Do you know how sometimes life gives you lemons? They say to take those lemons and make lemonade with them, but have you ever made lemonade? Squeezing those lemons takes time! Plus, you have to add so much sugar that stirring it until it dissolves takes forever! My point is that making lemonade takes a lot of time and effort. (I am also now craving a glass of lemonade. What have I done?) Anyway, life has gotten a bit too real for us here at Stolendroids Podcast, so we need to take a minute to catch our breath. But don't worry because we're not going anywhere! We're currently preparing for Salt Lake FanX on September 16th through the 18th at the Salt Palace Convention Center. We will be back in October doing what we love to do. In the meantime, if you have suggestions for topics we should discuss upon our triumphant return, hit us up on Twitter or Facebook and let us know. Conventions appear to be happening again, which means people will be spending lots of money. And if you have ever been to a fan convention, you know that a good portion of that money will be spent by those who want to meet their favorite celebrities. But if you have ever paid for a photo op or an autograph, you know that the time you get to spend with the person you're paying to meet is fleeting. Sometimes, you may only get a few seconds with them! But what if you had more time? What if you could talk with them about anything that you wanted? If given the opportunity, what celebrities would you choose to hang out with for a few hours? What would you do with them? What questions would you ask? Listen as our panelists discuss these very questions as they run through a list of celebrities with whom they would like to spend time. How many hobbits and dwarves are on their lists? And what about Norse gods? Check out the latest episode of Stolendroids Podcast, and then let us know who makes your list! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Another Marvel television show has come and gone, but this time things are different. Unlike WandaVision or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki feels like an extremely important part of the MCU as we enter a new phase of storytelling. Why would we say that? Listen to week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast to find out. But Loki isn't the only thing going on in the Stolendroids Universe. Black Widow is suing the Mouse, Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe: Revelation is predictably angering fanboys everywhere, and LeBron James continues to show why he will never be better than Michael Jordan. And not just on the basketball court either. Yep! We're talking Space Jam! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
After numerous delays, Marvel's Black Widow finally arrived in theaters. And Disney+. Yep. In addition to a theatrical release where the latest chapter in the MCU scored $158 million in its first three days at the global box office, Disney also released the anticipated film through Disney+ Premier Access. But the move appears to have been a wise one since it earned more than $60 million through the popular streaming service during its opening weekend.Based on its earnings, it looks like Black Widow is a hit, but is it any good? We break it down on this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast. Listen as we discuss what we like (and what we don't) about the movie, then let us know your thoughts. And do you think that this is a movie best watched in a theater, or is it okay to watch at home? Let us know! It's Wednesday morning. You're at work sitting in another unnecessary Zoom meeting that really should have been an email. Hoping to make the next hour of your life more tolerable, you visit your favorite social media sites and begin scrolling. Within seconds you are bombarded with spoilers from the newest episode of Loki. Seriously? It has only been out for like six hours! How is the Internet already full of spoilers?Does this sound familiar? Maybe it wasn't Loki that was spoiled. Perhaps it was a different movie or TV show. But you know the feeling. That feeling of anger and rage and disappointment in your fellow man. How could they do this to you? Shouldn't there be some sort of etiquette when it comes to this sort of thing? We're right there with you, which is why that's the topic of conversation on this week's Stolendroids Podcast. What bothers you most about when people share spoilers? What rules do you think there should be about sharing spoilers? Hit us up on social media and let us know. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Who watches the watchmen? This is a popular translation of "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" from the writings of Juvenal and can be literally translated as "Who will guard the guards themselves?" It's a theme that has become a popular trope throughout pop culture, including movies, television, and comic books. It also happens to permeate our review of Pixar's Luca. While we do manage to talk about Luca, there is just so much more to talk about than just one movie. Seriously, we had the new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings drop right before we recorded, so you know we had to discuss that. We also had follow-up news from a previous episode that we felt should be talked about. Throw in some Disney+ and Netflix chatter, and where to get a cold drink on a hot day, and you've got this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast. Disney has been making classic animated films for decades. You could even say that it's what they're known for. I mean, they did make Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated feature film, way back in 1937, and they've been cranking out the classics ever since. Sure, they've stumbled along the way, but they always seem to recover. With that in mind, why would you think that a global pandemic would prevent Disney from releasing another animated classic? No, it's not a classic yet, but Raya and the Last Dragon is good enough to be one. From the story to the animation, it is a classic in the making. Unfortunately, it may be one that many people sleep on. DON'T SLEEP ON IT!On this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast, we share our thoughts on what could be one of Disney's best films in years. Have you seen Raya and the Last Dragon? What are your thoughts? Send us a message through social media! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Remember the days when you would wake up at 6:00 on a Saturday morning, grab a giant bowl of cereal, and plop onto the couch where you would watch cartoons for the next four hours? As a kid, those were the best days. Saturday mornings were yours, and nobody was going to take them away from you. Until they did…On this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast, we reminisce about the days when it was okay for a kid to watch hours and hours of television. We remember the memory and mourn the loss of the Saturday morning cartoon and all that went with it. The sugar cereal. The amazing commercials. The freedom from having to worry about doing your chores for just a few hours. Saturday mornings were the best! What were some of your favorite Saturday morning cartoons? Did you have any that you just had to watch? And did you have any Saturday morning cartoon rituals? Let us know in the comments or through social media! With an original release date of May 1, 2020, Black Widow became one of the first summer blockbusters to change its release schedule due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. With the closure of movie theaters worldwide, the highly anticipated film was moved to a November release date, pushing back Marvel's Eternals until 2021. But with the world still in an upheaval that September, there were rumors that Disney was considering rescheduling Black Widow again. These rumors proved true when Disney announced that the film's new release date would be May 7, 2021. Unfortunately, this new relate date not only delayed Marvel's Eternals again, but it also pushed back the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Despite its previous delays, Disney said that Black Widow would still debut in theaters. However, at the time, there were reports that the film would instead be released on Disney+. Ultimately, both were proven true in late March when Disney announced that the film would be released in theaters and on Disney+ (with Premiere Access) on July 9, 2021. So now the question is: will Black Widow actually be shown in theaters? The odds are looking better than they did last year, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. But if it only premieres on Disney+, will you still be excited to see it? Come to think of it, are you even as interested in watching it after more than a year of delays? And are you still as excited about the MCU's future as you were pre-pandemic? How do you think that Marvel and Disney should continue to develop the MCU? Listen as we discuss these things and more on this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast, and then let us know what you think! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Someone once said that WandaVision is one of those shows where you either love it, you hate it, or you fall someplace in between. So it's like most television shows. But the difference with WandaVision is that most people seem to be on either end of the spectrum, with not a lot going on in the middle. It's a show that doesn't generate much apathy from viewers. While it succeeds in invoking viewers' emotions weekly, fans remain on the edge of their seats waiting to see what will happen next, while haters take to the Internet to rage about what they just witnessed. So now that the final episode has aired, what does the Stolendroids crew think about the show? Which fan theories did they want to see turn out to be true, and which plot twists left them feeling as dead inside as Tommy and Billy's dog, Sparky? The gang is all here for this special live edition of Stolendroids Podcast. If you missed our live stream, here is your chance to catch up on all of the chaotic magic. Spoilers abound, but so does the fun! Sit back and enjoy the show, then be sure to let us know what you thought of WandaVision! