements in our charts because it dictates our purpose, our career, and ultimately our life plot. Think of the MC as the script of our lives, the vault of heaven, and our lifeline to God... but did you know most birth times are wrong and off by a few minutes!? Using me as an example Lori breaks down why your birth time may be wrong, how to configure the accurate time, and why a few minutes makes ALL the difference (01:26:53 - 01:33:48). Lori explains why it is important to have surgery (if possible) when Mars is compatible to you (01:33:49 - 01:36:12). We close out discussing how you can book a reading with Lori and why getting engaged and/or married when Venus is retrograde (or worse - when Venus is invisible) is baking in a future breakup into your relationship (01:36:13 - 01:41:57). Andy Lothian is a beacon for entrepreneurs and leaders seeking depth and purpose in their work. In our conversation, Andy shares his insights into the entrepreneurial journey, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness, purpose, and creating value in the world. His perspective challenges the conventional portrayal of entrepreneurship, arguing that the essence lies far beyond the glamorized images of quick success and competition seen in shows like "Shark Tank" and "Dragon's Den." Instead, he posits, "Entrepreneurship is creating value in the world in a place that you think is important."Andy's journey from aspiring investment banker to leading Insights, a global organization focused on personal and leadership development, underscores the transformative power of listening to one's inner signals and aligning with one's true purpose. He reflects on this transition, saying, "It was like cotton candy, like candy floss. It was very tasty, but no nourishment." This metaphor vividly captures the emptiness of work devoid of personal meaning and the nourishment that comes from purpose-driven endeavors.A central theme of our discussion is the critical role of understanding oneself and one's motivations. Andy argues that successful entrepreneurship and leadership begin with the foundational question of "Who am I?" This introspection is the first step in creating a business that not only achieves financial success but also contributes positively to the world. He eloquently states, "You do it for the value you feel you can create in the world," highlighting the intrinsic motivation behind impactful entrepreneurship. The conversation also explores the concept of "BHAGs" (Big Hairy Audacious Goals) and the importance of setting visionary goals that stretch the imagination and drive innovation. Andy shares an anecdote from Insights' own journey, where a seemingly unattainable revenue goal sparked new thinking and accelerated growth. This story illustrates the power of ambitious goals to catalyze change and foster a culture of creativity and resilience.Andy's insights extend to the strategic dimensions of business, emphasizing the necessity of clear vision, purpose-driven goals, and adaptable planning in the face of unforeseen challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. He remarks, "The goals are important, the critical success factors are important," underscoring the importance of flexibility and resilience in achieving long-term success.Beyond business strategy, Andy delves into the importance of human skills and connections in an increasingly technology-driven world. He advocates for a balance between leveraging technological advancements and preserving the human element in interactions and decision-making. In his view, "Rediscovering human" is paramount to navigating the complexities of the modern world and ensuring the enduring relevance of businesses and individuals alike. In conclusion, our conversation with Andy Lothian offers a profound exploration of the essence of entrepreneurship and leadership. It underscores the significance of self-awareness, purpose, and human connection in creating lasting value. For anyone looking to deepen their understanding of what it truly means to be an entrepreneur or leader in today's world, this episode is a treasure trove of wisdom and inspiration.
