Ohio State's men's basketball season came to an end last week, but not before the Buckeyes offered some hope for the future.Ohio State's run to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals couldn't save the Buckeyes from missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in six years and finishing with a losing record for the first time in 19 years, but it did give Ohio State some much-needed positive energy entering the offseason and gave Buckeye fans reason to be excited about Bruce Thornton, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Felix Okpara going into their sophomore seasons. As such, we spend a little bit of time talking about the season that just ended but most of our time looking ahead to next season as we focus primarily on Ohio State men's basketball on this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays. With the NCAA Tournament set to begin without Ohio State on Thursday, we also make our predictions for who will make this year's Final Four and the biggest upsets we expect to see in the first weekend of March Madness. We also preview the first weekend of NCAA Tournament action for Ohio State women's basketball and Ohio State women's hockey's trip to the Frozen Four. Finally, we discuss what we heard from Ohio State's wide receivers and linebackers during the most recent spring football interviews. The full rundown for this week's show: 0:34: Ohio State had a bad year, but Big Ten Tournament run gives them something to feel good about 3:32: Freshman class growth is the biggest reason why Chris Holtmann will be back for another year 5:37: Bruce Thornton will be Ohio State's most important player entering next season 7:46: Roddy Gayle Jr. and Felix Okpara needed time to grow, but their talent is clear to see now 13:00: Justice Sueing and Sean McNeil stepped up their game to finish their collegiate careers strong 15:30: Ohio State must bottle up what it did the last few weeks and play like that all season next year 19:50: Is just making the NCAA Tournament next season enough for Chris Holtmann to keep his job? 24:25: Making the Sweet 16 and contending for a Big Ten title should still be expectations 25:45: Sueing, McNeil and Isaac Likekele weren't superstars, but they're still notable departures 26:36: It doesn't seem likely Brice Sensabaugh will be back for another year 29:28: Assuming Sensabaugh leaves, Ohio State will need new scorers to emerge outside the sophomores 31:30: Will a lineup with both Felix Okpara and Zed Key work? We're skeptical 34:47: Who can replace Sensabaugh and Sueing: Tanner Holden? Eugene Brown? Freshmen? Transfers? 36:59: Devin Royal's physicality as a scorer should enable him to make an impact quickly 37:49: Taison Chatman is the top incoming freshman offensively, but will need to get physically stronger 38:39: Scotty Middleton should make an immediate impact defensively, but has to develop offensively 40:06: Louisville's Kamari Lands, Towson's Nick Timberlake among early transfer targets 43:50: Much like this season, Ohio State will need its freshmen to make an immediate impact next year 45:49: Our Final Four predictions 47:41: Our upset picks for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament 51:04: A look at Ohio State women's basketball's NCAA Tournament draw 54:39: Women's hockey can defend its national title this weekend, but challenging matchups await 58:26: You can breathe a sigh of relief if you were worried about Marvin Harrison Jr. returning punts 59:00: Xavier Johnson is already showing why he could be one of Ohio State's top leaders this year 1:00:48: Ryan Day is still spending most of his time with the offense 1:02:45: James Laurinaitis is already making a big impression on Ohio State's linebackers 1:03:40: Reid Carrico, C.J. Hicks and Gabe Powers are committed to Ohio State despite unclear roles
Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State's 73-62 win over No. 21 Maryland Wednesday night, we spoke with Justice Sueing, Isaac Likekele, Sean McNeil, Chris Holtmann, and Maryland coach Kevin Willard (kind of) about the game. Willard walked into the press conference, realized only one Maryland reporter traveled to Columbus for the game, and promptly walked out. He blew off the first question, half answered two more questions over the next 90 seconds, and then got up and left. We then spoke to the seniors — Sueing, McNeil, and Likekele. All three players talked about their families and being grateful their families were able to make it to Wednesday night's game — Likekele's family traveled from Texas and Sueing's from Hawaii. They also talked about the growth of Ohio State's freshmen but did not want to talk about the Big Ten Tournament with another game coming up at Michigan State. Holtmann closed the conference and said the team really wanted to send Sueing off with a win in his final time in front of Ohio State fans. He also talked about Likekele's ability to post up being a game-changer against the Terrapins. Sean McNeil was perfect from the field, but OSU didn't seem to make an effort to get him more touches. A short recap of Ohio State's latest loss, six key takeaways, and answering some fan questions.