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Of everything that has been discussed on Stolendroids Podcast over the years, I never would have thought that we would do an entire show on Britney Spears. Yes, you read that right, and no, this isn't April Fool's Day.With the New York Times Presents episode "Framing Britney Spears" captivating viewers everywhere, it was decided that it was something that our panelists needed to discuss. While it's surprising that we are talking about Britney Spears, the show prompts some serious discussion that is always applicable. For those unfamiliar with it, "Framing Britney Spears" discusses the pop star's rise to fame. But what goes up must come down, and the show goes into great detail surrounding her mental health issues, run-ins with the paparazzi, and ultimate downfall. We also learn what prompted the conservatorship that she has been living under since 2008. And if you haven't heard about it yet, it is the conservatorship that has sparked the fan-driven #FreeBritney movement.Have you had a chance to watch "Framing Britney Spears" yet? When Dungeons & Dragons was first published in 1974, the 1,000-print run sold out in the first year. The adventure game continued to gain popularity throughout the 1980s until it came under an extraordinary assault from groups who feared that it promoted devil worship and witchcraft. Like so many other pop-culture controversies of the past, these claims were found mostly to be without merit. But enough parents had heard the news reports, and the damage was done. Those who played D&D and other tabletop role-playing games were ostracized. Doomed to spend Friday nights in their parents' basement battling orcs and trolls. Over time, the moral panic over Dungeons & Dragons shifted to other things, including movies and especially video games and RPGs began to enjoy a resurgence. Fast forward to today, and people from all walks of life can be found playing tabletop role-playing games to escape the high-stress world in which we live. Add a global pandemic and the ability to play these games remotely into the mix, and you have a recipe for an RPG renaissance, which is what's happening. And that brings us to our first Stolendroids Podcast episode of 2021. Listen as we discuss our experiences with tabletop role-playing games. We also get into what some of the different game systems are and why we believe TTRPGs are seeing such a surge in popularity. And you know that we're going to talk about the newest addition to the Stolendroids family, The Lettuce Inn, as new Game Master Erika joins the conversation. So give the episode a listen, and then let us know what you think. We also want to know what your experiences with role-playing games are. Message us with your thoughts on social media! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Remember when Yoda said, "Begun, the Console War has" at the end of Attack of the Clones? Or maybe it was something about the Clone War. I don't quite remember. Anyway, with Sony and Microsoft both recently releasing their next-gen consoles, the debate of which is better: Xbox or PlayStation has new fuel added to the fire. Of course, many gamers will say that PC is the Master Race, but I digress. In this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast, our panelists discuss their recent console purchases. Find out who bought what and why they chose what they did. They also discuss some of the pros and cons of the different consoles, what games they are looking forward to, and the hits and misses from the previous generation of gaming consoles. But that's not all! To help turn the fun up to 11, we have not one, not two, but three special guests! Listen now to find out who they are but be warned; entertainment lies ahead. Every four years, citizens in the United States go through the time-honored tradition of selecting who will be our next Overlord, I mean President. And every four years, these contests become more and more heated as the margins of victory grow tighter and tighter. In fact, as time has passed, election season has started to resemble something from a young adult dystopian novel. But we're not here to talk politics, or are we?In this week's episode of Stolendroids Podcast, our panelists take advantage of the timely presidential elections by discussing their favorite fictional presidents. Not only are those who have held the highest office in the land talked about at length, but they also talk about those whom they would like to see become President of their respective imaginary universes.Who was missed? Who would you have put on the list of best and worst fictional President? Let us know on social media! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