fWotD Episode 2470: Second War of Scottish Independence Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Thursday, 8 February 2024 is Second War of Scottish Independence. The Second War of Scottish Independence broke out in 1332 when Edward Balliol led an English-backed invasion of Scotland. Balliol, the son of former Scottish king John Balliol, was attempting to make good his claim to the Scottish throne. He was opposed by Scots loyal to the occupant of the throne, eight-year-old David II. At the Battle of Dupplin Moor Balliol's force defeated a Scottish army ten times their size and Balliol was crowned king. Within three months David's partisans had regrouped and forced Balliol out of Scotland. He appealed to the English king, Edward III, who invaded Scotland in 1333 and besieged the important trading town of Berwick. A large Scottish army attempted to relieve it but was heavily defeated at the Battle of Halidon Hill. Balliol established his authority over most of Scotland, ceded to England the eight counties of south-east Scotland and did homage to Edward for the rest of the country as a fief.As allies of Scotland via the Auld Alliance, the French were unhappy about an English expansion into Scotland and so covertly supported and financed David's loyalists. Balliol's allies fell out among themselves and he lost control of most of Scotland again by late 1334. In early 1335 the French attempted to broker a peace. However, the Scots were unable to agree a position and Edward prevaricated while building a large army. He invaded in July and again overran most of Scotland. Tensions with France increased. Further French-sponsored peace talks failed in 1336 and in May 1337 the French king, Philip VI, engineered a clear break between France and England, starting the Hundred Years' War. The Anglo-Scottish war became a subsidiary theatre of this larger Anglo-French war. Edward sent what troops he could spare to Scotland, in spite of which the English slowly lost ground in Scotland as they were forced to focus on the French theatre. Achieving his majority David returned to Scotland from France in 1341 and by 1342 the English had been cleared from north of the border. In 1346 Edward led a large English army through northern France, sacking Caen, heavily defeating the French at Crécy and besieging Calais. In response to Philip's urgent requests, David invaded England believing most of its previous defenders were in France. He was surprised by a smaller but nonetheless sizable English force, which crushed the Scots at the Battle of Neville's Cross and captured David. This, and the resulting factional politics in Scotland, prevented further large-scale Scottish attacks. A concentration on France similarly kept the English quiescent, while possible terms for David's release were discussed at length. In late 1355 a large Scottish raid into England, in breach of truce, provoked another invasion from Edward in early 1356. The English devastated Lothian but winter storms scattered their supply ships and they retreated. The following year the Treaty of Berwick was signed, which ended the war; the English dropped their claim of suzerainty, while the Scots acknowledged a vague English overlordship. A cash ransom was negotiated for David's release: 100,000 marks, to be paid over ten years. The treaty prohibited any Scottish citizen from bearing arms against Edward III or any of his men until the sum was paid in full and the English were supposed to stop attacking Scotland. This effectively ended the war, and while intermittent fighting continued, the truce was broadly observed for forty years. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:02 UTC on Thursday, 8 February 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Second War of Scottish Independence on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Kendra Standard.

In this episode, we are sharing highlights from our webinar, ‘Movement and Breathing Better whilst Living Well with Overcoming MS' with Gillian Robinson. Gillian is a physiotherapist at the MS Therapy Centre in Lothian, Scotland. She discusses how MS affects breathing, how to breathe better and the importance of physical activity for people with MS. This webinar was recorded as part of our Finding Hope with Overcoming MS webinar series. Watch the original webinar here. Keep reading for the key episode takeaways and Gillian's bio. Topics and Timestamps 00:57 Why and how we should breathe. 04:22 How MS can affect respiration. 09:13 Consequences of ineffective breathing. 11:00 Monitoring and slowing your breathing helps with fatigue and stress management. 14:05 Posture and nasal breathing are important. 20:19 Deep breathing exercises can be part of your meditation practice to strengthen respiratory muscles. 27:23 Benefits of exercise for people with MS. 33:00 Include both aerobic and anaerobic activities in your routine. 36:38 Vestibular retraining, physiotherapy, Tai Chi and Thera Bands can be helpful for people with MS. 38:16 Breathing exercises can strengthen your pelvic floor and abdominals. 40:06 Virtual reality and visualisation can both be used to improve wellbeing. 41:53 Noticing your breathing is the first step to improving it. Selected Key Takeaways Breathing can be affected by MS, so it's important to keep active to strengthen muscles in the respiratory system. 