Brazil's controversial conversion therapies: Rising concerns for transgender people

Brazil is home to over 4 million trans and non-binary people, the largest transgender population recorded anywhere. As the first country on the continent to legalise gay marriage, Brazil is seen as one of the most advanced in terms of LGBT rights. Yet it is also the country where the most trans people in the world are killed and raped. Fuelled by far-right discourse, evangelical fundamentalism is gaining ground. A number of churches, such as Libertos por Deus (Liberated by God) and its pastor Flavio Amaral, are setting up highly controversial conversion therapies. Our correspondent reports.

The Unprofessionals

This week, the boys dive deep into the chaotic, drug-fuelled world of Ozzy bloody Osbourne — from snorting ants to chewing bat heads and mumbling like your drunk uncle at Christmas. It's all things rock, ridiculous, and slightly concerning.Fuelled by the filthy legends at 8 Napkins Burgers, we test out a range of cokes — and no, not the nose-candy kind (sadly). We're talking Grass Jelly in a can. That shit tastes like regret and freshly mowed lawn. Honestly, it's so bad it makes staring at Lorde's rude head for 50 minutes seem like a spa day.And it wouldn't be a proper sesh without some dangerously delicious beverages from the naughty crew at Hotel 190 — Whisky Lemonades flowing like tears at a Nickelback concert, and Pirate Life Crisp Lagers keeping the vibes dangerously high.In the sport questions , things go feral as Whittling Fever returns and nearly causes a punch-on mid-recording. Someone loses the plot, someone loses a bet, and someone definitely loses brain cells. So crack a tin, block your nose, and prepare for another episode of unfiltered chaos. It's rock, it's rude, and it's barely legal in three states.Legends, welcome to The Unprofessionals Podcast — where absolutely nothing is off limits! The people are real, the laughs are loud, and the stories? Well, they're better than your nan's gossip at a family BBQ. Join E-Dawg, Evo, and The Lord as they crack a cold one and spin their weekly yarns, tackling everything from the ridiculous to the downright absurd. So, grab a beer, kick back, and let these three best mates take you on a ride where no topic is too weird, too wild, or too out-of-bounds. It's just a dead set good time... and maybe a little bit of chaos too. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

HEAVY Music Interviews
Carnage Fuelled By Passion With LEO LUTHER From LUTHER

HEAVY Music Interviews

Interview by Kris PetersNot often a band's music comes across our desk here at HEAVY that literally makes us sit up and take absolute notice, but when it does, and you then find out it is the first ever single release from the band…Such was the case when we heard Next Time Send A Killer, the debut track from Berlin-based heavy outfit Luther. A crushing cesspool of malevolence, Next Time Send A Killer also contains a plethora of styles and influences that many a more seasoned band have tried without half the impact achieved by Luther in their sonic introduction to the world.A sentence in the band's press release says, "through music Luther communicates emotions of isolation, betrayal, rage and escapism", and for once that was no exaggeration. At times angry, at others beautiful and others again a slit to the throat, Next Time Send A Killer is an amalgamation of everything you thought scared you as a child then dialled up a double notch. Thinking (but hoping we were wrong) this might just be a case of one great song followed by a dose of mediocrity, HEAVY reached out to the band, who sent us two unreleased songs and their music videos, and they were just as good, if not better.Of course, we had to chat with Luther in order to introduce them to our friends, with vocalist Leo Luther kindly offering up some of her time."We formed in 2024," she began when asked to introduce Luther, "and we are somewhat of a… I wouldn't say supergroup, but that's the kind of concept. We are all people who were in different bands but in the same scene, and we met each other, liked each other, so we started this project."We ask Leo to run us through Next Time Send A Killer in greater detail."This comes from me wishing to experiment with some very… angry music," she measured. "And I think that angry music is also like trap metal. I know it's not the most common sub-genre of metal, but there's also some metalcore and a little bit of djent in there, and that's how it was born."We ask why Luther chose that particular song to introduce them and their music to the world."You're not gonna like this answer," she laughed. "Basically, in a band where you want to be successful, you need to have some sort of strategy. I was like, fuck the strategy, we're just gonna do what we want (laughs). So there are two songs that have this type of sound identity for us, and those are the songs we released with Next Time Send A Killer and Oyster, which were released together. Now we are working on a debut album that literally has nothing to do with metalcore. That was not the wisest choice, but I thought fuck it. We liked that song, now we like another one, so we're gonna do it that way."In the full interview, Leo talked more about their debut single and the reaction to it. We discussed the next two songs to be released, Give The People What They Want and The Most Famous Rat In The Sewer, going into detail about the imaginative song titles for their music.Leo mentioned the debut album and what we can expect, took us deeper through their musical styles and influences and ran us through the balancing act of getting things right in the creative process and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