As children, we all had our favorite toys. Some were awesome, some weren't. And then some needed to be burned and sent back from whence they came. You know the ones: the porcelain doll with the dead eyes, the teddy bear that reads you stories with its dead eyes, Furby. The nightmares were real, but toy manufacturers didn't always instill fear in children on purpose. And that's what we're talking about on this episode of Stolendroids Podcast.Listen as our panelists run through some of their favorite unintentionally creepy toys while also asking for large corporate sponsorships and discussing the house-breaking of children. Welcome to Utah Remote-Con 2020! This was our first panel of the convention. We kick things off with a bang as we look back on the Fast and Furious franchise and look forward to the future. You still remember your first cartoon crush, right? Who doesn't? We all had at least one that stands out that we will never forget. It's not weird. In this week’s episode Tracy, Val, and Jake are visiting Lake Winnipesaukee, virtually of course, as we also welcome Collin from Stolendroids Podcast to discuss the 1991 comedy classic What About Bob?! This film stars Bill Murray as Bob Wiley and Richard Dreyfuss as Dr. Leo Marvin and is directed by Frank Oz. It was one of our favorites at the time, but after 29 years, does it still hold up?Our panel breaks down why the timing works, why the jokes land, and the chemistry between the two main stars- who apparently did not enjoy working together on set. This is a summer vacation classic, and the laughs just keep coming as Bob becomes more and more sane while Leo Marvin is losing it. The team agrees, this film not only holds up, it is still very re-watchable even today. Just as funny as it was 29 years ago. This movie was a lot of fun to record and talk about it. If you haven’t seen it in a while, Memorial Day is the perfect time to revisit it. I mean, you can’t really go out and travel as easily as you normally would, right? Might as well take a vacation. Maybe just a vacation from your problems. In any case, this is a great film to watch this weekend, or any weekend. Our team all agreed it was graded pretty high. What did you think of What about Bob? Jake has been watching Prop Culture on Disney+ recently. (For those who are unfamiliar with the show, it follows film historian and prop collector Dan Lanigan as he reunites iconic Disney movie props with the filmmakers, actors, and crew who created and used them in some of Disney’s most beloved films.)That brings us to this week's topic of discussion.Watching Prop Culture put has put Jake in the mood to discuss the things that he likes to collect with others. But it's not just about him. He also wants to know what others collect and why.We all know that person who collects stuff to the extreme. They're the ones who visibly cry when a kid a birthday party actually opens the toys that they received as gifts. Maybe it's your best friend or your significant other. Maybe that person is you. Or maybe that person is one of the Stolendroids Podcast hosts. Listen to find out.NOTE: In this episode, we show off a lot of stuff that doesn't always translate well to an audio format. Sidekicks are an important part of storytelling. Captain America has Bucky. Frodo has Samwise. Batman has Robin. Stolendroids has Collin...Sidekicks often get a bad rap. We can probably blame the 1950's and 60's for this. (Thanks 1966 Robin.) Characters that were once simply comic relief have morphed into something more. A good sidekick will help make the protagonist a better character. They will help improve the story. And they will point out "holy rusted metal." (Thanks Robin from Batman Forever.)In this episode of the Stolendroids Podcast, Collin, Marlee, Jake, and Zach discuss some of their favorite front pockets, better known as sidekicks! What makes a good sidekick? Are sidekicks more than just lovable, but incapable dorks? Who are some of the best sidekicks out there? Let us know who we missed in our discussion in the comments below! Everybody loves a good bad guy. From Darth Vader to Hannibal Lecter to the Joker, some of the most iconic characters in books, film, and television are villains. Why is that? What is it that draws us to them? Is it because we secretly want to be the villain, or is it something more?In this episode of Stolendroids Podcast, we ask what is it that makes a good villain. Is it their charm? Or maybe it's their rugged good looks? Maybe it's something else, something that can't be described other than as an "it" factor?Listen as we analyze what it is that all of the best villains share, and what makes them the characters that we love, or that we love to hate. And if there are any qualities that we left out, please be sure to let us know. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