04:24 “It's only in recent years that it's been demonstrated that the respiratory system can be affected quite early on in MS. I think most of us are aware that it can be affected in the more advanced stages of MS. [These early effects are] logical really, as we know that muscle strength can be affected by MS in the disease process itself, as wherever your lesions are, they can cause muscle weakness in the rest of our body. So, it makes sense that it will cause muscle weakness in our respiratory system. Not only is this primary weakness a result of the MS itself, but if you're not using [your] muscles and reducing levels of activity, you can develop secondary weakness or deconditioning.” Nasal breathing is really important for optimal health.17:17 “Nasal Breathing is really important. We know that chronic mouth breathing can cause problems with your respiratory system and your lung function and certainly impair the effectiveness of your breathing. You can get dental problems by breathing through your mouth, and you're losing 40% more moisture than you do by breathing through your nose.” Visualisation whilst breathing can help strengthen muscles. 41:00 “An interesting bit of research out there shows that through visualisation activities alone, you can improve muscle strength. So, if you struggle with activity and getting your body moving, visualise activities that you might enjoy. The more detail that you can add to your mental imagery, the better and the more likelihood of success. Just try to bring your awareness of your breath. We've talked about how important breathing technique and exercising your respiratory muscles is.If your breathing is optimised, it most definitely has a knock-on effect on your wider wellbeing.” Noticing your breathing is the first step to improving it.42:39 "Notice your breathing responses during activity, so notice what your breathing patterns do. Do you start to get more shallow as you get more effortful? Do you start to breathe through your mouth? Be more mindful of how your breathing responds to activity." "A part of fate is the freedom of man. Forever wells up the impulse of choosing and acting in his soul."- Ralph Waldo EmersonLori Lothian of Lunatic Astrology is my favorite Youtube astrologer! Her voice is a flourishing expression of the natural syncretism of the Information Age.Rising above the deluge of witless love horoscopes, prophecies of doom and tedious scene politics, Lori brings a refreshing style of densely researched but accessible forecasts. Her mind oscillates at a rapid frequency: intertwining the frayed edges of esoteric astrology, like the outer asteroids, with classical traditions. And she makes it all seem so easy breezy, fluttering from far out ideas into arcane techniques with effortless effort. She works tirelessly creating videos. But she's motivated to share her knowledge because she believes:“Astrology can be very useful for preparing the way for difficult circumstances as well as anticipating and leaning into hope for positive circumstances.”Lori's a very predictive astrologer, finely tuned and confident in her ability to help clients prepare and anticipate. Over the years, she's realized that fate does seem to play a significant factor in human life. The age-old question of fate versus freewill brings up so many questions. And this is exactly what Lori and I decided to tackle in this interview. As our conversation unfolds, we discuss:How the freewill taught in the Law of Attraction is solipsisticHow pure fatalism erodes agency and choiceWhy so many astrologers wrongly predicted the 2016 electionHow the 24,000+ asteroids have become a part of Lori's practiceHow personal will relates to Divine WillHow awakened imagination is connected to Divine WillLori's fascinating history as a psychicAnd her training as a high level remote viewer in Project StargateHow to Follow Lunatic Astrology!Subscribe to Lunatic Astrology where you'll find all of Lori's deep dive astrological forecasts.Follow Lunatic Astrology on Facebook and Instagram.Find out more about Lori's work at www.lunaticastrology.comSupport her work on Patreon to get early access to her forecasts + exclusive discounts on classes.Want to learn astrology from Lori Lothian?Fall registration for her 6-week astrology course, Sky Reader is now open!Support the showSupport the show at https://www.patreon.com/aeolianheart
On October 15, 1977, seventeen-year-olds Christine Eadie and Helen Scott met some friends at the World's End Pub in Edinburgh's Old Town neighborhood to celebrate their new jobs and what they assumed would be the start of their adult lives. The next day, Christine's body was discovered by hikers near Gosford Bay, while Helen's body was discovered in a cornfield several miles away. The Lothian and Borders Police mounted a massive investigation to identify and apprehend the killer but, despite their best efforts, evidence was sparse and by the following year the case had gone cold. The World's End Murders, as they'd come to be known, became one of Scotland's most notorious cold cases, until it was reactivated in 1997 in hopes that scientific and technological advances of the previous two decades could lead them to the girls' killer.Thank you To the Fabulous Dave White for Research Assistance References:Amos, Ilona. 2019.