NASCAR knew it was going to be difficult to duplicate the success of last year’s race in its return to the Coliseum and Sunday night’s racing wasn’t great: there were 25 cautions and laps under yellow didn't count. The team has struck a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. That’s according to a person with knowledge of the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither team had announced the move. The Mavericks will trade Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and a package of draft picks to the Nets. The blockbuster trade ends Irving’s pairing with Kevin Durant before it ever had much of a chance to click. Dallas also gets Markieff Morris in the deal. Truex took the lead with 25 laps to go in the Busch Light Clash, a 150-lap race that was moved last year to the Coliseum as NASCAR built a temporary quarter-mile track in a bold attempt to try something new. NASCAR knew it was going to be difficult to duplicate the success of last year’s race in its return to the Coliseum and Sunday night’s racing wasn’t great: there were 25 cautions and laps under yellow didn't count. There were only five cautions in last year's race. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State's worst regular-season loss in over six years, we spoke to Minnesota head coach Ben Johnson, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, plus Buckeyes Isaac Likekele and Sean McNeil in the post-game press conference. Johnson gave Ohio State credit for being a “tough, gritty team” that knows how to make tough shots. He praised his team's play lately, and told them that if they continued to play the way they have been, the wins and losses will work themselves out. Neither Likekele or McNeil had much to say, repeatedly describing Ohio State's mistakes as “fixable” and saying they need to get back to work on Friday to fix them. McNeil mentioned that he felt the Buckeyes didn't play with nearly enough energy, “Like we didn't want to be out there.” Holtmann had his shortest post-game interview of the season, by far. He said that aside from the fight his team showed in the final minute, there were no positives to take from this game. He also said that if guys didn't show up with energy or weren't ready to play, that was something he would need to address. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. The now-ranked No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes are flying to Durham on Wednesday to face the No. 17 Duke Blue Devils in a rematch of last season's Big Ten-ACC Challenge that was played in Columbus. Exactly one year ago to the day, the top-ranked Blue Devils held a 13-point lead at halftime but faltered in the second half, losing to E.J. Liddell, Zed Key, and the gang, 71-66. The students rushed the court in a frenzy as Coach K went out a loser in his final B1G-ACC challenge game. The rosters are drastically different and Duke has a new coach in Jon Scheyer, but the two teams are facing off again tomorrow night, except this time the showdown is in Durham. On Tuesday afternoon, freshman guard Bruce Thornton, senior guard Sean McNeil, and head coach Chris Holtmann met with the media to preview the matchup. Thornton and McNeil spent a considerable amount of time discussing Duke's size and elite rebounding, but both players expressed confidence in their chances of winning this tough road game. Holtmann also gave Scheyer and the Blue Devils copious amounts of credit for their performance to this point, and said that Duke's rebounding is a huge concern for his team. Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. In this episode, you will hear uncut audio from Ohio State men's basketball coach Chris Holtmann during the program's annual media day, held inside the practice gym at the Schottenstein Center. Holtmann spoke for about 30 minutes and touched on a bit of everything, starting with the health of Justice Sueing and ending with Tanner Holden's gradual improvement and progression. In between, Holtmann was also asked questions about LeBron James, NIL, Sean McNeil not being just another Justin Ahrens, and his team's porous defense the past two seasons — among other topics. He also thanked the roughly 60 media members for joining this season to, “tell the stories of these young men.” Holtmann ensured that Team 124 is a fun group that fans will enjoy following and getting to know as the season progresses. It's time to make our predictions for where each Buckeye will land in the 2022 NFL draft. On this week's episode of Real Pod Wednesdays, we preview the NFL draft by making predictions for which teams we think Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson will land with on Thursday night, what rounds we think Nicholas Petit-Frere, Jeremy Ruckert, Thayer Munford, Haskell Garrett and Tyreke Smith will be selected in and whether Master Teague, Antwuan Jackson, Demario McCall or Chris Booker could sneak into the draft. We also make our personal picks (starting at 27:45) for which Buckeyes we'd be most confident drafting if we were NFL general managers and share some overall thoughts on this year's Ohio State draft class, including what it says about the talent that will be returning to the Buckeyes in 2022.As for the 2022 Buckeyes, we also learned this week about some players who won't be returning to Ohio State this fall – namely Noah Potter, Andre Turrentine and Marcus Hooker – and we discuss (beginning at 34:25) what to make of the latest wave of transfer portal entries as Ohio State sits below the 85-scholarship limit for the first time this year.It was also another busy week for Ohio State men's basketball, as Sean McNeil committed to the Buckeyes and Seth Towns announced his return for a seventh year, and we discuss (starting at 49:05) what the Buckeyes will need from both of them during the 2022-23 season as well as what they will do with the one roster spot they're expected to have left.