A lot has changed since we last were able to bring you an episode of Stolendroids Podcast. For instance, it wasn't very long ago that we were able to go buy toilet paper. And remember how we could shake another person's hand without fear of dying two weeks later? Those were the days…Anyway, our panelists have managed to utilize technology and record an episode detailing exactly how they're handling being under a somewhat lax, mostly self-imposed (up to this point) quarantine. And in addition to some great advice for getting through this difficult time, we also get to hear what their plans are for Las Vegas now that the Strip has gone dark. Collin and Zach also pull back the curtain to share more than anyone else really expects, but it is definitely entertaining. We know how hard things have been lately so take a few minutes for yourself and laugh. This episode will help you do that. Now hurry up and listen before the next Horseman of the Apocalypse decides to show up! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Heraclitus, the pre-Socratic Greek philosopher said the only constant in life is change. This is true even at the Happiest Place on Earth where Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company recently announced that he will be immediately stepping down from a role he has held for 20 years. When asked about his decision, he said: "I don’t want to run the company anymore." I guess that's that.Iger will be succeeded as CEO by Bob Chapek, who was most recently chairman of Disney parks.Being the Disney nerds that pretty much everyone at Stolendroids is, you know that news like this couldn't go without discussion so that's exactly what our panel does on this, the 400th episode of Stolendroids Podcast.By the way, Jake is currently at Disneyland. We hope he's having fun while the rest of the team is buried in snow in Utah. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On this week’s episode Jake and Tracy are missing Val, but they have two special guests stepping in and trying to fill in for her. But those guests are Collin and Zach from Stolendroids Podcast, so they are poor substitutes for Val. But we’ll work with what we’ve got. The really good news is that we are discussing Jojo Rabbit, one of the best movies from 2019. And we all loved it. We discuss the amazing performances from the child actors in the film, the amazing story in the film, the writing, the dialogue, and the struggle Taika Waititi had with making this film and playing the role of Adolf Hitler, sort of.This film is more important today than ever. We talk about why it resonates with us so much, and why everyone should see it. Even if the whole premise seems strange- a young boy who’s imaginary friend is Hitler. But that’s not the message- and the message in this film is important. It will make you feel things. What did you think of Jojo Rabbit? Let us know by sending your feedback to podcast@moviesthamakeus.com. If you haven’t seen Jojo Rabbit, go see it. If you have suggestions for a future episode, let us know. During Super Bowl LIV, fans of the MCU were treated to a commercial spotlighting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, each of which will be hitting the Disney+ streaming service later this year. We were also given a brief look at the upcoming Loki which is expected to premiere in early 2021.Being the geeks that our panelists are, you know that they couldn't let actual footage of these highly anticipated shows from Marvel Studios go without being discussed, so that's exactly what they do. And even though it's just Jake and Collin this week, they power through and tackle each one of the shows and more. It's another short and sweet episode, but it's one that you don't want to miss! Remember how in the 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s every now and then your favorite television show would do "a very special episode?" They usually contained either a brief message from the cast or a title card reading either "Viewer Discretion Advised" or "Parental Discretion Advised" to let viewers know that the episode might be controversial or upsetting. Thankfully, in this "very special episode" of Stolendroids Podcast, we're no more controversial or upsetting than usual. You also don't want to pass this episode over since it's part two of "Crisis on Infinite Podcasts." (To be honest, we like how "very special episode" sounds.) And even though we don't have anyone becoming addicted to caffeine pills, getting drunk from vanilla extract, or using a fake ID to get a job serving beer brewed by warlocks, this is indeed a very special episode. In the second part of "Crisis on Infinite Podcasts," the hosts from Movies That Make Us and Stolendroids Podcast join forces in a crossover of epic proportions to welcome Cutscenes and Cupcakes! They've been around for a while, but in case you're unfamiliar with them, Cutscenes and Cupcakes is the only podcast where three ladies, each of whom have differing levels of gaming experience, discuss video games and then compare them to desserts. And even though we try to keep things on topic, you know that we're going to fail miserably. We do manage to discuss piracy, video games, and more random topics though so enjoy the chaos and be entertained. If you missed part one of "Crisis on Infinite Podcasts," listen to it on Movies That Make Us. The adventure concludes in part three on Cutscenes and Cupcakes this Wednesday!Welcome to the family, ladies! