In this conversation we welcome home Safear Ness. Safear is a formerly incarcerated organizer, a founder of In The Mix Prisoner Podcast, a writer, and a Revolutionary Abolitionist. In this conversation we discuss Safear's recent piece “Phone Resistance” from the Study & Struggle blog. We also talk about a zine he adapted from Dan Berger and Toussaint Losier's book Rethinking the American Prison Movement entitled Revolution: The Prison Rebellion Years, 1968-1972 (artwork by Paul Lacombe). We also get his reflections on organizing, social media, and the abolition movement as someone who became a prison abolitionist inside Pennsylvania prisons. Safear also reflects on organizing inside, on Russell “Maroon” Shoatz concept of The Hydra, and other aspects of prison life including censorship There is a discussion of phone zaps as well and we get into Stevie Wilson's current situation facing repression in PADOC. The phone campaign for that is currently taking a break, but may start-up again soon. Stay in touch by following Stevie's twitter account operated by comrades outside the walls, and by following Dreaming Freedom, Practicing Abolition. For this month we will be sending copies of Mohawk Warrior Society: A Handbook for Sovereignty and Survival into our incarcerated readers. Thanks to PM Press for donating those copies and to Massive Bookshop and Prisons Kill for facilitating that project as always. You can support that project here. We won't be plugging our patreon this week. But definitely would encourage folks to support projects like In The Mix and In The Belly where incarcerated people are developing their own podcast and journal projects. A conversation about centering anti-capitalism in the fight for abolition with Stevie Wilson and Ruth Wilson Gilmore. Study and Struggle organizes against criminalization and incarceration in Mississippi through mutual aid, political education, and community building. We provide a bilingual Spanish and English curriculum with discussion questions and reading materials, as well as financial support, to over 100 participants in radical study groups inside and outside prisons in Mississippi. These groups correspond with groups from across the country through our pen pal program. We regularly come together for online conversations hosted by Haymarket Books. The curriculum, built by a combination of currently- and formerly-incarcerated people, scholars, and community organizers, centers around the interrelationship between prison abolition and immigrant justice, with a particular attention to freedom struggles in Mississippi and the U.S. South. For our Fall 2021 four month curriculum, we have borrowed and augmented Ruth Wilson Gilmore's argument that “abolition is about presence, not absence. It has to be green, and in order to be green, it has to be red (anti-capitalist), and in order to be red, it has to be international," having added “intersectional” as a fourth analytical category that we hope moves us beyond “single-issue” organizing. Study and Struggle provides a bilingual curriculum to all our imprisoned comrades in Mississippi with the support of our friends at 1977 Books and makes it fully available online for other study groups to use as they see fit. Our Critical Conversations webinar series, hosted by Haymarket Books, will cover the themes for the upcoming month. Haymarket Books is an independent, radical, non-profit publisher. For more on Study and Struggle: https://www.studyandstruggle.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our third webinar theme is "Red" and will be a conversation about what it means for abolition to be anti-capitalist, centering questions of labor, time, and unfreedom. While all of our events are freely available, we ask that those who are able make a solidarity donation in support of commissary and mutual aid for our incarcerated participants. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Speakers: Ruth Wilson Gilmore is Professor of Earth & Environmental Sciences and Director of the Center for Place, Culture, and Politics at the City University of New York Graduate Center. FORGET the European Super League. Right now all the chat is about what happens next in the West of Scotland Football League. Last week Ardrossan Winton Rovers put forward a proposal which has sparked a huge debate. In a covid world they reckon conferences based on geography will give the coming campaign a better chance of being completed. On last week's show fixture secretary Kennie Young told us he's against the plans – and insisted he'd been misquoted too. Rovers boss Stevie Wilson helped draw up the detailed argument for change – which even takes into account how many miles it would save teams travelling. The proposals can be seen in full at https://www.wintonroversfc.org.uk/downloads/1124 There are still some questions though – and we're delighted to say Stevie is with us this week to answer them. That's not all though. In-demand striker Callum Graham left Ashfield for Pollok last week. He tells us just why he decided to head to Newlandsfield ahead of other options. Plus in an action-packed show Matt Maley also joins us to explain why he's quit Annbank. We'd like to give a quick mention to our sponsors FortyFour Creative. Black and queer abolitionist writer Stevie Wilson, held captive by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, was recently released from solitary confinement. He speaks about the importance of abolitionist study as a space of common encounter that undermines the hold that the carceral state has on our lives, both inside and outside prison walls.
Stevie Wilson of LA-story.com explains to us the effect of social media on the fashion and beauty industries, and what other small businesses can learn from this history.

Welcome back to the ...rude not too Podcast. For Episode 24, we have a special extended, (almost) 3 hour mix! Recorded exclusivly for the show, Scottish Techno maestro Stevie Wilson gives us his interpritation on that dark, underground club sound. The continued rise of Scottish award winning techno Dj/Producer Stevie Wilson is growing in epic proportion. Since he started producing techno music only in May 2011 his tracks have been well received in the techno community and gaining massive support from Dj’s all over the world. In this short space of time he also won the award for best Scottish Techno producer 2012 at the E.M.M.A.S & this has now made his name stand out among the rest and show everybody that he means business. Stevie’s passion for music started at a very early age. From the days of school buying and swapping music with friends it was clear to him then that he had to take the next step and get his first set of decks. Since then stevie has never looked back and is always pushing the boundaries with his musical and technical abilities from when he is performing in clubs rocking the dancefloors with his high energy pounding beats to the music he produces in which he blends all sorts of different sounds from deep & dark to twisted industrial sounds to full on banging grooves that is guaranteed to get any crowd moving on the dancefloor. His main influences from the early days were people like Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Bass Generator, Mikey B, Easygroove, Technotrance and basically the whole early hardcore techno / breakbeat era. Nowadays his influences are people like Len Faki, A.Paul, The Advent & Industrialyzer, Dave Clarke, Chris Liebing, Monoloc, Pfirter, Alan Fitzpatrick, Ricardo Garduno, Gary Beck, and loads more. The amazing thing is he has got to play alongside some of these guys who inspire him so much such as A.Paul, Dandi & Ugo, Vegim, Eddie Halliwell, Alan Fitzpatrick, Valentino Kanzyani, Judge Jules, Hernan Cattaneo, Hans Bouffmyhre, Randy Katana, Funk’Void, Dj Misjah and many more. Stevie has played at all the best venues in Scotland such as The Arches, Room At The Top, The Soundhaus, Ivory Blacks, The Metro, Club 69, Liquid Rooms and that’s just to name a few which has spread over various club nights. So you can tell techno is his passion, his life and an art form he clearly loves. Welcome to the rude not too podcast. This month we have a very special guest mix from Dj, producer and Label owner Danny Smith. Following his first gig in April 2005 at a one off night in Glasgow, Danny quickly secured a number of gigs as well as a featured mix in IDJ magazine. A residency in world renowned The Arches in Glasgow soon followed and in 2010 Danny decided to get into the studio with Leon Watson. Together they produced a number of tracks quickly signed up by labels such as Sebian, WR Germany & Cutoff Recordings. Danny has since produced a number of solo productions and had a number of tracks and remixes signed and released on various labels including Eklero, Limbo, Clubstream, WR Germany, Control Room and Traxacid. Recently, Danny teamed up with Clutch Slip (Gobsmacked, Neurotraxx, UnterNull, Section 15, Midimal) - aka Leon Watson & Twandy - to create Clutch Trax. This new & exciting label will take you up and down the gears of electronic music with a techno inspired drive.