ADRIANNA has firmly established herself as a force in the techno scene, pushing her sound into darker, more hypnotic territory while maintaining the high-energy presence that made her a festival favourite. With a string of hard-hitting releases and an increasingly stacked tour schedule, 2025 sees her refining her vision and stepping into a new phase of her career. Her latest singles, Hallucinations and Never Never Land, mark a shift towards stripped-back, club-focused aesthetics, blending precision and raw intensity. In Episode 67 of The Steak Lad Experience, I sat down with Melbourne real estate agent, Zed Nasheet. Given my background in Real Estate and a previous connection in my formative years as an agent, this was a conversation I had been eyeing off for a long time, so to finally get it done was a real privilege. During the podcast we touched on what his family went through prior to coming into Australia, learning's from his career in real estate to date, the power of mentors (especially for people starting out), what he thought would have made him happy looking back which doesn't, the importance of failure and much more. This conversation was different for me given how rare it is interviewing someone who is not only confident but so assured of the path they are on/have taken. Having had the chance to listen back to this conversation myself, it is an interview that provides immense value, especially for anyone in the early stages of a career in business. Zed Nasheet - InstagramDarcy Tobin (The Steak Lad) - YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok & FacebookWatch This Ep on YouTube - https://youtube/NasheetEmail - darcy@thesteaklad.comWebsite - thesteaklad.comUse the discount code “PODCAST” for 10% off my Beef Tallow via thesteaklad.com

On her 16th birthday she had hopes of completing A levels and going to university however her parents had other plans. Instead they travelled abroad to Pakistan, and Nazreen was married to her mother's cousin (her uncle), someone she knew nothing about. She recalls asking her mother if she could say no and her answer was “no, your grandad gave his word” and that was that. Soon after her marriage, her mother told her that she was to do whatever her husband wanted and that if she refused s*x the devil would curse her all night. Nazreen soon became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter at age 17. The following 12 years, Nazreen spent fighting for freedom, freedom to work, freedom to have phone and freedom to wear what she wanted to wear. Fuelled with anger at the end of her twelve-year marriage, she could see how religion and culture shaped her parents' choices and world view, and how the teachings of Islam demanded the total subjugation of women. Nazreen's parents stopped talking to her after her divorce and so she rebuilt her life as a single parent. Her experience only confirmed what she had now grown to accept in that Islam was designed by men for men. Divorced women were deemed as used goods, a women's identity and personhood reduced to her reproductive parts and womb. Since her divorce she's been actively engaged in local politics, completed her degree and runs her own business. Now an exMuslim, Nazreen recently has come out as an atheist, speaking out against the generational religious ab*se .