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Collin also apparently doesn't know what a dog looks like. Or maybe it's Zohner who doesn't know what one looks like since he's the only one who seems to see a problem with the "live-action" animation used in Lady and the Tramp. Toy Story 4 is the latest installment in the beloved Disney/Pixar franchise. The first three Toy Story movies are considered modern classics that revolutionized the way animation is done and the way family friendly stories are told. Can this fourth chapter live up to that kind of pressure? Tracy, Val, and Jake are together again to answer that question. In this episode, they also welcome special guest, Collin, from the Stolendroids Podcast. For Toy Story 4, all the classic characters we know and love are back, from Woody and Buzz to Jessie and Bullseye, and everyone in between. Even Bo Peep makes a heroic return. But, there are plenty of new characters to love as well, from Canada’s greatest daredevil, Duke Caboom, to the ultra-loveable duo of Ducky and Bunny, there are lots of new faces to love.Does the story hold up to the quality we have come to expect? Is there more to tell with these characters we have come to know over the last 24 years? Listen as we discuss how this story compares to the other three films. Does it have the heart? Sometimes the inmates get to run the asylum. This is one of those times. While I was traveling across the country in a giant moving truck, Jake and Collin stepped up and managed to record a pretty solid episode of Stolendroids Podcast. It's good to know that had I actually met an untimely end in one of the sketchiest motels I've ever seen that someone could fill in for me long-term until I "got better."Seriously though, who removes the deadbolt, the door chain, and the smoke detector? Probably the same person that decided it was a good idea to affix the air conditioner to the wall with duct tape. It's a miracle I'm still alive... Sometimes the show before the show is just as entertaining as the show itself. That happened to be the case this week as I stumbled across multiple articles discussing how sex robots are "indistinguishable" from their human counterparts thanks to a 5G upgrade. We decided not to include this topic in the show because some of us (all of us) have a tendency to behave like twelve-year-olds. Of course, Collin had to then mention that his car's AI seems to have "a thing" for Tom whose first appearance on Stolendroids Podcast was so amazing that we decided to invite him back for an encore performance. Things devolved from there.Thankfully, we were able to get some serious conversations in about the Pandora's Box that may have been opened by redesigning Sonic the Hedgehog before the movie is released in November. Of course, such a move comes with repercussions so if you're barely able to contain your excitement to see the character hit the silver screen, you're going to have to wait a bit longer. And speaking of video game adaptations, there are rumors that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic film is in the works. It's generally accepted that movies based on video games aren't very good, but I think it's a safe bet that this is one that Star Wars fans will see regardless. And since it's Star Wars, it probably won't be much of a disaster. Even Solo was a pleasant surprise. Enough so that some people are hoping for a sequel. In tech news, Google is both good and bad this week. So not much is different... They're making it easier for you to order food which is good since you need extra time to reset passwords that they stored in plain text. For fourteen years! Seriously. Fourteen. Years. Also, Samsung can't catch a break, but their phones can.Headlines:Geek News:Sonic’s theatrical release slowed until next yearFans take to Twitter asking for a Solo sequelKnights of the Old Republic getting a movieTech News:Google stored passwords in plain text for 14 yearsGoogle is making it easier to order foodBestBuy cancels Galaxy Fold preorders See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
We've been back for a little over a month, but Stolendroids just doesn't feel the same without trying to crank out a podcast on a weekly basis. At 2:00 AM. While trying to do a dozen other things related to the website. With no recording equipment. Yep. the more things change, the more they stay the same. Will we ever learn? Probably not.Anyway, Stolendroids Podcast is back with some familiar voices and we're going back to our roots with the show. We're still bringing you tech news, but we're also mixing in geek-culture items that have caught our eye. We hope you like the new format. If you want to share your thoughts, feel free to drop us a message at feedback@stolendroids.com. Dish yourself up some extra potatoes and try to ignore your slightly racist uncle explain everything that's wrong in the country; it's an early episode of The Stolendroids Podcast! We break our own rules and record a new show only 48 hours after the previous one is published, and OH what an eventful 48 hours it was: China has dropped all pretense and embraces their 1984 regime, Office Depot has been scamming customers (like any of us didn't already know that), and Samsung hits a new low.