Columbus Dispatch Ohio State men's basketball beat reporter Adam Jardy discusses how the roster for the upcoming season is becoming more solidified on the latest episode of the BuckeyeXtra Basketball podcast. During this episode we talk about how Seth Towns will return to Ohio State for one more season, how the Buckeyes have landed a commitment from West Virginia transfer guard Sean McNeil and explain the NIL deal that player Nijel Pack acquired as he transfers to Miami.
Chris Ballard will talk to the media today, but I tell you exactly what he's going to say. And if he says "I love T.Y. Hilton!" T.Y. is truly a ghost for the Colts. Indiana Basketball being visited by West Virginia transfer Sean McNeil. Little 500 Weekend visit? McNeil may never leave. Eric Hunter Jr. has entered the transfer portal, and I will suspend my loathing of the Portal if Hunter comes to IU. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
While it has been a very exciting week for the Indiana Hoosiers basketball program with the return of Race Thompson and the commitment of Malik Reneau, it has IU up against the limit in terms of scholarships this upcoming season. As Mike Woodson continues recruiting transfer targets, it could create an interesting situation for the Hoosiers in the near future. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) breaks down where IU stands with its scholarships this upcoming season. If Trayce Jackson-Davis returns after declaring for the 2022 NBA draft, the Hoosiers will be at the limit with 13 players on scholarship. Despite the minimal wiggle room, IU is still recruiting a number of transfer targets in Dexter Dennis and Sean McNeil. The individual season recaps continue as we look back at Miller Kopp's frustrating and disappointing season with the Hoosiers. Coming in with the expectation of being a floor-spacer, Kopp struggled to knock down 3-pointers consistently throughout the season. The show wraps by looking forward and previewing what a successful 2022-23 season looks like for Kopp. Much of that centers around his ability to knock down shots consistently from outside, something he could not do much of this past season. The difference will be that if he can't this upcoming season, he'll likely have a much shorter leash than he did this year.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Louisville - Daily Podcast On Louisville Cardinals Football & Basketball
Louisville wide receiver Tyler Harrell entered the transfer portal earlier this week; the sophomore recorded 18 catches for 523 yards and six touchdowns last season for the Cardinals. Harrell currently has a visit scheduled to Alabama in the near future. Dalton explains that while his departure is a big loss, the Louisville offense has receivers that can fill the void. Four-star small forward commit Kamari Lands confirmed to cardinal Authority's Jody Demling that he would be signing with Louisville; Lands' advanced scoring repertoire and defense will see him getting rotational minutes next season for Kenny Payne's squad. Morehead State transfer Johni Broome and West Virginia transfer Sean McNeil both included Louisville in their list cuts. Broome's fit next to Sydney Curry is questionable, but he is one of the best transfers available. McNeil's perimeter shooting abilities would be just what the doctor ordered for the Cardinals.