Each year we highlight amazing teachers that help shape our children's lives every single day.  This year we welcomed back Mr. Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard! This time he is an AUTHOR! We are so happy for him as he starts out this exciting new portion of his platform!  Meet Greg Smedley-Warren, affectionately known as “Mr. Greg,” an experienced, current  kindergarten educator and the creative mind behind The Kindergarten Smorgasboard. With an impressive 19-year teaching journey, Greg's expertise spans various grade levels, including a brief stint in fifth grade and two years in second grade. However, it was a reluctant transition to kindergarten that unveiled his true passion and calling.  Never wanting  to teach kindergarteners, Greg's journey took a turn when he discovered an instant connection on the very first day of kindergarten.   From that moment on, he knew kindergarten was his calling.   Fuelled by his dedication to his students, Greg has proudly remained in the kindergarten classroom for 16 years, continually inspired by the boundless energy and curiosity of his students. Mr. Greg posted something that went absolutely VIRAL and he and his husband have not looked back since! To learn more about Mr. Greg go to thekindergartensmorgasboard.com.__________________________________________________________________________________________________Then later we celebrate the mamas out there. The panel will also spotlight leading voices in Ireland's startup ecosystem including Mary Rodgers (PorterShed), Suzanne Mills and Eshna Gogia (Republic of Work). A Film That's Fuelled a Global Movement Catherine Gray is the producer and driving force behind Show Her the Money, a film that addresses how women are getting less than 2% of venture capital funding and demystifies what venture capital is. Directed by Ky Dickens, Show Her The Money follows four dynamic female founders battling systemic barriers to secure venture capital - and the game-changing women investors who back them. From inclusive fashion to beauty rooted in Ayurveda, the featured businesses challenge norms and stereotypes, and their journey highlights a core reality: women receive less than 2% of venture capital funding globally. This documentary is a rallying cry to change that. The movie also features rock-star female investors who invest in diverse women entrepreneurs with innovations that will change the world including - Wendy Ryan, a powerhouse investor using her generational wealth to empower women and BIPOC entrepreneurs. "Show Her The Money" reminds us that money is power, and women need it to achieve true equality. Wendy advises and invests in early-stage companies. Her impact facilitating access to capital for historically excluded entrepreneurs is featured in the movie. She explains the rationale for investing in women, "If I write a woman a $10,000 cheque she is going to go much further with it than a similarly situated male would - returns are actually better when you invest in women." She is an executive producer in Show Her The Money along with Sharon Gless from Cagney and Lacey fame. Joining her in Dublin is VC and Angel investor Lata Setty who has a diverse background in patent litigation and tech entrepreneurship. Setty is the inaugural Investor and on Advisory Board of Silicon Valley Women's Founder Fund. Sinead shares how she came up with an approach to haircare that nobody else has thought of and how she did something similar with her previous businesses. This inspiring episode is full of information for entrepreneurs and professionals, especially mums who are struggling to balance their lives. If you want your own business, just do it. Start small if you need to and apply for any grants that are available. To run your own company, you really do have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. When you run your own company it becomes easier to be there for your family, but it takes time to reach that stage. You can´t be reticent. When an opportunity presents itself, you´ve got to go for it, even if you are not 100% ready. Visualisation works, Yvonne and Sinead share an unusual yet incredibly powerful way of doing it. Standing out on social media is becoming more difficult. Be persistent and test different approaches. People comment less these days, but if you share tips they will save and share your posts. Solo founders need the support of other entrepreneurs. Network and find your tribe. You cannot do everything, start building your team as soon as you can. To stay consistent everything needs to be built into your lifestyle. DTFF: The Volunteer Firefighter Podcast - Down To Fight Fire

WERE BACK BABY. After a lengthy hiatus the boys are back in the studio and happy to pick up where we left off. Join the crew as they bring you up to speed on what's been keeping them busy. With life settling in, DTFF is excited to begin Season 2 of the Volunteer Firefighter Podcast. WHO WE AREAs a group of Rural Volunteer Firefighters, our Fire Department has built our firefighter training from both old and new tactics in the fire service and adapted them to fit the realities of equipment, manpower, and costs around what our community requires. WHAT WE DOWe create video, audio and written word content to share these training and tactics methods with our Brothers and Sisters in our extended fire families, and to showcase to those that may be interested in becoming firefighters the fun you can have and the amazing skills and abilities you get to learn, whilst keeping the lives of the people around you safe! WHY WE SHAREFirefighters are problem solvers whose role requires them to be on their best day whilst others are having their worst day, and while we do not claim to be perfect we are willing to put our lives on the line to try. It's during the trying that we continue to develop the mindset, tactics, and training that allow us to be effective, safe and successful where it's needed the most, and by sharing our experiences we hope that it may help other Fire Departments in creating what works for them to help bring everyone home safe.THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORTIf you would like to help support us then you can visit us by clicking the link to your favorite social media platform below to Subscribe and be the first to see more of our content! For centuries, ayahuasca has been a sacred plant for the Shipibo-Konibo peoples of the Peruvian Amazon. Part medicine, part spiritual ceremony, ayahuasca and other plant medicines are revered practices. But in recent years, a boom in Western interest in psychedelics has started to reshape ayahuasca ceremonies and practise. Fuelled by celebrity endorsements, a new wave of tourists are heading to purpose-built resorts in the Peruvian jungle to take ayahuasca, guided by shamans from the Shipibo-Konibo tribes. In this episode of Heart and Soul, reporter Janak Rogers travels to the Peruvian Amazon to explore this so-called ‘psychedelic renaissance'. From candlelit jungle ceremonies to bustling tourist strips, Rogers uncovers the allure of ayahuasca for Westerners seeking help and healing. But as the ayahuasca boom transforms local communities, challenges arise: the rise of unscrupulous shamans, the commercialisation of Indigenous knowledge, and risks faced by vulnerable travellers.

Video Edition.Welcome back and coming up on this edition of the show we welcome back "Canada's Rock'n'Roll Band" The Damn Truth" who release a brand new self titled albun this wek produced by grammy award winning producer Bob Rock. Joining us today to talk about the new album the band and all the stories behind the making of what will be one of the year's best albums are Lee-la Baum, PY Letellier and Dave Traina . Accept no substitute, The Damn Truth are probably the finest rock ‘n' roll band on the planet right now.” – Metal Planet“An incendiary kaboom of commotion, with blazing vocals, powder-keg rhythms, and flaming guitars. This is immense. It's a nitro-glycerine love-bomb!” – Raw RampThe forthcoming album features the singles “Love Outta Luck,” “I Just Gotta Let You Know,” “The Willow,” and their latest single “Better This Way.” Stream all the singles on Spotify. It's no secret that one of the most exciting new bands making noise in the UK and Europe these days is Canadian. It's true, and it's The Damn Truth, a Montreal rock foursome serving up a gutsy, revved up modern reimagining of classic rock ideals. And now, after touring the UK and Europe for the last four years, The Damn Truth return with their self-titled fourth album, The Damn Truth, and, once again, produced by the legendary Bob Rock (Motley Crue, The Offspring, Bon Jovi, etc). This new album is the culmination of 12 years of hard work and constant touring; The Damn Truth are a perpetual and virtually unstoppable rock and roll machine.Fuelled by two Top 40 singles on the Canadian Active Rock Charts (“Love Outta Luck,” “I Just Gotta Let You Know”), this new album marks the next level in their relationship with Bob Rock. He has pushed the band in all areas of playing, writing, and refining the Damn Truth signature sound, most evident in the revelatory power of Lee-la Baum's vocals as evidenced on the mystic, almost Zeppelin-vibed “The Willow;” the full on bittersweet romance of “Better This Way;” the social conscience of “The Dying Dove;” the cautionary “If Don't Make It Home;” and the hell yeah rabble rousing “All Night Long.” The Damn Truth have added some extra lanes on their rock'n'roll highway as they explore new musical scenery, but the destination remains the same: organic loud rock experienced best in a crowded concert hall dripping in sweat. The album was recorded over a period of two months at Bryan Adams' Warehouse Studios in Vancouver. This is Bob Rock's favourite studio; it's a classic and gigantic old school recording haven (AC/DC had just wrapped up prior to The Damn Truth's arrival), perfect for the massive drum sound that Bob loves. Unlike their previous LP, Now or Nowhere (2021), which was hampered by Covid restrictions; this one is 100% produced and mixed by Bob Rock, who also gave the band access to his incredible collection of rare and vintage guitars for the sessions.

Drew Balch - Money matters! We wrongly fool ourselves when we think that our wallets have little or nothing to do with our Christian walk. That is a huge lie that we tend to believe and that the devil uses to limit our own blessings, to limit our praise of God, to limit others being blessed and to limit churches from partnering together.
